  • Figueredo & Duff Surge Forward at the 107th Amateur Golf Championship

Day two of the 107th Amateur Championship brought blue skies and sweltering heat at both sites. The tournament has been cut to 70 and ties going into the weekend, making the field a total of 80 players. What Happened? On the second day the leaderboard saw a dynamic shuffle as some players surged ahead while others maintained their grip at the top. Christian Figueredo and Jason Duff share the lead at -9 through 36 holes. Duff moved up four spots on the leaderboard finishing 5-under on the day, carding six birdies and one bogey. Figueredo continued to shine on day two with a scorecard consisting of five birdies and two bogies. He navigated the course scoring a 33 on the front nine and a steady 36 on the back, concluding his day at 3-under. Yesterday's sole leader, Clipper Salmon, now finds himself in a three-way deadlock after a somewhat challenging round that left him one stroke above par. Joining him are Brett Schell and former champion Jason Huizinga, both sitting tied for third place. Schell staged an impressive comeback, surging 25 spots up the leaderboard, fueled by steady performances on both the front and back nine, each marked by a score of 33. On the other hand, Huizinga faced early adversity with a double bogey on his second hole and consecutive bogeys on holes seventeen and eighteen. His bogeys were complemented by four birdies, ensuring he remained firmly in contention. Three players share the T-6 spot, two of which moved 22 spots up the leaderboard, Cooper Smith and Matthew Hewitt. Smith, a Tampa native and University of South Florida student  started his day off strong with an eagle on the first hole. What’s Next? The field is cut to the low 70 and ties after 36 holes. The final 36 holes will be played at Quail Valley Golf Club. If necessary, there will be a hole-by-hole "sudden death" play-off for the Championship. Notable Christian Figueredo and Jason Duff share the lead at -9. Brett Schell and Chase Haygood held the low score of the day at Quail Valley (66). 80 total players made the cut into the weekend. Bent Pine allowed 11 players to break 70 while Quail Valley allowed 14 players to break 70. Quotable “I pretty much played the same game, kept the ball in play, made putts, pretty much the same, just carried it over from yesterday.” – Christian Figueredo on his round today versus yesterday. “I played solid yesterday, kind of lost a little bit on the back nine, so after the round yesterday we went and tightened it up on the range and I struck it great today.” – Cooper Smith on if he made any adjustments from yesterday. “I took full advantage of the par 5’s. I am able to get to every par 5 with a long or mid-iron, which helps and then I also have just tried to stay patient. I won’t change a lot going into the weekend. I played well yesterday and today and just going to keep it going.” Brett Schell on playing Quail Valley “I love both courses. I am just going to keep doing what I have been doing and playing really solid golf and not get too ahead of myself. Quail Valley is playing really firm and I am not the longest player in the field so I try to use the firmness to my advantage.” Co-leader Jason Duff By ML Staff. Content/Image courtesy of FSGA

  • Binkley Family Volunteers Together Sharing Love of Tennis with All

The Binkley family, composed of parents, Brandon and Christie, and their two daughters, Abby and Piper, showcased the spirit of community and generosity through their collective volunteering efforts at the 2024 Special Olympics. Their story is one of dedication, love for tennis, and a profound commitment to giving back. The Binkley family’s tennis journey began five years ago, igniting a passion that has only grown stronger with time. “Playing tennis has been something great that we can do to come together,” Brandon said. “I love what it teaches my girls about independence, self-belief, and problem-solving.” This is echoed throughout their experiences, reflecting on how tennis has become a cornerstone of their family’s life and values. “We moved to Orlando to be here and to play tennis. The confidence they get from tennis bleeds over into other areas,” Brandon said. This move allowed for better training and embedded the family deeper into the tennis community. 2024 marked the Binkley family’s first year volunteering at the Special Olympics. Despite being newcomers to this event, their enthusiasm and dedication were palpable. “It’s great to see the excitement from all the athletes here,” he said. “They’ve worked so hard to get here, and seeing the joy on their faces is an absolute joy to be around.” The experience has been fulfilling for the entire family, reinforcing the importance of giving back. For the Binkley’s, volunteering is not just about giving, it’s also about learning and growing. “There’s a lot I can learn from all the athletes, just their resiliency and pure heart. If my wife, my girls, and I can be more like them, this is a huge success,” Brandon said. Volunteering together has also strengthened their family’s bonds. “I can’t wait to go home and talk about it over dinner and get the girls’ perspectives,” he said. “There’s nothing but upside from being able to volunteer and help.” These shared experiences have created lasting memories and deepened their familial connections. Tennis has also taught their family valuable life lessons that they carry with them everywhere they go. “We’ve dealt with injuries and had to fight and overcome them,” Brandon said. “You learn to battle mentally, and it’s not just about the opponent but the battle within.” The sport has instilled resilience and perseverance in both of his daughters, which they use beyond the tennis courts. As Piper remains active in the competitive junior tennis community, the family is grateful for everything the state has to offer to prepare her for the future. “USTA Florida has always done a really good job with the competition and level of tournaments here,” Brandon said. “The bar is really high here.” Looking to the future, Brandon envisions the generational impact of tennis on his family. “I look forward to when my kids have kids and being able to introduce them to tennis. The character development alone is priceless,” he said. As they balance the playing career of Piper and volunteering, Brandon is thrilled that his family can come together and grow while remaining involved with tennis. “It’s been an absolute pleasure to volunteer. We sure hope that we are asked to do this again next year.” ML Staff. Content/Image courtesy of Jaret Kappelman, Marketing & Communications Coordinator for USTA Florida

  • A New Model & New Dial Colors in The Polaris Collection

Jaeger-LeCoultre continues to enrich the Polaris collection in 2024. New to Polaris, the Maison’s signature Geographic travel time complication is reinterpreted for this elegant, sporty collection, while two existing models – Polaris Date and Polaris Perpetual Calendar – are offered with new dial colours. Key Facts: Introducing the Polaris Geographic – a signature Jaeger-LeCoultre complication that reinterprets travel time The Polaris Date features a gradient dial in a newly created ocean grey lacquer The Polaris Perpetual Calendar is presented in pink gold with a new gradient green lacquer dial Polaris: Jaeger-LeCoultre’s spirit of elegance interpreted in contemporary sporting style When Jaeger-LeCoultre revived the historic Polaris name in 2018, it redefined the modern sporty-elegant watch with an entirely new line of timepieces conceived for everyday adventures. Deftly balancing the practical functions and robust capabilities of a sports watch with Jaeger-LeCoultre’s distinctively elegant and timeless aesthetic, the Polaris collection pays direct homage to the Maison’s eponymous diving watches of the 1960s. With their high-performing calibres and distinctive style, the watches of the Polaris collection capture the sporting spirit of their predecessors, reinterpreting their vintage appeal in elegant and confidently contemporary style to create highly versatile, modern classics. The Polaris collection’s strong design codes are anchored in cases distinguished by off-centred crowns, taut lines, glass-box crystals, narrow bezels and a dynamic mix of brushed and polished surfaces. The distinctive dial architecture is complemented by skeletonised hands, assertively designed Arabic numerals and elongated trapezoid indexes. All elements are coated in SuperLuminova for optimum legibility in low light conditions. Complex in construction, the Polaris dial is enhanced by gradient colour and the use of different decorative finishes – opaline, graining, sunray-brushing and snailing, according to the model – beneath a coating of rich and shiny lacquer. The colour is graduated from light to dark, adding great visual depth and dynamism to the dials. Lacquering is a lengthy and exacting process, with each layer of coating being manually applied. It begins with the application of up to four layers of colour, then one or two layers of black, to create the gradient. The challenge lies in perfectly controlling both the shade and the gradient, so that the dial sections match perfectly. This is followed by 30 coats of translucent lacquer, to add depth and richness. The process is completed by polishing the components to a perfect finish. Introducing the Polaris Geographic – a signature complication that reinvents travel time Continuing the tradition of adding useful auxiliary functions to the Polaris collection, Jaeger-LeCoultre introduces the Polaris Geographic. La Grande Maison’s unique interpretation of the travel watch, the Geographic has become a signature complication of the Manufacture. Rather than indicating only the hour of a second time zone, the Geographic complication also provides a 24-hour Night and Day indicator and, in an aperture at the bottom of the dial, displays the name of a city relating to each of the 24 major time zones, with those that observe daylight savings clearly marked. This gives travellers the option of setting the second time according to location (by turning the crown at 10 o’clock), rather than needing to calculate the time difference; when a city is chosen, the corresponding time is automatically displayed. Thanks to a stop-seconds feature, this second time zone is accurate to the hour, minute and second. The lacquer dial features a new colour – ocean-grey.  Evocative with an air of mystery, calling to mind the colour of the sea on a cloudy day, it is applied in a double gradient finish that adds visual depth and dynamism, and is coated with 35 layers of lacquer. The displays are arranged in a pleasingly asymmetric layout, with the second time zone in a sub-dial at 6 o’clock and the power reserve indicator in the upper left sector of the dial. Orange accents draw the eye to key information points, contrasting with the ocean-grey and adding a lively touch to the overall composition. The sapphire crystal case-back reveals the finely finished automatic movement, Calibre 939. A quintessential example of Jaeger-LeCoultre’s approach to watchmaking, which combines mechanical elegance with high performance, it offers a power reserve of 70 hours. Like all of the Maison’s calibres, the movement was designed, produced, finished and assembled within its own Manufacture in Switzerland’s Vallée de Joux. Underlining the versatility of this confident and refined expression of a highly useful complication, the new Polaris Geographic is presented with an interchangeable folding buckle and a pair of interchangeable straps – textured black rubber and blue-grey canvas – that enable a change in style and attitude in a matter of moments. New colors add fresh allure to distinctive lacquered dials The Polaris collection is further enriched as two models are offered with new dial colours – created with the Polaris collection specifically in mind. The Polaris Date is presented with a gradient ocean-grey dial that elevates the confident modernity of its design to a new level and the Polaris Perpetual Calendar is offered in pink gold with an elegant and visually striking gradient green dial that perfectly complements the richness and warmth of the case metal. Both dials feature the Polaris signatures of three different surface textures, and double-gradient colour finished with 35 layers of lacquer to create visual richness and depth. Subtle orange highlights add a note of sporty dynamism. Introduced in 2018, the year that the contemporary Polaris collection was launched, the Polaris Date is the epitome of sporty elegance, its link to the design of the Maison’s classic 1960s diving watches very evident in the uncomplicated modernity of the dial, as well as the signature double crown. One crown is used for adjusting the time, the other for rotating the inner bezel. Visible through the sapphire case-back, the new-generation automatic Calibre 899, entirely created in-house, offers a 70-hour power reserve – highly practical for today’s active lifestyles. The Polaris Date is presented on a textured rubber strap that is easily interchangeable with a metal bracelet of other straps from the Polaris range. The 42mm steel case is water-resistant to 20 bar. The Polaris Perpetual Calendar, introduced to the collection in 2022, features one of horology’s most complex, useful and greatly prized complications. A miniature mechanical computer, the perpetual calendar always shows the correct date, automatically adjusting for the different duration of months and even for leap years. It needs no manual correction until 2100, and, after that, only on centenaries that are not also leap years. The automatic Jaeger-LeCoultre Calibre 868, offering a power reserve of 70 hours, was designed, produced and assembled within the Manufacture Jaeger-LeCoultre. With an emphasis on symmetry and legibility, three slightly recessed sub-dials display the date, day and month, balanced by a moon-phase display at 6 o’clock, which features the age of the moon as well as its phases in both Hemispheres – a pleasing reminder that calendars had their origins in astronomical phenomena. The 42mm pink gold case features an interchangeable strap system enabling rapid changes between the two straps presented with the Polaris Perpetual Calendar – black alligator for a more dressy mood and textured dark green rubber for a more sporty style. The new additions to the Polaris line amplify the relaxed and contemporary elegance of the collection, while underlining its sporty and purposeful character, anchoring it ever more strongly as a modern classic perfectly suited to life’s everyday adventures. • The Benefits of Acupuncture: A Holistic Approach to Health and Well-Being

Acupuncture, an ancient practice rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), has gained significant popularity in recent years as a holistic treatment for various health concerns. Involving the insertion of fine needles into specific points on the body, acupuncture aims to restore balance and promote healing. While it may seem unconventional to some, the benefits of acupuncture are well-documented, making it an appealing option for those seeking alternative therapies. Image by Africa Studio / Adobestock Pain Relief One of the most recognized benefits of acupuncture is its effectiveness in alleviating pain. Numerous studies have shown that acupuncture can significantly reduce chronic pain conditions such as back pain, arthritis, migraines, and fibromyalgia. The treatment stimulates the release of endorphins—natural painkillers produced by the body—promoting a sense of well-being and reducing discomfort. Patients often report experiencing immediate relief following a session, making it an attractive option for those looking to manage pain without relying solely on medication. Stress Reduction and Mental Health In today's fast-paced world, stress has become a common issue that affects both physical and mental health. Acupuncture has been shown to reduce stress levels and promote relaxation by regulating the body’s stress response. By targeting specific acupuncture points, the treatment can help to balance the nervous system, leading to a decrease in anxiety and an improvement in overall mood. Many individuals find that regular acupuncture sessions not only help manage stress but also enhance their emotional resilience. Improved Sleep Quality For those struggling with insomnia or other sleep disorders, acupuncture can offer a natural solution. The treatment helps regulate sleep patterns by promoting relaxation and reducing anxiety. Studies have indicated that acupuncture can increase the duration and quality of sleep, allowing individuals to wake up feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. By addressing the underlying issues that contribute to sleep disturbances, such as stress or chronic pain, acupuncture can be an effective addition to a holistic approach to better sleep. Enhanced Immune Function Another notable benefit of acupuncture is its potential to boost the immune system. Research suggests that acupuncture can enhance immune response by promoting the production of white blood cells and increasing the body’s overall resistance to illness. Regular acupuncture treatments may help prevent common ailments such as colds and flu, as well as support recovery from more serious health issues. By promoting a balanced immune system, acupuncture encourages the body’s natural ability to heal itself. Image by tonefotografia / Adobestock Digestive Health Acupuncture has also been shown to support digestive health, making it a valuable option for individuals dealing with gastrointestinal issues such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), bloating, or indigestion. By targeting specific acupuncture points related to digestion, the treatment can help regulate gut function, reduce inflammation, and alleviate discomfort. Many patients report improved digestion and a decrease in symptoms after incorporating acupuncture into their health regimen. Complementary Treatment for Chronic Conditions Acupuncture is increasingly being recognized as a complementary treatment for chronic conditions such as arthritis, cancer, and autoimmune disorders. While it should not replace conventional medical treatment, acupuncture can serve as a supportive therapy, helping to manage symptoms and improve overall quality of life. By addressing pain, reducing stress, and promoting relaxation, acupuncture can enhance the effectiveness of other treatments and empower patients on their healing journeys. Conclusion Acupuncture is a holistic therapy with a wide array of benefits that can enhance overall health and well-being. From pain relief and stress reduction to improved sleep quality and immune function, acupuncture offers a natural alternative to conventional treatments. As with any therapy, it’s essential to consult with a qualified practitioner to discuss individual health concerns and develop a personalized treatment plan. Whether you’re seeking to manage a specific condition or simply looking to improve your overall wellness, acupuncture may be a valuable addition to your health regimen, helping you achieve balance and harmony in your life. • Trailblazing Change: Justice and Nia Faith's Journey with Révolutionnaire

Justice and Nia Faith, the dynamic sister duo and co-founders of the globally empowering movement Révolutionnaire, are making significant strides in activism and entrepreneurship. Recognized on Forbes 30 Under 30 for their groundbreaking work in Révolutionnaire, they have expanded their impact through various initiatives, from amplifying Gen Z voices to addressing climate change. Their collaborations with prominent organizations and global leaders underscore their commitment to driving positive change. Today, they join us to share their journey, insights, and future aspirations. ML: Justice and Nia, it's such an honor to have you with us. Your impressive work with Révolutionnaire and numerous impactful initiatives has garnered widespread recognition. To start, can you tell us a bit about your backgrounds and what initially sparked your passion for activism and entrepreneurship? Nia: Growing up as a Black ballerina, I would go shopping with my friends who would be able to purchase their dancewear and go straight to class whereas I would have to go home and dye everything because there was nothing available for dancers of color. At 12 years old, I met Misty Copeland and she spoke about how she also had to dye her dancewear! Misty’s words inspired me to make my dream of a more inclusive dance world a reality. At 17, I launched The Rév Shop by Révolutionnaire as the country’s first inclusive dancewear company. The response from dancers of color who were excited by no longer having to dye their apparel gave me the motivation to consider how representation and empowerment could help other young people start their own revolutions and make a difference across causes. Justice: After seeing how Nia sparked a revolution in the dance world, I wanted all young people with a dream to be able to start their own revolutions and make a difference. We grew up in a very activist family and were always encouraged to not only speak out on the issues we care about, but also take action. This motivated me to quit my corporate job at McKinsey and Company in the middle of the pandemic to grow Révolutionnaire into a movement, empowering youth with the tools needed to make an impact. I want to create a future where every young person is equipped to make their communities and our world better. Nia & Misty Copeland ML: You both have been recognized on Forbes 30 Under 30 for your work with Révolutionnaire. What inspired you to start this journey, and how has your mission evolved since the inception of the dancewear line? J & N: We are honored to be recognized as Forbes 30 Under 30 Listers. Since launching a line of inclusive dancewear during Nia’s freshman year at Howard, we’ve expanded to offer apparel and accessories for everyone to celebrate the skin they’re in. From clothing collaborations with Roots Canada, to inclusive nail polish with L'Oréal’s Essie, and an eyewear collab this Fall, we are proud to create products that make people feel seen, recognized, and celebrated. When you look and feel your best, you’re empowered to make your voice heard and take action. Starting a revolution in the dance world, sparked us to consider how other young people might be empowered to start their own revolutions. From there we grew Révolutionnaire into a broader movement that leverages content, commerce, and community to equip young people to take action in their local communities and beyond. It is so powerful to be part of a generation that is unwavering in our commitment to progress and working every day to secure a more equitable and sustainable future for all. Révolutionnaire x Deborah Cox day of service ML: Your collaboration with Roots on the “Meet a Revolutionary” video series has brought Gen Z changemakers into the spotlight. Can you share a particularly impactful story or individual that stood out to you during this project? J & N: Through our Meet a Revolutionary series in collaboration with Roots, we interviewed six changemakers and community leaders from across the country about how they are making a difference and how others can do the same. These inspiring young people are on the frontlines of change. Take, for instance, Elijah who embarked on a journey to the Arctic where he conducted studies on contamination levels and their impacts on Indigenous communities. His story is a powerful reminder of how deeply personal and scientifically rigorous activism can be, and how crucial it is to intertwine our efforts with those directly affected by environmental issues. Meet a Revolutionary ML: As voices of Gen Z, how do you see your generation uniquely contributing to current events and societal changes compared to previous generations? J & N: Gen Z is the epitome of courage and innovation, with many of us tackling urgent global challenges. Our approach reflects resilience, collaboration, and the transformative power of collective action. We act with an unwavering sense of urgency because we know that our futures are at stake and we cannot afford to sit on the sidelines amid simultaneous crises. Our activism transcends our daily actions. We also hold a non-negotiable expectation: the brands we support, the banks where we save, and the companies we interact with must all align unequivocally with our values of sustainability and equity. It’s not enough to aim for short-term gains; we must look to long-term prosperity, the kind that ensures food, clean water, shelter, and opportunity for all. As young people, we are ready to hold corporations and government leaders accountable; our commitment extends beyond advocacy to active fiscal and social sanctions against those who fail to demonstrate their commitment to our collective future. Essie media lunch ML: Civic engagement is a recurring theme in your work. What advice would you give to young people who want to get involved but don't know where to start, and why is their participation so crucial? Justice: As I shared at the recent UN Youth Forum, gatherings like that are powerful, but true change happens on the ground, back home in our communities. For young people who feel that spark of wanting to be involved but aren't sure how, here's the key: channel that energy into action. Leverage every platform at your disposal, from voting to social media to town halls, to make your voices heard. Don't wait for opportunities to come knocking. Organize local campaigns that tackle real issues in your communities, issues that align with the future we all want – a future built on sustainability and equity. You can access step-by-step action guides to bring these campaigns to life on our RévCommunity Platform. This isn't just about the future; it's about the present. We, the youth, are demanding action in every corner of the world. Change can't wait, and it requires active participation from each of us. Let's hold our leaders accountable, not just because we can, but because we must, for our future, for our planet, and for generations to come. ML: Climate Conversations, which you produced and hosted in partnership with United Nations Climate Change, addresses environmental issues and sustainability. What were some key takeaways from your discussions with youth activists and global leaders like Simon Stiell? J & N: Young activists are architects of change: As young activists, our voices are critical in this fight for our futures, but we are not only calling attention to these issues, we are actively working to tackle them head on. Whether it’s leaders like Xiye Bastida whose family’s legacy of environmental advocacy and first-hand experience with climate disasters motivates her to encourage people globally to center climate action, or Elizabeth Wathuti a Kenyan climate activist who has planted over 30,000 tree seedlings in Kenya, youth activists are taking matters into our own hands recognizing that the time to wait for our elders to step up has run out. Intergenerational teamwork is key: A recurring theme from our conversation with Executive Secretary Simon Stiell was the magic that comes from cross-generation exchanges. As youth, we bring the energy, creativity, and solution-oriented approach that, when infused with the lived experience and expertise of older generations, can accelerate action and lasting impact. Think globally, act locally: The climate crisis is global, but solutions often lie at the local level. Our conversation with the Executive Secretary emphasized the importance of young people continuing to engage national and regional leaders and increase the political will for tackling a more just and sustainable future. Révolutionnaire x UN Climate Change ML: As it is clear that climate change is a significant focus for both of you, can you share your thoughts on how Gen Z can lead the charge in climate activism and what specific actions individuals can take to make a meaningful impact? Change starts with education and extends to action. We created the RévCommunity with articles and action items regarding environmentalism, racial equity, housing security, food security, and more by young activists for young activists to give you the information you need to learn about these causes in an accessible way and a wide range of action items for you to get involved and make a difference today. You can go to revolutionnaire.co to learn more and follow @revolutionnaire.co and @thejusticefaith and @niafaith on Instagram to stay up-to-date. ML: As we wrap up, can you tell us some about your future plans and aspirations for Révolutionnaire and your ongoing advocacy work? How do you envision continuing to drive change and inspire the next generation of activists and entrepreneurs? J & N: Each day, we have conversations with the next generation of inspiring leaders, whether it's an aerospace engineer in Tokyo wanting to make space travel more inclusive or a young woman in India building technology to make clean water globally accessible. We are inspired by our peers to make the difference we dream of become a reality. In the future, we will continue to expand our Révolutionnaire community service days, gathering communities to take action together, and working alongside our RévCommunity Journalists to inform our audience about what is going on in the world and how they can help. We also look forward to continuing our work alongside brands and organizations to leverage content, products, and experiences that our peers engage with to promote a message of positive social change. This allows for a homogenous standard operating procedure, uniform canopy design, and a production resulting in greater yield of high-quality product. “We are looking forward to expanding our cultivation operations to further serve the patients and consumers of Ohio,” said Fadi Boumitri, CEO of Ascension. “We engaged with DAG to help ensure our facility can produce the highest quality flower in Ohio from the moment it comes online. DAG has a reputation for getting cannabis facilities operational and performing at a high level, and that is exactly what we are expecting here.” DAG is currently leading the preconstruction phase of the project handling design documentation, early procurement, and establishing final cost components. DAG has utilized the services of Core Design Group for the preparation of fully detailed construction drawings. Construction is commencing June 2024 with an estimated completion in March 2025. “It is a privilege to work with Ascension to help expand its indoor Cannabis cultivation facility in Ohio delivering integrated planning, design, and construction services,” said DAG CEO Mark Gemignani. “We are proud to collaborate with companies such as Ascension that are focused on providing a consistent, premium-level quality product.” By ML Staff.
