- Audemars Piguet Reimagines the Royal Oak Masterpiece Watch
Although retaining the general aesthetic codes of Audemars Piguet’s original Royal Oak model from 1972, the new selfwinding and selfwinding chronograph references in 34, 37, 38 and 41 mm present slight ergonomic adaptations in terms of case, bracelet and dial design. While most of the novelties are fitted with the dedicated “50-years” oscillating weight, the 37 mm references also see the introduction of a new selfwinding movement, Calibre 5900. ROYAL OAK SELFWINDING Ref. 15500ST.OO.1220ST.01 The blue dial of this 41mm Selfwinding Royal Oak offers new subtle details: wider indexes, a minute train printed on the external area, and a date window further away from the centre. Case Stainless steel case, glareproofed sapphire crystal and caseback, screw-locked crown. Dial Blue dial with “Grande Tapisserie” pattern, white gold applied hour-markers and Royal Oak hands with luminescent coating. Bracelet Stainless steel bracelet with AP folding clasp CALIBRE 4302 Functions: Hours, minutes, centre seconds and date. - A Better Macaroni Salad
This macaroni salad has all the appeal of the old-fashioned, mayo-dressed version but with a few updates to make it taste brighter and better. Macaroni salad is a staple at summer picnics, BBQs, and potlucks. I call this one “better” because it’s got all the appeal of the old-school, mayo-dressed version but with a few updates – namely, sour cream, Dijon mustard, fresh basil, and loads of crisp, crunchy veggies – to make it taste brighter. Cutting the traditional all-mayo dressing with sour cream and mustard makes the salad tangy and less mayonnaise-y, while the basil and veggies add fresh summer flavor. The key to the perfect creamy texture is thinning the dressing with a bit of water, so it coats the pasta without getting too clingy. However, keep in mind that the dressing thickens and gets absorbed by the noodles as the salad sits, so while all the components can be prepared ahead, it’s best to wait until right before serving to toss everything together. Macaroni salad pairs nicely with burgers, hot dogs, fried chicken, BBQ ribs, or grilled or BBQ chicken. WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO MAKE MACARONI SALAD You don’t have to use elbow noodles to make macaroni salad. As you can see, I use cavatappi; farfalle or fusilli would also work well. STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the pasta until tender according to package instructions (about 1 minute past al dente). While the pasta boils, prep all the add-ins. Drain the pasta in a colander and let cool to room temperature In a large bowl, combine the mayonnaise, sour cream, sugar, mustard, vinegar, water, salt, pepper, and onion powder. Whisk until combined. Add the cooked pasta, carrots, celery, bell pepper, scallions, and basil to the bowl. Stir until evenly combined. Serve immediately or let sit for up to an hour at room temperature before serving. Keep in mind that the dressing will thicken a bit as it sits. HOW TO MAKE MACARONI SALAD AHEAD The dressing can be made up to 3 days ahead and refrigerated; the pasta, vegetables, and basil can be prepared up to 1 day ahead and refrigerated. Before serving, bring all of the components to room temperature. Add the dressing to a large bowl and whisk to loosen, then stir in the pasta, vegetables and herbs. Taste and adjust seasoning and serve. A Better Macaroni Salad By Jennifer Segal his macaroni salad has all the appeal of the old-fashioned, mayo-dressed version but with a few updates to make it taste brighter and better. Cook the pasta according to package instructions until tender (about 1 minute past al dente). Drain and let cool to room temperature. Meanwhile, in a large bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, sour cream, sugar, mustard, vinegar, water, salt, pepper, and onion powder. Add the cooked pasta, carrots, celery, bell pepper, scallions, and basil to the bowl and stir until evenly combined. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary. Serve the salad immediately or let it sit for up to an hour at room temperature before serving. (Keep in mind that the dressing will thicken and get absorbed by the noodles as the salad sits.) Make-Ahead Instructions: The dressing can be made up to 3 days ahead and refrigerated; the pasta, vegetables, and basil can be prepared up to 1 day ahead and refrigerated. Before serving, bring all of the components to room temperature. Add the dressing to a large bowl and whisk to loosen, then stir in the pasta, vegetables and herbs. - Overcoming Fears Through Fitness
We’ve all been there before, in that one moment. This moment that originates in the deep dark ocean that can be our mind, one that causes an unsettling feeling almost instantly. A feeling that doesn’t creep up slowly but instead rushes in with a sort of unstoppable all-encompassing force. Encircling, wrapping its tentacles around you and taking over your thoughts, willpower, and more. What is this moment? What is this feeling? It is fear. It is the unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain, or a threat. That’s all it is, a belief. Everyone has different types of fear, of course, fear of heights, fear of spiders, fear of public speaking, but people have other types of fears as well. These fears could be daily fears that manifest themselves in anxieties, expressions of irritability, a feeling of powerlessness. Ultimately this feeling, this moment, is also a trigger response, one that activates the fight-or-flight response. Our system is designed to deal with these acute stressors for only a short period of time and does so by responding with physical work hence the name fight-or-flight. The stress that we deal with today is constantly triggering this response, just in a different way and in turn most of us aren’t responding in a physical way as we have been naturally designed to do so. According to the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), these modern stressors accumulate and deny the body that needed time to repair, recover and replenish. This leads to elevated cortisol (that’s your main stress hormone) levels which in turn cause elevated fats to be in circulation. This could start a negative cascade of physiological responses within you that elevate the level of stress hormones, adding to the cycle and making you more prone to these “fears”. How to deal with this? Exercise. Exercise has been scientifically proven to improve physiological health. Proven benefits of physical activity include lower blood pressure, decreased risk of heart disease, lower risk of type 2 diabetes, reduced risk of certain cancers, increased muscle strength and function, improved bone health and strength, healthy body weight, and even improved mental health. A consistent exercise routine coupled with healthy nutrition not only helps prevent a heart attack, metabolic disease and cardiovascular disease but can also reduce or prevent levels of stress, anxiety, and depression, as well as help regulate sleep patterns, improve mood, boost energy levels, and increase self-esteem. If you are unsure about how or where to start don’t worry, don’t add to the fears, you have help all around you. There are so many gyms that enable you to get that effective workout via a variety of equipment, exercise modalities, and group fitness classes. Seeking a professional personal trainer is also a great way to start the journey. A skilled trainer who can provide safe and effective exercise guidance and instruction to consistently get the best results possible is an invaluable asset in starting or improving your fitness journey. Exercise can be a wonderful and uplifting experience for most, for some it might be a bit intimidating at first but one way to quiet those fears is to do exactly what you’ve been designed to do. Don’t be afraid, don’t be afraid of second guessing your movements, your gym attire, the weight that you move, what you do, how you do it. Move. Act. Respond in a physical way. Running, cycling, swimming, boxing, weightlifting, dancing and boxing are all great exercises that benefit not just your physical health but also your mental health, it helps lessen those fears, and if you move without fear you move with power, strength, and confidence.
