  • Sip, Savor and Soak Up the Sun: The Break House Kitchen + Bar Open Now in Deerfield Beach

If you have been dreaming of a coastal escape without leaving South Florida, your next favorite spot has officially arrived. The Break House Kitchen + Bar  has opened its doors in Deerfield Beach, bringing a fresh wave of oceanfront dining, rooftop cocktails and all-day beachside vibes. Conceived by Danielle Rosse, the visionary behind Oceans 234 , The Break House offers something for every type of beach goer. Whether you are grabbing a quick coffee before a morning stroll, indulging in a leisurely lunch or catching the sunset with a cocktail in hand, this two-story, 4,283-square-foot destination is designed for connection, comfort and, of course, great food.  Three Ways To ‘Break’ Away The Break House introduces three distinct dining experiences under one roof: Grab-and-Go Café: Perfect for those dashing from the pier or the beach. Counter-Service Restaurant: Sit down and enjoy chef-driven, modern coastal dishes. Rooftop Bar: Deerfield Beach’s first-ever rooftop bar, serving drinks with panoramic Atlantic Ocean views. Inside, the design is a mix of relaxed coastal elegance and artistic flair. Bright, colorful carvings by Alex Yanis adorn the exterior, while inside, lofty ceilings, wood geometric light pendants and deep navy-and-neutral tones create a polished, breezy atmosphere. Upstairs, the rooftop bar embraces sunbaked wood and terra-cotta hues, inviting guests to unwind while taking in stunning ocean vistas.  Chef-Driven Coastal Cuisine Award-winning Chef Dean Max helms the kitchen, curating a menu that blends light, fresh and locally inspired dishes with bold seasonal flavors. Breakfast kicks off at 7:00 a.m. with items like the Banana Bliss Toast or the hearty Burrito on a Break. Come midday, the All-Day Menu offers creative “BeachBites,” fresh salads, globally inspired sandwiches and flavorful bowls, plus options for kids in the “Beach Bums Kids” menu. Upstairs, the rooftop bar pairs these dishes with signature cocktails and mocktails, from the tropical Beach Lychee to the refreshing Aquamarine. Happy hour runs Monday through Friday, featuring discounted wine, cocktails, mocktails and beers. Community at the Core Rosse emphasizes that The Break House isn’t just a place to eat, it’s a community hub. “Every decision—from the design to the menu—was made with our city and its residents in mind,” she says. With a semiprivate dining room, catering options and upcoming events like Wine Wednesdays, it’s clear The Break House aims to be a cornerstone of Deerfield Beach’s evolving culinary scene. The Break House Kitchen + Beach Bar is located at 202 NE 21st Ave., Deerfield Beach, just steps from the Deerfield Beach International Fishing Pier. The downstairs dining area is open daily from 7:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., and the rooftop bar is open from noon to 11:00 p.m., making it the ultimate destination for sips and bites. Locals and visitors alike now have a go-to spot for sunrise coffee, sunset cocktails and everything in between, all with your toes in the sand and the Atlantic breeze in your hair. By ML Staff. • World Literacy Foundation Expands Christmas Book Pack Drive to Confront Florida’s Illiteracy Crisis

The World Literacy Foundation is preparing to distribute its annual Christmas book packs to children in low-income and highly disadvantaged communities across Florida, where an estimated 61% of young people do not own a single book. The initiative, created in partnership with USA Reads, aims to strengthen early literacy by giving children access to age-appropriate books during the holiday season. During a visit to Florida, World Literacy Foundation CEO Andrew Kay underscored the severity of the state’s literacy challenges. According to Kay, 40–60% of 10-year-olds from low socioeconomic backgrounds are unable to read a full sentence, a gap that significantly limits future opportunities in education and employment. The holiday period, he noted, provides a meaningful moment to reach children with resources that can inspire curiosity and build foundational reading skills. The program follows the distribution of 2,600 literacy packs in 2024, with hopes of doubling that number this year. Volunteers and book supporters across the state play a central role, donating time and resources to help deliver the curated book packs and encourage a love of reading within their communities. Now in its 12th year, USA Reads continues to work with schools, small businesses, and community groups to collect books, raise funds, and organize local volunteer efforts. Each Christmas pack includes books and basic educational tools designed to engage children in both reading and writing. The Foundation is inviting Floridians to participate by volunteering, donating books, or contributing financially. More information is available on the World Literacy Foundation website. By ML Staff. • Ryan Keeley and Grey/Ven Debut Resurrect in Light at SCOPE Miami to Support Malibu’s Recovery

Artist Ryan Keeley will premiere Resurrect in Light at SCOPE Miami Art Show during Miami Art Week 2025, presented in partnership with quiet luxury label Grey/Ven. The project is rooted in Malibu’s wildfire recovery effort and aims to raise awareness and support for Friends of Malibu Urgent Care, which has been central to community rebuilding efforts following the fires earlier this year. The concept began after Keeley was invited to create work inside the stark, dismantled Tadao Ando–designed Malibu home formerly owned by Ye (Kanye West). The site became the catalyst for a series exploring fracture, renewal and transformation. Keeley incorporated Malibu sand and wildfire ash into custom pigments, using them to create canvases that reflect both the destruction and the resilience of the region. The process was documented through both painting and video. To expand the project’s reach, Keeley brought in longtime collaborator Scott Weissman, CEO of Grey/Ven. The brand’s involvement connects the art world with a broader creative community during Miami Art Week, aligning with Grey/Ven’s focus on fashion, cultural dialogue and artistic collaboration. At SCOPE, the partnership will present an extensive, multi-part installation, including: A 5,000-square-foot live painting on the exterior of SCOPE’s walls A dedicated booth featuring works created in Malibu and opportunities to meet Keeley A combined canvas and video exhibit Artist-painted paddle ball courts for the Art Week pro tournament, sponsored by Grey/Ven A private event featuring a special installation and models wearing Grey/Ven garments printed with Keeley’s artwork The debut will also introduce Keeley Paint X Supply, a new eco-luxury paint line inspired by the Malibu project. The collection will include pigments made using sand, debris and other natural materials gathered from fire-impacted areas. More information on the artist is available at Keeley Studios and on Instagram . Details on Grey/Ven can be found through the brand’s website and Instagram . By ML Staff. • Celine Spring 2026: A Modern Homage to Heritage

The Celine Spring 2026 Ready-to-Wear collection, unveiled by creative director Michael Rider, brings a refined balance of heritage and modernity to the forefront of Parisian fashion. Presented outdoors at the scenic Parc de Saint-Cloud, the show embodied freedom, functionality, and understated polish. Rider described the collection as a “continuation” of his July couture debut — a nod to the house’s timeless icons while carving out a new direction that is distinctly his own. Highlights included silk scarves reimagined as tops, sharp navy blazers versatile enough for day or evening, and fluid wide-leg trousers that reaffirmed Celine’s legacy as a master of tailoring. Practical elegance defined the collection’s spirit. Inspired by the rhythm of city life, looks were crafted for movement and ease — models carried Celine helmets, coats featured sleek utility pockets, and layers flowed naturally without compromising on luxury. ’60s-inspired mini dresses bloomed in daisy prints, while the iconic Triomphe bags and minimalist outerwear reinforced the Maison’s effortless sophistication. • Little Lighthouse Foundation Expands Holiday Toy Distribution to Reach Thousands More Children

The Little Lighthouse Foundation (LLF) is preparing for its 2024 Holiday Toy Distribution at Global Empowerment Mission (GEM), continuing a program that has operated annually since 2009. Originally launched at Chapman Partnership, the initiative has grown into LLF’s longest-running specialty program, now providing toys, games and essential items to children from more than 90 partner facilities. Over the years, the event has expanded dramatically, supported by hundreds of volunteers and community partners. This year, LLF will use a hybrid model designed to increase its reach. The first component brings children and families from LLF’s partner facilities directly to the event. Transportation will be provided by LLF, and volunteers will help distribute toys and games onsite. The second component focuses on direct distributions: LLF, in partnership with Global Empowerment Mission, will deliver toys, games and meal boxes to participating facilities before and after the main event, enabling staff to share them with families who cannot attend in person. The dual approach allows LLF to serve significantly more children across South Florida while maintaining the interactive experience that has defined the Toy Distribution since its early years. Those interested in volunteering with the Little Lighthouse Foundation can call 786.890.6854 or contact the team at volunteer@thelittlelighthouse.org . By ML Staff. Photos:

  • Pan American Art Projects Opens From Ashes to Light and No More Heroes in Final Little River Exhibition

Two new exhibitions—From Ashes to Light and No More Heroes—open November 30 at Pan American Art Projects, marking the gallery’s final season in Miami’s Little River before relocating to new spaces in Allapattah and another yet-to-be-announced site. Sandra Ramos, La Cueva, 2025. Acrylic paint, charcoal, golden pigment and clay, 60 x 48 in Sandra Ramos: From Ashes to Light The solo exhibition features two bodies of work by Cuban artist Sandra Ramos: Golden Ruins: The Allegory of the Cave (2025) and Ashes & Diamonds (2018). Together, they trace a thematic arc from illusion to revelation, addressing cycles of destruction, enlightenment and rebirth. In Golden Ruins, Ramos reinterprets Plato’s allegory for the digital age, framing contemporary life as a cavern of screens where virtual images replace lived experience. Through materials such as clay, charcoal and gold pigment, she reintroduces physicality to reflect on grounding, perception and the search for clarity. The earlier series Ashes & Diamonds expands this reflection to the ruins of modern civilization. Works incorporate ash, coal and brittle structures that evoke ecological vulnerability, political uncertainty and the sense of standing at a threshold in history. Together, the pieces form a visual meditation on collapse and renewal, suggesting that illumination often begins in the aftermath of destruction. Reynier Leyva Novo, Un dia feliz No. 6, 2016. Ultrachrome Print, 22 x 33 in (I) / 2.5 x 3.75 in (II) Collective Exhibition: No More Heroes The group show No More Heroes examines a world where cultural myths and collective ideals have eroded. Borrowing its title from the 1977 song by The Stranglers, the exhibition brings together represented artists and works from the gallery’s collection. The featured artists navigate space between memory and silence, faith and doubt, reconstructing meaning from the remnants of once-fixed narratives. Rather than mourning the loss of heroes, the show presents their disappearance as a point of possibility—an opening for new forms of vulnerability, resistance and beauty. In this terrain, art steps in not to restore myth but to provoke reflection and illuminate what remains. Courtesy of PanAmericanArt Projects. A Farewell to Little River These exhibitions close an important chapter for the gallery. Pan American Art Projects will soon move forward with a new showroom in Allapattah and a second location outside Miami, with details to be announced. More information is available on the gallery’s website . Location : 274 NE 67th Street, Miami Hours : Tuesday–Saturday, 11 a.m.–5 p.m. By ML Staff.
