The three pieces elicit conversations around contemporary ideals of physical beauty and the effects it has on women. Hovnanian invites onlookers to dive deeper into the detrimental effects of beauty standards when interacting with Fun House Dressing Room. How women have been groomed to use feminine beauty to gain power while gazing at Body Armor, and how women suffer every bathing suit season with white miracle suit before setting unrealistic standards for themselves. The pieces from Power & Beauty showcase the intricate complexities of modern feminism and how we can combat those inner and outer critics. By ML Staff. Images Courtesy Of WORLD RED EYE
- María Guinand Leads a Cultural Musical Journey, From Bach to Spain and Latin America
María Guinand, internationally lauded director of the Schola Cantorum de Venezuela, joins Seraphic Fire to weave a program that contrasts the heavenly love of Johann Sebastian Bach’s Jesu, meine Freude with secular, Spanish-language Renaissance and contemporary works on earthly themes of humor, desire, and the sea. Disparity and contradiction are on display in this thought-provoking program. “Maestra Guinand has been a champion for music writ large in South America, and she has brought that passion to her work in the US. She is absolutely the #1 person for this repertoire, and we wanted the best.” Patrick Dupre Quigley, Artistic Director, Seraphic Fire “I think in the world today, choral music is an art that can bring not only beauty through music and singing, but also creativity, joy, and openness,” said Maestra Guinand. “It can build bridges, which we need very much to build bridges between cultures and human beings to keep living on this planet in the best possible way. And I think Miami is a place of encounter of various cultures that will allow many people coming from different places to feel represented somehow; to feel that they have a voice also in the program. So, this is very important for me.” Performances: Wed, Mar 22, 7:30 pm | Miami | St. Sophia Orthodox Thu, Mar 23, 7:00 pm | Naples | Vanderbilt Presbyterian Fri, Mar 24, 7:30 pm | Coral Gables | St. Philip’s Episcopal Sat, Mar 25, 7:30 pm | Ft. - PORT 32 Marinas Acquires Lighthouse Point Marina in Southeast Florida
PORT 32 Marinas, LLC (PORT 32) today acquired one of South Florida’s most admired waterfront properties, Lighthouse Point Marina. Located at 2831 Marina Circle, Lighthouse Point, FL, the marina is one of the area’s most coveted destinations in the heart of the “Yachting Capital of the World.” It is situated on the Intracoastal Waterway, just minutes from the Hillsboro Inlet. PORT 32 is a leading owner, operator, developer, and acquirer of a growing collection of irreplaceable marina assets in nine premier markets across both coasts of Florida. The purchase of Lighthouse Point represents the first marina acquisition by the new PORT 32 leadership team, which joined the company in late 2022. With the addition of Lighthouse Point, PORT 32 seeks to grow its family of marinas within Florida and to expand strategically into new markets along the Atlantic Coast and Gulf of Mexico. “Lighthouse Point Marina is a special lifestyle property in an extraordinary location, tucked just inside the clear Atlantic waters of the Hillsboro Inlet. Here at PORT 32, we love cruising with friends and family, saltwater fishing, and ice-cold drinks on the waterfront, which makes Lighthouse Point a perfect fit for our growing portfolio of premier coastal marinas,” said Austin Schell, CEO of PORT 32 Marinas. “After almost 60 years of unbroken family ownership, we are thrilled the Spiekers chose PORT 32 Marinas to carry on their legacy as the first non-family owner of Lighthouse Point. To all our Lighthouse Point Marina members and the surrounding community, we look forward to introducing you to our leadership team and hope to meet you on the docks, at the Nauti Dawg restaurant, or on the saltwater sometime soon.” CBRE’s Julie Fisher Berry and Sheila Roux represented the seller, Lighthouse Point Marina Inc., in the transaction. Led by Julie Fisher Berry, CBRE’s Marina and Shipyards brokerage team in South Florida has transacted over $1.5 billion in marina and shipyard sales. Featuring 102 wet slips that can accommodate 25- to 80-foot vessels, the 4,410 total linear footage marina had been family owned and operated for over 50 years and had never been offered for acquisition previously. Located less than ½ nautical mile from the Hillsboro Inlet, Lighthouse Point Marina provides immediate access to the ocean, a significant feature for sportfishing enthusiasts. Amenities, such as the fuel dock, the live bait station, the popular Nauti Dawg restaurant, the ship store, and other features make this one of the most desirable marinas for boaters. Boasting a beautiful waterfront location and stunning Intracoastal views, the 2,271-square-foot Nauti Dawg restaurant, a long-standing favorite among locals, is open six days a week (closed on Tuesdays) for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Guests can enjoy weekly live entertainment and music and relax in a friendly and welcoming ambiance. With 90 seats in an indoor and outdoor setting, the restaurant also features six dedicated transient slips. “Lighthouse Point Marina is one of the most coveted marinas in South Florida due to its location near the Hillsboro Inlet and the surrounding area of Lighthouse Point. The owners have built a loyal customer base by providing great service, operating an excellent restaurant, and keeping the marina in impeccable condition,” said Julie Fisher Berry, a senior vice president with CBRE in Fort Lauderdale. “CBRE is honored to have represented the owners and identified the buyer of this high-profile marina property. After a strategic offering process, PORT 32 Marinas emerged as the perfect buyer. CEO Austin Schell and his team have engaged with the owners and staff for a smooth transition that will continue the successful legacy that the Spieker family built.” “Lighthouse Point Marina has been owned and operated by one family, the Spieker family, for over half a century. As second-generation owner-operators, it was important for us to find a buyer that will respect what we have created and retain our staff and family culture with the intention of maintaining and even improving the site with time. We believe we have found that buyer with PORT 32 Marinas. On behalf of owners, Debbie Edwards, Christian Spieker and myself, we feel the Lighthouse Point Marina and Nauti Dawg Marina Café are being left in good hands, and we look forward to watching both entities blossom under the new leadership of PORT 32 Marinas,” said Maureen Canada, former president of Lighthouse Point Marina. Adato first moved to Miami in 2017, after living and working in New York City, I decided to make a change and explore new opportunities in product photography. I had always been drawn to Miami's vibrant and diverse culture, as well as its beautiful beaches and warm climate, so I decided to make the move in 2017. “Since arriving in Miami, I have found the city to be an incredibly inspiring place to work as a product photographer,” he said. “I have had the opportunity to work with a wide range of clients, from small local businesses to large corporations, and have photographed a variety of products, from luxury jewelry to high-end beauty photography.” He has worked with Miami-based brands including Skin&Co®, Strata Clothing, House of Bo, Kathryn Lily Equestrian, VM Jewels, LIGHTS LACQUER, Miami Home Fashions, and more. “In addition to the exciting professional opportunities that Miami has offered me, I have also had the chance to immerse myself in the city's unique culture and community,” said Adato. “I have enjoyed exploring the many art galleries, museums, and cultural events that the city has to offer, and have met many talented and inspiring people in my field.” “Overall, my experience living and working in Miami has been incredibly positive, and I look forward to continuing to grow and evolve as a product photographer in this dynamic and exciting city,” he adds. Miami has helped shape his vision as a photographer. “Miami has been a fantastic place to live and work as a photographer, and I believe that the city has had a significant impact on my vision as an artist,” he said. “One of the things that I love most about Miami is its vibrant and diverse culture,” adds Adato. “The city is a melting pot of different people, languages, and customs, and this rich tapestry of experiences has helped me to develop a more nuanced and multicultural approach to my work.” When he is photographing products for his clients, he often draws inspiration from the colors and textures of Miami's various neighborhoods. “From the pastel-hued buildings of South Beach to the colorful street art of Wynwood, Miami is a visual feast, and I try to infuse my photographs with the same sense of energy and vibrancy,” he said. Overall, he feels lucky to call Miami his home. “I believe that the city has had a profound impact on my work as a photographer,” said Adato. “From the rich cultural tapestry to the beautiful natural surroundings and sense of playfulness, Miami is a city that never stops inspiring me, and I can't wait to see where it takes me next.” Inside his Miami studio, Adato has a range of state-of-the-art equipment and tools that allow him to create stunning images that showcase my clients' products in the best possible light. “From high-end camera equipment to cutting-edge lighting and backdrops, I have everything I need to bring my clients' visions to life,” he said. “I believe that great product photography is a collaborative process, and I work closely with my clients to ensure that their vision is fully realized in every shot,” adds Adato. “Whether we're working together on a concept or just fine-tuning the details of a shoot, I strive to make every project a true partnership.” In fact, some of his product photography is typically Miami. Adato has had the chance to shoot swimwear brands, which is a major industry in the city. He has also shot a range of swimwear products, from high-end designer bikinis to more affordable options for local boutiques. “In these shoots, I aim to capture the energy and playfulness of Miami's beach culture, using natural light and vibrant backgrounds to create images that are both beautiful and engaging,” he said. He has also worked with several downtown Miami jewelry brands to help them showcase their products in the best possible light. “Downtown Miami is home to a number of high-end jewelry boutiques, and I have had the opportunity to work with several of them on product photography projects,” said Adato. “In these shoots, I work closely with the store owners and designers to understand their unique brand identity and vision for the shoot,” he said. “Whether it's a collection of classic diamond rings or a range of bold and modern statement pieces, I aim to create images that capture the essence of each piece and highlight its unique qualities.” In this coming year, and beyond, Adato has plans to expand Pro Photo Studio. “As a product photographer, I have several plans for growth and expansion of my business in 2023,” he said. “I plan to expand my services to offer new types of photography, investing in new equipment, hiring more people, collaborating with other creatives, attending industry events, and building a stronger online presence.” “By offering more comprehensive services, staying up to date with the latest trends and techniques, and expanding my network and online presence, I hope to provide more value to my clients and continue to grow my business in the coming year,” he adds.
