  • Florida Gaming Regulator Directs BetUS and Others to Exit State

Image by Tarik Haiga / Unsplash The Florida Gaming Control Commission (FGCC) has taken firm action against offshore gambling platforms, instructing BetUS, Bovada, and MyBookie to halt their operations in the state. These online betting sites have been accused of breaching Florida’s stringent gambling laws by providing unauthorized sports betting and casino gaming. The FGCC stated that these platforms facilitate wagers on various sports events, horse racing, and specialized betting markets that fall outside the scope of state law. The commission reiterated that Florida law forbids wagering on contests involving skill, speed, or endurance featuring humans or animals unless explicitly permitted. This enforcement move underscores Florida’s determination to regulate its gaming industry, ensuring that only sanctioned operators can serve local players. By issuing cease-and-desist letters, the FGCC seeks to reaffirm its stance against unauthorized gambling while preventing these platforms from continuing their services within state boundaries. Despite the FGCC’s orders, Florida bettors still have access to alternative options. Offshore platforms like TG Casino  continue to cater to local players, offering diverse betting experiences, including crypto-based wagering, attractive bonuses, and extensive tournament prize pools. Since these platforms operate beyond U.S. jurisdiction, they are not bound by state laws, making them an appealing choice for bettors seeking a broader range of options. Many players turn to offshore platforms for competitive odds, a wider selection of games, and promotional incentives that state-approved operators may not offer. While Florida provides legal gambling avenues such as state-regulated casinos and the Hard Rock Bet sportsbook, offshore sites remain a popular alternative for those looking for more variety. Floridians determined to place online wagers will likely continue utilizing these international platforms, which serve a global audience. Florida maintains a tightly regulated  gambling industry, with only a select number of licensed gaming establishments permitted to operate. Ross Marshman, Executive Director of the FGCC, reinforced the state's position by noting that Florida has just 14 authorized slot machine operations. These include eight state-licensed venues and six tribal casinos managed by the Seminole Tribe. In addition, Hard Rock Bet stands as the only legally sanctioned online sportsbook in Florida. The FGCC maintains that restricting gambling to regulated entities is crucial for consumer protection and for maximizing state tax revenue. Licensed gaming operators function under strict guidelines to promote responsible gambling, ensure fair play, and contribute directly to Florida’s economy. The economic impact of Florida’s regulated gaming sector is substantial. In 2024, tax revenues from state-approved gambling operations contributed over $240 million to the Educational Enhancement Trust Fund. Moreover, revenue-sharing payments from the Seminole Tribe are expected to exceed $2.5 billion within the next five years. These funds are vital in supporting state programs, reinforcing the case for keeping gambling within licensed operations. The FGCC’s latest enforcement efforts highlight Florida’s dedication to protecting this revenue stream while maintaining a well-regulated market. Nonetheless, Florida has long been home to a vibrant community of gaming enthusiasts, and the recent regulatory crackdown is unlikely to diminish that enthusiasm. Just recently, several Florida residents secured significant winnings through the state’s lottery, further emphasizing the state’s deep-rooted gaming culture. For example, two men each won a $1 million prize in separate games. Preston Legge from Winter Park won $1 million in the Year for Life game, opting for a lump sum payout of $640,000. Meanwhile, Charles Grissett purchased a $30 scratch-off ticket at a Publix store and claimed a $1 million prize , choosing a lump sum payment of $695,500 after taxes. These winners highlight how integral gambling is to Florida’s culture. Many residents regularly take part in the state lottery, visit local casinos, and engage in sports betting when legally available. Whether through lottery tickets, casino games, or sports wagers, the appetite for gambling remains strong. By ML Staff. Image courtesy of Unsplash

  • The Architecture of Florida's Most Lavish Hotels

Few states in the US are as known for their entertainment industry as Florida, and at the center of the action are some of the world's most architecturally striking hotels and casino resorts that a couple of decades ago would have been considered sci-fi. Beyond lavish lodging, these buildings are also instant landmarks that attract visitors from across the world just to see them. Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino (image by Ainbinder / Pexels) So let’s check out the most significant hotel designs in Florida, and learn a little bit about them. 1. Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, Hollywood Probably the most iconic on the list, Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida, is the world's first guitar-shaped hotel, one that was imagined by Steve Peck  of Klai Juba Wald Architecture, and well-worthy of a postcard. This 450-foot-tall marvel was built in 2019 after nearly a decade of planning and development. Its eccentric shape is meant to recall the iconic instrument, reflecting the Hard Rock brand's deep relationship affair with music. The hotel features an awe-inspiring LED light installation on its front, making it a living visual spectacle to behold during the night.Speaking of Hollywood, for those who do not want to travel all the way to Florida to have the experience can also enjoy the games from the confort of their homes, with the Hollywood Casino Promo Code , offering cashback to the new users. 2. The Casino @ Dania Beach Located in Dania Beach, with its creative name, The Casino @ Dania Beach is a modern casino development by F3 Architecture.  While not a traditional hotel, it offers a blend of gaming and entertainment in a rehabilitated Jai Alai court building. The structure features a unified modern exterior facade with an emphasis on efficiency and aesthetics.  This project also represents the excellent compromise between historic preservation and innovative design, becoming an example for the region. Image by Elizabeth Ferreira / Pexels 3. Hotel Alcazar, St. Augustine Carrère and Hastings' Hotel Alcazar was constructed in 1888 as a component of Henry Flagler 's St. Augustine dream, still retaining the design it did from the beginning, to this day. The Alcazar, like its parent, began as a recreational adjunct to the Hotel Ponce de Leon but took on a life of its own as an independent luxury resort. The Alcazar was distinguished by its experimental use of poured concrete and highly ornamented terracotta detail. Though it closed as a hotel in 1931, its architectural influence continues to be notable. 4. Fontainebleau Miami Beach Not strictly a casino hotel, the Fontainebleau Miami Beach is a legendary resort that features high-roller gaming tournaments with regularity. Opened in 1954 and designed by Morris Lapidus , it is renowned for its lavish interior design that weds modernism and theatrics. Lapidus's strategy in crafting an "architecture of emotion" has rendered the Fontainebleau an iconic spot for luxury and entertainment. Image by Mohamed HAKIM / Pexels 5. The Diplomat Beach Resort, Hollywood Not a casino hotel by definition, The Diplomat Beach Resort in Hollywood, Florida, is an upscale resort with quite a modern flair. Even though lacking a casino, it's still often included in the conversation of Florida's best resorts because it's near the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino and has entertainment spaces of its own.  Overall, the resorts we mentioned embody Florida's vibrant spirit of innovation and creativity in design, bringing in the most creative architects and pushing the designs and building technology further. These architectural marvels attract a significant portion of the millions of visitors who flock to Florida each year. In 2024, the state welcomed a record-breaking 142.9 million visitors, with a substantial number drawn to the unique experiences offered by these resorts. By blending historical charm, luxurious amenities, and cutting-edge entertainment, these hotels cater to diverse interests, ensuring that every guest finds something special, contributing to Florida's status as a premier destination for travelers seeking both rest and excitement. • Everything You Need to Know About Fishing for Peacock Bass in Miami, Florida

Anyone who’s shown an interest in moving from a temperate fish tank to a tropical aquarium will have made note of the glorious cichlid family  of fish. With over 1,300 species, many of them make for incredibly eye-catching and characterful additions to a tank. However, not all cichlids are suitable for your home aquarium, being far too big and aggressive in their feeding habits to suit. One of these cichlids is the peacock bass. Originally from the basins of the Amazon and Orinoco, they were brought to the more tropical waters of Florida to deal with another species. Now, the fish also known as the pavon or tucunaré is one of the most popular fish to catch for sport. They’re numerous in parts of the Everglades, as well as the waterways of Broward County and Miami. Here’s a look at why they’re so popular and how to catch them. Bass Fishing, But Not Really Image by schaerfsystem / Pixabay Bass fishing is wildly popular, and while peacock bass aren’t bass in any sense, they do have a kind of superficial similarity to the iconic fish and behave in a way that’s reminiscent of the pursuit of landing a real bass fish. After all, bass became the go-to, even the iconic freshwater fish to catch because of their aggressive feeding, response to an array of lure and methods, and willingness to battle on the line. Catching a bass is a thrilling experience, filled with surprises and sudden successes. It’s because of this that it’s even become an icon of entertainment. Not only is there the televised Bass Fishing Series and Texas Team Trail, but the bass has essentially become the brand of top-class online fishing slots. Among the most popular and the newest slot games , you’ll always see a bass slot, often with the iconic fish leaping out of the water on the game tile. With games like Big Bass Amazon Extreme, Bass Boss, Bad Bass, and Area Blast Double Bass, it’s clear that the popular angle is the battle with the bass. This is even true in the games, where you need to land some bass symbols to trigger the big-hit features and catch some prizes! This lends the cichlid peacock bass to anglers and the common naming as they’re very aggressive, fight hard on the line, and go all-in on just about any shimmer. Catching A Peacock Bass Image by Richard Sagredo / Unsplash As noted, the South American peacock bass is prevalent in certain spots of Florida, including the bodies of freshwater in and around Miami. There are also hotspots in the Everglades and around Broward County. In Miami, the Tamiami Canals system is teeming with peacock bass, and many flock to Snapper Creek, targeting rocky parts, fallen trees, any kind of underwater construction, and in shadowy spots, such as under bridges. It’s key to keep in mind that peacock bass don’t feed at night, so you’ll always be heading out in the morning for a day on the water. According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, peacock bass also prefer live fish or lures that imitate live fish, such as live shiners , but on the canals, a light spinning tackle is your best choice. As for the time of year, you’ll find increased activity from February to May with the rise in temperatures. Fishing for peacock bass is a thrilling experience, particularly because the strike rate in Miami is so high! Now that the days are warming, it’s the perfect time to get a rod and reel and see if you can reel in some of these battle-ready fish! By ML Staff. Images courtesy of Pixabay & Unsplash

  • The Community Foundation of Broward Celebrated its 2025 Legacy Society Luncheon on Feb. 27

The  Community Foundation of Broward  embarked on its by-invitation-only 2025 Legacy Society Luncheon on Thursday, Feb. 27, at Bahia Mar Fort Lauderdale Beach. South Florida’s top community leaders, philanthropists and influencers were among the guests who sailed through the years with the Community Foundation of Broward. The annual event honors the Community Foundation of Broward’s Legacy Society members, visionaries who believe in the power of endowment to change lives and transform the community they call home. By including the Community Foundation of Broward in their estate plans, they create a legacy of BOLD impact that spans generations and defines Broward’s future. During the event, guests aboard experienced a blessing and heard an impact story from Rabbi Chaim Slavaticki of the Las Olas Chabad Jewish Center and Friendship Circle. Guests heard anecdotes from Kenny Tate, the owner of Bahia Mar and Community Foundation of Broward Fundholder. Surrounded by a gathering of the community’s most impactful philanthropists, it was an afternoon night of  sail-ebration.    The Legacy Society was started in 2000 with just 19 members and gift commitments totaling $2 million. Today, the Legacy Society is nearly 196 members strong with more than $462 million in promises. The grants awarded through endowed charitable funds created through legacy gifts total nearly $67 million. That’s $67 million of direct positive impact on Broward, and lots of lives changed. Those funds will continue generating new grant dollars every year – forever. The impact will never end.  “Legacy Society members are visionaries whose estate plans include charitable giving through the Community Foundation to ensure that Broward’s future remains bright and full of possibility,” said Community Foundation President/CEO Jennifer O’Flannery Anderson, Ph.D. “We are honored to be their philanthropy partner, safeguarding their endowed gifts so that their legacy of community impact never ends.”  Presently, the Foundation shepherds 571 charitable funds, and over 40 years, it has provided nearly $200 million in support of student achievement, the arts, career readiness, seniors in need, HIV/AIDs prevention, equity and social justice, environmental resilience, health care, mental health, affordable housing, disaster relief, nonprofit empowerment and much more in Broward County. All grants are made possible by the dedicated fundholders who partner with the Foundation to create charitable funds to fuel their philanthropy.
