- Ebb & Flow: A Multidimensional Exploration of Womanhood at The Frank C. Ortis Gallery
The Frank C. Ortis Art Gallery will host the Opening Reception for Ebb & Flow: Exploring the Womanhood Continuum on November 21, 2024, from 6-9 PM. The exhibition will be on view through February 22, 2025. Artist: Ana Albertina Delgado - Title: In love with the sun, 2024 - Image courtesy of artist Curated by Pamela ‘Zee’ Lopez Del Carmen and Sophie Bonet, Ebb & Flow features eleven artists exploring the fluid, evolving concept of womanhood. The exhibition navigates personal, political, and cultural intersections shaping women’s lives through various mediums. Artists engage with themes of memory, resilience, the body, and ritual, challenging societal norms while celebrating the transformative power of art. Artist: Coralina Rodriguez Meyer - Title: Mami Erzulie Dantò (Phara from Pharaohs Miramar) - Image courtesy of the artist. A key artist in the exhibition is Coralina Rodriguez Meyer. Her Linea Negra series, including Phara From Pharaohs Miramar Diptych and Yemaya Broken Water, connects motherhood to broader cultural struggles. The Linea Negra—a dark line on pregnant women’s bellies—serves as a symbol of life’s cycles and societal pressures on women’s bodies. Her work addresses reproductive justice and environmental degradation, drawing from her Andean and Caribbean heritage to explore resilience and resistance to colonial legacies. Artist: Marina Font - Title: Hope, 2014 - Image courtesy of the artist Marina Font offers a more personal exploration of femininity with her Cycles series, a collection of 26 pigment prints that reflect on life’s cyclical nature. Inspired by her experience of abrupt menopause, Font’s work symbolizes fertility, loss, and renewal, using metaphors of light, shadow, and objects like cracked eggs to evoke themes deeply embedded in the female body. Influenced by psychoanalysis, Font’s art asks viewers to consider how unconscious forces shape identity. Artist: Amy Gelb - Title: Seen , 2023. - Image courtesy of the artist RPM Projects, a multi-generational collaboration, contributes the immersive installation The House Inside My Head. This seven-segment video installation, set within a life-sized house with hair bursting from the attic, transforms the domestic act of folding laundry into a meditation on female labor. Hair, a potent symbol of femininity, represents the emotional burdens carried by women, making the installation a reflection on memory, ritual, and the invisible work that sustains families. Through these diverse works, Ebb & Flow highlights the multifaceted nature of womanhood. Rodriguez Meyer’s Mother Mold series examines women’s bodies as cultural vessels, Font’s Cycles explores the rhythms of life and the body, and RPM Projects’ installation delves into memory and ritual. Together, these pieces illuminate the cycles of life, care, and transformation, encouraging viewers to contemplate the continuum of womanhood. Ebb & Flow is a celebration of femininity in all its forms. By bringing together the works of Coralina Rodriguez Meyer, Marina Font, RPM Projects, and eight other artists, the curators have crafted a thoughtful exhibition that invites reflection on identity, ritual, and empowerment. Exhibiting Artists: Amanda Covach, Amy Gelb, Ana Albertina Delgado, Coralina Rodriguez Meyer, RPM Projects, Ivonne Ferrer, Lisu Vega, MaiYap, Marina Font. - New MOCA Exhibitions Uncover Histories of the Transatlantic Slave Trade and Personal Resilience
Opening November 6, the two shows engage melting sugar, 3d geologic modeling, and dance, to enliven histories of the transatlantic slave trade, personal injury, and family memory. They also mark a solo debut for South Florida artist Smita Sen, and the largest institutional presentation of Andrea Chung’s work. Working across multiple mediums including intimate collages that use archival images and mixed media, to large scale installations and multichannel video, Chung’s work investigates the colonial as it relates to motherhood, Blackness, the impact of trauma and the imagination. Using concepts like Drexciya as a springboard, she re-contextualizes history and offers alternate possibilities for self-concept. Meanwhile, Sen’s forthcoming exhibition will explore and feature the artist's use of her dance-based performances and how she developed sculptures and drawing based on her movements in her early and most recent works. - How Travelers Can Enjoy Gambling Destinations Like Canada?
Canada has become a country where tourists combine their sense of adventure with a touch of thrill. With world-class casinos, a legal gambling landscape, and a buzzing online gambling environment, it offers plenty of exciting experiences for those seeking entertainment beyond just tourism. From the buzz of a busy casino floor to the ease of playing right from your hotel room, Canada has sufficient options for you to enjoy any game that suits your taste. What makes Canada especially appealing to gamblers is the wide variety of gambling destinations that fit any taste, from flashy casinos in cities like Montreal and Vancouver to stunning resorts in the province of Quebec. In addition, the way online gambling is regulated in Canada allows visitors to enjoy access to many different types of online gambling platforms legally and safely. To explore different types of online gambling, you can learn more about it on Online-Gambling.com . Popular Gambling Destinations in Canada Canada boasts a few landmark physical casinos that have carved a niche among tourists. Among them, Casino de Montréal is the most famous, a massive complex on Notre Dame Island. With a vast number of table games and slot machines available, it's a place where one gets the pulse of Canadian gambling culture. With its futuristic design and panoramic views, it stands out not only as a casino but also as a tourist destination. Apart from Montreal, Niagara Falls is the next haven for gamblers. The Fallsview Casino Resort overlooks the majestic Niagara Falls, with luxurious accommodations combined with a premium gambling experience. Its poker rooms, gaming tables, and slot machines draw in a regular crowd of locals and international visitors alike, making it a popular destination for anyone looking to combine natural beauty with thrilling excitement. Meanwhile, off the West Coast, Parq Casino in Vancouver has become a gleaming downtown destination for modern-day entertainment, with gaming options paired with high-end dining and nightlife. The Rise of Online Gambling For the more digitally savvy traveler who enjoys playing online, know that Canada's well-regulated environment means those options are both within the law and safe. It's just as easy to reach online casinos and sportsbooks from that cozy lodge in Banff as it is from that high-rise hotel in Toronto. The ability to gamble with remarkable flexibility from just about anywhere has the potential to be one of the biggest selling points for those who want to take advantage of Canada's online gaming option on the go . From poker classics to innovative slot games, everything is available on online platforms with just a few clicks. In fact, most websites allow live gaming with real dealers where customers can engage in real-time gaming against live dealers. This bridges the gap between the digital and physical gambling worlds and brings all the excitement of live gaming into your accommodation without you ever having to leave it. Tips to Enjoy Gambling in Canada While traveling through the country of Canada, here are some ways you can make the most of your gambling experience: Always check the legal requirements of the province you're visiting. For instance, while gambling is not illegal in any part of Canada, each province has its own set of rules regarding land-based and online gambling. Understand them well so that you remain within the legal boundaries. Set a budget before you start gambling and stick to it. One can easily get swept away with over-excitement, but having a clear plan helps in making the experience more enjoyable without extra stress. Loyalty programs and promotions offered by many casinos will also add value to your experience and give you more bang for your buck. Lastly, if you're new to gaming or are unfamiliar with the games offered, take some time to learn the rules and strategies. More often than not, knowing the basics will give you a far better chance of enjoying the games, from blackjack to slot machines, and perhaps leaving as a winner. In a Nutshell From glamorous casino destinations to a thriving online gambling scene, Canada offers an array of gambling options to the traveler. Whether you like the more classic feel and atmosphere of brick and mortar casinos or you prefer the ease of placing a bet from your mobile device, there's something for everyone. Journalists and storytellers play a critical role in educating our community about science and conservation.
