University of Miami Students Earn Three Nominations at 2026 College Television Awards

Twenty-nine University of Miami students have earned three nominations at the Television Academy Foundation’s 45th College Television Awards, a national competition that recognizes excellence in student-produced television.

UM received one nomination in the News category for NewsVision (March 6, 2025) and two nominations in the Sports category for SportsDesk and SportsDesk | The Magazine Edition | 2024. Open to undergraduate and graduate students, the awards are presented by the Television Academy Foundation and are judged by members of the Television Academy using criteria aligned with industry standards.
Winners will be announced during a red-carpet ceremony on March 28, 2026, at the Television Academy in North Hollywood, California. Nominees were selected from more than 185 entries submitted by colleges across the United States.

Sports Category: SportsDesk
Ten students were nominated for their work on SportsDesk, a weekly live half-hour show focused on sports news, interviews, and analysis. The nominated April 18 episode featured a preview of the matchup against the ranked Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, the story of a UM triathlete who served as a guide for a paratriathlete, and a segment following student Johnny Mustion as he explored professional wrestling training.
The nominated students are Taryn Jacobs (producer), Delanie Haddad (producer), Jacob Lyons (director), Manny Naccarato (writer), Jake Baum (writer), Johnny Mustion (writer), Max Keller (writer), Ashley Freedland (writer), Jordyn Cerullo (writer), and Penelope Gilbert (writer).
Sports Category: SportsDesk | The Magazine Edition | 2024
Seven students were nominated for SportsDesk | The Magazine Edition | 2024, a special-format program offering in-depth reporting and feature storytelling. The episode included an interview with a UM alum whose custom cleats are used across professional leagues, a profile on the UM Club Ice Hockey team, and a story on the UM Club Swim Team.
The nominated students are Taryn Jacobs (producer, writer), Delanie Haddad (director, producer), Jacob Lyons (producer, writer), Jadyn Cohee (producer, writer), Regina Potenza (producer, writer), Shea McDonald (writer), and Wrigley Kordt (writer).

Twelve students were nominated in the News category for NewsVision, UMTV’s live campus news program airing Thursdays at 7 p.m. The nominated episode covered the first reported measles case in Miami during a national outbreak, a campus vigil for murdered Israeli hostages, the university’s ranking by the Anti-Defamation League, and the introduction of UM’s new men’s basketball coach.
The nominated students are Katelyn Kucharski (producer), Delanie Haddad (director), Chris Perez (producer), Emma Balleste (writer), Ximena Hidalgo (producer), Taryn Jacobs (writer), Lauren Harrington (writer), Shea McDonald (writer), Kayla Butter (writer), Jordyn Minnis (producer), John Stanley (writer), and Christopher Perez (writer).

Attending nominees will also take part in two days of professional development events with industry leaders and private screenings of their projects for Television Academy members. Tickets for the ceremony are available through the College Television Awards ticket portal and are priced at $25 for students with valid ID and $50 for general admission.
