  • Sachin & Babi: From India, With Love

Sachin & Babi has emerged as an occasionwear brand known for its exquisite embroidery, vibrant colors, and bold prints. But do you know the brand’s rich history? Sachin and Babi Ahluwalia met as fashion students at New York City’s FIT in 1994. They quickly discovered they were cut from the same cloth, bonding over their common interests, ambitions, and upbringing in India. Friendship grew into love, and soon after, a company. Together, Sachin and Babi built a design and embroidery business, working directly with the top houses including Oscar de la Renta, Carolina Herrera, Jean-Paul Gaultier, Manolo Blahnik, among others. While they were sharing in the creation of striking, runway-ready pieces, these self-proclaimed “dressmakers” wanted to launch their own brand for women who longed for an attainable luxury experience. In 2009, Sachin & Babi, their own label, was born. Their pieces are made in their family-run atelier in Mumbai, which is home to second-generation Master Artisans, whose talents are artfully employed in all the embroideries and embellishment that are seen in the brand’s collections. These are the very same hands that work on the gowns and garments that grace the runways of Milan, Paris, and New York, as well as the red carpets around the world. 14 years later, Sachin and Babi continue to blend their Indian heritage with their current home in New York City. The results – exquisite prints, colors, embellishments – are magic. For more information, visit: sachinandbabi.com. By ML Staff. Images courtesy of Sachin & Babi

  • Top 5 Styles For Outdoor Living Areas In Modern Homes

As modern homes continue to evolve, so do the concepts of outdoor living spaces. These areas are no longer just about having a patio or a simple deck; they're about creating a seamless integration between indoor comfort and outdoor freshness. Whether you're looking to revamp your existing space or start fresh with a new build, understanding the top styles can transform your outdoor area into a more inviting, functional extension of your home. Minimalist Modern In the realm of modern design, minimalism continues to hold sway, with its emphasis on simplicity and the mantra of "less is more." Minimalist outdoor spaces focus on clean lines and a monochromatic color palette, often complemented by structured, geometric landscaping. Imagine sleek, functional furniture and a layout that prioritizes space and light. Materials like polished concrete, stainless steel, and large glass panels not only reflect minimalist aesthetics but are also durable and low-maintenance—ideal for outdoor conditions. How can these elements be orchestrated to maintain both beauty and practicality? It’s all about keeping it understated yet upscale. To truly embrace minimalism, avoid clutter and select pieces that are both stylish and practical. Plants in simple, geometric containers can add life without breaking the clean lines. Subtle lighting solutions, such as embedded LED lights, can illuminate the area without overtaking the minimalist vibe. A well-designed fire pit could serve as a central feature, offering warmth and a natural gathering point. Use neutral tones with occasional accents in black or grey to maintain an elegant, cohesive look. Image by murattellioglu / Adobestock Bohemian Chic For those who favor a more colorful and eclectic approach, Bohemian chic is a style that combines artistic expression with a casual, unconventional feel. This style is characterized by its use of vibrant colors, varied textures, and a mix of patterned fabrics. Think hammocks, overstuffed pillows, and ottomans, all inviting you to relax and enjoy a laid-back atmosphere. Outdoor rugs in bold designs can define seating areas, while unique, handcrafted decor items add a personal touch. Incorporating natural elements like wood and rattan enhances the earthy, global vibe of a Bohemian outdoor space. Why not let your personality shine through in every detail? Add layers of comfort with multiple seating areas that invite long conversations and relaxation. Include a variety of plants, from tall leafy greens to small, colorful flowers, to enhance the boho feel. Consider using recycled or upcycled items to not only decorate but also promote sustainability. Hang string lights or lanterns to create a magical evening setting. And don't forget a durable, weather-resistant canopy or umbrella to provide a shady retreat on sunny days. Image by Antonio Burgos / Adobestock Rustic Farmhouse The rustic farmhouse style is deeply rooted in a sense of history and simplicity, offering a warm, welcoming charm that seems to say, "Stay awhile." This style integrates raw wood, often seen in handcrafted furniture and decorative accents, with stone elements to create a sturdy, time-worn aesthetic. Skilled deck builders can be invaluable in achieving this look, constructing custom wooden decks or pergolas that serve as both focal points and functional areas. Natural fabrics like linen and cotton in soft, neutral colors complement the wood and stone, bringing softness to the rugged outdoors. Isn’t it inviting to think of your outdoor space as a continuation of your home’s heart? For an authentic rustic feel, consider incorporating a large farmhouse table for family gatherings. Mason jars can be used as candle holders or vases, adding a touch of quaint charm. A swing or rocking chair can provide a nostalgic touch while offering a perfect view of the sunset. Use antique or vintage elements as decorative features to add authenticity to the decor. Finally, a well-placed herb garden not only adds functionality but also infuses your outdoor space with fragrances and greenery. Image by chokniti / Adobestock Tropical Oasis Imagine stepping outside your door into a lush, tropical paradise, where the stresses of the day melt away amidst vibrant foliage and soft, flowing waters. Creating a tropical oasis involves more than just planting a few palms; it requires thoughtful landscaping that mimics a natural habitat. Bamboo furniture, thatch roofs, and colorful hammocks can emphasize the vacation-like feel, while water features like ponds or waterfalls add tranquility and movement. Proper lighting is crucial to enjoy the space both day and night, with soft, ambient lights enhancing the exotic ambiance. How wonderful would it be to have a getaway right in your backyard? To further enhance the tropical theme, include a small bridge over your water feature. Add a variety of textured ground coverings like pebbles and wood chips to create a multi-sensory experience. Outdoor speakers discreetly placed can play sounds of nature, enhancing the immersive environment. Consider a built-in bar or BBQ area for entertaining guests in this lush setting. Finally, ensure there are plenty of shaded lounging areas using natural materials like bamboo shades or palm leaves. Image by tapui / Adobestock Sleek Industrial Industrial style outdoors brings an edgy, contemporary look with its signature elements of exposed steel and distressed wood. It's about repurposing materials in a way that's both stylish and functional. Cable railings, metal furniture, and concrete flooring are common in industrial outdoor spaces, offering durability and ease of maintenance. The challenge lies in softening the mechanical feel so it feels welcoming—this can be achieved with cushions and throws, warm wood tones, and potted plants. Mixing textures and temperatures provides contrast and interest, making the space more inviting. How can these elements work together to create a cohesive and attractive design? Add warmth with an outdoor rug or throw blankets in rich, deep colors. Use vertical space by incorporating wall-mounted planters or climbing plants on trellises. A fire pit or heater can make the area more comfortable in cooler weather. Ambient lighting, such as string lights or minimalist outdoor lamps, can soften the industrial harshness. Lastly, consider including a statement piece of art or sculpture to personalize the space and add visual interest. Image by CREATIVE WONDER / Adobestock Conclusion Choosing the right style for your outdoor living area can dramatically enhance your enjoyment and the functionality of your home. Whether you lean towards the sleek lines of modern minimalism, the eclectic charm of Bohemian chic, the sturdy rusticity of farmhouse style, the lush allure of a tropical oasis, or the bold simplicity of industrial design, there's a style to suit every taste and home architecture. Consider what resonates with your personal style and the overall aesthetics of your home. Remember, the best outdoor space is one that reflects your personality and meets your living needs. • Preserve the Elegance: A Personal Guide to Caring for Your European Luxury Furniture

In every corner of our homes, European luxury furniture whispers stories of timeless craftsmanship, exquisite designs, and a dedication to quality that transcends the ordinary. These pieces are more than just furniture; they're treasures that elevate the spaces they inhabit and serve as legacies to be cherished and passed on through generations. The secret to their enduring beauty and longevity? It lies in the tender, loving care we lavish upon them. Let's embark on a journey together—a guide woven with expert advice on nurturing your European luxury furniture, ensuring it remains a beloved cornerstone of your home for many years to come. Image by redrabbit007 / Adobestock Understanding Your Furniture's Materials Our journey begins with getting to know the heart and soul of your furniture—the noble materials from which it's crafted. European luxury furniture is renowned for its eclectic use of superior materials, from the warm embrace of rich hardwoods and the refined touch of supple leathers to the gleam of precious metals and the soft caress of delicate fabrics. Recognizing these materials isn't just about knowledge; it's about forming a connection. This understanding shapes the care and maintenance rituals you'll adopt, safeguarding the unique beauty and integrity of each piece. Image by yurkos / Adobestock Daily Care And Cleaning Basics The cornerstone of preserving the elegance of your luxury furniture lies in the simplicity of daily care and cleaning. Imagine the act of dusting with a soft, dry cloth not just as a chore, but as a gentle caress, protecting your furniture from the dullness that dirt and grime can bring. For those cherished leather pieces, a slightly damp cloth becomes a tool of rejuvenation, followed by the loving touch of a dry cloth to whisk away any lingering moisture. This ritual, though simple, is a testament to the importance of selecting cleaning products and tools that harmonize with the delicate nature of luxury furniture materials. Wood Furniture Care Wooden furniture, a cornerstone of European luxury collections, demands our attention and care to maintain its luster and strength. The ritual of dusting with a soft cloth, followed by the occasional polish with a product that's just right, becomes a celebration of its natural beauty. Yet, in this celebration, we must practice restraint, avoiding over-polishing that can attract dust. We protect its surfaces from the tales of scratches and the whispers of water rings, preserving its story for years to come. Image by Aramyan / Adobestock Leather Furniture Maintenance Leather furniture, with its rich texture and inherent comfort, adds a layer of sophistication to our homes. Maintaining its suppleness and preventing the tale of cracking involves a gentle cleaning with a soft, damp cloth, and the periodic nourishment of a quality leather conditioner. This care shields the leather from the harsh tales of sunlight and heat, which can fade and dry its stories. Upholstered Furniture Upkeep Our upholstered furniture, cloaked in high-quality fabrics, holds stories of comfort and luxury. The ritual of vacuuming with an upholstery attachment is not merely about cleanliness but about removing the hidden narratives of dust and allergens. Spot cleaning with a gentle cleaner addresses the occasional spills, preserving the vibrant colors and textures. And sometimes, we turn to the expertise of professionals for a deep clean, ensuring the fabric continues to tell its tales of elegance. Image by Magryt / Adobestock Metal and Glass Furniture Treatment In the realm of European luxury furniture, metal accents and glass surfaces offer a modern contrast to traditional materials. Polishing metal with a non-abrasive cleaner and caressing glass with a lint-free cloth and glass cleaner are acts of preservation, ensuring these pieces reflect the stories of our lives without the interruption of tarnish, rust, or streaks. Seasonal Care and Professional Maintenance As the seasons weave their stories through our lives, adapting our furniture care routines to their rhythms can protect and preserve our luxury pieces. Controlling indoor humidity in the tales of damp seasons, rotating furniture to share the embrace of natural light evenly—these are chapters in the ongoing story of care. And when the narrative encounters deep scratches or the need for restoration, we entrust our treasures to the skilled hands of professionals specializing in luxury furniture care. Image by teeraphan / Adobestock Caring for European luxury furniture transcends the mere act of cleaning; it's about nurturing a legacy of artistry and craftsmanship. With a tailored approach to maintenance, rooted in the materials and stories of our furniture, we ensure these treasures continue to add elegance and character to our homes. The beauty of luxury furniture lies not only in its initial allure but in its enduring presence, a testament to the care and respect it receives at our hands. By ML Staff. • All About Miami's Storm Surge Planning Zones

Storm surge is the greatest threat to life and property from a hurricane. It occurs when water from the ocean is pushed on shore by the force of tropical storms or hurricanes. This is the primary reason Miami-Dade County residents are asked to evacuate prior to a hurricane. A Storm Surge Planning Zone is an area that could potentially be affected by a storm surge of 1 1/2 feet or higher during a hurricane. Evacuation decisions are heavily predicated on storm surge planning. Upon identification of a threat, each zone (or portions of a zone) will be evacuated depending on the hurricane’s track and projected storm surge, independent of the hurricane's category. Look up your storm surge planning zone (map). Remember these planning zones deal strictly with storm surge; you still need to determine if your home is safe to remain in during a hurricane. Miami-Dade County's Emergency Operations Center or Mayor will use local media to relay pertinent information. You can register for emergency notifications to the device of your choice via Miami-Dade Alerts. About the zones Five zones, marked A through E, identify the risk of storm surge. Zone A is at greatest risk for Category 1 storms and higher. These planning zones deal strictly with storm surge, not your flood zone. Zone A is at greatest risk for storm surge for Category 1 and higher storms. Zone B is at risk for storm surge for Category 2 and higher storms. Zone C is at risk for storm surge for Category 3 and higher storms. Zone D is at risk for storm surge for Category 4 and higher storms. Zone E is at risk for storm surge from Category 5 storms. How the zones are created Storm Surge Planning Zones are drawn using Sea, Lake and Overland Surge from Hurricanes (SLOSH) model grids that incorporate local physical features such as geographic coastal areas, bays, rivers, water depth and bridges. Areas along canals, rivers and further inland have been identified as being at risk for storm surge based on SLOSH data. Frequently asked questions Storm Surge Planning Zone - FAQ Storm Surge Planning Zone - FAQ (Espanol) Storm Surge Planning Zone - FAQ (Kreyol) Disclaimer: Mobile home residents and people on electrically dependent life sustaining medical equipment should evacuate when any hurricane evacuation order is issued, regardless of their storm surge planning zone.
