Designed specifically for Superblue’s unique space, Lightfall merges the artistic expertise of Studio Lemercier’s Joanie Lemercier and Juliette Bibasse with Murcof’s ethereal soundscapes. The result is an immersive, ambient environment where visitors are submerged in darkness and enveloped by transparent mist. Abstract shapes of light emerge, suspended in water particles, creating a constantly shifting scene that captures the delicate interaction of gravity and airflow. The experience emphasizes movement and texture, prompting viewers to reconsider their sensory perceptions and their connection with nature.
Shantelle Rodriguez, Director of Experiential Art Centers at Superblue, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration. “Lightfall is a transformative experience that challenges our perception, urging viewers to redefine their relationship with nature,” Rodriguez said. This commission represents a continuation of Studio Lemercier's evolution, as the studio leverages technology to craft immersive depictions of the natural world through light and projection.
Over the past decade, Studio Lemercier has achieved global recognition for their installations and collaborative projects. Notable exhibitions include Night Light at Torggler Fine Arts Center in Virginia and Lightscapes, a solo tour across Spain, Mexico, Peru, and France from 2021 to 2023. Their public work Constellations has also garnered acclaim worldwide, appearing in locations such as the UK, Australia, Germany, and Norway.
Juliette Bibasse of Studio Lemercier shared, “It is a great joy to reach such a wide audience at Superblue Miami, a space committed to making high-quality art installations accessible to all.”
Studio Lemercier’s Lightfall joins Superblue’s ongoing exhibition, Every Wall is a Door, which features works by renowned artists teamLab, Rafael Lozano-Hemmer, James Turrell, and Es Devlin, each exploring human perception and the natural world.
