  • Miami to Close Restaurants, Gyms and Other Facilities, Once again

Due to the increase of COVID-19 infections, Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez signed an emergency order issuing closures across many counties. "I am continuing to roll back business openings as we continue to see a spike in the percent of positive COVID-19 tests and an uptick in hospitalizations. I am signing an emergency order that will close restaurants (except for takeout and delivery services), along with ballrooms, banquet facilities, party venues, gyms and fitness centers, and short-term rentals," stated the Mayor. According to the new order, these closings, among others, will be effective Wednesday, July 8, 2020. "We want to ensure that our hospitals continue to have the staffing necessary to save lives. At this time, I plan to keep open various outdoor activities, including condominium and hotel pools with strict social distancing and masks rules, as well as summer camps and child daycare centers with strict capacity limits, requiring masks and social distancing of at least 6 feet," added ," added Gimenez. Beaches will be open on Tuesday, July 7, 2020, however, if crowding continues and rules are broken, the beaches will once again be closed. In addition, office buildings, retail stores and grooming services will remain open for now. The 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Countywide curfew will remain in force with exceptions for essential workers and for people who have a religious obligation. "We are still tracking the spike in the number of cases involving 18- to 34-year-olds that began in mid-June, which the County’s medical experts say was caused by a number of factors, including young people going to congested places — indoors and outside — without taking precautions such as wearing masks and practicing social distancing. Contributing to the positives in that age group, the doctors have told me, were graduation parties, gatherings at restaurants that turned into packed parties in violation of the rules and street protests where people could not maintain social distancing and where not everyone was wearing facial coverings," stated the Mayor. • This Simple Model Shows the Importance of Social Distancing & Wearing Masks

With the advent of an infectious disease outbreak, epidemiologists and public health officials quickly try to forecast deaths and infections using complex computer models. But with a brand new virus like the one that causes COVID-19, these estimates are complicated by a dearth of credible information on symptoms, contagion and those who are most at risk. My team at the Goldenson Center for Actuarial Research has developed a free, user-friendly computer model that has a different goal. It demonstrates how infections and deaths progress on a daily basis over a three-month period depending on how people behave in response to the outbreak. This model allows the public to input data that demonstrate how changes in safety measures in their communities, including wearing face covering and social distancing, can significantly impact the spread of this virus and mortality rates. Our Goldenson Center COVID-19 model uses a hypothetical 1,000-person population and calculates outcomes using three types of information: the initial number of infections, social distancing, and personal protection measures that include wearing masks, frequent hand-washing and staying quarantined if exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms. Our model then uses this initial information to project on a daily basis the cumulative infections and deaths over a three-month period. It’s not based on actual disease data and is designed to demonstrate the effects of safety measures, rather than make specific predictions. This simple actuarial model uses general guidelines, rather than data and assumptions about COVID-19 specifically, to simulate the effect of safety protocols. Here, a hypothetical group of 100 infected people out of a population of 1,000, with 10% observing good safety protocols, leads to hundreds of infections and deaths after three months. Goldenson Center at the University of Connecticut, Author provided. This simulation shows the effect on the same hypothetical group of 100 infected people out of a group of 1,000 where 80% of people wear masks and practice social distancing, which slows the infection rate to almost zero after two months. Goldenson Center for Actuarial Research,CC BY-NC-ND Why it matters By inputting different assumptions, people can see how their community’s personal actions can change the course of this pandemic – and how poor protocols can trigger exponential spread of the virus. For example, let’s assume that 100 people are infected out of a population of 1,000, with one in 10 wearing masks, keeping appropriate distance and quarantining if necessary. The model shows that 30 days later, the virus would have killed 156 people. After three months, the death toll reaches 460 – with 510 now infected. However, our model shows that if half the population practices safe protocols, infections after 90 days drop to 293 and deaths drop even more dramatically, to 149 – about one-third of the lives lost under looser measures. A poster encouraging mask-wearing is displayed on the entrance door of a classroom at a primary school. Numerous models show that wearing masks limits COVID-19 transmission. Christof Stache/Getty Images The main takeaway is that safety measures that are within our control have significant impact – and ignoring those protocols can have dire consequences. If a state opens up and maintains safety measures for at least three months, the virus will be contained and possibly eliminated. On the other hand, if a state opens up too soon and its residents ignore safety protocols, there could be an exponential increase in COVID-19 deaths within months. It’s important for the public to realize that spread of the virus is impacted only by personal behavior. What’s next? Our model shows that there must be continued emphasis on maintaining necessary safety measures as we relax shelter-in-place rules and get people back to work. Practicing common-sense social distancing, wearing masks in public and quarantining when necessary is a small inconvenience for a limited amount of time – that will contain the devastation of this virus and ensure that our economy is restored. • How to Lower Your Coronavirus Risk While Eating Out: Restaurant Advice From an Expert

As Miami restaurants and bars reopen to the public, it’s important to realize that eating out will increase your risk of exposure to the new coronavirus. Two of the most important public health measures for keeping illnesses to a minimum are nearly impossible in these situations: First, it’s hard to eat or drink while wearing a face mask. Second, social distancing is difficult in tight spaces normally filled with back-to-back seating and servers who weave among the busy tables all evening long. So, what should you look out for, and how can you and the restaurant reduce the risk? Here are answers to a few common questions. How far apart should tables and bar stools be? There is nothing magical about 6 feet, the number we often hear in formal guidance from government agencies. I would consider that the minimum distance required for safe spacing. The “6-foot” rule is based on old data about the distance droplets can spread respiratory viruses. These droplets tend to settle out of the air within 6 feet, but that isn’t always the case. Aerosols can spread the virus over larger distances, though there remains some uncertainty about how common this spread is. Particles generated by sneezes or someone running can travel up to 30 feet. Talking alone has been shown to generate respiratory droplets that could be infectious. If there is a fan or current generated in a closed space such as a restaurant, particles will also travel farther. This was shown in a paper from China: People in a restaurant downwind of an infected person became infected even though the distance was greater than 6 feet. The closer the distance and the greater the time someone is exposed to a person who is infectious, the greater the risk. If the servers wear masks, is that enough? If servers wear masks, that will afford a layer of protection, but customers eating and talking could still spread the virus. One way to mitigate that risk in this imperfect situation, at least from a public health point of view, would be to have tables surrounded by protective barriers, such as plexiglass or screens, or put tables in separate rooms with doors that can be closed. Some states are encouraging restaurants to limit each table to only one server who delivers everything. Restaurants could also screen guests before they enter, either with temperature checks or questions about symptoms and their close contacts with anyone recently diagnosed with COVID-19. It’s controversial, but restaurants in California have tried it. Washington state tried to require restaurants to record visitors’ contact information in case an outbreak is discovered, but it pulled back to only recommend doing so. It’s easier to screen employees. In fact, guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend restaurants have employee screening in place before they reopen. But while screening employees for possible infection could decrease risk, it’s important to remember that people can be infectious six days before they develop symptoms. That is why masks, eye protection, social distancing and hand hygiene are critical measures for preventing infection. Should I ask for disposable utensils and wipe everything down? Regular dishwashing of plates, glasses and utensils, and laundering of napkins and tablecloths, will inactivate the virus. No need for disposables here. The table should also be cleaned and disinfected between uses and marked as sanitized. Menus are a bit more problematic, depending on the material. Plastic menus could be disinfected. Disposable menus would be more ideal. Remember, even if someone touches a surface that has infectious virus, as long as they don’t touch their mouth, nose or eyes they should be safe. So, when in doubt, wash your hands or use hand sanitizer. Can I get the virus from food from the kitchen? The risk of becoming infected with the new coronavirus from food is very low. This is a respiratory virus whose primary mode of infection is accessing the upper or lower respiratory tract through droplets or aerosols entering your mouth, nose or eyes. It needs to enter the respiratory tract to cause infection, and it cannot do this by way of the stomach or intestinal tract. The virus also is not very stable in the environment. Studies have shown it loses half its viral concentration after less than an hour on copper, three and a half hours on cardboard and just under seven hours on plastic. If food were to be contaminated during preparation, cooking temperature would likely inactivate much if not all of the virus. The use of masks and maintaining good hand hygiene by food preparers should significantly reduce the risk of food contamination. Is outdoor seating or a drive-through any safer? Vulnerable people may want to pass on dine-in options and focus on pickup or perhaps outside dining if the conditions are appropriate. Drive-up windows or carry-out are probably the safest; transient interaction with one individual when everyone is wearing masks is a lower-risk situation. Overall, outside dining is safer than indoor dining with everything else being equal on a nonwindy day due to the larger air volume. Maintaining eye protection via glasses and intermittent mask use between bites and sips would further decrease the risk. Words by Thomas A. An expanded offering of Scottish and Japanese single-malt whiskies from world-renowned distilleries will also be featured. In addition, this sale marks the inaugural offering of premium sake from the revered Juyondai. In total, the auction will present over 660 lots to wine connoisseurs around the world. Live Auction: Geneva | Finest & Rarest Wines | 21 July 2020 Christie’s Geneva Finest & Rarest Wines live auction on 21 July has the pleasure to offer various private collections of mature Bordeaux and Burgundy from across Europe. Also, on offer is an exceptional private collection of rare 18th & 19th century Madeira, dating back to 1775 and 1789. Faja Malvasia Madeira, 1 bottle, 1775: Faja is an incomparable vineyard, located at the foot of a cliff on Madeira island and legendary for its Malvasia vines. This exceptional bottle was discovered in an old family house only last year (estimate: CHF 5,000-7,000) and tasted by Edwin Voss in January 2020 (from a second similar bottle). Tasting note: Intriguing intense rich nose of fudge, dried apricots and saffron spice, very gently singing from the glass. Subtle and multi-layered, each time you pick up your glass another palette of aromas presents itself. Great complexity and harmony. Unctuous first attack of taste, covering your palette with rich fruits, fresh shaved almonds and rhubarb aromas. The great acidity is nicely concentrated with a very good finish, showing a gentle touch of bitter. A complex wine of high quality. Fairly sweet and long cask aged. This is fantastic. The fine pretty grapefruit bitter is completing the phenomenal multidimensional aromas. A classic of the highest quality. Another highlight of the auction is J.L. Chave Hermitage Cuvée Cathelin Vertical, 6 bottles, of 1990, 1991, 1995, 1998, 2000, 2003, 2009 (estimate: CHF45,000-65,000). It is extremely rare to find a complete vertical of all vintages released between 1990 and 2003 of this very rare Cuvée Cathelin, which was launched for the first time in 1990 at only 2,500 bottles. The labels have been designed by the French artist Bernard Cathelin (1919-2004), a friend of the Chave family. The family released only a very small number of bottles of this exceptional cuvee, when the quality of the wine was at its best and therewith it became a vinous legend and trophy to possess. • What's Going On Between Tyler Cameron & Model Jilissa Ann Zoltko?

A summer romance may be starting to blossom in the sunshine state. Over the weekend, Bachelor Nation started talking once fan accounts spotted fan-favorite Tyler Cameron enjoying lunch with model Jilissa Ann Zoltko and riding in the same car together. And with the pair following each other on Instagram, eyebrows are being raised and questions are being asked as to whether or not Tyler found a special lady. So what's really going on between these two?! For now, it's far too early to say. "Tyler and Jilissa initially connected through social media. Tyler definitely showed interest in her and made a joke about coming out to Jupiter, Florida to visit him since she lives in Miami," a source shared with E! News exclusively. "Jilissa took him up on it and they have been hanging out these last few days."Our source describes it as "casual" but points out that the twosome is "definitely into each other." "They have been hanging out at his house with his friend Matt and have been doing normal things like going on the boat, going out to eat and hanging out at the house," our source shared. "Tyler and Jilissa have good chemistry and make each other laugh. There's a strong flirtation between them but Tyler doesn't want anything serious." For those wanting to learn more about Jilissa, the Miami resident's Instagram profile states she is a model and law student. And with more than 700,000 followers, it's safe to call her an influencer. Before fans start shipping this couple or making assumptions, we can't help but point out Tyler's interview on E!'s The Rundown back in May. When asked by Erin Lim why he's not jumping into the dating game, Tyler explained his mindset. "I am dating nobody right now,"he shared. "I've had a lot going on in my life lately. My mom passed. We have this whole quarantine going on, so who the heck can date right now?" He added, "My main goal right now is focusing on my little brothers, taking care of them and getting them where they need to be. I know I'll be able to get through all this, but my youngest brother… He's 20-years-old. He's a baby." Words by Mike Vulpo. Courtesy of E! News

April 9, 2021 LEDISI: NINA & ME Vocal Powerhouse Ledisi Honors the Legendary Singer Nina Simone Ledisi – Photo courtesy of Artist Management LEDISI: NINA & ME originally premiered with two sold-out performances at The Kennedy Center with the National Symphony Orchestra, followed by a sold-out show at the Apollo Theatre to a roaring standing ovation. Now presented for Miami audiences by the Arsht Center, “Nina and Me” is a beautifully orchestrated mixture of classical, jazz and rhythm & blues sounds with a riveting narrative of the musical bond between an artist from one era influenced by a legend from the past. LEDISI returns to her roots in jazz while honoring one of her greatest inspirations, the brilliant NINA SIMONE, the celebrated American singer, songwriter, musician, arranger, and civil rights activist. Simone’s music spanned a broad range of musical styles including classical, jazz, blues, folk, R&B, gospel, and pop. Known as the “High Priestess of Soul,” Simone is regarded as one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. LEDISI is a 12-time Grammy-nominated vocal powerhouse who has wowed fans ever since she came onto the music scene more than 20 years ago, earning a place in the pantheon of the best soul singers of her generation. Ledisi has performed nine times at the White House, headlined two national sold-out tours, and shared the stage with Richie Sambora, Dave Matthews, and Kelly Clarkson, as well as jazz greats like Herbie Hancock. In 2015 she landed a role in the Oscar-nominated movie Selma portraying Mahalia Jackson. Ledisi is not only a singer and actress, she’s an author, playwright, film producer and now CEO of her record label Chinweya Entertainment. • Travel to Italy to Experience Maserati's Master Driving Courses

The 21st season of the Master Maserati driving courses begins, with a complete offering of sporty driving courses. In fact, this year the Master Maserati calendar includes a total of 7 events (with various formats) at the Varano de’ Melegari circuit in Northern Italy from July 3 to October 23, 2020. The Master Maserati driving courses have adopted specific preventive measures and special protocols to minimize any health risks during the activities and to enable customers to enjoy themselves in conditions of the greatest safety. Courses are run in partnership with the Scuderia de Adamich, whose pool of instructors has been further expanded this year to over 100 worldwide. Scuderia de Adamich has been a partner and coordinator of the Master Maserati driving courses since 1999, and thanks to this strong, enduring relationship, has been able to  refine various methodologies and multiple courses over time. Starting this year, Master Maserati driving courses offer no fewer than five different formats. Four types of courses focus on circuit driving at the “Riccardo Paletti” track at Varano de’ Melegari. They are tailored for varying levels of proficiency and take place under the watchful eye of fully qualified racing drivers. The 2020 edition sees the introduction of a special addition for companions, with packages of one or two days (depending on the chosen format) with a customized program at the nearby Fidenza Village luxury shopping centre located just outside Parma. Since 1999, a total of more than 550 Master Maserati driving courses have been held, with more than 700 days on the circuit. Over 7,000 clients from more than 50 different countries have taken the wheel of the different models, with a particularly large proportion (32%) of non-European Maserati fans, from Asian countries and the United States of America above all. The Varano de’ Melegari circuit is located in the Northern Italian Province of Parma within the Emilia-Romagna region approximately 110 kilometres (68 mi) west of Bologna and about 30 kilometres (19 mi) southwest of Parma. Over these twenty years, about 30 different Maserati models have been used, and for 2020, the high-performance 580 hp Levante Trofeo V8 will join the pool of vehicles being used.
