- How People in Miami Are Finding Connection Beyond Social Media
In Miami, many residents are reassessing how they interact online as constant social media use begins to feel repetitive and detached from real life. Despite the city’s lively social scene, some users report that passive scrolling and curated feeds do not translate into meaningful relationships. Instead of relying only on apps and platforms, people are seeking more active, real-time exchanges that prioritize presence and spontaneity. Phone-based and other voice-focused options are being used as alternatives to image-driven networks, giving residents a way to talk and listen without the pressure of maintaining an online image. Supporters of these approaches say that hearing another person’s voice, including tone and pauses, helps conversations feel more immediate and personal. Some participants also choose anonymous chats, which they find can reduce social expectations and make it easier to speak openly in a city where appearances often play a visible role. As online life becomes more complex, simpler forms of communication are gaining renewed attention among Miami residents. Whether through unplanned in-person encounters or alternative voice-based spaces, many are redefining connection as fewer carefully crafted posts and more straightforward conversations that feel immediate and human. - Vicky Charles Translates Private Club Hospitality to Villa Miami
At Villa Miami, AD100 designer Vicky Charles of Charles & Co leads the interiors across the entire tower, shaping a unified residential vision from the lobby to the penthouse. Known for her client roster that includes Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis, Emma Stone, Harry Styles, and David and Victoria Beckham, Charles brings decades of experience designing private homes and members’ clubs into her first Miami condominium project. Developed by Terra and One Thousand Group in collaboration with Major Food Group, Villa is anchored by a hospitality-driven concept that unfolds vertically through the building. At its core is the Copper Club, a layered amenity experience that begins with a waterfront restaurant and terrace overlooking Biscayne Bay and extends into residents-only levels with private dining rooms, lounges, a fitness center, and a dedicated wellness floor. “Hospitality’s in my blood. Working with other great people in the industry tempted me back into this world, and what continues to inspire me is how much of it comes down to design,” said Vicky Charles, interior designer for the tower. “For the Copper Club, we wanted to explore the materials of old Europe in a contemporary setting, focusing on a sense of grandeur, but paired with soft furniture and textiles to ensure a relaxed residential feel.” The building also includes a rooftop helipad and heli lounge, along with an off-site branded beach club, extending the experience beyond the tower. In the residences, Charles introduces a distinctly European sensibility to Miami’s luxury market, moving away from a conventional palette and toward a warmer, more layered approach. Each full-floor estate-style residence is oriented toward unobstructed views of Biscayne Bay. “Every aspect of this project is deeply personal to us,” said Charles. “We approached every detail through the lens of luxury, incorporating distinctive marbles, custom patterns, and highly curated amenity offerings.” Charles also designed the tower’s $55 million crown jewel triplex penthouse. “This residence embodies the pinnacle of luxury entertainment. It’s a defining feature that sets this space apart as truly one-of-a-kind.” At the center of each home, kitchens designed in collaboration with Major Food Group’s Mario Carbone function as the anchor of daily life, conceived as chef-driven spaces that balance performance and design. Above, the penthouse spans approximately 15,000 square feet across three levels, with expansive terraces, wellness spaces, dual kitchens, sculptural circulation, and private staff quarters, positioning it as one of the most ambitious residential offerings in Miami. - Where Luxury Meets Inclusivity: Inside Miami’s Thriving LGBTQ+ Business and Hospitality Scene
In a destination defined by its effortless glamour, cultural richness, and ever-evolving skyline, Miami has long held its place as a global beacon for luxury travel. Yet beyond the pristine beaches and design-forward hotels lies something more enduring: a deep commitment to inclusivity that is helping shape the next era of elevated travel. At the center of this movement is the Miami-Dade LGBTQ+ & Allied Chamber of Commerce (MDGLCC) (www.mdglcc.com) —an organization quietly but powerfully redefining what it means to create a truly welcoming destination for locals and visitors. With a mission to foster a thriving and unified business community, the MDGLCC represents a network of hundreds of businesses and billions in purchasing power, reinforcing the economic importance of LGBTQ+ inclusion across the region. From small businesses to major hospitality brands, the organization provides resources, networking opportunities, and advocacy that empower its members to grow and succeed. At the center of its impact is a deep understanding that business growth and community connection go hand in hand. Through year-round programming, partnerships, and signature events, the Chamber has created a platform where professionals, entrepreneurs, and cultural leaders can collaborate, connect, and contribute to a more inclusive economy. “Our work is about creating opportunity at every level—whether that’s helping a small business connect with new clients or ensuring that Miami-Dade continues to attract global travelers who value inclusivity,” said Marty Davis, Board Chair, MDGLCC. “We are proudly building and supporting a business community that reflects the inclusivity and dynamism of this region.” This philosophy is evident MDGLCC’s Pink Flamingo Hospitality Certification Program, an initiative that is setting a new benchmark for inclusive travel. Designed to equip hospitality professionals with the tools to better serve LGBTQ+ travelers, the program goes beyond traditional service training—offering a nuanced approach to creating environments where guests feel both welcomed, understood and celebrated. Select properties across Miami-Dade have embraced the certification as part of their broader commitment to elevated guest experiences including Andaz Miami Beach and Carillon Miami Wellness Resort. These certified properties are an example of where design, wellness, and service intersect with a genuine dedication to inclusivity. At these hotels, luxury is not just defined by aesthetics or amenities, but by the ability to create spaces that feel personal, intentional, and affirming. “The Pink Flamingo Hospitality Certification Program goes beyond raining—it’s about setting a standard for what hospitality should look like in a global destination like Miami,” said Lisette Garcia, Executive Director, MDGLCC. “This is only one example of how our team is continuously working to enhance experiences and to support LGBTQ+ friendly businesses. Our shared goal is to increase revenue and be advocates for small business owners, larger companies and organizations that contribute to the growing economy driven by the LGBTQ+ community.” For those seeking to explore Miami through a more curated lens, the MDGLCC supports the LGBTQ+ Visitor Center in Miami Beach, a vital hub for both residents and visitors seeking information, resources, and connection. The center serves as a gateway to LGBTQ+ events, businesses, and cultural experiences, reinforcing the region’s reputation as a destination where everyone belongs. This sense of connection is increasingly important, as visitors from near and far are less interested in surface-level itineraries and more drawn to destinations that offer meaning, narrative, and a sense of place. Through its work, the MDGLCC helps ensure that Miami delivers on all three. While community experiences remain a key focus, the MDGLCC’s impact is equally profound behind the scenes. By supporting a network of entrepreneurs, executives, and creatives, it is helping to shape a business ecosystem that values both innovation and inclusivity. From real estate and finance to hospitality and the arts, this cross-industry collaboration is redefining what success looks like in a modern, global city. As the MDGLCC looks to the future, the National LGBTQ+ and Allied Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC) will be launching its Allied SME Certification, a new initiative designed to recognize and elevate small and medium sized allied businesses that are committed to inclusive economic growth and meaningful engagement with the LGBTQ+ and allied business community. As part of the initial rollout, MDGLCC has been selected as a pilot affiliate. MDGLCC’s selection reflects its strong track record of engagement across the NGLCC network, consistent leadership in advancing opportunities for its members, and its ability to deliver high impact programming and results at the local level. Its deep and active allied business community makes it an ideal partner to help lead this next phase of certification evolution. Beginning in June, certification will be available to eligible MDGLCC allied member businesses, providing them with a nationally recognized credential that signals their commitment to inclusive business practices and connection to NGLCC’s broader network.
