  • How to Keep Your Car Looking Its Best: Secrets from the Pros

Every car owner dreams of maintaining that pristine, showroom shine on their vehicle. But how do you keep up the allure amidst daily drives and exposure to the elements? It turns out, there’s quite a bit to learn from the pros who make car detailing their life's work. Let's dive into their secrets. Discovering these tricks can transform your routine from basic cleaning to professional-level maintenance that makes your car stand out. It's about taking proactive steps to protect and enhance, ensuring your vehicle not only looks beautiful but also maintains its value. Isn't it time to treat your car with the same care as a classic masterpiece? Image by Kahl Orr / Unsplash Understanding Basic Car Maintenance Regular Washing: Best Practices and Products Keeping your car clean is the first step to ensuring it remains in excellent condition. Use a gentle automotive soap, and a soft wash mitt, and clean in the shade to avoid water spots caused by the sun drying the soap too quickly. Remember, the technique and the tools you use can greatly reduce surface scratches. Ensuring your car is dried with a microfiber towel can further prevent watermarks and surface scratches that detract from its finish. It's essential to wash your car at least once a week to avoid the accumulation of pollutants that can damage the paint over time. If possible, choose filtered or deionized water for rinsing to leave a spot-free finish. Importance of Waxing: Types of Wax and Application Techniques Waxing not only gives your car a desirable shine but also protects the paint from UV rays and more abrasive contaminants. Whether you choose a natural carnauba wax or a synthetic polymer sealant, the right application process—applying in small sections and using a microfiber cloth—can make a world of difference. Reapplying wax every three months will ensure continuous protection and shine. This routine not only enhances the appearance but also serves as a critical barrier against environmental assaults like bird droppings and tree sap, which can etch the paint if not removed timely. Paint Protection Film One of the most effective ways to preserve your car's paint is by applying a paint protection film. This thin, clear film acts as a barrier against scratches, chips, and stains from road debris, particularly valuable for those in harsh climates or who frequent gravel roads. Applied professionally, this film can be a near-invisible shield, maintaining the flawless look of your paint for years. The initial investment in a quality paint protection film can save you from costly repaints and help maintain your car’s resale value. The film itself is self-healing, meaning minor scratches can disappear with exposure to heat, ensuring the exterior remains impeccable. Image by Matt Antonioli / Unsplash Advanced Detailing Techniques from the Pros Using Clay Bars for a Deeper Clean Ever noticed tiny bumps on your paint even after a wash? A clay bar can help by removing embedded surface contamination that regular washing leaves behind. The result is a glass-smooth finish that's perfectly prepped for polishing or waxing. This method is particularly effective before applying a sealant, as it allows for better adhesion and a longer-lasting protective layer. Regular use of a clay bar can also prevent the build-up of pollutants that can damage the paint over time, making it a vital step in the detailing process. Polishing: Techniques to Achieve a High-Gloss Finish Polishing your car isn't just about aesthetics; it also adds a layer of protection to your paint. Use a dual-action polisher and a fine abrasive polish to remove minor scratches and swirls, enhancing your car’s shine to mirror-like levels. It’s crucial to select the right polish for your car's type of paint and finish, as some may require more abrasive levels than others. Regular polishing can also improve the overall health of your car’s exterior by removing oxidized paint and exposing a fresh layer beneath, which can rejuvenate the appearance dramatically. Engine Detailing: Keeping the Engine Bay Clean and Functional A clean engine bay can help in identifying leaks and maintaining optimal running conditions. Using a degreaser and various brushes, you can keep this area looking new and functioning at its best. Remember, a clean engine is often a more efficient one. Regular cleaning of the engine bay can prevent the buildup of grease and debris, which can lead to overheating and reduce the efficiency of your car's cooling system. It's also an excellent opportunity to check for wear and tear on belts and hoses, potentially saving you from expensive repairs down the line. Image by Samuel Elias Nadler / Unsplash Interior Maintenance Upholstery Care: Cleaning and Protecting Leather and Fabric Seats Your car’s interior is just as important as the exterior. For leather, use a pH-neutral cleaner followed by a conditioner to keep it soft and prevent cracking. For fabrics, vacuuming followed by a gentle fabric cleaner can remove stains and odors effectively. Protecting your seats with a UV protectant spray can also prevent fading and keep the material looking new for years to come. Regular maintenance of your upholstery not only enhances the comfort and appearance of your car's interior but also boosts its resale value. Dashboard and Console Cleaning Tips to Prevent Fading and Cracking Protecting your dashboard and console from the sun and heat is crucial. Use UV-protectant sprays after cleaning to keep these surfaces from fading and cracking. A well-maintained dashboard not only looks good but can also enhance the longevity of the materials. Regular cleaning and conditioning of these areas can prevent the buildup of dust and dirt that can scratch and degrade the surface over time. Importance of Odor Removal and How to Achieve a Fresh-Smelling Interior Keeping your car smelling fresh is vital for a pleasant driving experience. Regularly clean interior surfaces and use charcoal bags or other odor eliminators to maintain a neutral smell. Don't forget to change your cabin air filter as recommended! Ensuring good ventilation during and after cleaning can also help clear out any lingering smells, providing a more inviting environment for both drivers and passengers. Image by Jose Pinto / Unsplash Seasonal Car Care Tips Winter: Protecting Your Car from Salt and Ice In winter, road salt can cause rust and corrosion. Wash your car frequently and apply a quality wax or sealant to protect the paint. Don’t overlook the undercarriage, where salt tends to accumulate. Applying a rubberized undercoating can provide an additional layer of protection against the corrosive effects of salt and moisture. Summer: Preventing Sun Damage and Maintaining Air Conditioning Efficiency During summer, park in the shade whenever possible and use window shades to protect your car's interior from the sun's harmful rays. Keeping your air conditioning system in good working order is also crucial to beat the heat and keep your car comfortable. Regular servicing of the air conditioning system can prevent unexpected failures and ensure it operates efficiently. Using a reflective windshield sun protector can significantly reduce the interior temperature, which helps preserve the dashboard and upholstery. Using Professional Products at Home While there are many professional-grade products available for home use, sometimes the job requires a professional touch. Knowing when to call in a detailing expert can save you time and ensure the best results. However, for those who prefer the DIY route, investing in high-quality products and tools can make a significant difference in the effectiveness of your efforts. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions and safety guidelines to achieve the best results and avoid damaging sensitive materials. Image by Josh Berquist / Unsplash Conclusion From understanding the importance of paint protection film to mastering the interior clean-up, keeping your car looking its best is a rewarding endeavor. By following these professional tips, you're not just maintaining a car; you're preserving an investment. Your efforts will pay off not only in preserving the aesthetic appeal but also in maintaining the overall value of your vehicle. Remember, consistent care is key to ensuring your car remains a source of pride and joy. By ML Staff. Images courtesy of Unsplash

  • Jannik Sinner Starts in Gucci's Latest Campaign

Jannik Sinner stars in the latest campaign for the House. The Global Brand Ambassador is captured on court in a reportage-style campaign, shot through the documentary-style lens of photographer Riccardo Raspa, who followed the championed tennis player during practice and tournaments around the world. The campaign marks another significant milestone in Sinner's relationship with the House following the unveiling of the custom duffle bag, carried by the Global Brand Ambassador at The Wimbledon Championships last year. This exceptional collaboration, the first of its kind within the world of sports and luxury fashion, saw Sinner carry other two custom duffle bags at the US Open and the Nitto ATP Finals making a bold statement contributing to how Sinner is revolutionizing tennis codes and aesthetics. Originally from the North of Italy, Jannik Sinner has reached extraordinary heights, climbing the ranks in a journey that Gucci continues to support. Earlier this year, the world watched in awe as he took home his first Grand Slam title, and Gucci’s campaign wants to pay homage to the grandeur of these moments and the beauty of a sport that speaks deeply to the House’s heritage. Gucci’s affinity for tennis traces back to the late seventies when the House expanded its range of tennis-related products, notably focusing on accessories and footwear. This included the iconic Tennis 1977 sneakers – one of the first ever sneakers to be produced by a luxury brand. The House’s foray into the world of tennis continued well into the 1980s, with a ready-to-wear selection that instantly became popular with both athletes and lovers of the sport alike, as Gucci’s legacy of seamlessly merging luxury with leisure became part of its core identity. With Sinner, Gucci redefines the intersection of tennis and the House's legacy, epitomizing shared values of elegance and lifestyle. Through the words “Gucci is a feeling” drawn from a vintage Gucci advertisement from the 1980s, the campaign pays tribute to House Ambassador Jannik Sinner’s incredible journey, weaving a narrative of excellence that not only celebrates his achievements but also embodies the spirit of the House. • Flora Plant Kitchen Brings Elevated Vegetarian Cuisine to Miami’s Upper East Side

Vegetarian cuisine has gained a new Miami home with the opening of Flora Plant Kitchen, a sprawling indoor/outdoor restaurant in the MiMo District serving innovative plant-powered meals with a focus on sustainability and a unique Latin twist. The restaurant was founded and is run by Marnie Gelhard of DMS Earth Hospitality Group, which also operates The Cactus Shop, a food concept in Brooklyn, New York. Gelhard says that the Flora Plant Kitchen was created to serve as a “sanctuary” for vegetarians and those seeking to incorporate more veggie-forward food into their diets, as well as to introduce Miami to a new type of elevated meat-free dining. “We drew our inspiration from our travels to Colombia and Mexico, where we were captivated by the local ingredients, decor, wildlife, fresh fruit, and vibrant sights and smells,” says Gelhard. “Flora Plant Kitchen’s vegetarian focus is a reflection of our core values—compassion, environmental responsibility, and the promotion of healthier food choices for our community and our planet. For us, it's all about compassion and respect for animals - our pets hold a special place in our hearts. We're also on a mission to shrink our carbon footprint by reducing meat consumption. Learning that factory farming churns out more methane gas than global transportation was another factor that led us to shift towards vegetarian cuisine.” Cuban-American Executive Chef Fabio Delgado leads the restaurant’s culinary team, which dishes out elevated, healthy Latin-inspired cuisine. Each dish artfully combines culinary creativity, sustainability, and an experimental fusion of flavors, prepared with fresh, seasonal ingredients in state-of-the-art kitchen equipment, including a PIRA charcoal barbecue that adds a distinctive smoky flavor to offerings. “Each dish is made from scratch in our kitchen so we pay maximum attention to every detail,” says Delgado. “Our products are fresh and delicious as we mix techniques and cultures in each dish, providing a unique approach to top-quality vegetarian food.” Menu items range in price from $25 to $65 and include homemade pastries, pastas, and specialities like Shakshouka with Arepas, a dish of sunny-side up eggs in a gluten free tomato and pepper sauce combined with confit cherry tomatoes, plant-powered chorizo avocado, queso fresco, micro cilantro and served with handmade Colombian cheese arepa. Other savory highlights are Cactus Elotes, charcoal whole corn cob that comes topped with chipotle guava aioli, long hots aioli, cotija cheese and paprika breadcrumbs and Brunch Hamburguesa, a plant-powered burger on homemade brioche filled with truffle aioli, cheddar cheese, sunny side up free range eggs, mixed greens, avocado, heirloom tomato and caramelized onion accompanied by roasted heirloom fingerling potatoes. “We're proud to support local farmers who share our commitment to sustainable practices,” noted Gelhard. “By sourcing fresh, high-quality ingredients from these eco-conscious farmers, we're not only ensuring the goodness of our dishes but also nurturing the health of our soil. We keep our prices reasonable and, with three different menus, there's something for everyone, including options with premium ingredients.” Guests can also indulge in Yuzu French Toast, a sweet offering of housemade brioche topped with a berry compote made even better with yuzu mascarpone and almond oat crumble or the Japanese-style Peach Souffle Pancakes, cleverly layered with mouthfuls of Amaretto flambéed peaches, orange ricotta, toasted shaved almonds and a dusting of sugar snow. Flora Plant Kitchen's pastry display showcases croissants, scones, and banana bread and gluten-free and vegan selections prepared with methods steeped in French tradition. The food menu was made to be enjoyed with a selection of made-to-order juices, smoothies, herbal teas, farm-fresh Colombian coffee, wines, local beers, wines and specialities such as the Golden Turmeric Latte with organic turmeric root, dates, cardamon, ashwagandha, vanilla bean and black pepper.  A list of vegan cocktails includes handcrafted creations like Green Mimosa, a Prosecco-based cocktail mixed with apple, celery, and lemon and clarified options made with coconut milk. Some of the concoctions are prepared with repurposed ingredients like coffee grounds and lemon peels. Australia-native Gelhard designed the 5,800-square-foot restaurant, which features a minimalist aesthetic with a neutral color palette, custom-made furniture sourced from Bali, Indonesia, and   Brazilian cumaru wood pergola, most of which is crafted from recycled teak. Sustainability also plays a role in the decor through the use of organic materials like recycled teak, rattan, sand, coffee wood, and seagrass, a composition that blends harmoniously with the lush greenery that surrounds Flora Plant Kitchen. “Our restaurant’s design aims to make guests feel like they’re on a tropical vacation, with plenty of fresh air, calming vibes, and lots of natural light,” notes Gelhard. “It’s a place where people can take a break from their busy lives, relax, enjoy fresh food and just take it easy.” Flora Plant Kitchen is located at 5580 NE 4th Ct. # 4b, Miami, FL, 33137. Phone Number: 305-456-5018. Website: www.floraplantkitchen.com. Social Media:@floraplantkitchen. The event was attended by dignitaries including Walk Like MADD & MADD Dash Fort Lauderdale 5K Founder and Honorary Chairperson Heather Geronemus; Honorary Chairperson Colonel Nichole Anderson, Undersheriff of Broward Sheriff’s Office; Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz; Broward County Commissioner Michael Udine; Sgt. Ryan Clifton from Broward Sheriff’s Office; Sgt. Trevor Thomas from Fort Lauderdale Police Department’s DUI Unit; and Lt. Indiana Miranda from Florida Highway Patrol. The annual Walk Like MADD & MADD Dash Fort Lauderdale 5K is a community-driven 5K that raises awareness about drunk driving and underage drinking while uniting community members around MADD’s mission. Since it was established in 2011, Walk Like MADD & MADD Dash Fort Lauderdale 5K has raised nearly $4 million that stays in the South Florida community to save lives and support victims of drunk driving, making it the most successful grassroots fundraiser in the history of Mothers Against Drunk Driving. Every dollar donated remains in South Florida to provide victim services and prevention education at no cost. “We are extremely grateful for our supporters who sponsored, donated, ran, walked, volunteered and attended this meaningful event. Our community’s commitment to ending drunk driving makes the annual Walk Like MADD & MADD Dash Fort Lauderdale 5K an overwhelming success each year,” said Geronemus, who is also the immediate past chairwoman of the MADD National Board of Directors. “Drunk driving deaths in the U.S. continue to increase, so it’s more important than ever for the community to come together to raise awareness to end this 100 percent preventable crime.” Geronemus’ late father, Dr. Robert Perry Geronemus, was struck and killed by a drunk driver in 2009. “The men and women of the Broward Sheriff’s Office work every day to make sure our county is a safe place to live, work and play. I feel that it is crucial for us to support organizations such as Mothers Against Drunk Driving as we share a common goal of keeping our roads and community safe. Drunk driving is still the deadliest killer on our nation’s roadways, and I thank our entire community for joining us at Walk Like MADD & MADD Dash Fort Lauderdale 5k on April 28 as we take steps to end drunk and drugged driving,” said Broward Sheriff’s Office Colonel Nichole Anderson, Undersheriff. “If you have had any substance that would impair your ability to drive, you must not get behind the wheel,” said Wasserman Schultz. “There are some wonderful programs that MADD has led and created, like the HALT Act, and I am proud to have been able to help pass it into law. One critical effort that I’m most eager to push ahead alongside MADD, is a requirement that over the next few years major automobile manufacturers will be required to develop and install devices to ensure that whether you are impaired can be detected when you get behind the vehicle.” Event sponsors include Signature Sponsors UKG and Salah Foundation; Presenting Sponsor Sheriff’s Foundation of Broward County; Road Guardian Sponsor Weinstein Legal Team; Corporate Champion Sponsors Aetna, Broward County Sheriff’s Office, Durée & Company, Florida Highway Patrol, Fort Lauderdale Police Department, JM Family, Memorial Healthcare System, and the Miami Heat; Spotlight Sponsors Brinkley Morgan, BBX Capital, LaCroix, Publix, Rotary Club of Weston, Steinger, Greene & Feiner, Thomas & Pearl Injury Attorneys, and Westway Towing; and MADD Milestone Sponsors Baptist Health, Crowe, LLP, and David Geronemus & Mitzi Lyman Donations will continue to be accepted at www.walklikemadd.org/fortlauderdale through May 28.
