Carlos Alcaraz Wins Australian Open, Makes History Ahead of Miami Open 2026

Congratulations to Carlos Alcaraz on an unforgettable triumph at the Australian Open, where he defeated Novak Djokovic to capture the final missing piece of his Grand Slam collection.

With the victory, Alcaraz became the youngest man in tennis history to complete a career Grand Slam at just 22 years old, further cementing his status as one of the sport’s defining talents.

Fresh off his historic run in Melbourne, Alcaraz will soon turn his focus back to a tournament that has played a meaningful role in his rise. He is scheduled to compete at the Miami Open 2026, taking place March 18–29 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida — a venue and city that continue to resonate deeply with him.

Miami Living caught up with Alcaraz a few years ago, whose reflections on the Magic City remain strikingly relevant today.

Reflecting on his time in Miami, Alcaraz shared, “Oh, Miami has been such a special place for me. I’ve had some incredible times here, especially in 2022 when I won the title.” He added, “The atmosphere, the courts – there’s just something special about them.”

When asked what makes the Miami Open unique, Alcaraz pointed to the setting itself. “Well, one word: the venue. Playing in an NFL stadium is a very unique tennis experience. Plus, the fans make it very special.” Looking back on his breakthrough moment, he said, “Winning my first 1000 Master series here in Miami is definitely something I won’t forget. It was a milestone moment in my career.”

Off the court, Alcaraz spoke about his passion for sports beyond tennis. “I’m a bit of a sports fan myself. I love catching a basketball game, especially an NBA match. Miami has a special vibe.”

He also used the moment to highlight issues larger than sport. “Climate change is such an important issue, and I believe every little effort counts,” Alcaraz said. “Personally, I think one impactful step we can take is to reduce our use of plastic. It’s something we can all contribute.”

Road to Greatness

In 2020, Alcaraz made his ATP main-draw debut at the age of 16, immediately marking himself as one of the sport’s most promising young players. Within a year, he broke into the ATP Top 100 and captured his first tour title.

His breakthrough season came in 2022, highlighted by marquee wins over Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, a Miami Open title, and his first Grand Slam victory at the US Open — a result that made him the youngest world No. 1 in ATP history.

In 2023, Alcaraz added Wimbledon to his résumé after a memorable five-set final against Djokovic. He followed that with a French Open title in 2024, showcasing his versatility across surfaces.

Now, with his Australian Open victory completing the career Grand Slam, Carlos Alcaraz’s path from prodigy to generational champion is firmly etched into tennis history — with Miami once again set to be part of the next chapter.
