  • Villa OASIS in Miami: Tropical High Standard by Manuel Ruiz

Manuel Ruiz presents Villa OASIS in Miami: the tropical high standard project that captures the essence of the Mediterranean. The latest project of the international firm ARK Architects is located at one of the most exclusive areas of the United States, Miami Beach. Named as Villa OASIS, it is a high standard residence integrated into the tropical landscape of Miami, which carries the signature of Manuel Ruiz Moriche, known as “the architect of nature and light”. A minimalist, modern and innovative Villa that integrates palm trees in its construction and strengths the features of the area, although it does not forget reminiscent of Mediterranean light and nature. The project embraces the climate of the place where it is located merging with the water that surrounds it. It opens into a large loft-like space that dialogues with the interior gardens and views of the harbor and sea. A sustainable and efficient residence with the highest design to enjoy a unique environment in a place of the features of the area, although it does not forget reminiscent of Mediterranean light and nature. The project embraces the climate of the place where it is located merging with the water that surrounds it. It opens into a large loft-like space that dialogues with the interior gardens and views of the harbor and sea. A sustainable and efficient residence with the highest design to enjoy a unique environment in a place of world reference. Topping off the entire project with a travertine skin, a magnificent garden, an infinity swimming pool, and it has the privilege of a own wharf. This villa has been built in harmony with the landscape and nature on the area in which is located, as in every project of Manuel Ruiz, creative director of ARK Architects. The significance of the sea, as one of the attractive elements of the area, is present at the design, as many interior and exterior rooms have privileged ocean views. Villa OASIS, located on an island, keeps an ideal relationship between all the elements: water, light, beach, humidity, nature and the relaxed lifestyle, making people feel as if they were in a true oasis or peace and relax. Like all of the firm's projects, Villa Oasis has also used limited, sustainable and local materials in the construction. This is not the first project that ARK Architects has developed in the United States, a country in which it already has a long history. Another recent example is Villa Hamptons: a neoclassical house, that combine this style with a modern architectural perspective. Miami Beach, in Florida (USA) is an area characterized by "postcard" landscapes, a warm and humid climate, tropical colors and coral reefs, making it one of the most popular places in the area. Therefore, ARK Architects wanted to make breath and feel the strength and magnetism of the sea, as well as its views of soft sand and green landscapes to create a perfect symbiosis between their villas built with sustainable materials and the magic of the Florida landscape. In the words of Manuel R: Moriche, this project "is delimited by a structure of orthogonal plots in the area of the Miami islands, determining a place that has its own DNA and conditions us". Therefore, "we have assumed that it must establish a balance between the existing elements: water, light, beach, humidity, nature and a relaxed and high standard lifestyle". All these elements are bonded in a Villa turned into art and a tribute to this way of life of the islands of Miami: crystal clear beaches, golden sand views, as well as lush and wild nature. This villa represents the soul of Miami, bringing, at the same time, the essence of the Mediterranean days and nights. Combining all these concepts, Manuel Ruiz Moriche’s proposal was, once again, a breakthrough in an environment of white architecture, creating simple and precise lines. The international firm ARK Architects distinguishes itself by designing and building exclusive villas, from the first idea to the last detail. That’s why, each home is unique and personalized. In this project, as in so many others carried out in Spain (Sotogrande, Marbella, La Zagaleta...) or in the city of Cascais (Portugal), it recovers the soul of the environment in which it is located, merging with it, while each villa has its own personality and stamp, thus paying tribute to a mixture of styles and landscapes that make that, in ARK, no two villas are the same, not even similar. • Serenity Yachts Continues its Commitment to Sustainability this Earth Day

Serenity Yachts reaffirmed its commitment to sustainability this Earth Day, April 22, by continuing to reduce the yachting industry’s carbon footprint with its solar-powered vessels. Serenity Yachts’ next generation of vessels are not only green, but performance-driven and are made with today’s modern sea traveler in mind. While luxury has always played a large role in yacht design, green technology has historically lagged behind in the industry – until now. Led by Executive Director Boyd Taylor, Serenity Yachts blends luxury and technology, creating a tranquil yachting experience. With quiet electric motors, the yachts allow all onboard to experience the beauty that our reefs and oceans have to offer without polluting and damaging them in the process. Serenity Yachts strives to eliminate dependency on fossil fuel and is committed to building yachts that stand the test of time. Each part of the yacht ― from the carbon fiber hulls to the hydraulic flybridge ― is designed to maximize efficiency and performance. Every yacht that Serenity builds is fully customizable. Serenity’s shipbuilders are artisans and seasoned masters of their craft. Serenity Yachts, which was featured in the annual Neiman Marcus Christmas Book, presently has two lines of vessels: the Serenity 64 and Serenity 74. Each is equipped with the latest technologies and offers a selection of the most cutting-edge equipment in navigation, entertainment, and smart home technologies. The Serenity 64 offers 65 square meters of SunPower® solar panels and can cruise indefinitely at 4-6 knots while still providing power to the onboard amenities. The vessel features a combined galley and saloon on main deck, four VIP cabins (each with their own en-suite bathroom), one crew cabin, and a hydraulic flybridge. Other layouts are available. The Serenity 74 offers 110 square meters of SunPower® solar panels and has the ability to cruise endlessly at 7–9 knots while still powering the onboard amenities. The ideal yacht for luxurious onboard living or chartering, it features a combined galley and saloon on the main deck, four VIP cabins (each cabin with an en-suite bathroom) and two additional cabins and baths in the forepeaks, that can be configured for family or crew (other layouts are available). The Serenity 74’s chic interior was designed with fashion in mind. The vision for the design was inspired by the keen style of former Neiman Marcus Fashion Director Ken Downing. Serenity Yachts is constantly improving its vessels. The brand designs its systems to make them simple to upgrade once new and improved technologies are available. As solar and battery technology continue to accelerate, these yachts will only become faster and more powerful. In addition to engineering custom build vessels and providing general refitting services, Serenity Yachts offers seafarers the ability to convert traditional gas-powered boats into more eco-friendly versions. “We believe the future of yachting is in solar technology and want to show the world that yachting can be sustainable. Our solar-powered yachts are perfect for veteran yacht owners as well as first time buyers. Our performance-driven vessels provide a truly unparalleled yachting experience,” said Taylor. “In addition to the sustainability and fuel savings, the quiet electric motors make for a much more enjoyable experience. There are nounpleasant diesel fumes or loud noise, just the fresh ocean air,” he continued. For more information about Serenity Yachts, visit serenityyachts.com. By ML Staff. • MOCA North Miami to Present “Collection Focus: Our Beginnings Never Know Our Ends"

The Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami (MOCA) is pleased to present “Collection Focus: Our Beginnings Never Know Our Ends,” a new exhibition of artworks that explore ideas of selfhood and the negotiation of relationships. The exhibition will be on view from April 28 through July 11, 2021. Curated by Elizabeth Shannon, Ph.D., Collections Curator at the Ruth and Elmer Wellin Museum of Art at Hamilton College, the exhibition was in its final planning stages when the COVID-19 pandemic reached the United States. As everything drastically changed, some of the pieces in the exhibition gained a new significance. “‘Collection Focus: Our Beginnings Never Know Our Ends’ is the second in a series of recent explorations of MOCA’s permanent collection,” said MOCA Executive Director Chana Sheldon. “We are pleased to re-introduce these works to the community, with new context and scholarship.” The exhibition features works by Ann Agee, Hernan Bas, Christine Borland, Inka Essenhigh, Luis Gispert, Jean-Michel Othoniel, Joel Otterson, Elaine Reichek, Ilene Segalove, Beverly Semmes, Anna-Maria Sircello, Shinique Smith, Michael Vasquez and Helen Verhoeven. Its title is derived from T. S. Eliot’s poem “Portrait of a Lady” (1915), from which Shinique Smith also drew the title of her work “And, she has a bowl of lilacs in her room” (2008), which featured in her 2010 solo exhibition at MOCA. Many works, particularly those created by women and LGBTQA+ artists, challenge and subvert existing hierarchies; others encourage viewers to think carefully about identity and its expression. Some pieces highlight the conflicting influences, histories and narratives that contribute to a sense of self and the difficulty of truly comprehending anyone else. Exhibiting artist Hernan Bas is one of Miami’s most internationally renowned artists. Bas’ work, “Ghosts of You,” is part of a series of paintings inspired by The Hardy Boys books and appeared in his first solo museum exhibition, “It’s Super Natural,” at MOCA in 2002. Bas continues to gain inspiration from literary sources while exploring LGBTQIA+ issues, queer desire, the paranormal and the occult. Inka Essenhigh’s “Romantic Painting” features her distinctive style that draws from influences such as Art Nouveau, Japanese anime and the dynamic motion of Italian Futurist sculpture. Essenhigh came to prominence in New York in the 1990s with her Wallpaper series created using enamel paint. After 2001 she began to use oil paint in order to achieve a more modulated and illusionistic effect, as seen in “Romantic Painting.” Miami-based artist Michael Vasquez’s drawing “Father didn’t want anything to do with it” is one of a number of works that the artist has produced during his career that explore the idea of the father figure and a father’s absence. The drawing reflects one aspect of the artist’s experience growing up as the only child of a single parent mother and being drawn to neighborhood street gangs. The exhibition explores how we form and maintain a stable sense of self amid personal, familial and social expectations and pressures. Many of the artists suggest how we might exist in the world and fulfill a responsibility to others while maintaining optimism, kindness, resilience and good humor.
