  • Pérez Art Museum Miami: Don't Miss the Opening of 'Calida Rawles: Away with the Tides'

Join us for a panel conversation in celebration of the opening of Calida Rawles’s first museum solo exhibition, Away with the Tides. Rawles's work engages with Miami’s water-entwined climate and dives into the history of beauty, oppression, and resilience in PAMM’s neighboring community of Overtown and the waterways of historic Virginia Key Beach. The panel will open with the screening of a short documentary, “Wade in the Water,” by Cathleen Dean, setting the tone for a discussion around the visual exploration of Black people’s relationship to water and Rawles’s envisioning of water as a space for Black healing. Following the short film, artist Calida Rawles, filmmaker Cathleen Dean, and Overtown community leader and life-long resident Trina Harris, will engage in a lively conversation moderated by Chire “Vanta Black” Regans, a South Florida-based visual artist and community advocate. Before the conversation, view the new exhibition in the galleries and celebrate on the terrace from 5–7pm with happy hour and live jazz to celebrate the rich musical roots of our neighbors in Overtown. Scholl Lecture Series Calida Rawles: Away with the Tides Thursday, June 27 7pm About Calida Rawles: Away with the Tides Calida Rawles envisions water as a space for Black healing and reimagines the African American community beyond the stories we already know as a part of the United States’ collective history. Merging hyperrealism, poetic abstraction, and the cultural and historical symbolisms of water, Rawles creates unique portraits of Black bodies submerged in and interacting with bright and mysterious bodies of water. The water, itself a sort of character within the paintings, functions as an element that signifies both physical and spiritual healing, as well as historical trauma and racial exclusion. For her first museum solo presentation, Rawles creates a bridge between her signature style and a story within Miami’s history that is often ignored and obscured. Rawles delves into the particular experience of Black people in Overtown, a Miami neighborhood that went from a thriving cultural and commercial hub for Black people to a subject of gentrification, systemic racism, and mass displacement. The figures in Rawles’s paintings are residents of the Overtown community—from young children to senior citizens. The exhibition’s focus is on the stories and experiences of those who live in this historic, once bustling neighborhood. Rawles takes her practice a step further by photographing some of her subjects in natural waters for the very first time, at the historic Virginia Key Beach, which was once racially segregated. By photographing Black subjects in the ocean for the first time, Rawles is able to probe the Atlantic’s history as the site of the supremely exploitative transatlantic slave trade. The finished work critically engages with Miami’s water-entwined climate and mines the history of beauty, oppression, and resilience in PAMM’s neighboring community of Overtown. • Restricted Phone Calls: Everything You Need To Know

Billions of phone calls are made daily, and many of those calls are made by robocalls, spammers, or telemarketers. While caller ID makes it easy to see who's calling you, people have started to hide their caller ID. This can be done through number spoofing, apps, and even vertical service codes. Unfortunately, this can make it difficult to know who's calling you. Plus, people usually don't hide their phone numbers unless something suspicious is going on. Image by tete_escape / Adobestock While you may feel defenseless against calls with no caller ID, we’re here to help. This article takes you through what a restricted phone call is and how you should approach them. In fact, we even have methods to reveal the phone number. Read on to learn more. What Is A Restricted Phone Call? Restricted phone calls are phone calls that don't have caller ID per the request of the user. Individuals and businesses can mask their phone number and when their call reaches your device it will appear as something like no caller ID, private, unknown, or restricted. Unfortunately, you won't know who's on the other line until you unmask the caller or contact them. Why People Or Businesses Use Restricted Phone Calls People and businesses use restricted phone calls for many reasons. While it may feel like every restricted number is a robocaller or scammer, this isn't always the case. In fact, some companies will make these types of calls to improve their security and prevent people from calling them back. We list some of the most common reasons for restricted phone calls below: Companies focusing on privacy Debt collection agencies trying to collect debt Lawyers wanting to remain anonymous Private investigators remaining anonymous Scammers People who spoof phone numbers Robocallers Due to the range of people who may call you with a restricted number, it's important to know who's calling. How To Unmask Restricted Phone Calls Unmasking restricted phone calls can be challenging if you don't know where to start. While you won't have any initial caller ID to work with, that doesn't mean you’re out of luck. We have a two-pronged method that will help you unmask most restricted phone numbers. This involves using a vertical service code and a reverse phone lookup tool. Use a Vertical Service Code (VSC) to Identify the Restricted Phone Number The best method to Unmask a restricted phone number is to use a vertical service code. In fact, it's likely that someone used one of these codes to hide their number. Therefore, why not use the same code to unmask the caller? The two codes you'll need for this to work include the 69 and 57 codes. Entering these codes after someone calls, you will call the caller back, which can reveal their number. If you’re not having luck with these codes, you can contact your phone provider for more information. Use a Reverse Phone Lookup Tool to Identify the Owner of the Restricted Phone Call Once you know who called you, it's important to learn more about the caller. You can do this with ease when you have the right tools, which is where UnMask’s reverse phone lookup tool comes into play. With a tool like this, you can enter the phone number of the caller into the tool and learn everything about them. Once you enter the phone number, UnMask compiles a full report of the information associated with that phone number. This includes the following information about a caller: Name Phone number or alternate phone numbers Address and location of the caller Email addresses While you can find the phone number by speaking with someone or using a vertical service code, you'll have to use a reverse address lookup tool if you want to learn more about the identity of the caller. Image by Prathankarnpap / Adobestock Stop Restricted Phone Calls Today Whenever you receive a phone call, it is important to know who's on the other line. While most phone calls aren't malicious, people who hide their caller ID and appear as a restricted phone number can be dangerous to speak with. They may be after your credit card information or even your identity. Thankfully, tools like UnMask and vertical service codes can help you stop restricted phone calls dead in their tracks. When used together, you can unmask any caller, discover other numbers they may use, and even block them. By ML Staff. Images courtesy of Adobestock

  • NFL Star Terron Armstead on Life in Miami

Welcome to an exclusive glimpse into the dynamic life of Terron Armstead, one of the newer sensations to grace the Miami Dolphins lineup.  Renowned for his exceptional athleticism, Terron has been a standout presence in the NFL since his debut in 2013 with the New Orleans Saints, and since joining the Dolphins as an offensive lineman in March 2022.  Little do many know that Terron Armstead is not just an NFL star; he's a lifestyle enthusiast, fashion aficionado, and a connoisseur of fine art. His life in Miami reflects the city's vibrant energy, cultural diversity, and luxurious lifestyle, seamlessly blending his passions with the lively spirit of the Magic City. In this exclusive interview with Miami Living Magazine, Terron shares insights into his personal style, favorite Miami haunts, and passion for art, offering readers a deeper understanding of the man behind the jersey and his indelible imprint on Miami's sizzling lifestyle scene. ML: Terron, it’s an honor to have you with us today. Your transition from the New Orleans Saints to the Miami Dolphins marks an exciting new chapter in your career. How does it feel to bring your talents to Miami? TERRON: It has been an honor and a blessing to have continued my career from New Orleans to Miami.  The Dolphins organization, the city, the team, all welcomed me with open arms.  Such a seamless transition that it has been truly amazing being a part of this organization.  Coming in with Mike McDaniel and his regime has been special.  It’s a great place to be, a great energy and environment, I couldn’t be more happy with where I am. ML: Miami is known for its vibrant energy and diverse culture. How do you think living in Miami has influenced your personal style and overall lifestyle? TERRON: Miami does have so much culture and history influence.  So I definitely have been paying attention to the diversity that this city has, and I’ve been finding ways to tie into my personal style and add some Miami flavor into my style.  Just more of the linens, the silks, the button downs.  I try to be diverse and versatile with my style anyway, so just adding that Miami flavor really enhances everything. ML:  Over the years, we've seen your style evolve both on and off the field, your fashion choices often making headlines for their innovation and boldness. How has your fashion journey paralleled your growth as an athlete and as an individual?  Could you share some of your go-to wardrobe staples and how you incorporate them into your everyday look? TERRON: I think that just evolving and growing as a man, as a person, as a professional throughout my career, there has been a lot of parallel and similarities on the field.  You get and you gain more interest in things, you put more thought into things as you play for so long, you try to keep everything new, fresh, revolutionary.  And the same with fashion. I used to love watching football as a youngster, and watch the players pull up in their suits.  Deion Sanders was famous for the "look good, play good" mantra.  So I got into the suits more.  I started working with this company out in New Orleans Lavoisier, and just working with multiple brands in general, trying to not be so trendy but instead create my own trends.  Especially for a big guy, it’s always been challenging for big guys to find fashionable attire.  So I love to put it on, I love to represent for the big guys and let them know that we can get stylish and fashionable as well. ML: Living in Miami offers a unique lifestyle experience. How do you make the most of your time off the field? Whether it's a favorite spot for a morning cafecito, a hidden gem for sunset views, or a must-visit art gallery, we'd love to hear about your favorite Miami haunts. TERRON: Miami has so many hidden gems, and so many that are not so hidden as well. So many popular locations, events, just so much to it that people come down to Miami all the time.  It’s like the biggest attraction in the United States.  When I used to visit Miami before I started living here, I would hit the popular spots more.  I would go to South Beach and Brickell a lot.  But now that I'm living here, I’m a local now, so the small cafes, the mall, I have my favorite restaurant, it’s in Fort Lauderdale, it’s called Takato.  I am really close with their general manager, and that’s my spot.  Not too many people know about Takato, but I put it up there with Sexy Fish, Delilah, Papi Steak, and Prime 112 for sure.  Miami has so many spots. ML: Your passion for exclusive art is well-known, your home collection being a testament to your exquisite taste. Can you take us on a virtual tour of your art collection? What draws you to certain pieces, and how do you feel they complement your living space? TERRON: When it comes to art, I have more recently grown an eye for and interest in art and collectibles and unique pieces.  I would say collectibles are probably more of my lane right now, and I’m still learning more about paintings and different historic pictures.  I visited Paris earlier this off-season, where I was able to see the Mona Lisa and all these monumental pieces, and it really just drew me more in and I want to learn more about art pieces before putting them in my home.  But as far as the collectibles, the Bear Brick, the Kaws, those are probably the two I have the most of, and it really complements my home very well. ML: Miami is renowned for its diverse culinary scene. As a self-proclaimed foodie, what are some of your favorite local dishes or restaurants? How do you balance indulgence with maintaining peak physical condition as an athlete? TERRON: I covered my favorite spot in an earlier answer, so I will mostly tailor this answer to the second part of this question.  It can be challenging with so many amazing cuisines down here and types of food and cultures.  From Jamaican to Cuban, Italian, the Hispanic scene; it’s incredible.  So you definitely have to be disciplined and be a professional.  I’ve been in the league going on 12 years now, so you’ve got to have that balance.  I love to go out and hit different restaurants and try new food, but it’s all about not overdoing it and being a professional, sticking to your routine the best way you can.  I have a personal chef, Ronnie King, and he is incredible.  He keeps me exactly where I need to be.  He is a top chef.  He is the man.  I can’t express that enough. ML: The city comes alive after dark with its legendary nightlife scene. Do you have any favorite spots to unwind and enjoy a night out? TERRON: Back when I was visiting Miami, before I became a Dolphins player and a resident here, I was here for more of the restaurants and the nightlife, much more than I am now.  So you have the popular spots like LIV on Sunday.  But now what I hit are the restaurants that transitioned into more of a lounge type vibe, so you got Komodo, Victory, Takato even - the spot I spoke about earlier as my favorite restaurant, which is right on the beach and it’s beautiful.  Playa Miami is one on the South Beach side that has a restaurant in it that transitions into a more lounge environment.  Those are the spots I like to visit. ML: Taking all of the above into account, what is your favorite thing about living in Miami? TERRON: That’s very hard to say because it’s a combination of things.  There are so many perks and benefits to being here, there really are no complaints.  The weather, the energy, the environment, the culture, the history, the diversity, there is so much to enjoy, so much to do, so much to learn, it’s almost impossible to pinpoint a #1.  I can say my team of course: being a Miami Dolphin is incredible, it’s a dream come true.  It’s just a whole combination of things that I just feel very honored and blessed to be here and be a part of this city.  It’s been incredible. • Bitcoin Adoption Accelerates, But 2024 Price Targets Carry Speculation Risks

Bitcoin has been on a remarkable upward trajectory in recent weeks, with its price surging above the $60,000 mark amidst ongoing turmoil in the traditional banking sector. As concerns mount over the stability of major financial institutions, many investors are turning to Bitcoin as a potential hedge against systemic risks. According to reports from leading cryptocurrency news outlets like CoinDesk and CoinTelegraph, the cryptocurrency's perceived status as a decentralized and scarce digital asset is driving increased demand. While once viewed as a niche investment, Bitcoin is gaining mainstream acceptance and institutional interest. Major firms and investment funds are exploring ways to gain exposure to the world's largest cryptocurrency, though specific entities cannot be named. This growing institutional adoption is seen as a key driver of Bitcoin's recent bull run and its potential for future growth. This article will delve into the latest Bitcoin news, exploring the factors fueling its momentum, as well as providing an in-depth analysis of the Bitcoin 2024 price target put forth by analysts and industry experts. By relying on verified sources and factual data, we aim to offer a comprehensive and unbiased look at the cryptocurrency's prospects for the coming year. Bitcoin's adoption and developments El Salvador continues with its ambitious plans to fully integrate Bitcoin into its economy. The Central American nation recently announced its intention to issue $1 billion in Bitcoin-backed bonds, according to official statements from President Nayib Bukele's office. The funds raised will be used to establish a "Bitcoin City" and invest in more Bitcoin mining infrastructure, as reported by reputable news outlets like Reuters and the Associated Press. On the mining front, Bitcoin's network has reached record levels of mining difficulty, indicating a surge in the computational power dedicated to securing the blockchain. Data from trusted blockchain explorers like Blockchain.com shows the mining difficulty recently hit an all-time high above 37 trillion, underscoring the growing competition among miners. As Bitcoin gains traction, central banks around the world are also exploring the potential of central bank digital currencies (CBDCs). Research from the Bank of International Settlements suggests CBDCs could coexist with cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, with each serving different use cases. The European Central Bank has also acknowledged Bitcoin's role in the future digital economy in its published reports. Beyond nation-states, mainstream companies and institutions are making inroads into the Bitcoin ecosystem. From payment processors to investment firms, an increasing number of major players are exploring ways to capitalize on the cryptocurrency's growing adoption and popularity. Price targets for 2024 As Bitcoin's mainstream adoption accelerates, analysts and investment firms are setting increasingly bullish price targets for the cryptocurrency in 2024. A research report published by Standard Chartered in April projects Bitcoin could stay at around $50,000 by the end of 2024, driven by growing institutional demand and the potential integration of central bank digital currencies. On the more ambitious end of the spectrum, Cathie Wood, CEO of ARK Invest, has repeatedly stated her firm's $500,000 price target for Bitcoin by 2024. In a recent interview with Bloomberg, Wood reiterated her bold prediction, citing Bitcoin's potential to become "the institutional asset class" and a global settlement network. Cryptocurrency investment firm Pantera Capital has also weighed in, forecasting Bitcoin to hit $115,000 by August 2024 in their latest research note. This projection is based on the firm's stock-to-flow model, which factors in the upcoming halving event that will reduce new Bitcoin supply. "The effects of diminishing supply and increasing demand could drive Bitcoin towards $115,000 in the next 18 months," stated Paul Veradittakit, Partner at Pantera Capital. Looking further ahead, Bloomberg Intelligence analyst Mike McGlone sees Bitcoin reaching $100,000 by 2025 according to his latest commodity report. McGlone believes the cryptocurrency's growing adoption as a digital store of value, coupled with institutional inflows, will propel its price to six figures within the next few years. It's important to note that these projections are based on various assumptions and models, and actual Bitcoin prices may diverge significantly from the targets set by analysts and firms. As with any investment, thorough research and an understanding of the risks involved is essential. Risks and considerations While the potential Bitcoin price targets for 2024 paint an enticing picture, it's crucial to understand their speculative nature. Bitcoin has historically exhibited extreme volatility, with prices swinging wildly in short periods of time, as evidenced by research from the University of Cambridge. Regulatory uncertainties also loom large, with governments worldwide grappling with how to treat cryptocurrencies. The European Union's recent Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulation highlights the evolving and unpredictable regulatory landscape. Regardless of the optimistic projections, investors must conduct thorough research and carefully consider their risk tolerance before allocating funds to Bitcoin or any other cryptocurrency. The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) has cautioned investors about the risks associated with digital assets, stressing the importance of understanding the products before investing. For those considering Bitcoin investments, seeking professional financial advice is highly recommended. As stated by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), "Investors should understand the risks and consider their investment objectives and risk tolerance before investing." Ultimately, the latest news points to growing adoption and ambitious price targets for 2024, ranging from $50,000 to as high as $500,000. However, the inherent volatility and speculative nature of cryptocurrencies necessitate caution and due diligence. Expert guidance emphasizes the importance of thorough research and risk assessment before investing. By ML staff. Images courtesy of Unsplash.

  • What Type of Background Checks Are Best For My Needs?

Background checks are an essential part of the hiring process for both private companies and government organizations. These are done to verify the information of the candidate and are usually conducted as the last stage of the hiring process. Image by Michael Burrows / Pexels Many think criminal background checks and background checks are interchangeable, but that isn't true. Background checks include various components, and a criminal records check is a part of it. A background check gathers more information beyond criminal records to verify who the candidate is and their information. This article will list different types of background checks and provide a brief explanation of what each of them includes. Different Types Of Background Checks Below, you'll find six of the background check types. However, note that what your background check consists of may vary depending on your authorization and legal regulations. Criminal Records Criminal records are one of the most common types of background checks. Since employers will want to know if the person they're hiring has a criminal history, it's also one of the most extensive. Due to the weight criminal records carry for the hiring process, it will include everything available about the individual's criminal history from federal, state, and local sources. However, some charges and offenses may not appear because state regulations limit how far background check agencies can investigate. There are also similar federal regulations, but it doesn't cover criminal records – more on that for other types of background checks. Image by Andrey_Popov / Shutterstock Identity Verification Identity verification is yet another critical type of background check for employers. It enables employers to ensure the person applying for the job is who they say they are. Identity verification involves comparing the person's Social Security Number with records such as financial and legal documents. If there are any inconsistencies, they will be flagged in the background check. Employment History Employment background checks verify the candidate's work experience. These background checks are conducted through private and public sources, and the background check service provider may even contact previous employers to verify their information. If the candidate has lied on their resume, claiming that they worked at a company, it will come up on the employment background check. This type of background check also verifies the duration the individual has worked, allowing the employer to be sure of the candidate's qualifications. Education Verification Educational credentials and qualifications are highly important for most roles. Therefore, education verification is a critical background check type. This type of background check ensures a potential candidate has graduated from the college or university they say on their resume. However, it can go beyond that. Background check companies are also able to verify the training the candidate has undergone throughout their education and the certifications received. If there is any discrepancy, it will be flagged in the background check. Since financial services companies want their employees to have good finances, financial background checks include various details, from tax liens paid to bankruptcy filings. Although a comprehensive type of background check, the Fair Credit Reporting Act limits how far back background check providers can look on financial background checks. For example, they can only go as far back as ten years for bankruptcy filings and seven years for collection accounts. Driving Records If the position requires operating a work vehicle, driving records (Motor Vehicle Report) are essential for employers. It verifies the candidate's driver's license and shows traffic violations, driving-related criminal convictions, and license suspensions. Like the financial background checks, states may have restrictions on how far back the background check company can look at driving records. Therefore, information outside the allowed period by the state won't appear in the background check. Run All Types Of Background Checks There are various types of background checks, but (luckily) you don't need to deal with multiple background check companies. You can run all types of background checks on USPeopleSearch and get a comprehensive report on all the points. The best part is all you need is a name, address, email, or phone number to get started. You can also run a background check on yourself through USPeopleSearch to know what information is available to background check providers. By ML Staff. Images courtesy of Shutterstock & Pexels
