- FENDI Caffe Opens in Miami Design District
FENDI announces the return from March 17th through May 1st, 2022, of the iconic FENDI CAFFE at OTL Restaurant in the heart of Miami’s vibrant Design District, located across from the FENDI Boutique, following the great success of the FF Vertigo-inspired iteration in the Summer 2021. In a celebration of the spring season, the new creative concept for the FENDI CAFFE draws creative cues from the FENDI Women’s Spring/Summer 2022 Collection, and its inspiration from the figurative drawings of visionary fashion illustrator Antonio Lopez. In collaboration with The Estate and Archive of Antonio Lopez and Juan Ramos, the artist’s work has been freshly revived for the FENDI Women’s Spring/Summer 2022 Collection, bringing a modern perspective on disco-age glamour, and a spotlight on the diverse and powerful femininity that underscores the FENDI name. With a bold sunset graphic in hues of red, orange, and yellow, the FENDI CAFFE takes over the outdoor corridors of the restaurant and FENDI Boutique. The concept comes to life with illustrations of ‘Lopez Girls’ – focusing on Lopez’s innovative vision on femininity, diversity, inclusivity, and unconventional beauty – emblazoned across the outside of the space. Upon entering, guests will immediately discover the space transformed into a world of FENDI and Antonio Lopez. The space will be adorned with rainbow graphics, and the sketches of ‘Lopez Girls’ come to life in 3D billboard sculptures. The FENDI CAFFE tables embrace the 70’s aesthetic, with the colorful sunset graphics topping each surface. The theme is continued throughout with custom FENDI table settings and takeaway elements, as well as decorative details for the menu’s food and beverage. The hand-sketched version of the FENDI logo inspired by Lopez’s original work for the brand appears throughout elements of the café. The FENDI CAFFE menu includes a fusion of local and Italian favorite breakfast and lunch items, as well as beverages including a signature FF logo cappuccino served in porcelain cups decorated with FENDI’s signature Pequin striped motif. An evening Aperitivo menu will also be offered. Sweet and savory bites will include special FF logo toast and paninis, as well as a variety of pastries and baked goods in special FENDI packaging. - Miami Design District Celebrates Haitian Heritage Month with Noula Exhibition
In honor of Haitian Heritage Month, Miami Design District's Buick Building is home to NOULA: a Haitian art exhibition that challenges the idea of Haitian experience and existence. This showcase brings together contemporary Haitian artists from different parts of the world, who disrupt and confront negative notions about Haitian culture, societal standards, and the perceptions of self-identity in relation to imposed narratives. Additionally, the Miami Design District commissioned Afro-Brazilian artist Criola to create a permanent mural for Jungle Plaza. Her work is slated to unveil this June and is titled Interdimensional Portal. MORE ON NOULA NOULA addresses historical and contemporary systemic issues, while using the homeland of Haiti as an example and a beacon. This exhibition illuminates the great contributions Haiti has offered throughout history. These artists, in their cultural context, are addressing stereotypes, biases which affect self-perception, and the misconception of their own country. These Haitian artists encourage us to celebrate an emerging cultural exhibition, transforming the Buick Building into an immersive gallery. All from different parts of the world, these artists showcase original art, sculptures, drawings, and mixed-media- in hopes of sparking new expectations in the world of Haitian art. The exhibition notably features conceptual art from Michaelle Sergile, film projection from Steven Baboun and sculptures from Nico Vorbe. In the spirit of Diasporic engagement, NOULA bridges the gap between classic works from old masters and contemporary masters to the most recent work by contemporary artists. This thematic exhibition displays Haitian Heritage through the lens of today’s most prominent and contemporary Haitian artists. By ML Staff. Images courtesy of Noula Exhibition

- 4th Annual Frost Chopin Festival Returns live June 19 - 26
The Frost School of Music at the University of Miami and the Chopin Foundation of the U.S. are pleased to announce the fourth annual Frost Chopin Festival. The critically acclaimed week-long event begins Sunday June 19, and will conclude Sunday, June 26 returning live in-person this year following last year’s highly successful all-virtual platform due to the COVID crisis. This year generous donor support has enabled all concerts to be available free of charge with more full scholarships awarded to participants selected this year than in previous editions. Concerts will take place at UM’s Maurice Gusman Concert Hall located on the University of Miami Campus, 1314 Miller Drive in Coral Gables, Florida and will be livestreamed to a global audience via the Frost YouTube channel. “We are so excited to be able to host the return of the Frost Chopin Festival with in-person events, offering world-class classical music to the people of South Florida free of charge,” states Kevin Kenner, Frost Chopin Festival Academy Founder, Artistic Director and Associate Professor of piano at the Frost School of Music. “We especially want to welcome those who have rarely come to classical music events in hopes they will discover the transformative power and beauty of this music.” In addition to the concerts featuring some of the most celebrated pianists of the music of Chopin today, an integral part of the Frost Chopin Festival is the Academy. The Academy offers each participant specialized masterclasses and lectures fashioned to help with specific issues surrounding the performance of Chopin’s works. Guest lecturers will share their specialized knowledge of Chopin in the form of workshops and subsequent breakout groups applying newly learned skills. Workshops are also open to the general public free of charge. The 4th annual edition of the Frost Chopin Festival is especially significant for the Chopin Foundation, states Barbara Muze, Executive Director of the Chopin Foundation of the U.S. “The program really goes to the heart of the Foundation’s mission by both supporting the young talented pianists who receive the finest musical instruction, and by offering accessible, high quality classical music concerts by world renowned artists to the South Florida community. Additionally, a total of seven pianists from our Scholarship Program for Young Pianists will be participating this summer. Because of Frost’s philosophy which is rooted in the transformative power of music, the Chopin Foundation has started an endowment fund for the Frost Chopin Festival, which will allow the Frost School to continue in perpetuity this important celebration and pedagogy of Chopin. Our goal is to reach $100,000 (or more) within the next 5 years and we hope that others who recognize the importance of this great program will join the Chopin Foundation with additional pledges to the endowment.” This year’s festival has many highlights, notably two concerts featuring some of Ukraine’s finest treasures: the illustrious Ukrainian-Polish soprano Olga Pasichnyk performing Ukrainian and Polish songs, and one of Ukraine’s most gifted young talents, 16-year-old pianist Khrystyna Mykhailichenko, one of the event’s students receiving a full scholarship. Khrystyna, who had to flee her Ukrainian home and is now living in Poland and will perform works by Bach, Beethoven, Chopin and Ukrainian composer Mykola Lysenko. “At this disturbing moment in world events, I have been deeply concerned for the people of Ukraine,” states Kevin Kenner. “This unjust war has not only shocked the world, but is also taking aim at Ukraine’s rich cultural heritage, as it attempts to erase the very identity of the Ukrainian people, their literature, art and music. Our Festival, therefore, has aligned with the King Baudouin Foundation of U.S Relief Fund for Ukrainian Musicians. Donations can be made at https://bit.ly/FrostChopinSupportsUkraine.
