  • 5 Ways Chiropractic Care Promotes Overall Wellbeing

Pain and discomfort can be alleviated by chiropractic adjustments to specific regions of your musculoskeletal system (your tendons, muscles, bones and ligaments). Treatment with chiropractors has been linked to increased mental and physical well-being. Achieving and maintaining a state of well-being requires deliberate action and intention. In today's fast-paced world, it's easy to let yourself get taken up by the stressors of daily life. Fortunately, there are ways to promote general well-being through holistic means, such as chiropractic care. 1. Enhanced Digestion If you are experiencing discomfort in your digestive tract, you are not likely feeling at your best. Studies suggest spine misalignment and misplaced joints might affect GI function. Research has shown that manipulative therapy can reduce the symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and also increase intestinal motility. Chiropractic therapy may aid digestion in various ways: Increased Blood Flow - Your gastrointestinal relies on a good supply of blood flow to keep it running smoothly. Chiropractic adjustments can help improve arterial blood flow, which benefits the entire GI tract. Decreased Stress - If stressed out, your body's natural responses will shut down your digestive tract so that your body can focus on other things. Chiropractic care can help to reduce the stress response and its effects on the body. 2. Increased Stability and Posture Improvement Chiropractic care relieves stress on the joints and ligaments in the spine. It can help improve posture and sustain a healthy spinal curvature; a neutral spinal curvature allows optimal nerve flow and a free range of motion throughout the body. Improvement in posture can also reduce the risk of neck and back pain and many other health issues. Studies have shown that having poor posture can increase feelings of depression and anxiety. Thus, improving your posture can help to maintain a healthy emotional state. 3. Strengthen Your Immunity A chiropractor can help boost your immune system with adjustments, vitamins and minerals, and other holistic treatment methods. Chiropractic care has increased the body's white blood cell count, indicating improved immune system function. The spinal column houses the central nervous system, which regulates the immune system. When the spine is misaligned, it causes the surrounding nerves to compress, which interrupts the immune system. 4. Decreases Stress Maintaining a healthy body and mind is crucial to achieving a state of well-being. The state of our nervous system can have a significant effect on the way we manage stress. It can also affect our ability to sleep well and regulate our emotions and general quality of life. Studies have shown that chiropractic care can help to reduce stress and anxiety. It is likely because chiropractors often use non-invasive and drug-free methods during treatment. Through adjustments, SnapCrack - Miami Lakes chiropractor can reduce muscle tension and improve blood flow, which helps to regulate cortisol levels in the body. Cortisol is the hormone that your body releases in response to stress. You can also use chiropractic adjustments to treat headaches and migraines. 5. Relieves Pain The structural changes that chiropractic care produces in the body can help reduce pain symptoms. These structural changes in the joints and spine can also improve joint mechanics, which can result in a reduction in pain symptoms. Back pain is one of the most commonly occurring pain syndromes among people of all ages. It has been linked to various issues, from muscle strain to misalignment of the spine. Chiropractic care effectively reduces the intensity of back pain in as few as two weeks. Chiropractic care is a holistic approach to health and wellness. It can help you decrease stress and minimize the impact of difficult situations on your mental and physical well-being. It is important to remember that the benefits of chiropractic care are not immediate. Rather, they take time to manifest through consistent treatment. The key to overall well-being is to be open to holistic healing methods and be willing to adjust your approach when necessary. By ML Staff. Image courtesy of Unsplash

  • Home Features Every Miami Family Wants

Living in Miami is fantastic, especially for anyone that loves the summer and the beach. Great weather and great people make this city the perfect moving location. When choosing a new home, features are just as important as location. These are the best home features every Miami family wants to see in their new home – from adding a home gym to installing smart features; these changes can transform any home. Multi-functional living space is a fantastic feature Moving into a new home can be stressful, no matter if it's a long or short-distance move. After finding a Miami home that has all the features you want to see, find movers to help you relocate. Professionals from Verified Movers advise you to always do your research before choosing a moving company. Working with professional movers is much safer and easier than doing it on your own. You can shift your focus toward planning the furniture layout in your new home. Choosing a home with ample living space is great because you have so many options for what to add and how to organize furniture in the room. The most popular thing to include in a multi-functional space is the combination of a living room and a formal dining room. This way, the whole family can get together for dinner and move on to watching a movie or playing board games together in the same room. It's also a good option for families with small children because they can have their own space to play without parents losing track of them. Another attractive option is the combination of a library and a living room. Having a large bookshelf in a beautifully decorated reading nook will inspire just about anybody to take up reading. You can also add a large desk to this space for those with hobbies. Now, the arts and crafts supplies have a designated place without taking up too much space. Multi-functional living space is an amazing home feature Smart electronic home features every Miami family wants With just a few easy upgrades, a home can be more energy-efficient and have more fun, exciting features. It's a fantastic idea to add smart technology to ease the use of tech and appliances in our homes. You can improve security in a couple of easy steps. Keep your family safe by installing fire alarms, carbon monoxide detectors, video surveillance, and an alarm system. Image by Sebastian Scholz Nuki/unsplash Next up, upgrade your home by switching from using a regular remote to using a phone to change channels. It is an excellent feature because you will be able to control your TV from a long distance, including the time when you go on vacation. Now, you will give the impression of being at home, which also improves security. You can add an automatic heating and cooling system to control the home's temperature easily. Cooling down the rooms in your home before coming back from work is incredible. Smart tech can also help us save money and improve energy efficiency. For example, lights can automatically be turned on and off by movement. Solar panels are an excellent way to save money and help the environment at the same time. Another significant improvement you can make is a smart entertainment system, which can give you the movie-theatre experience in your living room. Having a home gym saves money and time Introducing a home gym can save much time family members would've ordinarily spent packing and traveling to the gym. It's more comfortable and easier for everyone, and you can play your favorite workout songs through your speakers instead of listening to them with headphones. Image by Matthew Sichkaruk/unsplash To move your gym equipment, have the right people by your side to help you safely transport it along with your other things. Working with the best movers in Miami will make the moving experience much more pleasant. Besides exercise machines, you can add features such as speakers or a mini-fridge to make exercising fun. A couple of beautiful plants can really make the area stand out too. Smaller homes that don't have a spare room that you can turn into a gym can be equipped with just a couple of exercise equipment in the corner of one room. Other than the gym, another fun feature is the sauna. It can make any Miami home feel and look like an expensive spa. The sauna, combined with some décor pieces and high-quality towels, will be the highlight of the home. An outdoor living area is one of the most fun home features every Miami family wants in their home. Image by Sonnie Hiles/unsplash Outdoor living space is the best home feature for Miami homes There’s nothing better than enjoying the beautiful, hot Miami weather with a nice barbecue in your own backyard. An outdoor living space can be added to the backyard of any home, no matter its size. A good set of patio furniture and some decorative pillows will transform the space into an amazing area for entertaining guests. Find a good place to set up a barbecue, or even build one in. If that seems too ordinary, you can build in a small outdoor kitchen with a pizza oven. It’s a unique and fun feature that will be the focal point of the back garden. In larger homes, one of the most stunning features that can be added is a pool or a hot tub. Children in the family can have fun playing in the backyard playground or building a tree house. Parents can easily keep an eye on their children while lounging on the patio couch. A beautiful outdoor living space gives us the chance to spend more time outside with our friends and family. Home offices are one of the most popular features in a home Working in the living room or dining room can be distracting, and there might not be as much storage space as one might need when working from home. A home office doesn’t have to take up much square footage; it can be the smallest room in the house. Even so, it will increase the value of the home. A simple desk with a comfortable space and a library with enough storage space is all you need to make it happen in order to have a designated working space. Not only does a home office help us stay concentrated and efficient when working, but it also helps better balance work time and free time. Now that working from home is becoming more and more popular, it’s no wonder that this is one of the most popular home features every Miami family wants. Adding a home office will make it easier to work from home. Image Unsplash Final thoughts Some popular home features every Miami family wants to have in their home are functional, whereas others are focused more on making it more fun to stay at home. We can see that upgrades and new features in our homes, such as these, can enrich our lives and make them easier. All in all, Miami living is the best, especially when your home has features as fun and smart as these. By ML Staff. Images by Unsplash

  • Is Your Energy Budget Balanced?

Time is money, right? Well so is your energy. As a success coach for C-suite executives, I find that everyone I talk to wishes they had more time and more energy to get more done. They complain of waking up exhausted, dreading the day ahead and wondering how to get it all done. If you are constantly feeling overwhelmed, anxious and weary, your saving grace may be a well-maintained energy budget. This new habit will keep you feeling more balanced, calmer and will improve your overall health. Energy-in must equal energy-out in any given week to keep us feeling happy, healthy and productive. Think of it like a bank account for energy. You only have a finite amount to spend each week before you’re tapped out. If you make too many withdrawals each week you’re going to find yourself in debt, otherwise known as burnout. This leaves you feeling fatigued, mentally exhausted and devoid of motivation. You must find ways of consistently restoring your energy by making deposits into your energy account before you start spending energy the next week. Otherwise, you’ll be running on empty. Balance Your Energy Budget First, review your Energy Budget. Write down all of the necessary actions that need your attention each week – eg, work, family and other vital responsibilities. Now, write down the areas of your life where you are spending time and energy that are less vital. Then identify three or more activities where you could pull back a bit to regain that equilibrium. For example, can you reduce the number of social events or time spent with people or activities that drain you? Does something seem urgent, but can wait till tomorrow or even next week? Finding these little spaces to regain time and energy is vital to our overall health. Then list the things that restore and recharge you. Sleep is the most obvious way we recharge. However, there are important activities that may take energy but also replenish, like exercise, meditation, recreational reading, hobbies and other cathartic activities which allow you to release tension as well as relaxing activities that allow you to restore and rejuvenate. Once you assess your energy budget you will notice if there are extraneous activities unnecessarily draining you of resources. It’s time to stop engaging in toxic activities and spending time with people that drain you of your energy. It’s time to stop doing too much. We need to flip the script on what success means. Success does not have to be synonymous with exhaustion. It’s time to take your control back. Start by being conscious of how you’re feeling in each moment— Where are you? What are you doing? Who are you with? Then begin asking the following questions: Does this give me joy, peace or calm? Is this causing me to feel stressed or unhappy? If the answer is the latter it’s probably time to cut this activity out of the budget. You may have to cut people out of your budget as well. Someone’s bad mood can rub off on you and cause you to spend precious energy you can’t afford to waste. If you’re taking the time to find your way to happiness, then you have a right to choose how and with whom you want to spend your time. “It’s time to take your control back.” - Zahra Karsan Many people feel obligated to family members or old friends which requires a lot of us. If there’s an activity, social scene or a person that makes you feel drained, just notice it for now. Understand, you get to choose how much time and energy you give away. Start to draw healthy boundaries to remove yourself or to minimize the time spent in situations that could otherwise be draining or negative. Take note of 3 things you could do to bring more joy, more peace, more relaxation, and more fun into your week. Take note of 3 things you can do to recharge and replenish your energy stores throughout the week. Just like when you make time to do a spring cleaning of your house or closet, it’s time to really examine your life and ask yourself what brings you joy and what is just taking up space? Draw healthy boundaries so you have enough time to look after yourself and those that matter most. Again, know that you absolutely have the right to choose the people and activities in your life. Choosing to spend time in situations that leave you feeling uplifted will strengthen your ability to stay in a state of calm and will give you greater energy. Remember, energy-in must equal energy-out. If you can balance your energy budget, you balance your life. • Miami Chefs Share Vegetarian Month Recipes

With National Vegetarian Month kicking off October 1, two Miami chefs are sharing their favorite easy-to-recreate vegetarian recipes that will quickly become at-home dinner menu staples (even after the month is over!). From Osteria Morini’s signature carciofi (or grilled artichoke) to COYO Taco’s mouthwatering esquite, veggies steal the show in these meatless recipes: Osteria Morini Miami Beach From award-winning New York-based Altamarea Group, Osteria Morini Miami Beach Corporate Executive Chef Bill Dorrler and Chef di Cucina Thomas Levandoski’s Carciofi (or grilled artichokes) combines the hearty veggie with fresh citrus and herbs. COYO Taco Beloved Miami-grown taqueria and speakeasy COYO Taco offers authentic Mexican fare with a modern twist. Executive Chef Scott Linquist’s menu focuses on organic and locally grown ingredients whenever possible, and his irresistible esquite simply combines corn, Cotija, jalapeno and fresh lime making it super easy to enjoy at home with your favorite margarita. RECIPES Osteria Morini - Carciofi Serves 4 Ingredients: 16 oz. artichoke hearts [A good quality canned/jarred artichoke heart works great for this dish – we recommend Sogno Tuscano, which are canned with white wine an olive oil. If you prefer to use fresh, artichokes should be cleaned and steamed before grilling] 1 orange, zested and juiced 1 lemon, zested and juiced 1 lime zested and juiced 4 cloves of garlic, minced or grated 1.5 shallots, finely minced ½ cup chopped chives ½ cup chopped parsley ¼ cup chopped basil Pearl or cippolini onions [Jarred onions are great for this as well. Sogno Tuscano carries a wonderful grilled borettane onion, preserved in balsamic vinegar, adds an extra layer of flavor] Calabrian chili peppers Olive oil Salt Method: Drain artichokes from olive oil. Season lightly with salt. Grill artichokes until gently marked. In a bowl, combine zest and juice of the lemon, lime and orange and ½ cup of olive oil. Add artichokes and toss until coated. For herbed yogurt, combine 8 oz. greek yogurt, 1/2 of the shallot, 1/2 of the garlic, 1/2 of the parsley, 1/2 of the chives, 2 tbls of olive oil and a generous pinch of salt. Stir until blended For salsa verde, combine the remaining chives, parsley, shallot, garlic and basil with 1 cup of olive oil. Season with a generous pinch of salt and red chili flakes. [Skip the chopping and put all of the ingredients into a food processor. A few pulses should do the trick. Mixture should be course] In using canned onions, simply drain and reserve. If used fresh, peel and season with olive oil and salt. Grill along with artichokes. Remove from grill and toss with balsamic vinegar Plating: Spread a quarter of the herbed yogurt onto each plate. Lay artichoke piece on top, along with 2-3 pearl onions per plate. Finish with salsa verde Optional: spice it up and garnish a couple calabrian chilis! COYO Taco - Esquite Serves 4 Ingredients: 4 fresh whole corn 1 whole jalapeño pepper 8 oz chipotle aioli (can buy at Publix or most grocery stores) 4 oz Cotija cheese 1 oz of Tajin or chili powder 2 Fresca limes cut in half Sprinkle of salt Method: Peel and clean fresh corn, removing as much excess “hair treads” as possible. With a knife, cut off corn kernels from the cob. In a saucepan, cover kernels with water and boil for 5 minutes, with a little salt and 1 whole jalapeño pepper Strain kernels and place them in 4 cups (remove jalapeño) Swirl 2 oz of chipotle aioli on each serving, then sprinkle 1 oz of cotija cheese to cover Add lime juice and Tajin (or chili powder) to your liking, and serve By ML Staff. • Ron DeSantis Dropping Migrants Off on Martha’s Vineyard May be Illegal – a Lawyer Explains Why

The unexpected arrival of approximately 50 Colombian and Venezuelan migrants on Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts, on Sept. 14, 2022, has prompted legal questions about how and why, exactly, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis chartered planes to drop them in this unlikely destination. An immigrant mother and child stand outside a church on Martha’s Vineyard on Sept. 15, 2022. Jonathan Wiggs/The Boston Globe via Getty Images The move is part of a broader campaign by Republican politicians to transport large numbers of migrants to liberal states and cities. Since then, Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker has activated 125 National Guard members to help distribute food and other necessities to the migrants, now living at a Cape Cod military base. And a Texas county sheriff announced Sept. 20 that he was launching an investigation into allegations that a Venezuelan migrant was paid to recruit the other migrants for the trip. Lawyers for 30 of the migrants have been asking for a legal investigation into what they call a “political stunt.” Many of the migrants said they were falsely promised housing, jobs and expedited work permits if they boarded planes in Texas set for Massachusetts – a likely preferred alternative to the San Antonio shelter where they were temporarily staying. As an immigration law professor, I think it is important to understand that the answer to whether it is legal to move migrants potentially against their will and transport them across states is complicated and depends on several unknown factors. Many of the 50 Venezuelan and Colombian migrants who were left on Martha’s Vineyard are asylum seekers, lawyers say.Jonathan Wiggs/The Boston Globe via Getty Images The intent behind the drop-off First, there is an open question of whether the migrants were illegally staying in the United States at the time they were transported to Martha’s Vineyard. There is a federal law, called 8 U.S.C. § 1324, that criminalizes transporting an undocumented migrant anywhere within the U.S. if the migrant has entered the U.S. unlawfully or remains in the country without a visa or other documentation. This law also prohibits someone from even helping or planning to transport undocumented migrants. But someone who is found guilty of this law must have also known – and disregarded the fact – that the migrants were in the U.S. without legal paperwork or other permission from immigration officials. Transporting consenting migrants who have the paperwork to be in the U.S. is legal. But certain factors – like DeSantis’ intent and knowledge of the migrants’ immigration status – could create potential civil and criminal liability. The migrants might legally be in the U.S. One key issue, then, is whether the migrants are legally authorized to be in the U.S. – and if not, whether DeSantis, his team and the charter airplane company helped the migrants illegally stay in the U.S. by flying them to Martha’s Vineyard. Some of the migrants are reportedly asylum seekers and not “illegal immigrants,” as DeSantis’ office has said. Generally, a migrant who is seeking asylum in the U.S. is not violating immigration law. That is because immigration asylum law authorizes migrants to enter the U.S. and apply for asylum – meaning that they ask for the legal right to stay in the U.S. because they have legitimate fears of returning to their own countries. Asylum seekers are allowed to temporarily stay in the U.S. while they await an immigration judge’s decision on their asylum application. Migrants might also get temporary permission to stay in the U.S. for other humanitarian reasons. It is unknown how many of the migrants flown to Martha’s Vineyard were authorized to remain in the country or have pending asylum applications. Moving migrants within the US Another major question is whether transporting migrants could somehow help or promote their potentially undocumented immigration status. In 1999, for example, a U.S. federal court of appeals determined that an individual transporting two undocumented migrants from New Mexico to Colorado in search of employment violated immigration law, since the move advanced the undocumented migrants’ unlawful presence in the U.S. Perhaps there is evidence that DeSantis, or members of his team, helped or advanced the migrants’ unlawful entry or continued illegal presence in the U.S. by transporting them to a sanctuary location within Massachusetts. Ultimately, DeSantis’ decision to fly migrants to Massachusetts likely frustrated the Biden administration’s immigration law enforcement. Randomly moving migrants across states makes it harder for the government to process asylum applications and to deport migrants who are not eligible for asylum. This includes what the migrants were told – and by whom. Deceiving people and then moving them from one place to another could constitute kidnapping. Falsely promising available work permits is also illegal. Human trafficking, according to U.S. law, must include exploitation resulting in some kind of material gain. While there is nothing to indicate that DeSantis received compensation for flying the migrants to Massachusetts, the private airplane charter company did receive money to transport them. The identities and knowledge of the government officials involved in the entire Martha’s Vineyard scheme have not been publicly released. A formal investigation into the migrants’ individual circumstances – and an examination of those involved with the flight to Martha’s Vineyard – could determine whether this incident resulted in legal violations of civil or criminal laws.
