The fall 2024 performance art series debuted on September 21, 2024, and features live art events by artists Jeannette Ehlers and Tirzo Martha. Focusing on process, audience participation, and examining the relationship with space, matter, or other media, the artists featured in Beyond Representation create work that redefine traditional art-making practices. Jeannette Ehlers and Tirzo Martha’s performances collectively expose and refuse oppressive colonial ideologies while creating multiple narratives of freedom, healing, solidarity, and joy. Accompanying the onsite performance events at PAMM, the online component of Beyond Representation highlights the abundant contributions of Caribbean creatives to avant-garde performance art. Tirzo Martha: Act of Valor Virtual and In-Person Workshops | October–November Collective Performance | November 7 Taking as a point of departure, the figure of Captain Caribbean, an artistic persona that emerged in Martha’s practice in 2009, the artist and interested participants will reflect on contemporary issues (climate change, war, displacement, hunger, community breakdown, racism) and consider the desire to possess beyond natural powers to bring about change for a better world. Through a series of virtual and in-person workshop sessions, they will define qualities and characteristics of superheroes that will then be designed and shaped into costumes utilizing various materials. Born Ioana Maria Banu in 1926, ‘Mica’ — as she was known since childhood — grew up in a prominent Romanian family. After fleeing post-war communism to Zurich followed by a short time in Paris where she found work as a model, she married and moved to a rural Canada where she purchased a chicken farm. Undaunted by the gruelling work, she would rise before dawn to clean and collect the eggs, returning each evening to dress for candlelit dinners she prepared. Deeply generous, Mica understood the importance of sharing with the global community. With a purposeful focus on educational and cultural institutions, she ensured that historical sites and objects would be preserved while also looking to the future. As a champion of the World Monuments Fund, she secured the preservation of treasured heritage sites worldwide, from Brancusi’s Endless Column in Romania to the Edicule of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem. At Oxford University, she established the Mica and Ahmet Ertegun Graduate Scholarship Programme in the Humanities; a scholarship open to high performing students to encourage the exchange of ideas across the humanities. The program in perpetuity provides dozens of annual scholarships and remains one of the largest charitable gifts for the humanities in Oxford University’s 900-year history.   One of the great joys [for me] has been the study of history, music, languages, literature, art and archaeology. In 2017 her philanthropic efforts were recognised by Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, who made her an honorary Commander of the British Empire, CBE, for her contributions to philanthropy, education and British-American cultural relations. Traversing art, music, theatre, literature and business, she had a unique ability to bring people together from all walks of life, who found her a captivating host. In their now historic Manhattan residence, Mica and Ahmet would regularly host dinners attended by the world’s most notable figures, across art, music, fashion and media with grace. Duran Golf Club proved to be a worthy test with its slightly undulating greens, but the real challenge was the weather. After round one was suspended due to scattered thunderstorms, round 1 and round 2 would resume Sunday morning with a plethora of holes to play. In the end it was Junzhe Wang and Hannah Hall who took home the gold. Boys (16-18) With on and off rain delays during round one, it was Shaayan Kim and Ryan Nicholson who weathered the storm best, both sitting atop the leaderboard after the delayed round one resumption on Sunday morning, both shooting 68. Kim’s 68 would consist of 4 birdies and no bogeys, while Nicholson’s consisted of seven birdies. Kim and Nicholson clearly taking advantage of what the course had to offer. As the lengthy day of golf continued it was Junzhe Wang who led the pack by tee time in round two and on the leaderboard. Wang would clear a four shot deficit shooting an impressive 68, birding holes 1,4,6,9, and 15. This would secure his place on the top of the leaderboard as the rest of the field would file in. Maximus Knight would come in soon after carding a bogey free 68, allowing him to climb eight spots and secure a share of second place alongside, Ryan Nicholson, who fired a second round 73. Shayaan Kim, also carding a second round 73. As well as, Mike Liu, deemed “Mr. Consistency” shooting rounds of 70, 71. Girls (16-18) After our delayed round one, it was Charlotte Cantonis who stayed level headed through the delays and suspension. Coming back Sunday morning Cantonis shot a near perfect 69, only bogeying hole 18 to finish up round one. This gave Cantonis a 3 shot lead going into round 2. Hannah Hall also didn’t let the mayhem sway her and finished up her first round at a consistent even par. Hall followed Cantonis into the second round sitting 3 back. Hall and Cantonis were neck and neck all throughout the day. They both shot a solid 3 under on the front nine. Cantonis was sure to leave Hall an arms distance away throughout the front. At the turn, Hall birdied 10 and 11 while Cantonis bogeyed 13 and 14. Hall and Cantonis were tied at the top of the leaderboard coming into 18, but the sunshine through the clouds was Hannah Hall, claiming her 3rd FJT victory this year. Grace Xu, also played great with an awesome bounce back off her round one, Xu shot a 67 to tie the low round for the girls, and securing second place in the process. The Reverso Tribute Duoface Tourbillon is a glorious expression of the Calibre 847, with its iconic swivelling case and dual aesthetics. The mirror polished disc reflects light through the tourbillon, making it the ideal timepiece for our global ambassador - elegant and sophisticated. On the verso, the gold bridges are richly textured with Clous de Paris Guilloché. This guillochage is a highly skilled operation executed on a 100-year-old hand-operated lathe where the artisan carefully engraves 6 times each of the 232 grooves resulting in this delicate pattern. On the recto, the Reverso Tribute Duoface Tourbillon has an elegant yet highly distinctive presence allowing the tourbillon to take centre stage.
