  • Rabanne Resort 2025: A French Take on British Style

The Rabanne RESORT 2025 collection, designed by Julien Dossena, reflects a notable shift in fashion trends: the increasing influence of British style on French and Italian designers. This follows Gucci’s London showcase by Sabato De Sarno and Dior’s Scottish-inspired collection by Maria Grazia Chiuri. Dossena’s approach for Rabanne is rooted in his admiration for the eclecticism of British fashion. Rather than physically traveling, he immersed himself in the spirit of British style, capturing his look book with a Scottish lake backdrop. He was drawn to the “freedom” and “cultural identity” of English fashion, contrasting it with the more cohesive, less dynamic French style. The collection explores a fusion of British thrift-store influences from the 1980s and early 1990s, incorporating elements of techno music and New Wave. This theme naturally builds on Dossena’s previous runway collection, which was inspired by New York’s club and downtown scene. Rabanne RESORT 2025 features a blend of casual and party wear. Highlights include a chunky mustard-yellow tartan coat over a glittery animal-print top and jeans, and a traditional granny cardigan layered over a deconstructed shirt-dress. The collection also nods to Scottish patterns with silvery paillettes reminiscent of argyle sweaters and a fringed paisley dress evoking a girl’s makeshift creation from family scarves. In essence, Dossena’s take on British style through the lens of French design offers a fresh and playful reinterpretation of classic British fashion, underscoring the dynamic interplay between national styles. • Elevating the Women & Girls in Tennis Landscape

Back in March, USTA Florida took a significant step forward in promoting gender equity within the sport by revealing its Women in Tennis Research and expanding its Women in Tennis Initiative. This effort aimed at creating more opportunities for women and girls in tennis through targeted programs, coaching opportunities, and a commitment to equity principles. Since then, USTA Florida has actively implemented these changes, making strides to increase participation and support for women and girls at all levels of play. These efforts are reflected in all-girls camps, where two have already happened, and more are planned.  Inspiring the Next Generation of Women Leaders   On May 5, USTA Florida teamed up with long-time partner, Love Serving Autism (LSA), to host a special All-Girls Camp. This event focused on inclusivity, placing a particular emphasis on girls with autism and unique abilities. The camp provided a safe and supportive environment for these girls to learn and enjoy tennis, demonstrating USTA Florida and LSA’s commitment to making the sport accessible to everyone.  Later in the summer, in August, USTA Florida and UTR Sports collaborated to host their Third Annual All-Girls Camp at the University of North Florida (UNF). This camp offered girls a unique opportunity to learn from and interact with the UNF Women’s Tennis team, as well as receive mentorship from established women in the sport. The experience not only enhanced their tennis skills but also provided valuable insights and inspiration from female role models.  At these camps, participants proudly wore t-shirts designed by women in the sport, Monica Toledo and Erin Weiffenbach. Monica’s “Equal Tennis Game” design and Erin’s “Tennis Love” artwork have become symbols of the initiative’s goals. These shirts have been distributed at all camps and women’s coaching training sessions.  In October, USTA Florida will be hosting some more camps, with one scheduled to take place at the USTA National Campus. There is also another one set at one of Florida’s Historical Black College and University, Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU). FAMU has played a massive role in Florida’s tennis history as the legendary Althea Gibson, graduate of FAMU, inspired many young girls to get involved in tennis.  Expanding Coaching Opportunities for Women   USTA Florida’s commitment to promoting women in tennis extends beyond players and includes coaching as well. The organization has hosted several women-specific training sessions, providing valuable resources and support for female coaches, with more planned this year.  Coming this fall, USTA Florida is excited for its Women, Wine, and Wheelies training. This is an all-women adaptive tennis training open to any women that want to give wheelchair tennis coaching a try. Participants will earn USPTA and PTR Credit and become community coaches. There will be two dates, with one happening at the Racquet Club of Cocoa Beach on October 12 and another at the Winter Park Tennis Center on October 19.  One person, Jennifer Johnson, a new Community Coach, has been through the Community Coach program and loves to see women-only aspects being implemented.   “I attended the All-Women adaptive training last summer with my daughter Morgan, who is also a certified coach,” she said. “It was an amazing experience to network and collaborate with other women coaches. Sharing it with my daughter was even more meaningful.”  Jennifer wants to see more women involved because of the different view women bring to the sport. “Women coaches bring a unique perspective and experience,” Jennifer added. “We are all a team, and it takes everyone’s effort to coach that team, no matter what the age of the player. You are never too young, or old, to grow yourself in the game and more importantly, to grow the game of tennis.”  Following her participation in the Community Coach Program, Jennifer hosted a training of her own, where she helped train 20 community coaches at the YMCA of Collier County.  USTA Florida’s expanded Women in Tennis Initiative is making a meaningful difference, providing more play opportunities and fostering a supportive community for women and girls in tennis. As these programs continue to grow, the future of women in tennis looks brighter than ever, promising greater inclusion, equity, and success for all.  By ML Staff. • Functional Rehab Training for Back Injuries: A Comprehensive Approach to Recovery

Back injuries are a common and disruptive issue, often causing significant pain and limiting mobility. Functional rehab training has emerged as a highly effective approach to addressing these challenges. Unlike traditional rehabilitation methods, which may focus on isolated treatments, functional rehab training offers a holistic approach designed to restore functional movement patterns and enhance overall spinal health. Image by rh2010 / Adobestock Understanding Functional Rehab Training Functional rehab training is centered on exercises and movements that reflect everyday activities. For back injuries, this involves focusing on movements that support and strengthen the spine, improve posture, and enhance overall physical function. The goal is to help individuals regain their natural movement patterns, which are often disrupted following an injury. Core Strengthening A central component of functional rehab for back injuries is core strengthening. A robust core is crucial for providing support to the spine and alleviating back pain. Exercises that target the core muscles, including the abdominals and lower back, are integral to functional rehab. These exercises help build the strength needed to support the spine effectively. Image by rh2010 / Adobestock Enhancing Mobility and Flexibility Mobility and flexibility are also key aspects of functional rehab. Injuries to the back can lead to stiffness and a reduced range of motion. Incorporating stretching and mobility exercises can improve flexibility in the back and surrounding muscles, helping to reduce pain and enhance movement. By increasing the range of motion, individuals can perform daily activities more comfortably. Improving Posture Postural training is another important element. Poor posture can exacerbate back pain and contribute to further injury. Functional rehab includes exercises aimed at promoting proper alignment and posture, helping individuals maintain a neutral spine and avoid strain during everyday activities. Functional Movements Functional movements are emphasized in this approach as well. Exercises are designed to mimic real-life activities such as lifting, bending, and twisting. This helps individuals retrain their bodies to move correctly and safely, which can significantly reduce the risk of re-injury. Image by rh2010 / Adobestock Benefits of Functional Rehab Training The benefits of functional rehab training for back injuries are substantial. Pain relief is a primary benefit, achieved by strengthening the muscles that support the spine and improving flexibility. Additionally, functional rehab enhances overall physical function, allowing individuals to perform daily tasks with greater ease and less discomfort. Importantly, this approach also helps prevent future injuries by addressing the root causes of back pain and promoting better movement habits. Getting Started To embark on functional rehab training, working with a skilled physical therapist or rehabilitation specialist is essential. They can design a personalized program based on an individual’s specific needs and goals, ensuring a safe and effective recovery process. Conclusion Functional rehab training offers a comprehensive approach to recovering from back injuries. By focusing on core strength, mobility, posture, and functional movements, this method not only aids in pain relief but also enhances overall spinal health and reduces the risk of future injuries. This approach supports a healthier, more active lifestyle, promoting long-term well-being and recovery. By ML Staff. Images courtesy of Adobestock

  • Florida’s Blue Zones: Communities Embracing Longevity and Wellness

Did you know that in certain parts of the world, living to 100 is not only common but expected? These remarkable regions, known as Blue Zones , are where people enjoy significantly longer and healthier lives, with lower rates of chronic diseases and higher overall well-being. As more Floridian communities begin to adopt the principles that make Blue Zones so successful, the Sunshine State is on the cusp of a wellness revolution. In this article, we’ll explore how Florida is embracing the lessons of Blue Zones, focusing on communities leading the way in promoting longevity and wellness. Image by pucko_ns / Adobestock What Are Blue Zones? The term “Blue Zones” was first coined by researchers who identified areas where people live significantly longer, healthier lives. Popularized by Dan Buettner’s research, these regions include Okinawa (Japan), Sardinia (Italy), Nicoya Peninsula (Costa Rica), Ikaria (Greece), and Loma Linda (California, USA). Despite their geographic differences, these communities share common lifestyle factors contributing to their residents’ exceptional longevity. Scientific research shows that lifestyle choices are far more influential than genetics in determining life expectancy. In Blue Zones, diets rich in whole, unprocessed foods contribute to lower rates of chronic diseases. Regular, low-intensity physical activity is naturally integrated into daily life, promoting long-term health. Strong social ties and a clear sense of purpose enhance well-being, reducing stress and boosting longevity. These practices create a powerful blueprint for healthy aging, offering valuable insights that can be applied to improve health and wellness in other communities. Florida’s Approach to Longevity and Wellness Florida is emerging as a leader in adopting Blue Zone principles to enhance community health and longevity. One standout example is Naples, which joined the Blue Zones Project in 2015. For Floridians, embracing a diet similar to those found in Blue Zones, which is abundant in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, could result in lower rates of heart disease, diabetes, and certain cancers. In addition to diet and exercise, Naples emphasizes social engagement and stress reduction. The Blue Zones Project hosts workshops to help residents find their purpose and encourages mindfulness practices, such as yoga and meditation, to manage stress. Other Florida communities, like Sarasota County and The Villages, are also embracing Blue Zone principles, with efforts to improve diet, physical activity, and social connectivity, mirroring the successful strategies seen in Naples. Image by DisobeyArt / Adobestock Benefits of Embracing Blue Zone Principles Adopting Blue Zone principles can lead to significant health benefits for Floridians, including increased life expectancy, reduced rates of chronic diseases, and improved mental well-being. For Floridians, embracing a diet similar to those found in Blue Zones, which is abundant in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, could result in lower rates of heart disease, diabetes, and certain cancers. However, the benefits of adopting Blue Zone principles extend beyond individual health to broader economic and social impacts.  One of the most significant advantages is the potential for reduced healthcare costs. As chronic diseases become less prevalent through healthier lifestyles, the demand for expensive medical treatments decreases, leading to long-term savings for both individuals and the healthcare system. This has driven physicians to flock to nearby areas , increasing health provider opportunities. Stronger community bonds are another important outcome of Blue Zone-inspired living. Emphasizing social connections and community support, as seen in Blue Zones, can create more resilient and cohesive communities in Florida. Volunteerism, civic engagement, and regular social interactions foster a sense of unity and belonging, enhancing the overall quality of life. Image by rh2010 / Adobestock Challenges and Opportunities While the benefits of adopting Blue Zone principles are easy to recognize, implementing these practices across Florida presents several challenges. Cultural differences present a significant barrier, particularly regarding dietary habits. Lifestyle choices also pose a challenge. Blue Zones emphasize regular, low-intensity physical activity and strong social connections - elements that can be difficult to integrate in some areas of Florida. Economic constraints further complicate the adoption of Blue Zones. Access to healthy, fresh foods is not equally available across all communities, particularly in lower-income areas or food deserts where processed foods are more affordable. Urbanization presents another significant challenge. Florida’s rapid urban growth has led to environments designed primarily for car travel, with limited walkability and green spaces. Despite these challenges, Florida communities have numerous opportunities to embrace and benefit from Blue Zone principles. Residents can gradually shift towards healthier lifestyles by starting small with projects like farmers’ markets, community gardens, and walking clubs. Local governments have a crucial role to play in this transformation. By implementing supportive policies, such as zoning regulations that promote walkable neighborhoods and providing incentives for businesses that offer healthy food options , governments can create environments that make it easier for residents to live healthier lives. Investing in infrastructure - such as bike lanes, parks, and pedestrian-friendly streets - can further support active living and align urban environments more closely with the principles seen in Blue Zones.  Image by rh2010 / Adobestock Conclusion Florida’s burgeoning embrace of Blue Zone principles signifies a promising shift towards enhanced community health and well-being. Cultural habits, economic disparities, and urbanization pose significant challenges to widespread adoption. Yet, these challenges also present opportunities for innovation and community-driven solutions. Grassroots initiatives, supportive local policies, and collaborative efforts among residents, governments, and healthcare providers can pave the way for a healthier and more connected Florida. • Otto & Pepe Restaurant: A Taste of Italy with a Twist in Miami’s Wynwood

Taking Italian cuisine in the Magic City back to its origin, Otto & Pepe brings traditional Italian fare with a reimagined dining experience to the North End of Miami’s Wynwood Art District. Opening its doors  this summer, Otto & Pepe specializes in mean pasta and natty wine, set in a convivial atmosphere featuring an intimate wine  enoteca , 28-person pasta bar, and an enchanting garden.    With a menu crafted by Italian Chef Viviana Varese, renowned for her Michelin-Starred restaurant Viva in Milan and W Villadorata Country Restaurant in Sicily, alongside Miami-local wine expert Karina Iglesias, award-winning mixologist Matias Iriarte, and co-founded by the masterminds behind South Florida institutions such as 1800-Lucky Gabriela Chiriboga and Samuel Ghouzi, Otto & Pepe is where pasta aficionados and oenophiles come together in celebration of the flavors of Italy.    Inspired by travels across Europe and centered around Miami’s vibrant energy, the restaurant offers an effortlessly cool and charming dining experience designed to immerse guests in the  aperitivo  culture. Showcasing the artistic, urban spirit that is quintessentially Wynwood, the outpost is brought to life by two hand-drawn characters; Otto, a playful pasta and Pepe, a mischievous wine bottle --  the clever duo embodies the essence of the cheeky, unconventional concept.    “We are thrilled to introduce Otto & Pepe to Miami's Wynwood neighborhood. Born out of our passion for pasta  and desire to create the ultimate gathering place for locals and tourists alike, Otto & Pepe is a refreshing addition in Miami’s robust hospitality scene, bringing authentic Italian cuisine to the heart of Wynwood“ said Gabriela and Samuel, co-founders of Otto & Pepe.   Unfolding like a three-act theatrical piece, the restaurant comprises a series of distinctive spaces. Upon entering, a vast display of worldly wines in the Otto & Pepe  enoteca  offers a glimpse into the experience that awaits. A cozy yet muted space, brought together by a communal table, invites guests to linger and embrace the present moment. The wine selection, available for takeout or dining in, is curated by Miami-local and wine veteran Karina Iglesias offering a comprehensive list of wines with an emphasis on Italy’s diverse regions, complemented by exceptional choices from France and Spain, ensuring a balanced relationship between wine and dish.    Sitting at the heart of the restaurant, the main dining room bridges the three spaces and offers timeless sophistication with a twist. A first for Miami, the restaurant’s 28-person pasta bar is the main focal point. Similar to culinary maestros, orchestrating a symphony of flavors, the bar presents a front row seat to the alchemy of pasta-making. The menu stays true to Otto & Pepe’s playful tone with four categories of culinary delights: Red Sauce Pasta, White Sauce Pasta, More Pasta, and Not Pasta. Fresh house-made classics such as Doppio Pomodoro, Carbonara and Cacio e Pepe, will be offered and hidden gems such as Zuppa di Patate e Basilico and Raviolo Grande Spinach e Uovo will also be available.   Bringing forth 20 years of industry experience, master mixologist Matias Iriarte has created a beverage menu that is  broken down into Italian classics, house specials, and Low ABV/Low Sugar Drinks. Remaining true to its ingredients and inspired by Italian cuisine, imaginative libations such as Truffle Negroni, Strawberry-Balsamic Spritz and Orange & Macadamia Mimosa surprise the senses, while classics such as Americano, Spritz and Negroni remain timeless favorites.   Beyond the pasta bar lies the garden where lush greenery, gumbo limbo trees, and verdant foliage envelop guests in a cocoon of natural beauty, ideal for pre-dinner cocktails or a conversational night-cap. The garden will be flowing with unique cocktails focusing on hand-selected spirits from around the world crafted by mixologist Iriarte, as well as a curated wine selection by Iglesias, all selected to perfectly accompany the garden’s  antipasti  menu.    Chef Varese, skillfully showcases best-in-class flavor profiles, traditional techniques, and ingredient-driven dishes, utilizing fresh, in-season produce, whenever possible, and conceptualizing each piece of the pasta-puzzle with reverence, selecting ingredients with intention.   “Pasta reigns supreme on Otto & Pepe's menu, where each dish pays homage to classic recipes and the Italian principle of respecting the raw ingredient. As Miami is home to world class gastronomy, it is an honor to introduce these culinary creations that invite guests to savor genuine taste and flavors,” said Chef Varese.   Much like its menu, Otto & Pepe's architectural design reflects the unexpected marriage between the ordinary and the extraordinary. Conceptualized by Saladino Design Studios, Otto & Pepe exudes an essence of elevated simplicity using natural woods, warm tones, and sleek accents to highlight the beauty of the space, while animated details bring a sense of character, creating an atmosphere that is sophisticated yet approachable. Evoking a sense of intimacy, an open kitchen allows a peek inside the culinary mastery firsthand, further enhancing the immersive and interactive setting.   A place where leisure meets culinary delight, Otto & Pepe is not only a place to enjoy world-class cuisine, but is a playground for conversation and the creation of cherished memories, inspired by the genuine thirst for indulgence and the  Dolce far Niente  lifestyle.   Otto & Pepe will be open Monday-Sunday, 5PM-1AM, for more information please visit  ottoandpepe.com   and follow on Instagram   @OttoandPepe . • The Peters Twins: The Dynamic Duo Who Does It All

Actresses and Elite Athletes Nicole and Lauren Peters Discuss Their Roles In The Film “Twin Lies”, Season 10 of “The Amazing Race Canada,” and The Unusual Perks Of Being An Identical Twin. Lauren and Nicole Peters, also known as The Peters Twins, are captivating audiences around the world. These up-and-coming actresses recently starred in the Tubi original film, “Twin Lies”, a thriller following twins Nina and Victoria. Before starring in a film alongside each other, the pair can be seen in Netflix’s “Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story” alongside Jerry Seinfeld and Melissa McCarthy, and as young Blake Lively in “A Simple Favor”. Not only are they actresses, but this dynamic duo represents Team Canada as elite water skiers on the country’s show skiing team. The twins can currently be seen competing on “The Amazing Race Canada”, utilizing their extensive athletic skills and on-screen charisma, making them an unforgettable pair. Beyond acting and athletic abilities, Lauren and Nicole are remarkable scholars, passionate about learning and education. Here, Miami Living chats with the Peters Twins, discussing their role in “Twin Lies”, season 10 of “The Amazing Race Canada”, a shared love for the vibrant city of Miami, and more. Miami Living: After finishing school, you were both accepted into multiple law schools. What made you decline these offers and pursue acting? When did you realize acting was the dream? Nicole: We have a myriad of interests with law definitely being one of them. Though law school is a top goal as well we knew if we were going to pursue acting further, the time would be now. We realized acting was the dream simply by how when we spoke about acting, our faces would instantly light up. Lauren: Acting has always been our passion, but we have always had this academic side to us as well that prompted us to write our LSATs after finishing our undergraduate degrees! Scoring identical competitive scores, Nicole and I have been fortunate to get offers from numerous law schools. We have put these on hold as it was always our dream to pack up and move to Hollywood to further pursue this artistic side! We have had numerous exciting projects come out recently and hopefully, a lot more are in the works so stay tuned! We are big believers in doing it all and watch out for the next identical twin actors and lawyers! Miami Living: “Twin Lies” is a thriller filled with deception and intrigue. What drew you to this genre, and tell us about your roles and the most challenging aspect of playing Nina and Victoria? Nicole: Though we love many different genres, there is something about a thriller like this that keeps you on your toes. “A Simple Favor” was a thriller as well so I definitely have had some experience in this genre. Nina and Victoria from “Twin Lies” are dynamic, complex, spicy, and just all-around lovable characters. One of the most challenging aspects actually began at the audition stage. Though we auditioned for both twins, trying to figure out which one of us resonated with which one more was difficult. When it came to being on set and when I was cast as Nina, a lot rested on me portraying her. She is in nearly every scene of the movie and making sure I brought all of her layers to life was a challenge but definitely a fun one at that! Lauren: I absolutely love delving into drama and suspense and this film let me do just that. Its storyline is quite unique, and it is such a fun watch with lots of twists and turns! Nicole and I are so fortunate to be the leads alongside each other in this film. We differentiated these twins and gave them their own personalities and stories while maintaining that unique twin bond. Miami Living: How did your experiences in “Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story” and “A Simple Favor” prepare you for your lead roles in “Twin Lies”? Nicole: Working alongside and learning on set first-hand from household names instilled in me both the confidence and experience needed to be a lead. Lauren: Playing the iconic “Doublemint Twins” in Jerry Seinfeld’s recent directorial debut “Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story” and Hope and Faith McLanden (Young Blake Lively) in Paul Feig’s “A Simple Favor” very much so prepared me for my lead role in “Twin Lies”. I have been so fortunate to work with and learn from A-list casts and crews on these projects. Miami Living: Working alongside industry giants like Jerry Seinfeld, Melissa McCarthy, and Blake Lively must have been incredible. Can you share any memorable moments or lessons from those experiences? Nicole: Booking any type of a role is a huge feat and being able to book them with such celebrities is unreal. Listening to Jerry Seinfeld’s jokes and being directed by him, having my cast chair right next to Melissa McCarthy and simply talking and joking about how Lauren and I would switch places in school, to getting the best hugs from Blake Lively when we would see her on set or at the premiere—these are memories I will remember forever and they are three of many role models I’ve been fortunate enough to work with and look up to. Lauren: Working alongside industry giants and star-studded casts and crews quite early on in my career has been exceptionally memorable and influential for me. Having the honour of being selected to play the younger version of Blake Lively’s character gave me the confidence to do quite literally anything! Watching these actors act first-hand was special and I learned a lot being directed by Paul Feig and Jerry Seinfeld. Miami Living: Being twins means you share many experiences. Can you share special moments from your upbringing, including your professional lives, where being twins gave you a unique advantage? Nicole: Though we are determined and hardworking on our own, being twins is definitely a superpower. Being twins has allowed us to work together in school, sports, and acting. A few fun examples include scoring the exact same score on our LSAT, running cross country together growing up with our strides exactly in sync, and persuading casting directors to make a single role into a twin one by adding our twin magic to a self-tape! Lauren: Nicole and I always believe that with us 1+1=3. We work together so well and pull off some remarkable ventures that I attest a lot to being an identical twin and working through things together. Nicole and I excel working together—whether that be in acting roles, in water skiing acts, etc.—using our “Double Trouble” energy is our thing! — Lauren Though we are determined and hardworking on our own, being twins is definitely a superpower. — Nicole Miami Living: Are there any disadvantages or challenges you’ve faced because you are twins that you’d like to share? Nicole: I would choose being a twin a million times over but competing against each other for one acting role is difficult. Lauren: Nicole and I absolutely love filming projects and acting together—however sometimes I worry when we audition for the same, singular role we confuse the casting directors/production and they don’t know who to choose! Lol! Miami Living: Competitiveness is often a theme among siblings. Is that the case for both of you? If so, can you tell us more about it? Nicole: We definitely have a healthy competition going. We push each other to be our best at all times, and I think in part that is how we have managed to achieve all that we have. Lauren: It’s quite funny because oftentimes in acting, if it is not a twin role, we will be auditioning against each other for the same role! I’ll be her reader during her self-tape and vice versa and we’ll help each other send in the best possible tape, despite the fact that we are vying for the same role! Hey, I’d rather book the role but if it doesn’t go my way I wouldn’t want anyone else to have it but my twin sister of course! Miami Living: As elite athletes representing Team Canada in water skiing, how do you balance your rigorous training schedule with your acting commitments? Nicole: Lauren and I somehow thrive off of having lots on the go. However, being able to balance important commitments and give proper attention and effort to both is definitely a challenge at times. I balance my training schedule with my acting commitments by making a clear schedule and just simply staying determined. I also do not feel like these commitments are mutually exclusive; for instance, ski shows require me to perform so I am always honing my skills for both. At the end of the day, I am a strong believer that if you want to do something bad enough you will make it happen. Lauren: Balancing our acting careers with anything is usually quite a feat as the acting industry is so unpredictable! However, when Nicole and I are passionate about something—acting and being Team Canada National Water Skiers, we don’t let the possibility of not doing both exist. We may be reciting lines while barefooting or on the top of a show skiing pyramid but hey if that’s what we have to do, that’s what we will do! Miami Living: How has your athletic training helped you the most in your acting career and on “The Amazing Race Canada”? Nicole: My athletic training has helped me in my acting career and on “The Amazing Race Canada” in that it has taught me to never give up. I played every sport growing up and even on Team Canada’s Show Skiing team, I often would tackle new skills I wasn’t familiar with and sheer grit and determination allowed me to do as well as I did. Never giving up in my acting career and on “The Amazing Race Canada” is key. Lauren: It has taught me a lot about teamwork, perseverance, the importance of practicing and working hard, and handling myself under pressure. On a set, much like on Team Canada, it is not just you and your character, or likewise only your role in the ski show that pulls the project together, rather it is the cohesiveness of the cast and crew on set or all the skiers in Team Canada that makes something successful. Furthermore, in water skiing, athletes fall and make mistakes, but the show always goes on. In acting, you cannot let one rejection make you want to quit, rather it should fuel you to get the next role! Likewise, on “The Amazing Race Canada”, my mental and physical abilities were completely put to the test. However, my ability to be able to handle myself under pressure—a skill garnered from both acting and professional water skiing really helped me to complete each and every task efficiently and effectively. Miami Living: Competing on “The Amazing Race Canada” must be incredibly demanding. What has been the most surprising or challenging aspect of the race so far? Nicole: I am always up for a challenge but competing on “The Amazing Race Canada” has truly been like no other experience. Although it has been incredible, it is extremely demanding physically, mentally, and emotionally. I think the most challenging aspect has been trying to not put too much pressure on myself. My sister and I hold ourselves to the highest standards and want to always do our very best so the pressure and keeping that in check can definitely be a lot. Lauren: The non-stop “go, go, go” nature of the race was probably one of the most challenging aspects of it. This race, although televised, is no joke and thus Nicole and I were giving it our all for hours on hours every single day. Furthermore, the level of competitiveness on our season especially has been like no other! Miami Living: Can you share a favorite or particularly memorable moment from your time on “The Amazing Race Canada”? Nicole: I think my favourite moment from my time on the race would just be proving people wrong. Lauren and I are quite friendly, have our little pink jackets on, and always have a big smile on our faces—however, we are fierce competitors. Placing at the top of every single episode so far and for lack of better words “kicking butt” has definitely been fun! Lauren: There have been so many memorable moments on “The Amazing Race Canada”—and even more to come! However, thus far I’d have to say our detour in Episode 1; Nicole and I gained an enormous lead by memorizing pages of lines in one attempt which took many teams hours and countless attempts. Furthermore, rappelling down the side of Niagara Falls and off-roading in pickup trucks definitely felt pretty badass!! Miami Living: How has your sisterly bond and teamwork been tested or strengthened through the challenges of the race? Nicole: My twin sister and I have always been very close and know what each other is thinking without even having to communicate it, so we always knew our teamwork abilities were strong. However, competing in the race definitely strengthened our bond and teamwork even more. Though we knew we had what it took, trusting each other to the max and watching each other pull off intense challenges was an amazing experience. Lauren: Nicole and I excel working together—whether that be in acting roles, in water skiing acts, etc.—using our “Double Trouble” energy is our thing! Our bond being an identical twin is so close and this race proved that even more! Miami Living: While you were in Miami, how did you spend your time? Nicole: Miami is such a special place and I have had the best experiences going there whether it has been for my birthday, big UFC fights, concerts, the list goes on. I love the beaches, boating, of course, Carbone and so much more. Lauren: I have only had the best experiences in Miami! I have spent some beautiful evenings at wonderful Miami restaurants, as well as enjoying the beautiful weather and beaches. Since being in LA, I have actually met quite a few amazing people from Miami and so I love heading over to visit them when I have the time! Miami Living: Have you tried or would you like to try water skiing in Miami’s beaches and bays? If so, what are the key factors for a memorable experience? Nicole: I typically only water ski on lakes, aside from one time on the ocean in Cabo. Nevertheless, I never say no to a new experience, especially if it involves doing what I love, so I 100% would in Miami. Any time being out on the water is a memorable experience in my books! Lauren: Unfortunately, I have never tried water skiing in Miami’s beaches and bays! Florida, specifically Winter Haven, has some incredible water skiing areas, so water skiing in Miami would be a heck of a time, I’m sure! Good water and unreal vibes—let’s head to Miami and do some skiing! Miami Living: What were your favorite experiences in Miami? How did the city impact you, and what were your key takeaways? Nicole: Miami is so vibrant with so much to do and simply even answering these questions is making me itch to visit again soon! Lauren: I love the people, water, boats, and restaurants in Miami! I was filming “Twin Lies” last December so could not attend but will definitely aim to check out Art Basel this upcoming December! Miami Living: After accomplishing so much in the first 26 years of your lives, what’s next for the Peters twins? Can you tell us about any upcoming endeavors or goals for the future? Nicole: We love tackling any new project but something that we have our eyes set on is the new Baywatch series that Fox is doing. We have done numerous movies now in our careers and to be characters in a TV series together and one that couples our love for acting and watersports would be a dream! Lauren: A lot is next, let’s just say that! Specifically, Nicole and I, as well as our management team have our eyes set on landing a twin role on the new FOX Baywatch series that is in development! Previous Baywatch star Pamela Anderson is Canadian so hey, it only makes sense! Catch the Peters Twins in “Twin Lies” on Tubi, and “The Amazing Race Canada” on CTV and Apple TV. • Tratos: Reflecting Florida’s Endangered Wilderness Through Art

Artists Juan Travieso and Katerina Santos work together as a mural collective. Tratos melds the artists’ surnames and also means “a deal or a bond” in Spanish. Travieso and Santos make a pact with each other to create paintings that reflect complicated realities and also their hopes for the future. In this site-specific mural, created for the Frost Art Museum, the artists address environmental changes that have affected Florida’s natural environment and honor one of Florida’s most endangered species, the panther. Here, the artists combine hyperreal representation (such as the panther) with elements of abstraction (the floating prism forms). This mural presents a singular panther walking out of a silhouette of another. The panther, surrounded by foliage native to Florida, moves toward the viewer. Behind the panther, environmental devastation erupts propelled by deforestation and changes in the climate. Habitat loss and degradation threaten the survival of the panther. The blue butterflies also reference endangered species as multiple, blue-tinged butterflies are listed on Florida’s endangered species list. The artists incorporate a gold frame as a symbol of optimism. The panther distinguishes Florida’s diversity as a habitat. This mural, an art form that has blossomed in Miami, encourages consideration of the plight of this native animal. FIU chose the panther as its mascot in 1987.
