Belgian pianist Julien Libeer will return to the Miami International Piano Festival for his third appearance, performing Sunday, May 18, at the Aventura Arts and Cultural Center. The concert marks a special celebration of the 150th anniversary of French composer Maurice Ravel.

Libeer, who first appeared at the festival in 2017, has built a reputation for his thoughtful interpretations and precise technique. His return was highly anticipated by local audiences familiar with his previous performances.
This year’s program will pay tribute to Ravel, a central figure in early 20th-century music known for his intricate textures and impressionistic style. The repertoire highlights Libeer's musical insight and ability to interpret complex works with clarity and nuance.
Julien Libeer’s early influences include legendary conductor Leonard Bernstein and pianist Dinu Lipatti. He trained extensively with Jean Fassina and later with Maria João Pires, who became both mentor and collaborator. Notably, Libeer has chosen to avoid the competitive circuit, focusing instead on artistic development and collaborative performance.
Sunday’s recital is part of a broader season of the Miami International Piano Festival, which continues to bring internationally renowned pianists to South Florida.
