Derby Week at Churchill Downs is underway in Louisville, with local celebrations, high-profile Longines Kentucky Oaks contenders, and notable Kentucky Derby pedigree angles drawing attention ahead of the 2026 Run for the Roses.

Louisville’s role in the festivities was highlighted during 502’sDay at Churchill Downs, where live racing, collaborative art, and community-focused programming emphasized the city’s identity and local pride during Derby Week.

In the Longines Kentucky Oaks, early favorite Zany, a daughter of 2015 Triple Crown champion American Pharoah, has the chance to place her sire in an exclusive group of stallions with an Oaks winner. Bella Ballerina, out of mare Pretty City Dancer, could also secure a rare distinction by becoming her dam’s second Oaks winner.

The Kentucky Derby, presented by Woodford Reserve, features several prominent breeding storylines as well. Leading sire Into Mischief is seeking a record-breaking fourth Kentucky Derby (G1) winner, Nyquist could join the list of Derby winners to sire a Derby winner, and Essential Quality has an opportunity to tie the mark as the youngest stallion to produce a Derby victor.
