  • Klaw Restaurant Officially Opens in Miami Woman's Club

International entrepreneur Sasha Krilov and global restaurateur Misha Zelman opened their doors of their newest joint culinary venture, Klaw Restaurant – on July 1st in the historic Miami Woman’s Club building. The restaurant’s culinary program is helmed by Brand Executive Chef Phil Campbell who has dedicated over five years to sourcing coveted King Crab from Norway’s Barents Sea as well as an exclusive global beef program that includes certified USDA Black Angus Nebraskan beef. Reviving the 96-year-old Miami Woman’s Club, Klaw occupies 14,800 square feet in the historic Spanish Renaissance building. The five-story waterfront building is deeply rooted in Miami’s history as one of the first buildings in Florida to be listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Nestled inside, the highly anticipated restaurant spans from the fourth through the sixth floors of the building: rising from a grand dining room with massive colonial-arched windows and an adjacent private dining space, to a full-floor kitchen, and finishing off with Edgewater’s only rooftop bar that boasts breathtaking, unobstructed views of Biscayne Bay and beyond. CULINARY PROGRAM Klaw’s culinary program offers an unmatched land and sea experience even for Miami’s most discerning gastronomes. Spearheaded by Campbell, he is joined by King Crab expert Chef James Wright. Klaw’s sea program is a work of art offering only the finest delicacies. The King Crab served at Klaw comes directly from the frigid waters of the Arctic Ocean north of Norway straight to the sunny coastline of Miami. Kept live in bespoke tanks as a design focal point of the sixth floor, the King Crab retains its maximum freshness and taste, right up until the time guests place their dinner orders. Klaw’s presentation of the King Crab is show-stopping, especially when these are served whole and deshelled tableside before being placed on the table – almost like a centerpiece – to be shared with the entire party. Other delicacies from the sea include caviar cones, sustainably-sourced bluefin tuna, hand-dived east coast scallops, East/West coast oysters, and more. The culinary team at Klaw has also curated a beef rearing program entirely from scratch, allowing the restaurant to deliver flavors and cuts that are not only exclusive to the restaurant but also simply unmatched in the Magic City. Chef Campbell works closely with local and national farmers and suppliers, who follow distinct and sustainable practices for raising the cattle. From a thorough analysis of the cattle’s genetic makeup to curating a specific natural diet to match, providing stress-free living conditions, and then ensuring specific aging, Klaw’s beef program is achieved through a near-scientific combination of marbling, texture, and taste – the ultimate beef trifecta. With specialty dry-aged cuts on display throughout the restaurant and the day’s specific inventory of cuts also highlighted and explained tableside, guests will find themselves in the unique position to choose their cuts first-hand from Klaw’s exclusive heritage menu featuring Florida Cattle Ranchers Beef and Florida Cracker beef – the latter of which nods to Florida’s long-standing cattle rearing history that began in 1521. Each cracker cattle is DNA certified back to the original herd that settled in Northern Florida over 500 years ago. In addition to the exclusive cuts, Klaw will also serve Brasstown Beef (a blend of Black Angus and Braunvieh cattle), premium Angus Beef, and authentic Kobe Beef – one of only three establishments certified in Miami to do so. BEVERAGE PROGRAM As Edgewater’s only rooftop bar, Klaw boasts a world-class beverage program that marries classic concepts and modern cocktail techniques and adds a generous pour of breathtaking bay views. Having partnered with the best Wine and Champagne Houses from all corners of the world, Klaw unabashedly boasts over 250 labels of carefully handselected Old & New World wines. The specialty cocktail menu at Klaw will seduce guests with the Mignonette Martini, crafted with Mignonette Brine; The Solstice, Klaw’s signature whiskey sour paired with Kirshwasser, a Cherry Eau de Vie, and blood orange to bring a fresh take to one of Americas favorite cocktails; and El Dorado, a tropical rum punch crafted with a blend of island rums, cherry, almond infused grappa and a whisper of ginger beer. The most discerning of jetsetters and boating enthusiasts can also indulge in Klaw’s specialty craft sips by boat with dockage available along the Bay. DESIGN Klaw was designed by Martin Brudnizki Design Studio, an internationally acclaimed interior architecture and design studio regarded as “one of the best restaurant and hotel designers of his generation.” The restaurant emulates a timeless design as an ode to the location’s historical roots. The fourth floor was designed to put Klaw’s grandeur culinary program on display with wine cellars and dry aging fridges filled with the best cuts Klaw has to offer. The extravagant dining space owes half its grandeur to the space’s high-scale 21’ tall ceilings and the equally expansive windows along its perimeter, while its remaining grandiosity comes courtesy of the contrast created between the rich tones, elegant chandeliers, spotlights hovering over tables, and sensual lighting that adorns the remainder of the space. A large, dark, wooden communal table that sits up to 20 commands most of the attention, again bringing the emphasis and conversation to what sets Klaw apart from the rest: not only the unmatched ingredients, but also the marvels Campbell conceives in the kitchen. The fifth-floor mezzanine houses the restaurant’s ample state-of-the-art kitchen before opening to the sixth floor, where the restaurant blooms effortlessly into a rooftop that blends seamlessly into the Bay. The mood shifts just as quickly – but ever so smoothly – from rich and resonant to light and airy. Muted walls and beveled mirrors help harness and multiply the rooftop’s natural sunlight while also giving the impression of 360° waterfront views throughout. On this level, guests will also experience Klaw’s bespoke aquatic tanks with the famed King Crabs on display. QUOTES “Miami’s dining scene has matured precipitously over the last few years, and we noticed there was a need and exigency for an elevated land and sea experience,” said Misha Zelman, the global restaurateur behind Goodman Steakhouse, Burger & Lobster, Beast London, and Zelman Meats. “Our team has worked eagerly to birth this culinary dream for Miami, from the hunt for the world’s finest flavors to every detail and emotion that will be evoked by the restaurant’s design and layout. We are eager for gastronomes to experience our passion and courage firsthand, and to finally unveil the world’s finest flavors for Miami.” “Klaw’s hallmark is the meticulous attention to detail: a philosophy that takes root at the very birth of the crab we catch in the depths of the Berents Sea in Norway to the very second we begin to rear our cattle in the valleys of Nebraska,” said Brand Executive Chef Phil Campbell. “That same dedication continues seamlessly throughout the placement of the last garnish on our plates. The local and global relationships we have cultivated with farmers and suppliers are instrumental as we seek to source top-quality sustainable ingredients, which will undoubtedly help us set a new standard in Miami’s culinary scene.” Klaw is located at 1737 N Bayshore Dr, Miami, FL 33132 and sits up to 244 guests at a time. The restaurant will open Wednesday through Sunday for dinner (from 6 p.m. – 12 a.m., on the fourth floor of the building) and for drinks and bites (from 5 p.m. – 1 a.m., on the sixth-floor rooftop). To make reservations visit, https://www.sevenrooms.com/reservations/klawrestaurant or for more information, please visit ww.klawrestaurant.com and follow along on Instagram at @klawrestaurant. MORE ON MIKHAIL ‘MISHA’ ZELMAN Misha found his passion for beef the first time he tried steak in America as a young child. Having spent his childhood in Moscow cutting and drying wood with his father, he had a passion for creating special charcoals and sourcing alternative cooking equipment to traditional gas broilers. Once he uncovered Spain’s Josper oven-grill, it offered the perfect solution, completing his formula for exceptional steak cookery. He went on to open his first steakhouse in Moscow in 2004 and, years later, had 20 restaurants to his name in Russia. Misha strongly believes that a restaurant can be successful by focusing on just one product served perfectly every day. He expanded to London in 2008 and opened Goodman Steakhouse with the goal to source the best cuts of meat from England, Scotland, Spain, the U.S., and Canada. Misha’s obsession with searching for unique produce from all over the world, including the King Crab, comes from working with passionate chefs. This has been the key to his global success in operating 25 restaurants in over four continents. By ML Staff. Images courtesy of Klaw

  • After 55 Years Aston Martin Begins Production of the Iconic DB5 Goldfinger Sports Car

Dubbed ‘the most famous car in the world’ and renowned as being among the most desirable and sought-after classic Aston Martin models, the DB5 has become a byword for timeless style and sports car desirability. Fewer than 900 saloon examples were built by the brand between 1963 and 1965, with by far the most famous of the original owners being the world’s best-known secret agent – James Bond – who first drove the car that is today inextricably linked with him in the 1964 film, Goldfinger. Now, 55 years after the last new DB5 rolled elegantly off the production line at Aston Martin’s then global manufacturing base in Newport Pagnell, Buckinghamshire, work is once again under way there on a strictly limited number of new DB5 models. Created in association with the producers of the James Bond films, EON Productions, and featuring a broad suite of working gadgets first seen on screen in the 1964 film, the Aston Martin DB5 Goldfinger Continuation cars are history in the making. The latest in Aston Martin’s phenomenally successful Continuation car programme which began in 2017 with the DB4 GT Continuation the new DB5 models represent among the most valuable new cars yet brought to market by the British luxury brand. Each DB5 Goldfinger continuation car is priced at 3.4M, plus taxes. Click to launch slideshow > The meticulous DB5 Goldfinger Continuation construction process – which takes around 4,500 hours per car – is being undertaken at Aston Martin’s globally renowned Heritage Division headquarters in Newport Pagnell, Buckinghamshire. Now the largest, best equipped and most knowledgeable Aston Martin restoration centre in the world, the invaluable and highly specialist skills nurtured at Aston Martin Works are perfectly suited to the brand’s celebrated Continuation projects. Each of the 25 new cars is being built to the highest possible quality using a blend of Sir David Brown-era old world craftsmanship, with the sympathetic application of modern engineering advancements and performance enhancements, alongside the integration of cutting-edge gadgets developed in association with Chris Corbould OBE, the special effects supervisor who has worked on more than a dozen Bond films. The list of Bond-inspired gadgets includes the following features, all familiar to viewers of the classic 1964 big screen hit. Exterior: Rear smoke screen delivery system Rear simulated oil slick delivery system Revolving number plates front and rear (triple plates) Simulated twin front machine guns Bullet resistant rear shield Battering rams front and rear Simulated tyre slasher Removable passenger seat roof panel (optional equipment) Interior: Simulated radar screen tracker map Telephone in driver’s door Gear knob actuator button Armrest and centre console-mounted switchgear Under-seat hidden weapons/storage tray Remote control for gadget activation All the new cars are meticulously detailed authentic reproductions of the DB5 seen on screen, with some sympathetic modifications and enhancements to ensure the highest levels of build quality and reliability. All the DB5 Goldfinger Continuation cars are being built to one exterior color specification – Silver Birch paint – just like the original. Click to launch slideshow > The cars feature original DB5 styled aluminium exterior body panels wrapped elegantly around an authentic DB5 mild steel chassis structure. Under the bonnet there’s a 4.0-litre naturally aspirated inline six-cylinder engine with a six-plug head, three SU carburettors and oil cooler, that’s capable of generating in the order of 290 bhp. This is mated to a five-speed ZF manual transmission in the rear-wheel drive DB5, which also features a mechanical limited slip differential. Servo-assisted hydraulic Girling-type steel disc brakes, rack and pinion steering – which does not feature assistance – and a suspension set-up comprising coil over spring and damper units with anti-roll bar at the front, and a live axle rear suspension with radius arms and Watt’s linkage, complete the dynamic package. Heritage Programme Manager Clive Wilson is one of those most closely involved in the process of bringing the new DB5 Goldfinger Continuation car into production. He said: “Seeing the first customer car move painstakingly through the intricate production process we have created really is quite a thrill. “Obviously we have not, as a business, made a new DB5 for more than 50 years, so to be involved in the building of these cars, which will go on to form part of Aston Martin’s history, is something I’m sure all of us will be telling our grandkids about!” Paul Spires, President of Aston Martin Works where the original DB5 was built and the new cars are also being created, said: “We are making, perhaps, some of the most desirable ‘toys’ ever built for 25 very lucky buyers worldwide. “Creating the DB5Goldfinger Continuation cars and working with EON Productions and special effects supervisor, Chris Corbould, is something truly unique and a real career highlight for everyone involved here at Aston Martin Works.” First deliveries of the DB5 Goldfinger Continuation to customers will commence in the second half of 2020. At Mareva 1939 the atmosphere is sophisticated, and the service is outstanding—the servers will be your guide on this journey. They are very knowledgeable, and if you’re not sure what to order, let the experts make a recommendation, you won’t be disappointed. The chef’s specialties include a variety of arroces, and if you thought paella would be only rice dish, you will be pleasantly surprised. The Black Paella, which comes with seared scallops and shrimp, might not look like the traditional paella (the rice gets its color from squid ink) but it certainly tastes delicious. Another arroz dish is the Seafood Rice, which is served with scallops, mussels, shrimp, and clams—a seafood masterpiece. There is also an option to add lobster. Like any good traditional Spanish restaurant, dinner is served family style—this way, everyone can try a little bit. There are four different categories of tapas, Los Classicos—which features Jamon Iberico—De La Huerta, a variety of delicious greens, De La Mar which features a Spanish Octopus served with potato cream, and Carne, under which you’ll find the signature Roasted Bone Marrow—an unexpected delicacy you will find yourself wanting more. The tapas are generously sized, and typically, after ordering a couple of them you’ll be satisfied. However, at Mareva 1939 you will also find a variety of main dishes. The Pricipales feature duck, rib eye, and branzino. So, whatever you are craving, they’ve got your palate covered. For dessert, the Caramelized Torrija Brioche is a delight. Served with coconut ice cream, this warm pastry pairs lovely with the whipped pink guava. It’s the perfect combination. And speaking of perfect pairs, you can’t go wrong with any of the specialty cocktails. The Childhood Memories takes inspiration from this dessert, and in fact uses many of the same ingredients. The Endless Passion is made with fresh passion fruit, it’s a great way to start any meal. Finally, the Melon or Sadia, which features mezcal, will enhance the flavors any dish. This is reflected by the House’s purchase of the SuperRare DAO's native token $RARE, marking Gucci’s entrance into the first DAO focused on curation in web3. For the launch of The Next 100 Years of Gucci in the Vault Art Space, Gucci (@gucci) and SuperRare (@SuperRare) will host three Twitter Spaces conversations, where artist, philosopher, curator, and writer Rowynn Dumont will speak to participating artists about the creating and collecting art today. These open conversations will also be recorded and available to listen to afterwards as episodes of the Gucci Podcast, which is accessible on all major podcast streaming platforms. The first conversation will take place June 23 at 6 pm CEST. MORE ON GUCCI Founded in Florence in 1921, Gucci is one of the world’s leading luxury fashion brands. As the House marks its 100th Anniversary under the Creative Direction of Alessandro Michele, with Marco Bizzarri as President and Chief Executive, Gucci moves forward into the coming decades with an ongoing commitment in redefining luxury, while celebrating the creativity, innovation and Italian craftsmanship at the core of its values. Gucci is part of the global luxury group Kering, which manages the development of a series of renowned Maisons in fashion, leather goods, jewelry and watches. MORE ON VAULT As Gucci’s experimental online space, Vault was created from the vision of Alessandro Michele in 2021, the House’s centennial year. Free-dimensional and forever in flux, it is a place where Gucci’s past, present, and future coexist through the power of imagination. Its name evokes an air of magic, denoting a pursuit of precious wonders that go beyond the confines of time, and its virtual shelves host a careful curation of rare vintage Gucci pieces alongside capsule collections, limited-edition styles, and other items from a selection of noteworthy brands, all dear to the Creative Director. Vault also acts as an emissary of Gucci’s presence within the metaverse, evolving by creating with the web3based community. NFT collectibles and virtual experiences join the platform’s offering, as Vault expands in all directions to push beyond the traditional and the purely transactional. MORE ON SUPERRARE Founded in 2018, SuperRare is a pioneering, curated marketplace for premium digital art, built on the Ethereum blockchain. From the beginning, SuperRare has been empowering artists to take control of their work and in new ways to prosper – with more than $300M worth of NFT artworks bought and sold on the platform to date and more than $150M going directly to artists. Conceived around the concept of single edition artworks, SuperRare has opened the art market to artists and collectors around the world. And with the introduction of the $RARE curation token, SuperRare has continued to evolve into a community-led network of galleries with their own curatorial vision. By ML Staff.
