- Ace Your Lifestyle with Pickleball-Ready South Florida Condo Developments
If you haven’t already heard, pickleball is quickly becoming the sport of choice for many Floridians thanks to its affordability, versatility, and appeal to players of all ages and athletic backgrounds. Like tennis, golf, and countless other outdoor sports and recreational activities, pickleball can be a great way to get your daily exercise in, and it’s quickly becoming a must-have amenity for condo buyers up in Palm Beach County and all throughout the surrounding South Florida area. Even closer to home in Miami, we’re seeing more condo developments and residential communities installing pickleball courts, and given the sport’s massive spike in popularity, it’s a trend that is sure to continue in the coming years. So whether you’re searching for Palm Beach County condos with pickleball courts or luxury condo buildings that are a bit closer to Miami’s city center, here’s a closer look at just several South Florida condo developments with easy and direct access to the hottest sport going right now. Towers of Quayside 1000 Quayside Terrace, Miami, FL 33138 Spanning 33 acres, the resort-style condo complex known as the Towers of Quayside is largely defined by its premium lifestyle amenities, which not only include tennis, racquetball, and pickleball courts but also multiple swimming pools, a restaurant and bar, and access to an incredible exercise facility that also offers regular fitness classes. Inside, many condos at the Towers of Quayside offer premium water views, and most units are also updated and outfitted with high-end interior finishes that range from modern kitchens to spa-quality bathrooms. Grove Hill 2645 S. Bayshore Drive, Coconut Grove, FL 33133 If you’re looking for quaint, small-town charm just outside the lively and vibrant setting that is downtown Miami, you’ll definitely find it in Coconut Grove. It’s also in Coconut Grove that you’ll find Grove Hill Tower, a chic, 21-story condo building with just 77 magnificent condominium residences. With only 4 units per floor, Grove Hill condos provide just a little extra privacy and exclusivity than your typical South Florida high-rise, which is probably why you don’t see units hit the market here often. The collection of premium lifestyle amenities at Grove Hill also makes this building appealing to luxury condo buyers and includes 24-hour security, an on-site dog park, tennis and pickleball courts, a lap pool, and a full-size fitness center with a sauna. Mediterranean Village 3500 Island Boulevard, Aventura, FL 33160 If there’s a more “Florida-esque” condo community than Aventura’s Mediterranean Village, we don’t know about it. This aptly named development features three separate 5-story buildings that feature classic Mediterranean architecture, not to mention a wealth of appeal and desirability. From towering, mature palm trees to lush landscaping found all throughout the community grounds, Mediterranean Village provides condo buyers with the ultimate tropical setting. Floor plans throughout the buildings are also relatively flexible and offer anywhere from 2 to 4 bedrooms and up to 4,339 square feet, ensuring space won’t be an issue if you find a place on the higher end of that range. As for amenities at the complex, condo owners enjoy 24-hour valet service, 24-hour security, on-site management, a heated swimming pool with a massive sunbathing area, an on-site restaurant and deli, and yes—pickleball courts as well. One Paraiso 3131 NE 7th Ave, Miami, FL 33137 Many consider One Paraiso to be among Miami’s premier residential towers, and we’re inclined to agree thanks to the amazing views and luxury interiors nearly every single unit in the building features. Floor-to-ceiling windows, private balconies, and thoughtfully designed layouts that take advantage of said views highlight individual unit features, and the resort-style amenities that range from a state-of-the-art fitness center to a swimming pool and beach club also help elevate the standard of living at Miami’s one-and-only One Paraiso. And because it’s a newer construction building, the pickleball courts here are also in about as good of shape as you’ll find, making it the go-to building for luxury condo buyers who truly love playing. - Maison Perrier-Jouët Unveils Its Latest Artistic Collaboration
Artist and designer Fernando Laposse creates an installation inspired by his observation of nature and the essential connections between different species. Every year since 2012, Maison Perrier-Jouët has commissioned both established and emerging creative talents, with whom it shares a vision of nature, to reinterpret its Art Nouveau heritage for the 21st century. In 2023, the House is delighted to announce its collaboration with the Mexican artist and designer Fernando Laposse, who has created an installation inspired by the flower. He focuses on the key role played by the flower in a series of remarkable relationships within the ecosystem, notably the process of pollination. Pierre-Nicolas Perrier and Rose-Adélaïde Jouët, who established Maison Perrier-Jouët in 1811, passed on to subsequent generations, not only their vision of champagne, but also their love of art and nature. After their son, Charles Perrier, it fell to Henri and Octave Gallice to keep this heritage alive. The brothers, who were art collectors and aesthetes, met Emile Gallé in 1902. A noted botanist, he was one of the pioneers of the Art Nouveau movement, which took nature as a source of inspiration. Emile Gallé decorated a magnum with a Japanese white anemone, evoking the floral style of Perrier-Jouët champagnes. More than a century on, this flower is a fitting symbol of the close relationship with art and nature that has defined Maison Perrier-Jouët since it was founded. In 2023, Maison Perrier-Jouët is continuing to highlight the need to (re)think our relationship with nature through its new creative partnership with Fernando Laposse. The Mexican artist and designer shares the House’s vision of a world in which all species, mankind included, are of equal importance. From the collaboration between all these life forms, potential solutions may emerge to the environmental problems faced by our societies, holding out the prospect of a brighter future. Fernando Laposse advocates a return to the observation of nature, as evidenced by his installation, which was inspired by the fundamental role of the flower within the ecosystem to which all species belong. In particular, he focuses on the process of pollination, with its complex and harmonious interactions between plants and the insects and animals which pollinate them. Pollen is the essential connection between the protagonists in this precious, ephemeral event, which is a celebration of life. Fernando Laposse manifests a profound connection to nature through inspiring projects that raise awareness of ecological challenges, both local and global, including soil erosion and loss of biodiversity. His artistic practice, which is deeply rooted in the rural milieu, has simultaneous cultural, historical, social, political and environmental dimensions. For the past 10 years, Fernando Laposse has been working with native farmers in south-eastern Mexico to develop new materials and systems of production that will benefit the local community and environment. His approach demonstrates that design can be a force for change. Encouraging meditation, observation and reflection, the installation by Fernando Laposse will be unveiled in an exclusive preview in Tokyo, from 11 to 29 October 2023, in a pop-up space devoted to art, nature and champagne, the three founding pillars of Maison Perrier-Jouët. The House will subsequently exhibit the installation at Design Miami/, in the context of its partnership with the world-leading art fair, from 6 to 10 December 2023. Ahead of these two rendezvous, Maison Perrier-Jouët has presented two limited editions – for Perrier-Jouët Blanc de Blancs and Perrier-Jouët Belle Epoque 2014 – created by Fernando Laposse and inspired by his installation. About Fernando Laposse Fernando Laposse is a London-based Mexican artist and designer, who trained at Central Saint Martins as a product designer. He specialises in transforming humble natural materials into refined design pieces, working extensively with overlooked plant fibres such as sisal, loofah and corn leaves. He often works with indigenous communities in his native Mexico to create local employment opportunities and raise awareness about the challenges they face in a globalised world. His projects are informative and educational, addressing topics such as the environmental crisis, loss of biodiversity, community dissolution, migration and the negative impacts of global trade in local agriculture and food culture. His work documents the issues and announces possible resolutions through the transformative power of design. His projects have been exhibited at the Triennale di Milano, the Cooper Hewitt Design Museum, the Victoria & Albert Museum, the World Economic Forum and Miami Basel, among others. - Louis Vuitton’s Women’s Spring-Summer 2024
Presented in Paris’s greatest avenue – the Champs-Élysées – the show featured pieces that were designed to be as light as possible. Long flowing skirts and silk blouses emitted a breezy feel, while chunky belts and leather bomber jackets exemplified the artful movement of clothing. Nicolas Ghesquière noted “Vuitton is a luxury brand but it’s about function, it provides a service: to travel better. Mobility is important in clothes.” For Spring/Summer 2024, Louis Vuitton collaborated with James Chinlund to create an immersive show venue that mimicked a hot air balloon inside and out. - Artist Agnieszka Pestka’s “Agur” Exhibition Arrives in Palm Beach
Starting October 8th, cutting-edge New York City-based visual artist Agnieszka Pestka is taking over Palm Beach’s Worth Avenue throughout October to showcase her latest South Florida-inspired exhibition, “Agur.” For her creative return to Florida, sculptor Agnieszka Pestka decided there could be no other venue for her latest exhibition than Palm Beach’s paradisal luxury hub, Worth Avenue. Inspired by the Basque word for ‘goodbye,’ Pestka’s “Agur” serves as a dual farewell to the slow retreat of South Floridian Summer, and a greeting to the changing temperatures of Autumn. Using a collection of etched tri-layer zinc plates sourced throughout Florida, Pestka has curated an exhibition which reflects the delicate and varied beauty of South Florida’s natural resources, creating a larger portrait of Palm Beach’s sprawling landscapes. When pieced together, Pestka’s 16 individually etched plates form a collective story of Florida’s key natural characteristics; from the waves of the Atlantic to the verdant, mysterious imagery of the Everglades, “Agur’s” intimate retelling of South Florida’s environmental history is a simply unmissable new gem in Palm Beach’s crown. At the heart of Pestka's art is a mission to revive the oft-forgotten mastery of etch work, displaying the dedication and craft which goes into each and every zinc plate, which can take weeks at a time to complete. A quick browse through the visual artist’s portfolio showcases the captivating universe Pestka has curated throughout her collections, drawing upon the spirit of freeform unpredictability which Pestka infuses into each of her hammered steel and plate works. Since her studies at New York City’s School of Visual Arts, Pestka has continuously moved the goalpost for her involvement in both artistry and activism, challenging the conventional boundaries of traditional sculpting to craft art which engages with everything from death to womanhood to animal rights, all of which tied together with a singular theme of questioning the elusive qualities of human existence, as evidenced in her acclaimed New York exhibition, Between Jasmine Flowers. The eagerly awaited opening of Pestka’s “Agur” is now available for viewing from October 8th through October 27th. As she makes her return to Florida, the sculptor is also in the process of fine-tuning her own personal studio and showroom at her artistic homebase in New York’s Chelsea district, with a grand opening scheduled for late November. Through displaying the jagged angles and soft, sweeping flora of Florida’s many ecosystems, Pestka has painstakingly constructed a narrative which communicates the rare beauty of the Sunshine State at every turn, allowing audiences of all ages to partake in Pestka’s recreation of Florida’s many tropical faces. Looking ahead, Pestka will be serving as an artist in residence at Miami Beach’s legendary Art Basel exhibition from December 8th through December 10th, 2023, showcasing her latest collection of zinc-etched plates. Agnieszka Pestka’s latest exhibition, “Agur,” is now open in Palm Beach, located at Worth Avenue, Palm Beach. - Florida Grand Opera's 2023–24 Season Kicks Off With ‘LA TRAVIATA’
Florida Grand Opera (FGO)’s 82nd season opens in the glittering salons of 19th-century Paris, where the hottest party girl in town sips champagne and harbors a terrible secret. La traviata (The Fallen Woman), Giuseppe Verdi's most romantic and moving score, tells the story of the doomed romance between Violetta Valéry and Alfredo Germont, the scion of a wealthy provincial family. Verdi's frequent collaborator, Francesco Maria Piave, wrote the libretto based on Alexandre Dumas fils' novel-turned-play La dame aux camélias (The Lady of the Camellias), which in turn is loosely based on the romantic adventures of the author. The lady in question was Marie Duplessis, a well-known courtesan of the day, whose wealthy and influential lovers included diplomats, nobility, writers, businessmen, and the composer Franz Liszt. She died in 1847 from tuberculosis at just 23 years old. Leonardo Capalbo and Ailyn Peréz in FGO's 2008 La traviata. Photo by Deborah Gray Mitchell. Verdi began composing his masterpiece in 1851, immediately after seeing the play. The opera premiered at La Fenice in Venice on March 6, 1853. It was not an immediate success, due partly to the age and curvaceousness of the leading soprano, the poor singing of the male artists, and the censors’ insistence that the opera be set in the 18th century instead of Verdi's preference for a modern setting. Regardless, Verdi triumphed in the end. La traviata remains one of the most popular and frequently performed operas of all time. Violetta Valéry is a renowned Parisian courtesan who downplays her ongoing battle with tuberculosis as she determinedly pursues a life filled with extravagant revelries. When young Alfredo Germont declares his love for her, however, she cannot resist and abandons her career in favor of quiet country domesticity. Alfredo’s father, Giorgio Germont, interrupts the lovers’ idyll with demands that they separate for the sake of his young daughter. Alfredo’s association with a fallen woman tarnishes the family’s reputation. Violetta nobly agrees to the sacrifice but realizes that she must trick Alfredo into leaving her by pretending that she no longer loves him and returning to her old life. Hurt, humiliated, and incensed, Alfredo publicly denounces her, challenges her new protector to a duel, and is forced to flee the country after wounding the man. As Violetta lies on her deathbed, Alfredo and Germont return to reconcile with her at last, and she dies in Alfredo’s arms. The opera is resplendent with Verdi's trademark memorable melodies, from Violetta’s sparkling “Sempre libera, to Germont’s pleading “Di Provenza,” to the gentle and heartbreaking love duet “Parigi o cara.” One of the most famous pieces is the first act Brindisi or drinking song, "Libiamo nei lieta calici." Mexican-American soprano Cecilia Violetta López returns to Florida Grand Opera in her signature role as Violetta. She was last seen as Rosalba in 2018's Florencia in el Amazonas. Opera News named the native Idahoan one of opera’s “25 Rising Stars” and USA Today acclaimed her as one of “Idaho’s Top Ten Most Influential Women of the Century.” The proud daughter of immigrant farmworkers who came to the US to realize the American dream, López has performed Violetta with Minnesota Opera, Opera Colorado, Opera Tampa, Opera Idaho, Ash Lawn Opera, The Northern Lights Music Festival, Madison Opera, Pacific Symphony and Virginia Opera. Her repertoire includes Adina (The Elixir of Love), the title role of Manon, Nedda (I pagliacci), Maria (West Side Story), Marguerite (Faust), Mimi (La bohème) the Countess (The Marriage of Figaro), and many others. She made her critically acclaimed European début as Norina in Don Pasquale with Zomeropera in Belgium. López has also appeared with Opera Las Vegas, LoftOpera, Opera Southwest, Opera Saratoga, Prototype Opera Festival, Opera San Luis Obispo, Madison Opera, and many others. Award-winning Belarusian tenor Pavel Patrov makes his American debut as Alfredo. He is the winner of the First Prize and the Don Placido Domingo Ferrer Prize of Zarzuela of Operalia 2018, The World Opera Competition, and finalist of the Belvedere and Queen Sonja International Music competitions. His busy international career includes recent appearances as Tamino (The Magic Flute) at Wiener Staatsoper, Opéra National de Paris and Dresden Semperoper, the Verdi Requiem with Orquesta Sinfonica del Principado de Asturias, and Lensky (Eugene Onegin) at Teatro Massimo di Palermo. Previous highlights include his Wiener Staatsoper debut as Nemorino (The Elixir of Love) and Tamino (The Magic Flute), Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni) at Opéra National de Paris and Oper Graz the Duke (Rigoletto) for Opera Hong Kong and Bregenzer Festspiele, and Alfredo (La traviata) for Savonlinna Festival, among many others. Baritone and former Florida Grand Opera Studio Artist Troy Cook last appeared at Florida Grand Opera as Enrico in 2017’s Lucia di Lammermoor. The Kentucky native returns in the role of Giorgio Germont. Often acclaimed for his vocal and physical elegance, Cook has graced the stages of some of the world’s greatest opera houses, including The Metropolitan Opera, Royal Opera Covent Garden, San Francisco Opera, La Monnaie (Brussels), and Opera Bilbao. He created the role of Father Palmer in Kevin Puts’ and Mark Campbell’s acclaimed Silent Night at Minnesota Opera and the role of John Cree in Puts and Campbell’s Elizabeth Cree at Opera Philadelphia. Recent performances include his 4th different production as Marcello (La bohème) with Opera Philadelphia, his Virginia Opera debut as Major General Stanley in The Pirates of Penzance, Germont with Inland Northwest Opera, and Sharpless in Madama Butterfly with Palm Beach Opera. Other frequently performed roles include Tonio (I pagliacci), Enrico (Lucia di Lammermoor), Rodrigo (Don Carlo), Valentin (Faust), and Ford (Falstaff), to name a few. A mixture of guests and Studio Artists round out the cast. South Florida baritone José Vazquez appears as the Marquis D'Obigny. Second-year Studio Artist, tenor Joseph McBrayer, will sing the role of Gastone de Letorieres. The remaining roles will be taken by first-year Studio Artists, soprano Sara Kennedy (Annina), Taylor-Alexis DuPont (Flora Bervoix), Joseph Canuto Leon (Baron Douphol), and Keith Klein (Doctor Grenville). The roles of Giuseppe, the Messenger, and Flora’s Servant will be sung by Florida Grand Opera choristers, to be announced. La traviata marks Ecuadoran stage director and composer Chía Patiño’s FGO debut while conductor Joe Illick, former Interim Artistic Director at FGO’s predecessor Greater Miami Opera, returns to the podium for the first time since 1993. Sets are by Peter Dean Beck, with costumes designed by Florida Grand Opera stalwart, the late Allen Charles Klein. “We couldn’t be happier with this stellar international cast, all of whom are seasoned on the stage and particularly in these roles,” says Susan T. Danis, General Director and CEO. “We are excited to kick off our 82nd season with such a beautiful and popular piece, chosen especially for the tastes of our South Florida audiences. They love grand opera and grand singing, and this cast and production will deliver both.” La traviata has been made possible with the support of the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs, the Cultural Affairs Council, the Mayor, and the Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners, as well as the Broward County Cultural Division, the Florida Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs, and the Janet Trager Salz Charitable Trust. Additional funding for this programming has been received from Funding Arts Network (FAN) and The Community Foundation of Broward has provided support for FGO's Youth Education programming, enabling the opera to offer youth tickets and transportation to La traviata through its HOPE (Having an Opera Performance Experience) initiative. Pavel Petrov, Cecilia Violetta López, Troy Cook La traviata plays November 11, 12, and 14 at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts, and November 30 and December 2 at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. Subscriptions and single tickets for the 2023–24 season are currently on sale at fgo.org or by calling 800.741.1010. - A Glimpse into Schoelkopf Gallery's Selection of Artists for Art Basel Miami Beach 2023
Schoelkopf Gallery is pleased to present a selection of exceptional paintings and works on paper by twentieth-century American artists including Milton Avery, Charles Burchfield, Oscar Bluemner, Stuart Davis, Arthur Dove, Richard Estes, John Marin, Georgia O’Keeffe, Arthur B. Carles, Elie Nadelman, Felrath Hines, Joseph Stella, and Elizabeth Catlett. These artists reinvented conventional genres such as landscape and still life through new lenses, developing singular modes of expression within and alongside important twentieth-century movements including Cubism, Futurism, Precisionism, Abstract Expressionism, Color Field Painting, and Photorealism. Spanning the twentieth century, Schoelkopf Gallery’s curated presentation investigates the experiments with new materials and methods with which artists across America engaged as they responded to rapidly evolving events and experiences.
