If you are heading to London this summer, don't miss the special Formula 1 Exhibition at the ExCeL London on 23rd August 2024. The critically acclaimed show has been hugely popular with visitors. The inaugural Madrid show was Spain’s biggest temporary show of 2023, while the Vienna edition has also seen strong attendance, with ticket sales surpassing Madrid heading into its final weeks. The first North American F1 Exhibition in Toronto also saw record-breaking presales, further highlighting the huge appetite from visitors and fans. Now heading to its fourth location, the London show will pay homage to the British Grand Prix and its contribution to motorsport, through a collaboration with the Silverstone Museum, and in a European first, the show will feature state-of-the-art simulators, offering fans the opportunity to get behind the wheel of an F1 car. The London edition of F1 Exhibition will also see the return of popular rooms such as: Once Upon a Time in Formula 1 which takes fans through some of the sport’s most iconic and defining moments through a mix of previously unseen photographs, films, artefacts and exclusive interviews. Drivers and Duels, featuring contributions from F1 drivers past and present, puts fans into the mindset of the F1 driver, and details the evolution of the driver from the first official race in 1950 to the modern day. Design Lab which takes fans on a deep dive into the technology of an F1 car, explaining key concepts such downforce and drag and the important role that the tyres play in extracting performance. Similarly, Revolution by Design will look to the future, focussing on the technical innovations of the future and the next steps F1 will take in areas such as sustainability and diversity and inclusion. Fans can take a forensic look at the charred remains of Romain Grosjean’s burnt out Haas chassis in Survival. The purpose-built room rounds out the show and offers new previously unseen footage of Grosjean’s 200mph crash in Bahrain which left fans in awe when he miraculously emerged from the flames. Finally, The Pit Wall – the show-stopping cinematic and immersive experience provides fans with a high-octane finale of some of the greatest moments in Formula 1 history. LGBTQ+ Pride season in Miami Beach kicked off this year with the first-ever Miami Beach Pride Concert series, which ended on Sunday, June 30, 2024. This landmark event, produced in collaboration with the Miami Beach Classical Music Festival and the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau (GMCVB) held in front of the iconic Tides South Beach building, served as the kickoff to Pride Month in Miami Beach.  For a look at Pride Month events taking place throughout Greater Miami click here. New World Symphony is celebrating the profound contributions of Black musicians, composers, conductors and performers who have paved the way for a more diverse and inclusive future in classical music. The 2024-25 season marks the fourth year of our “I Dream a World” festival, centering on the transition between the Harlem Renaissance and the Civil Rights Movement. We're excited to welcome conductor Jeri Lynne Johnson to lead a concert of music by William Grant Still, Julia Perry and William L. Dawson. Composer Julia Perry was born in Lexington, Kentucky in 1924. She studied voice, piano and composition at the Westminster Choir College, and conducting at The Julliard School. She later received Guggenheim fellowships to study in Florence and Paris. After spending nearly a decade in Europe, she returned to the United States in 1959 to become part of the music faculty at Florida A&M College (now University) and later took a teaching position at Atlanta University. As an African American woman, Perry pushed the boundaries of race and gender during an era that saw few composers of her background gain recognition. By the late 1960s her works had received wide acclaim and were performed by the New York Philharmonic and other major orchestras. Her career was severely hampered in 1971 when she had the first of several strokes, which left her paralyzed on the right side. She taught herself to write with her left hand and continued to compose. She died in 1979 at age 55 in Akron, Ohio. Julia Perry composed her Stabat Mater in 1951 and dedicated it to her mother. It is widely considered the piece that launched her career. NWS will perform Stabat Mater on February 8 and 9 at New World Center as part of the Saturday One and Sunday One subscription series. Top 15 moments of 2023-24 At number 12, we celebrate Steve Reich’s Music for 18 Musicians, an NWS BLUE Project conceived by Conducting Fellow Molly Turner. Reich’s masterpiece is a mesmerizing tapestry of sound, influenced by pop, classical, gamelan and West African drumming. Leisure dining flourished from the 1920s onward, not only on land, but also at sea and in the air, a result of rising incomes among an increasingly urban and mobile population. Restaurants in popular tourist destinations and in the trains, ships, and airplanes that carried travelers seized on advances in printing, designing an array of souvenirs and other cheaply produced takeaways touting exclusivity, ethnic cuisine, or a view of exciting corners of the world. What's on the Menu: Destination Dining explores such ephemera, including decorative menus and other items from ocean liner restaurants, railroad dining cars, in-flight dinner services, and hotels and eateries in cities like New York, New Orleans, and Miami Beach. Pharrell Williams brought together Louis Vuitton’s international community of LVERS at UNESCO headquarters in Paris. Against the backdrop of the symbolic globe surrounded by the flags of the world, the Maison’s spirit of travel is celebrated as a source of connection across humanity, manifested in the models who walked the runway. For this new collection, the Men’s Creative Director imagined humanity from a solar perspective, zooming out on the Earth.  The palette reflects the nuances of skin tones of all the humans on the planet. Second-skin garments feature textile innovations to pose as animal hides. Damoflage, the splicing of Damier and camouflage, is adapted into a Snake-o-Flage motif inspired by python graphics. The Map-o-Flage motif inspired by cartographic imagery evokes imminent departures. The archetype of the traveler imbues the silhouettes. The pilot becomes a flying dandy, inspiring cropped tailored jackets and bombers. Double-breasted coats and suits reference the elegance of the diplomat. Expertly crafted details of embroideries and buttons are amplified in formalwear for globetrotting secret agents. The refined cut of tracksuits creates exquisite comfort for the leisure traveler. The explorer inspires sophisticated interpretations of sportswear, and garments in the image of football pay homage to the world’s most unifying game. The Louis Vuitton Studio Prêt-à-Porter collaborated with the creative collective Air Afrique on graphics and patterns, including a Damier-infused tartan. Accessories feature sunglasses such as the LV Passport and jewels fit for explorers, like gilded compass brooches. A new line of Soft Leather Goods accompanied the silhouettes in the collection, all adorned with metal plate charms inspired by archival trunk tags. The grass is green, and the stage is set as the Wimbledon Grand Slam begins on July 1 and runs through July 14. USTA Florida is beaming with pride as eight exceptional players from the Sunshine State prepare to compete on the world stage. Representing the best of Florida tennis, these athletes bring a wealth of talent, dedication, and determination to one of the sport’s most iconic events. The men’s lineup features Ben Shelton, Sebastian Korda, and doubles sensation Austin Krajicek, each bringing exceptional talent and determination. On the women’s side, Coco Gauff, Danielle Collins, Sloane Stephens, Sofia Kenin, and the doubles phenom Nicole Melichar-Martinez showcase a blend of energy and Grand Slam experience. Heading in as the No. 2 seed, Coco Gauff is looking for her best finish on the famous grass courts. Having a best finish on the third round, the reigning US Open champion is determined to conquer Wimbledon. Collins won the 2024 Miami Open earlier this year. Another top competitor on the Women’s side is Danielle Collins. In her last year of playing professional tennis, Collins is eager to win the first Grand Slam of her career. Her experience is destined to help her with any challenges she may face. The 15th seed, Ben Shelton enters his second Wimbledon in his young career. He won his opening match last year and is hopeful of finding his groove and taking down tennis’ best. Joining him in the Singles’ draw is Sebastian Korda. Korda, who turned pro when he was just 18 years old, has been a treat to watch on the court. He is looking to reach his first quarterfinal at the London Grand Slam. Krajicek is looking to win another Grand Slam. Florida also has two players that are prominent in the Doubles space. Last year’s French Open winner, Austin Krajicek, and former Mixed Doubles Wimbledon champ, Nicole Melichar-Martinez enter as top seeds in the Men’s and Women’s Doubles Draw. Other Florida athletes include former Grand Slam winners, Sloane Stephens and Sofia Kenin. Both veterans are looking to recreate the success they’ve had on the hard courts, on the grass. They will be top competitors to watch as well. USTA Florida is proud to have these athletes representing the state on the global stage.
