  • Real Estate Owner & Operator Basis Industrial Expands & Purchases New Headquarters in Downtown Delray Beach, Florida for $1.57 Million

As a reflection of its continued expansion and growth, Basis Industrial, a privately held and vertically integrated real estate owner and operator, purchased the 2,272-square-foot property at 347 NE 5th Ave, Delray Beach, FL 33483, on May 24, 2024, for $1.57 million. This will serve as Basis Industrial’s new headquarters. Basis’ current headquarters is in Boca Raton, FL. Basis President/COO Anthony Scavo represented the company in the transaction. Scott Pressman of The Keyes Company represented the seller. Banesco is providing financing for the purchase. This move comes as the company has quickly expanded its presence nationally and needed a larger office space to accommodate its continued growth. Basis currently has 35 employees, up from just three in December 2020. In 2023, Basis Industrial was ranked No. 1 on South Florida Business Journal’s 2023 “Fast 50” list — the 50 fastest-growing private companies in South Florida. The two-story, freestanding building is nestled just off the bustling Atlantic Avenue in downtown Delray Beach, providing an ideal space for Basis’ corporate headquarters. It includes ample private parking onsite, abundant storage areas, a large kitchen/break area, three bathrooms (one with a shower), impact windows throughout, three A/C systems, a newer roof and newer flooring. Basis plans to build out the interior office space. With an open, modern concept, Basis also plans to hire a local mural artist to design and install a mural. Renovations will start in three months and are expected to be completed in six months. Basis plans to move into its new headquarters by the end of 2024. “We are thrilled to continue Basis Industrial’s expansion with the purchase of our new headquarters in downtown Delray Beach,” said Scavo. “It was important to find the right space that would match our current and expected future growth. We are very happy with the convenient location right off Atlantic Avenue in Palm Beach County.” For more information on Basis Industrial, visit www.basisindustrial.com. By ML Staff. • Single Dose of LSD Highly Effective at Treating Anxiety

Published: April 25, 2024 5.29pm BST Updated: April 26, 2024 11.24am BST LSD was accidentally discovered by Albert Hofmann at the Sandoz pharmaceutical company in Switzerland in 1938. It was apparently useless, but from 1947 it was marketed as “a cure for everything from schizophrenia to criminal behavior, ‘sexual perversions’, and alcoholism”. It failed to find its niche. Now, over 80 years later, it may finally have found one – other than expanding consciousness, that is. A new study shows that it is highly effective at treating generalised anxiety disorder for up to 12 weeks with just a single dose. And it is fast acting. General anxiety disorder (hereafter referred to simply as “anxiety”) is a mental health condition characterised by excessive worry, fear and anxiety about everyday situations. It affects about 6% of adults during their life. Treatments include psychotherapy, such as cognitive behavioural therapy, as well as medications, such as antidepressants and benzodiazepines. Psychotherapy is expensive and takes weeks or months, while drugs need to be taken daily for weeks, months or even years. And these can have side-effects. Benzodiazepines are very addictive, while SSRIs (the latest generation of antidepressants) have a variety of side-effects including sexual dysfunction. In addition, there are many anxious patients for whom none of the established drugs work. Clearly, new drugs for anxiety are needed. A clinical trial in the US by the biopharmaceutical company MindMed has shown that a form of LSD (lysergide d-tartrate), given at a relatively low dose, can effectively treat people with anxiety. Patients were given the drug at 25µg, 50µg, 100µg or 200µg. This was a phase 2b clinical trial, which is where different doses of a drug are tested in a group of people with the illness in question. The purpose is to find a dose that works while having acceptable side-effects. It was found that the 100µg dose was very effective while having only relatively minor side-effects. The study used the Hamilton anxiety scale to measure anxiety levels. Researchers found improvements in anxiety levels within only two days of administration of their drug. Further improvements were seen four and 12 weeks into the study. At 12 weeks, 65% of the patients were less anxious, with 48% of patients no longer meeting the clinical criteria for anxiety. The results were so remarkable that the Food and Drug Administration (the organisation that approves new drugs in the US) has designated this a “breakthrough” drug. This means the FDA will work closely with MindMed during the next phase of testing in humans (called “phase 3”). This is where a larger group, usually up to 3,000 patients, is tested. In phase 3, LSD may also be tested against established drugs for anxiety to determine if it works as well or possibly even better than those already in clinical use. Psychedelics shown to treat a range of disorders Previous studies have examined certain illicit drugs, usually hallucinogens or psychedelics, as treatments for depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety and addiction. LSD, ecstasy (MDMA), ketamine, ayahuasca and psilocybin all seem useful in various mental health conditions. A single dose of ketamine can alleviate depressive symptoms for up to a week. The current study by MindMed is the first positive single-dose study, with no psychotherapy, of LSD for anxiety. Richard Nixon’s war on drugs set psychedelics research back decades. Pictorial Press Ltd/Alamy Stock Photo It is incredible to think that the US war on drugs which started with Richard Nixon in 1970, and the consequent difficulties in scientifically examining these illicit drugs, has lasted this long. Most of these drugs were outlawed and scheduled as having “no accepted medical use”. Five decades later, we are finally finding clinical uses for these drugs. The data from the MindMed study has been sent to a top science journal for peer review, so we should not get carried away just yet. A phase 3 trial is still needed. However, if a single dose of LSD does work for 12 weeks, then this is truly remarkable. We could be on the verge of a new era of treatments for mental health problems. Words by Colin Davidson. • How to Find a Missing Person: Essential Steps and Tips

The best approach to finding a missing person is to collaborate with the authorities. However, if you believe the person’s disappearance is not related to criminal activity, you may consider searching for them independently before involving others. Keep in mind that finding someone is not as simple as entering their name into a search engine. To avoid wasting valuable time, it's crucial to use the most effective tools available. Remember, the longer a person is missing, the more challenging it may become to locate them. Image by WINDCOLORS / Adobestock Fortunately, we're here to help. Read on to learn more about how to find a missing person. When Is Someone Considered Missing? People can go missing for various reasons. While criminal activity might be the first assumption, individuals also disappear due to mental health issues or voluntary choices. Therefore, not all disappearances are the result of someone else causing harm or danger; sometimes, it is the person’s own decision. Regardless of why someone is missing, if you believe they are in danger, contact the police immediately. Statistics show that 77% of missing people are found within 24 hours, and 87% are located within 48 hours, so it's crucial to start your search as soon as possible. How To Find A Missing Person Searching for a missing person can be challenging, and the approach you take should depend on the circumstances of their disappearance. For instance, the search strategy for someone who ran away from home will differ from that for someone who was kidnapped or someone who hasn't returned from a hike. Below, you can learn more about the tools and methods you can use to find a missing person. Contact The Police The first step when someone goes missing is to contact the police. They have the resources to help you locate the missing person, and if there is a concern for their safety, they can add them to the National Crime Information Center (NCIC).  While the police cannot detain someone who hasn't committed a crime or is experiencing a mental health issue, they can inform you of their location and assist in finding them. Once found, it's important to take measures to ensure they don’t go missing again. The police can also assist in cases where someone is missing due to more sinister reasons. If you suspect someone has been taken against their will, the police and FBI are your best options. Contrary to popular belief, you do not need to wait 48 hours before reporting a missing person. If you believe someone is in danger, contact the authorities immediately. Free People Search Sites When people go missing, there is often a trail you can follow, especially if they intended to disappear. Free people search sites  like FreePeopleSearch allow you to enter someone's name, address, or phone number into a public records search tool. By entering their information, you can access a wealth of public data, including social media activity, addresses, and associates. This can be particularly useful if someone is missing or trying to hide, as you might uncover additional properties linked to them. Furthermore, FreePeopleSearch can reveal if they've been arrested, which might explain their absence. We highly recommend using FreePeopleSearch for online investigations because it provides comprehensive reports covering information from all 50 states. This means you can conduct a thorough search with a single query. Hire A Private Investigator When someone goes missing, hiring a private investigator (PI) can significantly enhance your chances of locating them. While employing a PI is more expensive than using an online tool, their specialized skills and resources make them particularly effective at finding individuals who are running away or hiding. If you believe the missing person is in danger, it is crucial to contact the authorities as well to ensure that all available resources are utilized in the search. Find A Missing Person Today People go missing for various reasons, so it’s crucial to start your search as soon as you notice something is wrong. Begin by reaching out to the missing person or their loved ones to gather any available information. If others are also concerned and you still can’t reach them, it’s time to contact the authorities and initiate a formal search. While we always recommend working with law enforcement and other agencies to find a missing person, you can also take proactive steps on your own. Using a people search tool like FreePeopleSearch can provide valuable information that may help you locate them. By ML Staff. Image courtesy of Shutterstock
