The Modelo family of beers are exclusively brewed in Mexico and imported and marketed for the U.S. by Constellations Brands. As an artist, Shawn McCann is one who loves to explore the relationship of art, space, and interaction, and has grown into a multi-media, multi-disciplinary artist whose work explores color, texture, form, and content. This approach has led to the many areas in which Shawn’s work has encompassed including; 2D and 3D street painting, murals, fine art, installation art, temporary and permanent art and commercial illustration. From the installation of a temporary 4000 square foot mural at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, to a mural at IIT Bombay in Mumbai, India, each work of art is produced with a fresh set of ideas, parameters, and ways in which to enliven the space within its grasp. His work has won numerous awards and is held in private and public collections, and has also been featured twice at the LA Times Festival of Books as a featured illustrator. - Psychedelic Panel Series: Indigenous Community
On Tuesday, June 21 at 7 p.m., Nucleus will present its monthly Psychedelic Series at Soho Beach House Miami. Moderated by psychedelics expert Dustin Robinson, Esq. CPA, this month’s panel will focus on the important history of psychedelics in indigenous communities and the role they will play in its future in mental health. Panelists include Tony Jusino, Brad Andres Calderon, and Nina Valencia. The Psychedelic Series features experts in the psychedelics space including CEOs, doctors, lawyers and celebrities. The panel has expanded to locations throughout the country including New York, Chicago and California with plans this summer in the UK. Past panelists include NBA champion Lamar Odom, Stanley Cup champion and Wesana CEO Daniel Carcillo, Psilera Bioscience CEO Chris Witowski, PhD, Silo Wellness CEO Douglas K. Gordon, and others. Robinson is Founding Partner of Mr. Cannabis Law – a full service law firm focused on the cannabis and psychedelic industries; Co-Founder of Mr. Psychedelic Law – a non-profit focused on psychedelic legal reform; Managing Principal of Iter Investments – a venture capital firm deploying capital across the psychedelic ecosystem; and Co-Founder of Nucleus – a platform with various tools to help guide individuals on their mental health journey. Jusino is an independent researcher in the field of social sciences and a medicine facilitator of sacred plant medicines. His journey with plant medicines began over 10 years ago. For the past four years, he has been working with sacred medicines on his own and has opened the Celestial Alliance Native American Church. He specializes in Bufo, Kambo, Changa, Yopo and Psilocybin homegrown mushrooms. During the years he has developed his own style and techniques for hosting and running psychedelic medicine ceremonies, where he combines traditional native American ceremonies accompanied by music, song and vibration to induce higher states of consciousness. Recently, he has dedicated himself increasingly to spiritual research and expanding into detoxing and recovery helping individuals overcome psychological and mental health trauma or just looking for a new spiritual path in their life. Calderon is a musician, artist, Yagesero and ambassador for Indigenous Communities in Southern Colombia. Calderon was born on the Caribbean coast of Colombia and moved to the United States in 2005. In 2010, he was diagnosed with cancer, which led him to immerse himself deep into health, nutrition, and self-healing modalities. In 2017, he fully cured himself of cancer with the help of traditional indigenous medicines. Calderon’s interest in plant medicine only began to grow, which drew him back to Colombia to learn more about the traditional ways these communities have been using and preserving this knowledge for millenniums. In 2019, he journeyed to Putumayo, the Amazonian region, in Colombia to commune and learn about the culture, medicine, spirituality, and rituals with different tribes throughout the region including Cofanes, Ingas, Kamentsas, and Coreguajes. As an active member of the Inga and Kamentsa communities in the Valley of Sibundoy Colombia, his mission is to be a bridge for the outer world and to bring the rich teachings, culture, and ways of life they offer to those curious to learn. In return, creating expansive prosperity within the communities, providing resources for the culture to thrive and preserve all while honoring and protecting their ancestral wisdom, traditions, territory, and language. Valencia was called to her path of healing, ceremonial plant medicine, and spiritual empowerment at the age of 17 to save her life from a dangerous spiral of depression, and again at the age of 39 when she was diagnosed with uterine cancer and was healed completely with yage/ayahuasca. After her initial introduction to this sacred plant medicine, she trained intensively with different Taitas (indigenous shamans or "fathers") from Colombia and around the world, and soon after decided that it is her main life purpose and work to serve humanity in this way. Valencia was also part of the original group that brought indigenous medicine healers from South and Central America to Miami, which from there spread to other cities such as New York, Asheville, New Orleans, and Los Angeles. Now at 58, Nina has continued to learn from this medicine and has been independently serving the yage for 15 years with the support of three respected Taitas to serve medicine as a woman – a rare honor in her country, Colombia – which speaks to her integrity, wisdom, and knowledge of plant medicines and ceremony. Leading ceremonies worldwide, she also works with a variety of other medicines from around the globe. Valencia has been serving Kambo for 10 years and is an IAKP-certified Kambo practitioner bridging the indigenous and traditional practices of Kambo with modern science and traditional eastern healing, working with the meridians and chakras of the body to create safe healing and powerful transformation. Her mission is to continue growing while helping others open their horizons to health, prosperity, and spiritual growth. The event is private and only open to Soho Beach House members. By ML Staff. - MOCA Announces Two Upcoming Installations for Its “Art on the Plaza” Series
The Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami (MOCA) is pleased to announce two new site-specific installations coming to the MOCA plaza on July 29 and Oct. 14. Autumn Casey’s “Clint and April” and Chire “VantaBlack” Regans’ “To What Lengths” were selected following MOCA’s 2022 open call to artists for its “Art on the Plaza” series. The successful open call received applications from over 75 professional artists in an effort to promote temporary installations on its public plaza and inspire the community and museum visitors. The competitive review process and artist selections were overseen by a MOCA-appointed selection committee. On view from July 29 through Oct. 7, Casey’s “Clint and April” is a sculptural installation featuring two swans, each secured on their respective plinths. The sculptures are illuminated from within via solar-powered lights. Existing as a pair to echo the natural practice of swans who mate for life, “Clint and April” creates a tender space for the contemplation of beauty, love, ideas of worship and familial bonds. Included with the installation is a performance with a written prompt of questions to inspire conversation between the artist and the audience. Casey draws on the ambiguity of personal memory and pop-cultural ephemera, to fantasize and elaborate on reflections of the world. Her practice moves from sculpture to collage, as well as video and performance. She enjoys redeploying existing materials or moments in unexpected, idiosyncratic ways. Casey received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the New World School of the Arts, Miami, FL and a master’s degree from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Philadelphia, PA. Her work has also been included in group exhibitions at The Pérez Art Museum Miami, FL; The Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami, FL; Vox Populi, Philadelphia, PA; Practice Gallery, Philadelphia, PA; among others. Her work is collected by The Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami, The Pérez Art Museum Miami and in private collections in Miami and New York City. She was born in West Palm Beach, FL, and currently lives and works in Miami, FL. On view from Oct. 14 through Jan. 20, 2023, VantaBlack’s “To What Lengths,” will showcase a key component to her artistic practice by reflecting on legacy building and preservation as foundational to Black culture and other diasporic peoples. VantaBlack will explore how ideas about legacy are woven into everyday actions by activating five palm trees on the MOCA Plaza with large-scale braids, adorned with beads, metal, and artificial sunflowers and gardenias. The braids of each tree will follow stylings representative of the women in VantaBlack’s family. “Hair grooming through different braiding techniques has been passed down through the matriarchs of my family,” said VantaBlack. “It is a vehicle for sharing oral history, bond building between generations, a form of caregiving, amongst many other traditions. The positioning of one body between another creates a space of vulnerability. Valuable memories are created and exchanged through this process which also helps develop a lifelong skill.” At the base of each tree will be a round mat with cushions for seating, inviting viewers to engage with the work while looking up. “My goal is for anyone who interacts with this work to embrace feelings of comfort, relaxation, and vulnerability,” she continued. VantaBlack was born in Saint Louis, Missouri, and currently works in Miami, Florida. VantaBlack received a bachelor’s degree from Florida A&M University in 2005. VantaBlack’s art practice exists at the intersection of social justice and storytelling. Her work responds to urgent societal concerns and functions as a critical platform to amplify the voices of the communities she engages with. VantaBlack works with acrylic, charcoal, and textiles. Selected solo exhibitions include “A Reflection of the Times” (2021), Bakehouse Art Complex, Wynwood, FL, and “I Felt Your Gaze Upon Me, I Knew You Were Watching” (2021), Hollywood Art & Culture Center, Hollywood, FL. Selected group exhibitions include “On the Frontline” (2021), Mount Sinai Hospital, Miami Beach, FL; “Familiar Distances” (2021), Edgezones Art Gallery, Wynwood, FL; and “Where There is Power” (2021), Miami Beach, FL. VantaBlack received the Home & Away Residency at Anderson Ranch (2021), the Inaugural Ellies Social Justice Award (2020), and the Racial Equity Initiative Award (2021). “We are pleased to support local artists by offering them the opportunity to showcase their work on MOCA’s plaza. ‘Art on the Plaza’ offers a boost of creative energy accessible to visitors and passersby,” said Chana Sheldon, executive director of MOCA. “Autumn and VantaBlack align with the museum’s mission to make contemporary art accessible to everyone and connect diverse audiences and cultures by providing a welcoming place to encounter new ideas and voices.” The museum inaugurated “Art on the Plaza,” a series of temporary public art installations on MOCA’s plaza in 2021, to invite artists to activate the space and connect the museum to the community. Amanda Sanfilippo Long, who currently serves as Curator and Artist Manager for the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs, Art in Public Places program, is organizing the program. The museum will host a series of programming to coincide with the art installations throughout the year. The 2021 series featured South Florida artists Reginald O’Neal, Morel Doucet and Stephen Arboite, Najja Moon, Nice n’ Easy, and Studio AMLgMATD. To kick off the 2022 season, the museum displayed the public artwork, “Her Touch Smooths Rough Waters” by Miami-based artist Onajide Shabaka. Completed in October 2018, the MOCA Plaza renovation was made possible due to a grant from the North Miami Community Redevelopment Agency (NMCRA) to cover construction costs of nearly 33,000-sq.-ft. of brick pavers, new landscaping, new LED lights and necessary equipment. MOCA’s “Art on the Plaza” program is made possible with major support from the NMCRA. MOCA North Miami presents contemporary art and its historical influences through exhibitions, educational programs, and collections. Inspired by its surrounding communities, MOCA connects diverse audiences and cultures by providing a welcoming place to encounter new ideas and voices and nurturing a lifelong love of the arts. MOCA developed from the Center of Contemporary Art which was inaugurated in 1981. The establishment of the permanent collection coincided with the institution’s move into their current building designed by Charles Gwathmey of GSNY in 1996. Under the direction of Executive Director Chana Sheldon and a newly installed Board of Trustees, MOCA premiered AFRICOBRA: Messages to the People during Art Basel Miami Beach in 2018. AFRICOBRA: Nation Time, the next chapter of the exhibition, was selected as an official Collateral Event of Biennale Arte 2019 in Venice, Italy. Original exhibitions include: My Name is Maryan curated by Alison Gingeras (2021), Michael Richards: Are You Down? co-curated by Alex Fialho and Melissa Levin (2021), Raul de Nieves: Eternal Return and The Obsidian Heart curated by Risa Puleo (2020), and Alice Rahon: Poetic Invocations curated by Teresa Arcq (2019). Art on the Plaza is presented by MOCA, with Major Support from the North Miami Community Redevelopment Agency (NMCRA) and is organized by Amanda Sanfilippo Long with commissions being selected through an Open Call to artists in South Florida. MOCA North Miami is generously funded by the North Miami Mayor and Council and the City of North Miami; the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation; the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs and the Cultural Affairs Council, the Miami-Dade County Mayor and Board of County Commissioners; the State of Florida, Department of State, Division of Arts and Culture and the Florida Council on Arts and Culture (Section 286.25, Florida Statutes); the National Endowment for the Arts; The Nathan Cummings Foundation; the Sol Taplin Charitable Foundation; and The Cowles Charitable Trust. We also thank our Board of Trustees, Curator’s Circle, and MOCA Members for their meaningful support. For more information, visit https://mocanomi.org/ By ML Staff. The Jills Zeder Group, a powerhouse team of Coldwell Banker Global Luxury Ambassadors with Coldwell Banker Realty, have once again been ranked as the No. 1 large team in the entire United States, as announced in the 2022 RealTrends “The Thousand” list published in The Wall Street Journal. RealTrends ranked The Jills Zeder Group No. 1 on the list, based on achieving $2,250,764,707 in closed sales volume in 2021 and 367.60 closed transaction sides in 2021. Affiliated with Coldwell Banker Realty’s offices in Miami Beach and Coral Gables, Florida, the sales team, which specializes in luxury real estate, including luxury estates, condominiums, waterfront properties, and highly complex assemblages, achieved more sales volume than any other small, medium or large team from any brokerage or company nationwide. “Year over year, The Jills Zeder Group not only sets the bar for the industry standard of excellence, but they surpass their own benchmark. The team’s ingenuity, dedication to client service, extreme market intelligence and fierce business acumen has resulted in another outstanding recognition this year,” said Ryan Gorman, CEO of Coldwell Banker. “It is a true privilege to have the opportunity to serve this top-performing, legendary team as part of Coldwell Banker.” “I’m honored to once again congratulate The Jills Zeder Group for their distinguished achievement earning the No. 1 spot on the prestigious RealTrends list, solidifying them as the very best real estate team in the country,” said Duff Rubin, president of Coldwell Banker Realty in Florida. “This well-earned recognition reconfirms what we already know about the team, that they offer their clients incomparable professionalism and real estate knowledge, as well as a superior understanding of the complex and evolving market of South Florida.” The RealTrends “The Thousand” ranking consists of all real estate agents and teams throughout the United States who took part in residential real estate transactions in 2021. - Poliform at Salone del Mobile.Milano
Poliform is back as a protagonist, in the spotlights of Salone del Mobile.Milano: a long-awaited event, postponed over the last two years and now even more vigorously desired. It is a return in grand style, bringing the aesthetic canons and values that guide the company back to the fore: elegance, refinement, design, durability, versatility, among many others. They are illustrated inside a space of 1000 square meters, and embodied by new offerings in tune with an updated vision of a coherent, recognizable lifestyle, capable of establishing dialogue with contemporary trends. Everything revolves around a central space with a distinctive circular form – a symbol of perfection, harmony and fulfillment. A piazza that encourages people to gather and interact, finally crossing paths once again. This place of encounter par excellence becomes the setting for the displays of Poliform at the fair in Milan. With its fluid layout free of barriers, this fulcrum of the theatrical showcase is divided into two opposite but complementary areas, both with a focus on a world of relationships. On the one hand, business relations fostered by a relaxing, enveloping lounge area, where clients can enjoy the brand’s atmosphere, wrapped in the comfort of its offerings for the living area; on the other, the relationships of family life and socializing, embodied in a habitat concept that recreates a sophisticated villa in perfect Poliform style. Inside this ideal home the rhythmical sequence of spaces creates an immersive pathway, leading from the entrance across two areas (a family room and a living room), all the way to the core of the project, represented – not coincidentally – by the kitchen. With its ample proportions, this zone is set aside to contain a multiplicity of habits and uses, with extreme functional efficacy. But the new activities required in the domestic environment are addressed in the next room, organized to offer a welcoming home office and a corner for reading, featuring a majestic bookcase. A cozy space that foreshadows the quiet relaxation of the bedroom zone. This aspect of the home is formulated in two separate suites, linked by a walk-in closet envisioned as an atelier: a large architectural chandelier looms over this microcosm devoted to beauty and personal care, lighting the richly accessorized wardrobes that form the perimeter and allow the light to spread into the surrounding atmosphere through glass doors. The creation of boundless spatial horizons, encouraging interaction between individual areas, develops not only inside the residential setting, but also in the relationship between the interior and exterior of the architecture of the stand. Large glass openings with a height of five meters allow the gaze to cross the walls, entering the garden around the display stage: an enveloping, natural green area featuring works of art to add another touch of elegance and refinement, also in the outdoor context. Likewise, the house with its variegated décor tableaux becomes clearly visible from the outside, almost eliminating barriers and boundaries. The total indoor-outdoor symbiosis thus becomes a metaphor of Poliform’s “green” approach, emphasized and illustrated, pursued with the philosophy of a Human Company, a vehicle of the highest ethical and deontological standards. Respect for the territory in which the company has taken form, and for the environment that surrounds it, translates into concrete actions that rely on technological innovation and a focus on resources. The direct consequence of these attitudes is the creation of products of maximum durability, designed for easy repair, versatile adaptation and effective recycling. Within this naturally open dimension, architecture becomes soft and light: the “muted” black color that defines it creates a simple graphic sign in the space, allowing the pale tones of the spaces and the furnishings to emerge by contrast: warm hues, shades of cream and beige, exquisite notes of wood varieties like pale oak, to form a fil rouge. The stylistic consistency and uniformity makes the products and their setting become a single ambient: bookcases and systems, daytime and nighttime zones, go beyond their mere functions to become part of the structure itself. Smaller furnishing complements perform the task of accenting the spaces with color, thanks to the finishes and combinations of materials that stand out in the composition. The visual impressions are joined by particular attention to tactile aspects: the entire setting becomes an all-around sensorial experience. Stone covers the surface of the living area, fabrics enhance the wall paneling, carpets soften the atmosphere in the bedroom zone, while elegant teak warms up the entrance area. The multiple materials of the new products take part in this game of the senses, particularly in the case of the new textile coverings with a “green” identity: the new Poliform range focuses on structured fabrics, from the haute couture tones of bouclé to jacquard weaves in linen and viscose with an elegant, contemporary image, made with certified natural fibers or regenerated materials. A harmony of tones and combinations, reflecting the company’s sustainable and ecological outlook. Every interior design detail has been developed to foster pleasant sensations, to pamper the imagination, to convey the full experience of a “Casa Poliform.” CONNECT WITH POLIFORM info@poliformusa.com poliform.com Instagram | Facebook | LinkedIn | Twitter | Pinterest Poliform Miami showroom address and phone number: Poliform Miami 4100 NE 2nd Avenue, Suite 101 - 102 Miami, FL 33137 (305) 573-9950 By ML Staff. - Ghee Indian Kitchen as a Michelin Guide Bib Gourmand Winner
Alpareno Restaurant Group announces today that the Michelin Guide, which debuted in Florida this year, has awarded Ghee Indian Kitchen with a Bib Gourmand award. The announcement was made during an exclusive ceremony at the Ritz Carlton Orlando Grande Lakes. Ghee Indian Kitchen is a part of Alpareno Restaurant Group, a partnership with celebrated chef Niven Patel and accomplished hospitalian Mohamed “Mo” Alkassar, who conceptualized Ghee, making it a staple in the buzzing South Florida culinary scene. “It is a tremendous honor to be recognized by The Michelin Guide with a Bib Gourmand award,” said chef Niven. “We create a community around our love for good food with the guest journey at the forefront of everything we do. Being recognized for doing what you love is the greatest reward I could ever wish for.” The Michelin Guide is internationally recognized as one of the most universally respected culinary authorities of fine dining. All three of Alpareno’s destination restaurants are among the top dining recommendations for visitors to Miami, one of the leading travel and culinary destinations in the world. “We are first and foremost proud to see the Miami culinary scene receiving the recognition it deserves,” explained Mo. “It’s an honor to be recognized by the Michelin Guide as we have always aimed for both service and culinary excellence, and this is the pinnacle of what we strive for.” Upon winning the prestigious award, chef Niven and Mo paid tribute to their team and the extended members of the Alpareno family, acknowledging the number of people it takes to create memorable dining experiences each night. Specifically, chef Niven and Mo called out the local farmers, fisherman, cheesemongers, servers, hosts, line cooks, chefs, dishwashers, mixologists and of course, their supporters in South Florida. “There would be no Alpareno Restaurant Group without Charles Nolan and Brent Reynolds,” said Mo. “Their unwavering support from day one gave us the platform needed to showcase the culinary excellence we have to offer.” Alpareno’s culinary portfolio is a growing restaurant collection of chef-driven concepts, including Ghee Indian Kitchen, Alpareno’s debut concept. Ghee is a modern Indian restaurant known for seasonal and contemporary spins on traditional fare. Ghee, which means “pure,” is chef Patel’s love letter to his family as many of the dishes are similar to those that he grew up eating as a child in Valdosta, GA. The concept put chef Niven and Mo on the map and was well received by the community, in addition to the national culinary stage as the concept has been nominated by the James Beard Foundation. Food & Wine Magazine also listed chef Niven as Best New Chef of 2020. Orno, which is located inside of THesis Hotel in Coral Gables, opened in October 2021, a New American concept centered around a wood-fired kitchen. The menu is ingredient-focused centered around the freshest available produce from Rancho Patel, Chef Niven’s home, farm, and the soul of Alpareno. As is true of all Alpareno endeavors, Mamey, also located at THesis Hotel and named after the tropical fruit, showcases the exotic flavors and spices commonly found in the islands. Mamey’s seasonal offerings are complemented by fun, innovative cocktails that transport diners to a tropical oasis. Chef Niven and Mo curate every detail of Alpareno’s unique restaurants, by providing creative input on design, choosing the global portfolio of wines and curating the immersive experience that diners receive nightly. Alpareno Restaurant Group is most known for sourcing local produce and herbs from chef Niven’s farm, Rancho Patel, that surrounds his family’s home in Homestead, FL. While the restaurants serve a selection of cuisine from various regions, chef Niven’s inspiration is consistently focused on showcasing fresh, seasonal produce. The menus at each of his restaurants are inspired by the ingredients. This dedication to sustainability and mindful sourcing is chef Niven’s lodestar and helped define his eclectic cooking style, which is deeply rooted in his heritage while simultaneously pulling inspiration from the region’s rich bounty. As we look towards the future, chef Niven and Mo are hard at work planning new menus and offerings at each of Alpareno’s restaurants. Additionally, they are conceptualizing future endeavors including the summer 2023 debut of Erba Italian Kitchen, chef Niven’s ode to his apprenticeship in Florence.
