  • Miami Vascular Specialists: Renowned Expertise in the Treatment of Varicose Veins

Approximately 23% of adults in the US have varicose veins. If you include spider and reticular veins (tiny red capillary veins), the chance of having them increases to 80% of adult men and 85% of adult women. Hereditary factors are often at play here, and most adults with varicose veins will remember a parent with the same problem. However, there are other factors that can generate or worsen varicose veins such as pregnancy, prolonged standing, and obesity. While varicose veins are generally not a threat to the patient's life, they can make life very uncomfortable. Symptoms can include achy, heavy feeling of the legs. Burning, throbbing, itching, and swelling are not uncommon. In more advanced cases, skin discoloration, ulcers, and bleeding can occur. Miami Vascular Specialists would like to help. • Rosie's: The Backyard Launches a New Dinner Series

On Monday, November 14, Miami’s Southern culinary hot spot Rosie’s: The Backyard is welcoming culinary enthusiasts to engage in a night of revelry and fine dining as it introduces a new dinner series created by Executive Chef Akino West. This exclusive dinner party will feature a multi-course menu (with optional wine pairing) of indulgent cuisine under the twinkling lights and banyan tree of the open-space concept. A harmonious playlist of R&B, jazz and soul music will set the mood and liven the ambiance. Inspired by Chef West’s culinary repertoire, Southern upbringing and years working alongside chefs at award-winning restaurants, the dinner includes five carefully curated courses, featuring an array of elevated Southern-inspired dishes with subtle Italian nuances. “When creating the menu for this first dinner series, I wanted to honor and put a spin on classic dishes I grew up making with my family,” said West. “The Grandma’s Sweet Potato Pie is a perfect example, as I incorporated the brown butter to give it an elevated and sweet finish.” First and second courses include Spiced Peanuts spiked with Calabrian oil; Tender Crab with crispy shallots and Florida citrus; and Collard Green Arancini with smoked yogurt. Main courses include a Grilled Pork Chop with a Southern polenta cake, savory jus, charred okra, and dehydrated feta. The final course will include a palette cleanser and Grandma’s Sweet Potato Pie, made with semolina and brown butter. “The goal of the series is to create a memorable on-off experience as each menu is exclusive to each night, the playfulness and high level of execution of each menu will give our audience a peek of what is in store for the future of Rosie’s.” said co-owner, Jamila West. The inaugural dinner party will take place Monday, November 14, at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and is $75 per guest with the option to add a wine pairing for $35 per guest along with a pescatarian or vegetarian tasting option for an additional $10 per guest. The award-winning Acqualina Resort & Residences announces the opening of Ke-uH, a Japanese fusion restaurant in the AQ space. Ke-uH features a diverse and eclectic menu of tapas and shareable plates in an elegant and modern setting that includes indoor and outdoor seating overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. The new restaurant will complement Acqualina’s Costa Grill and Il Mulino New York restaurants. “We are thrilled to announce our partnership with Ke-uH where our guests can enjoy outstanding Japanese fusion cuisine in a stunning environment,” said Deborah Yager Fleming, CEO & Partner of Acqualina Resort. “Japanese cuisine is so popular among our hotel guests and will become a new dining hot spot and loved by residents in our area.” Ke-uH’s modern take on fine ingredients with a tapas-style menu featuring small plates is inspired to create a shared convivial experience and strongly complements Acqualina’s commitment to providing extraordinary dining experiences. The opening of Ke-uH at Acqualina marks the third restaurant in Florida, following Ke-uH in Weston and sister restaurant Kazumi in Key Biscayne. Carlos Delfino, Chef/Founder and part owner of Ke-uH and Kazumi, worked with Master Sushi Chef Oscar Noborikawa to create the inventive Ke-uH menu. Chef Noborikawa spent 14 years in Nobu Miami, perfecting his art under the disciplined tutelage of some of the country’s most revered Japanese masters before being elevated to prestigious Executive Sushi Chef. Chef Noborikawa’s command of Japanese cuisine can be distilled down to ingredients and balance. He works with trusted purveyors to import Japanese Hamachi yellowtail, Uni sea urchin, octopus and sweet shrimp, Scottish salmon, Yellowfin and Bigeye tuna from Central and South America and Bluefin tuna from the Mediterranean Sea. Chefs at Ke-uH make everything from pizza crust to ponzu sauce, yuzu soy, truffle flavors and aioli from personal recipes to accompany sushi and non-Japanese menu items include baby back ribs, sliders and Kurobuta pork belly, plus vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options. “It’s the balance in every single bite,” says Chef Noborikawa. “For me, it’s the combination of the quality of product, the preparation, the respect of and care for every single ingredient and inherent discipline to create the perfect balance of citrus, spiciness, sauce for expressive sushi.” “We are honored to be working with Acqualina to bring Ke-uH to Miami’s Sunny Isles Beach,” said owner Daniel Fernandez. “We are offering an elevated dining experience where family and friends will find something they will love and enjoy together.” Ke-uH is located at Acqualina Resort & Residences, 17875 Collins Avenue, Sunny Isles Beach, FL. • The Bass Receives $20.1M to Build New Wing

The Bass will receive $20.1 million of Miami Beach’s General Obligation Bond (G.O. Bond), which passed in yesterday’s election via Miami Beach Referendum #2. This bond, which totals $159 million, will support 16 local city-owned cultural facilities, improving their resiliency and offering a once in a lifetime opportunity to transform and expand their impact on the community. With these funds, The Bass plans to update Pritzker Prize-winning architect Arata Isozaki’s original 1995 building concept by adding a new wing south-west of the museum, as well as undertake infrastructure enhancements to the current facility. The proposed new wing will be designed as a mirror image of the existing building, adding versatile spaces for engagement and a state-of-the-art contemporary gallery for the museum’s growing permanent collection. Now that Miami Beach residents have voted to approve the G.O. Bond, The Bass will begin the process of drawing up construction plans for the project, with more updates to come. Since 2017, The Bass has been actively collecting works of contemporary art, new media and video, that delve into the themes of climate, identity and networks, amassing hundreds of works works in that brief time. With an expanded facility, the museum will have the capacity to exhibit new acquisitions while temporary exhibitions are on view in the main building, allowing the museum to continue to tell the unfolding story of our time and place through contemporary art. The Bass intends to enrich the new galleries with cutting edge educational technology that enhances the visitor experience, as well as modern ways of presenting new media and video works, artistic mediums that are a growing focus for the museum and represent a forward-thinking vision that aligns with the cultural direction of Miami Beach. “The Bass will focus its portion of the G.O. Bond to serve Miami Beach’s vibrant new audiences by increasing exhibition capacity and gallery space, adding more opportunities for dynamic encounters with contemporary art,” said Silvia Karman Cubiñá, Executive Director of The Bass. “We are thrilled with the outcome of the Miami Beach Referendum #2 vote and look forward to realizing our vision for even more diverse and inviting art experiences than ever before.” TRANSFORMATIVE BOND MEASURE “Miami Beach is a global destination for contemporary culture. G.O. Bond funds will enhance The Bass’ ability to serve a wider community and share the power of contemporary art and creativity with visitors and residents alike,” said George Lindemann, Chairman of the Board of Directors, The Bass. “I applaud the vision of the City of Miami Beach which spearheaded this G.O. Bond, and of course, the voters who approved it. These funds are a once in a generation opportunity for The Bass, as well as the other 15 arts organizations, to enable significant transformation that meets the needs of our ever-evolving community, and especially meaningful as the museum draws closer to our 60th anniversary.” A full list of arts and culture institutions benefitting from this transformative bond measure, click below!
