  • Get to Know Florida's State Flower – The Orange Blossom

The blossom of the orange tree (Citrus sinensis) is one of the most fragrant flowers in Florida. Millions of these white flowers perfume the atmosphere throughout central and south Florida during orange blossom time. The orange blossom was selected as the state flower by the 1909 legislature. The orange fruit is an important agricultural product, used for both the juicy fruit pulp and the aromatic peel (rind). Orange blossoms (the flowers) are used in several different ways, as are the leaves and wood of the tree. Flowers The orange blossom, which is the state flower of Florida, is highly fragrant and traditionally associated with good fortune. It has long been popular in bridal bouquets and head wreaths. Orange blossom essence is an important component in the making of perfume. Orange blossom petals can also be made into a delicately citrus-scented version of rosewater, known as "orange blossom water" or "orange flower water". It is a common ingredient in French and Middle Eastern cuisines, especially in desserts and baked goods. In some Middle Eastern countries, drops of orange flower water are added to disguise the unpleasant taste of hard water drawn from wells or stored in qullahs (traditional Egyptian water pitchers made of porous clay). In the United States, orange flower water is used to make orange blossom scones and marshmallows. In Spain, fallen blossoms are dried and used to make orange tea. Orange blossom honey (or citrus honey) is obtained by putting beehives in the citrus groves while trees bloom. By this method, bees also pollinate seeded citrus varieties. This type of honey has an orangey taste and is highly prized. Leaves Orange leaves can be boiled to make orange tea. Wood Orangewood sticks are used as cuticle pushers in manicures and pedicures, and as spudgers for manipulating slender electronic wires. Orangewood is used in the same way as mesquite, oak, and hickory for seasoning grilled meat. By ML Staff. Special thanks for Wikipedia for textual inserts and the State Archives of Florida. • Yasmine Cheyenne: Guiding The Path To Mental Wellness And Empowerment

Embarking on a journey that has seamlessly intertwined her roles as a native New Yorker, Air Force Veteran, Victim Advocate, and single mother advocate, Yasmine Cheyenne emerges as a beacon of hope and transformation in the realm of mental wellness. Since the resounding success of her inaugural book, The Sugar Jar, a guided manual that demonstrates how minor adjustments in one's life can go a long way by setting boundaries and ultimately breaking limiting beliefs, Yasmine has continued on to guide titans of industry like Google and NAMI.  From empowering workshops to intimate community conversations, Yasmine's holistic approach to healing extends far beyond personal growth, fostering a collective journey towards self-acceptance and aligning with purpose. As she prepares to unveil her latest literary offering, "Wisdom of The Path," Yasmine invites us to delve into the heart of her mission, where healing, growth, and collective empowerment converge. Join Yasmine for an exclusive book signing event at "Books & Books" in Coral Gables on June 17th at 7 pm, where she'll share insights from her transformative journey and offer personalized copies of her upcoming book to attendees. Miami Living (ML): Yasmine, it's a pleasure to have you with us today. Before we dive into your remarkable journey and impactful work, could you share a little about a moment or experience recently that brought you joy or inspiration? Yasmine: I love this question.  A moment that recently brought me joy was spending time with friends on a weekend trip.  I don't think I've laughed that hard in so long.  There was constant inspiration just being in their presence.  It reminded me how healing being in community is, how healing laughter is, and how my creativity thrives on being in encouraging environments like that. ML: Your journey from an Air Force Veteran to becoming a renowned self-healing workshop leader and author is truly inspiring. How did your experiences in the military shape your path towards mental wellness advocacy and self-healing work? Yasmine: I had the opportunity to serve as a Victim Advocate in the military, a role that supports victims of crime; like domestic violence, etc.  This job opened my eyes to trauma, in all forms, and I became curious about what happened to people on the other side of these experiences.  How could I know that they would get the help and healing that they needed? This job showed me that I had the capacity to hold space for really hard experiences with others, and that it didn't deplete me as long as I cared for myself too.  From there, my work in self-healing was born. ML: Your upcoming book, "Wisdom of The Path: The Beautiful and Bumpy Ride to Healing and Trusting Our Inner Guide," promises to provide clarity on the journey of self-discovery. Could you share a pivotal moment or experience that inspired you to write this book? Yasmine: Overwhelmingly, we are so hard on ourselves; I know that I'm often my own worst critic.  And I got curious about where some of that self-negativity was coming from and noticed that a lot of it stemmed from the past.  When we make mistakes or when things don't turn out the way we hoped, we sometimes turn on ourselves.  We start to lose trust in our ability to make the right decisions.  And for many of us, we stop making decisions all together and get stuck right where we are in our lives, even if we're ready to move forward.  The fear of making decisions limits our growth. I wanted to create a bridge for people, where they could walk compassionately from their past into their present and beyond, without so much judgement and harshness. What if we looked at our past as the very lessons we needed to equip us for where we're going?  What if we were kind to our past selves for doing what was best and nurtured our internal relationship toward peace?  This is the foundation of Wisdom of the Path, to encourage people to be willing to try again. ML: Singing affirmations to children is a unique and powerful method you utilize as a mother. How do you believe this practice fosters self-awareness and self-improvement in young minds, and how can parents integrate it into their daily routines effectively? Yasmine: Singing is a wonderful way to connect to my kids and often, the songs are incredibly silly, which is great for all of us.  Even though we're playing, they're memorizing these powerful words which empowers them to sing the songs to themselves when I'm not around -  and that's my hope.  I want the affirmations and words to stay with them so when they're in moments of being hard on themselves, they have these uplifting words inside them that can help them combat negativity. ML: Grief is a complex emotion that many individuals struggle to navigate. Could you share some practical tips or rituals that have personally helped you and others ground themselves after experiencing loss or grief? Yasmine: The biggest thing that's helped me with grief is allowing myself to fall apart in the arms of my community.  We often feel like a burden in grief and so we try to power through on our own.  But having people who can show up for you, hold you, and help you get back to yourself is amazing.  My tip would be to let people know how you really feel so they can be there for you.  You don't have to process the heaviness of grief on your own. ML: Your approach to healing encompasses a whole-body and mind approach, integrating practices like meditation, yoga, and journaling. For someone who may be new to these practices, where would you recommend they start, and how can they incorporate them into their daily routine for optimal mental and emotional well-being? Yasmine: Today, I'm a meditation teacher, but back in the beginning of my journey, meditation was one of the hardest things for me to do.  I talk about this in Wisdom of the Path, but I couldn't sit still, I didn't understand intention setting, I was constantly falling asleep, and I just felt like I was doing it all wrong.  The truth was, I was meeting myself right where I was at the moment and when I removed my self-imposed expectations of how I was supposed to feel, I was able to be kinder to myself. So for those who are new to these practices, I advise going slow, start small (15 minutes or less), and keep showing up...even when it's hard. ML: With such a diverse range of activities and passions, from guiding corporate giants to leading healing workshops, what's your favorite way to unwind and recharge outside of your professional endeavors? Whether it's a hobby, a guilty pleasure, or a simple ritual, we'd love to hear how you rejuvenate your spirit. Yasmine: I absolutely love cooking and trying different foods, so watching cooking shows, reading cook books, and actually spending time making dishes is my absolute favorite thing to do.  It's my favorite way to switch up my routine when things start to feel mundane, I try something new and poof!  I feel excited about it and then I start talking about my excitement, I feel my mood shift. ML: Finally, we'd love to hear about any exciting paths you envision for yourself ahead. I'm really looking forward to connecting with my community IRL more.  Virtual is amazing, but there's something really powerful about connecting in-person.  So much can shift in such a small amount of time when we gather in community. • Celebrating The Centenary: Cartier And Snapchat Are Releasing The AR Ring Try-On

The driven collaboration between French luxury jewelry brand Cartier and American tech company Snapchat is challenging its limits with a ground-breaking tech product that will hit the stage soon. After launching the AR try-on bracelet and watch in 2023, which was a smashing hit, Snapchat’s wrist-tracking tech is being used to deploy a luxury ring that can be virtually worn by integrating augmented reality features. We talk about the world-renowned product from Cartier, namely the Trinity Ring signature luxury good that’s celebrating its 100-year milestone this year. Image by Kin Shing Lai / Unsplash If this news seems mind-blowing, wait until you see how many more luxury brands are integrating augmented reality, virtual reality, artificial intelligence, and blockchain into their manufacturing operations. Numerous businesses have already taken advantage of the smart contracts enabled by Ethereum and the availability of blockchain to launch similar, ground-breaking initiatives that bridge the gap between the physical try-on room and distant consumers. Real progress is being made in this regard, so let’s discover everything about the collaboration’s brainchild and other past developments. There Was A Bracelet Once That Started It All Cartier shook hands with Snapchat to spread awareness around the team’s exclusive Icons launch by developing the collection’s debuting try-on in-app lenses. The luxury brand has successfully set itself apart with a watch and bracelet—the first duo that would permit a staking try-on, leaning on the American company’s wrist-tracking tech. Cartier’s goal was to lure Snapchatters into mixing and matching the high-end products so they knew what to expect before placing orders, undoubtedly gaining the trust of a more extensive customer base. High-impact ads were introduced to deliver interactive and immersive experiences to the audience, harbingering a new range of exclusive Snap ad options that could be used for a fee. The Tank Watch started at $2,790, representing the first spinoff of the Tank Watch in 25 years, and retails up to a whopping $94,000. Image by Kayur Jedav / Unsplash Cartier Isn’t The Trendsetter, Though Cartier isn’t the only one to join forces with Snapchat to complete such ambitious initiatives, nor is the bracelet and watch the first such an AR try-on product. Tiffany also collaborated with Snapchat in 2022, building exclusive AR try-ons to allow interested customers to see how the high-end jewelry would look on themselves. The most affordable bracelet started at $6,900, making it seem unattainable for many – but this principle didn’t apply in the virtual world. The instant chatting and picture-sending platform has teamed up with Gucci to release the AR sneaker try-on, while Dior launched the same feat for sunglasses. MAC and Estée Lauder could browse a range of foundation and eye shades to find the best fit depending on their skin tones within a few clicks. From companies’ POVs, augmented reality brings the means to revolutionize consumer experiences from the try-on experience to the mix-and-match process, leading to cuts in return rates. According to Geoffrey Perez, global head of luxury at Snapchat, these technologies are the future of luxury, so conservative businesses need to find ways to adapt to keep consumers satisfied. As the tycoon emphasized, over 250MN individuals used augmented reality day-by-day on Snap. This is a milestone in the democratization and decentralization of luxury that protects businesses from brand dilution. Taking The Holy Trinity To New Heights Cartier Trinity rings, a luxury combination of white, yellow, and rose gold designed by Louis Cartier in 1924, have made history with their fashionable appearance and the hidden significance behind the models. From King Charles to Elsie de Wolfe, the rings that boast a captivating history have lured myriad fine jewelry collectors. Ten years later, tech aficionados are invited to the game, thus spreading the lessons behind the accessory’s fabrication and creating a lasting impression of the brand, boosting awareness among Gen Z members who represent an ever-increasing shopper category. The significance behind this stacked ring design awaits boundless interpretations, from eternal friendship to a testament to endless love to a familial affection symbol inheritable by generations to come. The centenary of this revolutionizing creation is captivatingly taking the form of a digital experience with Snap Inc., enabling anyone to learn more about the brand and get closer to it. Image by Iryna / Adobestock The Beau Ideal Of All Fine Jewelry Art Gets A Digital Twist Often considered the epitome of first-class jewelry, Cartier welcomes buzzy technology solutions to demonstrate that conventionalism and traditionalism hold on in the digital era where AR, VR, AI, and blockchain technology make the rules. However, AR-fueled tech isn't all the rage, being somewhat outshined by the AI frenzy and the expansion of gaming experiences. This is why this year is a memorable one, where hyper-realism and computer-generated imagery visuals pick up steam in the world of refined luxury and out-of-home marketing. Now it’s time for Cartier and Snapchat to shine with the ground-breaking take on the UX, so keep tabs on their collaboration to see what else may come out. Cartier’s phygital experiences help achieve a surreal level of realism that can’t help but attract a considerable share of customers from slow-witted rivals. Now, Will You Try It On? Snapchatters have a knack for augmented reality to see how luxury products would look on them, and you can try it, too. You’re likely a few taps away from the end result, assuming you have yet to have the Snap logo in your phone’s menu. The Cartier Trinity Ring Lens assists your digital collection navigation, helping you send orders from wherever you are if you feel the items bring a plus of value. The X-factor here is the Ray Tracing feature that reproduces the light you normally see when trying the ring in the physical store. The lens is also improved with machine learning, shortened ML, to better reflect your hand’s shape, size, and skin tone under the jewelry. As you will see, you’ll get a surprisingly accurate visual interpretation that will help you determine the product’s place in your life. And hopefully, the lessons learned will help you make better decisions next time you go jewelry shopping.
