- Feeding South Florida Debuts Seventh Annual “Feed Your Creativity” Student Art Competition
Create for a cause! Feeding South Florid a – the leading hunger-relief organization in South Florida – is proud to once again host its Seventh Annual “Feed Your Creativity” Art Competition. Elementary, middle and high school students throughout Palm Beach, Broward, Miami-Dade and Monroe counties are invited to compete for the opportunity to have their artwork displayed on one of Feeding South Florida's semi-trailer truck wrap – a 36-foot moving billboard that travels throughout South Florida. Feeding South Florida will accept artwork submissions from Feb. 1 through April 30, 2026. Feeding South Florida’s mission is to end hunger in South Florida by providing immediate access to nutritious food, leading hunger and poverty advocacy efforts, and transforming lives through innovative programming and education. The 2026 Feed Your Creativity campaign focuses on “Food That Connects,” highlighting the importance of how food connects us all, while raising awareness about summer hunger. The artwork should inspire others, spark meaningful conversations, and help individuals to understand the importance of sharing meals and supporting individuals in our community. Submissions should reflect this theme, showing how food can connect communities and make a difference. Feeding South Florida strongly encourages students to incorporate its brand colors, orange, green, yellow, lime and fuchsia, in their art. Students should keep the focus on the idea of nourishment and giving; use bold colors to make their artwork stand out; think about how their art can inspire others to care about summer hunger and ensure their message is clear. Judging will take place from May 1 through May 7, 2026. Winners will be announced at a Gallery Night at Feeding South Florida’s Pembroke Park on May 14, 2026, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The truck reveal celebration will be held at the school of the first-place winner on May 29, 2026. All students’ artwork will be displayed at Feeding South Florida’s Pembroke Park and Boynton Beach warehouses. The first-place winner will be awarded: Artwork is displayed as a truck wrap on a 36-foot tractor/trailer that travels throughout Palm Beach, Broward, Miami-Dade, and Monroe Counties. Artwork prominently displayed at Feeding South Florida’s Pembroke Park warehouse. Recognition on social media platforms, including Facebook, X, and Instagram. Additional accolades include grade, county (Palm Beach, Broward, Miami-Dade, and Monroe), and the categories: Feeding South Florida team favorite and the most creative. The “Feed Your Creativity” art competition is part of Feeding South Florida’s “Summer Hunger Ends Here” initiative, designed to raise awareness and funds necessary to address summer hunger for kids in South Florida. It aims to engage students, their parents, teachers, and schools in a critical issue, while also recognizing the creative talent in the South Florida community. Summer months are some of the most difficult times for South Florida families because children don't have access to free or reduced-price school meals when school is not in session. In South Florida, more than 300,000 kids rely on free or reduced meals during the school year. Seeking to help fill the void of school meals, Feeding South Florida is a proud sponsor of the USDA Summer Food Service Program, providing meals to kids at Summer BreakSpots, pop-up pantries in low-income communities. Feeding South Florida also assists families at its Community Caring Centers, food pantries, along with other services at both of its warehouses in Pembroke Park in Broward County and Boynton Beach in Palm Beach County. “For seven years running, our 'Feed Your Creativity' Art Competition has given students across South Florida a powerful platform to shine a light on hunger,” said Paco Vélez, president and CEO of Feeding South Florida. “As we kick off our ‘Summer Hunger Ends Here’ campaign, we're reminded that when school lets out, too many children lose their lifeline to nutritious meals. This competition has grown into something special, a movement where young artists become advocates, using their talents to tell stories that matter and spark conversations that lead to real change in our community.” By ML Staff. - Carlos Alcaraz Wins Australian Open, Makes History Ahead of Miami Open 2026
Congratulations to Carlos Alcaraz on an unforgettable triumph at the Australian Open, where he defeated Novak Djokovic to capture the final missing piece of his Grand Slam collection. With the victory, Alcaraz became the youngest man in tennis history to complete a career Grand Slam at just 22 years old, further cementing his status as one of the sport’s defining talents. Getty Images Fresh off his historic run in Melbourne, Alcaraz will soon turn his focus back to a tournament that has played a meaningful role in his rise. He is scheduled to compete at the Miami Open 2026 , taking place March 18–29 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida — a venue and city that continue to resonate deeply with him. Miami Living caught up with Alcaraz a few years ago, whose reflections on the Magic City remain strikingly relevant today. Reflecting on his time in Miami, Alcaraz shared, “Oh, Miami has been such a special place for me. I’ve had some incredible times here, especially in 2022 when I won the title.” He added, “The atmosphere, the courts – there’s just something special about them.” When asked what makes the Miami Open unique, Alcaraz pointed to the setting itself. “Well, one word: the venue. Playing in an NFL stadium is a very unique tennis experience. Plus, the fans make it very special.” Looking back on his breakthrough moment, he said, “Winning my first 1000 Master series here in Miami is definitely something I won’t forget. It was a milestone moment in my career.” Carlos Alcaraz/Miami Open/Courtesy of Miami Open/IMG Off the court, Alcaraz spoke about his passion for sports beyond tennis. “I’m a bit of a sports fan myself. I love catching a basketball game, especially an NBA match. Miami has a special vibe.” He also used the moment to highlight issues larger than sport. “Climate change is such an important issue, and I believe every little effort counts,” Alcaraz said. “Personally, I think one impactful step we can take is to reduce our use of plastic. It’s something we can all contribute.” Road to Greatness In 2020, Alcaraz made his ATP main-draw debut at the age of 16, immediately marking himself as one of the sport’s most promising young players. Within a year, he broke into the ATP Top 100 and captured his first tour title. His breakthrough season came in 2022, highlighted by marquee wins over Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, a Miami Open title, and his first Grand Slam victory at the US Open — a result that made him the youngest world No. 1 in ATP history. In 2023, Alcaraz added Wimbledon to his résumé after a memorable five-set final against Djokovic. He followed that with a French Open title in 2024, showcasing his versatility across surfaces. Now, with his Australian Open victory completing the career Grand Slam, Carlos Alcaraz’s path from prodigy to generational champion is firmly etched into tennis history — with Miami once again set to be part of the next chapter.
