- Gabriella Pession's Journey into Acting and Beyond
Embarking on a journey that has traversed continents and cultures, Gabriella Pession's life story reads like an odyssey of its own. Born in Daytona, Florida, her upbringing as a competitive ice skater whisked her across the globe, from the bustling streets of LA and NY to the historic cities of London, Dublin, and even Russia. When a broken ankle redirected her path towards acting, she has since propelled herself to the forefront of the international stage. Recently, Gabriella wrapped filming on Peacock's epic drama "Those About to Die," alongside luminaries like Anthony Hopkins, while simultaneously delving into the ambitious international co-production tv series “The Count of Montecristo." Beyond the screen, she's carving her own narrative as a screenwriter, crafting the compelling TV series "Mamma, non mamma." With a career spanning over two decades and spanning genres from television to theatre, Gabriella's dynamic presence has captivated audiences worldwide. Join us as we explore the tapestry of her multifaceted career and vibrant life journey. Miami Living (ML): Gabriella, it’s such a pleasure to have you with us at Miami Living Magazine! You’ve had an amazing career journey so far. Can you tell us what first ignited your love for acting and how your passion has grown and changed over the years? Gabriella: Thank you! I’m very happy to be able do this interview with Miami Living. I started my career kind of by accident. Really the cinema pulled me from the shirt, that’s how we say in Italian. Because I was an ice skater and I wasn’t really thinking about acting at all. My parents were both working in the fashion industry in Milan in the 80’s, when fashion had the top top models and amazing Italian stylists like Versace, Armani, Valentino, Dolce Gabbana, so it was really the hot moment for Italian fashion. But I was never particularly interested in modeling. And then Lina Wertmuller, who was the director of Swept Away, she was the first woman ever nominated to an Academy Award ever, and she was looking for her lead for 3 years. And for a movie called “Ferdinando and Carolina”, she cast me as a lead after an audition I did, but I really had never acted before. So that really happened by chance, I guess it was kind of meant to be. So I started acting from the main door with my maestro, Lina, whom I consider my biggest teacher and maestro, and then over time I fell in love with acting and cinema. But in my heart I was an athlete. So it was a slow kind of love, starting from being on the set out of the blue, and really questioning if that was really what I wanted to do. Lina told me I had a great talent and apparently I was very good, but I really had no idea what I was doing even though I was playing the lead directed by her and really guided by her, so I’ve learned everything through Lina. So that’s how I started, the main role in a very goo movie, and that was my first experience on the set. And after this, obviously other things came along, and slowly I understood I really wanted to continue this career, I fell in love with acting, theater, the set, and here I am. ML: You're starring as Antonia in Peacock’s new “series Those About to Die," an epic “sword-and-scandal” series that draws parallels between ancient gladiators and modern entertainment. What attracted you to this role? Gabriella: Antonia is the role I’ve been waiting for over 20 years of career. She’s the role that I think every actress would love to play. Wild, fun, clever, a bit thorough but also vulnerable, very very political in a way. She has diplomatic intelligence, very manipulative intelligence, she can use femininity and cruelty with a mixture of sensuality and sexuality when she needs to. So above everything this role is a lot of fun. She is a Patrician, she’s noble and she lives in a man’s world. When she needs to impose herself through her cleverness. Not only the presence and the beauty that she has, but it’s really the intelligence that she has that pulls her forward in the society that is really driven by men at that time. So she is like a woman with courage that lives in a man’s world, but she is playing everything behind the scenes, but really moving things forward with her feminine power. ML: You've worked alongside some incredible talents, such as Anthony Hopkins. Is there a particular moment or piece of advice from a co-star or director that has profoundly impacted your career or approach to acting? Gabriella: I think the best advice that i’ve ever had was from Lina Wertmuller again, when in the first movie I did with her, I was around 18, she told me “remember, the cinema thinks and the theater speaks”, which means you have to basically do nothing in cinema, because the camera can really get into you, you don’t have to do that much to actually do the work. But the theater speaks, so the theater is much bigger and it’s not about thinking. So I think this concept of the cinema thinking and the theater speaking is amazing advice that always stayed with me. ML: You’ve had the chance to film in some of the world’s most beautiful cities. Do you have a favorite filming location, and what made it so special? Gabriella: My favorite location ever is also the city I chose to live in too, and that’s Rome. Shooting in Rome is something completely epic. I’ve shot a lot of scenes here in 20 years, and it always surprises me, I never get used to it, it’s always breathtaking the beauty of this place, it’s so epic. So I would say for sure Rome, but I also had the luck to shoot a tv series called “Capri”, and we actually shot in Capri for two years. So I had the luck to really live on the island for two years and shoot in the Amalfi coast. It was very fortunate to wake up there and see the sunshine and jump in the water during our work breaks with the crew on set. It's a memory that I will always have with me. ML: Directed by Bille August, “The Count of Montecristo" promises to be an ambitious project. What was it like collaborating with Bille, and how did his vision influence your portrayal of your character? Gabriella: Billie August was one of my favorite directors of all-time. I love “Pelle the Conquereor” that won the Academy Awards many years ago, and the “House of Spirits”, so not only this, but he grew up in the world of Ingmar Bergman, who is one of my favorite directors ever, along with Federico Fellini. So when I got the chance to work with Billie, I was very honored. He is very gentle, refined, elegant, a kind of quiet director. He has an elegance and a light touch, he can catch the moment in just one take. And I remember asking him, “Can I do another take?”, and he would say, “no no no, this is perfect”. Because he knows exactly what he needs, and if he sees it, he’s happy with one take. So it was amazing to work with him because he has a clarity of what he wants, so it makes it easier for an actor to work with him. And he allows an actor to be really creative, in terms of working with the character. He really allowed me to work on my character on my own and really make some proposals, and he accepted the proposals and allows you to have creative space to make the role your own, even though it comes from a novel that is very famous. So I think this clash of having the base of an amazing role written by an amazing author like Dumas, but also having a maestro like Billie allows you to be creative and contain you in what he needs and what he thinks works for the role, gives an actor a lot of security and a lot of safety, to really expand your creativity and not be afraid also to improvise or push yourself into areas that are kind of unknown. Because you know you have someone who knows exactly what he’s doing and what is needed to make the project amazing. ML: Your work with WeWorld is truly admirable. Can you tell us more about your involvement with the organization and why supporting women and children in vulnerable communities is so important to you? Gabriella: I’ve been working with WeWorld for many years. I’ve always been very conscious and very attracted to everything that has to do with women’s rights, and so it’s something that really spoke to me very strongly since a very young age. I also met them when I was shooting a tv series called "Rossella". It was a period tv series and was about the first women in the 1900’s that was able to denounce and go to court to denounce her husband of domestic violence. At that time, if you were suffering abuse from your husband, it was not recognized as a crime in Italy or worldwide. So when I played this role, I met WeWorld and we did a campaign to really promote the courage for women to speak out loud if they are victim of any kind of violence - physical, psychological. We worked together to bring sensibility to femicide in Italy. We have a very high number of women getting killed in our country each year, which is frightening and absolutely appalling. So WeWorld has been amazing in this, and through me and my public work, we work together to make this reality more known in the bigger scales, and basically just talk about the issue. So that is something that I really want to continue to do more consistently. We are still in a world where women do not have the same rights as men yet. So there is still a lot to be done and we need to continue talking with grace and not fighting against men and making a gender war. Because I have a lot of amazing male friends, and I have a son, and I have an amazing husband, so I think that’s the point, But it’s really to continue to talk in order that women can get a voice and can be heard the same, because in many places in the world this is not a reality yet. So this is what I really want to continue to do in the future. ML: Amidst your diverse career and rich experiences, what’s one thing about you that fans might be surprised to learn? Gabriella: I think one thing that my fans would maybe be curious to know is that I am absolutely obsessed with tennis. My little boy who is nearly ten plays tennis nearly every day, and through him I fell in love with this amazing sport, in the best time of Italian tennis since we have Jannik Sinner playing #1 in the ranking, and so for the first time there is an Italian tennis player at the top of the ranking. So basically what I do in my free time is play tennis, I watch tennis, I go to some tennis matches, or I dream about tennis. That’s really the biggest hobby I have. And I’m off to Wimbledon next week, which I cannot wait, hoping to see Alcaraz and Sinner in a big big match. ML: Given your impressive accomplishments as an actress, writer, and producer, what legacy do you hope to leave in the entertainment industry, and what are your dreams for the future of your career? Gabriella: For my future I’m really looking forward to starring in “Hedda Gabler” directed by Patrick Marber, we are finalizing the production and I will go on stage around the end of 2025, beginning of 2026. And that’s really an amazing achievement for me theater-wise. And I’m really really hoping to continue with the second season of “Those About To Die”. I’m also finishing the script for the show that I’m co-writing with another three female authors - "Mamma, non mamma." It’s the first show that comes out from one of my ideas, and I’m so excited, it has been an amazing journey. And I will be shooting next year as well between Tuscany and Milan. So these three things are my future goals at the moment. And most of all just continuing being really happy with what I have. I’m in a really good place, so if that stays the same it would be a gift. - Timeless Elegance: Exploring the Legacy and Craftsmanship of Rolex Watches
The name Rolex is synonymous with luxury, precision, and timeless elegance. Since its inception, Rolex has stood as a beacon of high craftsmanship and enduring quality in the world of watchmaking. This article delves into the rich legacy, meticulous craftsmanship, and iconic status of Rolex watches, offering readers an in-depth understanding of why these timepieces remain unparalleled in the industry. Image by abubakers12k / Pixabay The Legacy of Rolex Rolex's journey began in 1905 when Hans Wilsdorf and Alfred Davis founded the company in London. Initially focused on importing Swiss movements and placing them in high-quality cases, Rolex quickly established a reputation for precision and reliability. By 1910, a Rolex watch became the first wristwatch to receive the Swiss Certificate of Chronometric Precision, setting a new standard in the industry. Rolex's history is marked by numerous groundbreaking innovations. In 1926, the brand introduced the Oyster, the world's first waterproof wristwatch, revolutionizing watch design. The creation of the Perpetual movement in 1931 further cemented Rolex's place in horological history. Over the years, models like the Submariner, Daytona, and Datejust have become icons, each representing a milestone in the evolution of watchmaking. Rolex's influence extends beyond its own brand. The company's innovations have shaped the entire watchmaking industry. The emphasis on waterproof designs, automatic movements, and robust construction has set benchmarks that many other brands strive to meet. Rolex's dedication to precision has also contributed significantly to advancements in timekeeping standards. Craftsmanship of Rolex Watches At the heart of every Rolex watch lies a commitment to precision engineering. Rolex adheres to the highest Swiss watchmaking standards, ensuring that each timepiece offers exceptional accuracy and reliability. The brand's meticulous approach to design and manufacturing guarantees that every watch performs flawlessly under various conditions. Rolex's use of premium materials sets it apart from many other luxury watchmakers. The brand employs Oystersteel, a highly durable and corrosion-resistant alloy, along with gold, platinum, and precious stones. Advanced manufacturing processes, combined with traditional hand-finishing techniques, ensure that each watch is not only a functional timepiece but also a work of art. One of the key factors behind Rolex's unparalleled quality is its vertically integrated production model. Rolex manufactures nearly every component of its watches in-house, maintaining strict quality control throughout the production process. This approach allows the brand to oversee every detail, from the movement's intricate mechanics to the watch's final assembly and finishing. Image by poedynchuk / Pixabay Iconic Rolex Models The Rolex Submariner, introduced in 1953, is renowned for its robustness and association with underwater exploration. Designed for divers, it was the first watch to be water-resistant to 100 meters. The Submariner's distinctive design, featuring a rotating bezel and luminescent markers, has made it a favorite among both professional divers and watch enthusiasts. The Rolex Daytona, launched in 1963, has a storied connection to motorsports. Named after the famous Daytona International Speedway, this model was designed for racing drivers, offering a high-precision chronograph function. Its association with legendary figures like Paul Newman has only enhanced its iconic status, making it one of the most sought-after models in the Rolex lineup. Introduced in 1945, the Rolex Datejust was the first wristwatch to feature a date display that changed automatically at midnight. Its timeless design and versatility have made it a cornerstone of the Rolex collection. Whether brand new or a used Rolex Datejust , this model continues to captivate watch enthusiasts with its classic appeal. Available in various materials and sizes, the Datejust caters to diverse tastes while maintaining its classic appeal. Rolex in Popular Culture Rolex watches have graced the wrists of countless characters in movies and television shows, solidifying their status as symbols of sophistication and success. Perhaps most famously, James Bond's character has worn Rolex watches in several films, starting with Sean Connery's portrayal in "Dr. No." This association with the suave secret agent has added an extra layer of allure to the brand. Over the years, Rolex has been endorsed by numerous celebrities, from sports legends like Roger Federer to Hollywood stars like Jennifer Aniston. These endorsements have helped to reinforce Rolex's image as a brand associated with achievement and prestige. The presence of Rolex watches at high-profile events and on the red carpet further amplifies their appeal. The collector's market for Rolex watches is vibrant and dynamic, with vintage models fetching record-breaking prices at auctions. The rarity and historical significance of certain models, such as the "Paul Newman" Daytona, make them highly coveted among collectors. This demand has driven the value of vintage Rolex watches to new heights, reflecting their status as timeless treasures. The Future of Rolex Rolex continues to innovate, introducing new models and refining existing ones with advanced technology. Recent advancements include the development of more efficient movements, enhanced materials, and improved functionality. The brand's ability to blend tradition with modernity ensures that its watches remain relevant and desirable. In recent years, Rolex has also focused on sustainability, implementing practices that minimize environmental impact. The brand emphasizes ethical sourcing of materials, reducing waste, and adopting sustainable manufacturing processes. These efforts demonstrate Rolex's commitment to not only preserving its legacy but also protecting the planet for future generations. Image by mauriciodds / Pixabay Conclusion Rolex watches are more than just timepieces; they are symbols of timeless elegance and exceptional craftsmanship. From their rich history and groundbreaking innovations to their cultural impact and future ambitions, Rolex watches encapsulate the very essence of luxury. Whether worn by divers, racers, celebrities, or collectors, a Rolex watch is a testament to the enduring appeal of quality and sophistication. By ML Staff. Images courtesy of Adobestock
- Women Ceramicists & the Cuban Avant-Garde At the Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum
The Lost Generation: Women Ceramicists and the Cuban Avant-Garde examines the participants and artistic output from 1949 to 1959 of the Taller de Santiago de las Vegas, a ceramic workshop on the outskirts of Havana. A decade of artistic experimentation primarily by little-known women ceramicists had deep reverberations both for the acceptance of ceramics as a fine art form in Cuba and for the symbiotic relationship that flourished between the ceramicists and the painters, largely men, who visited the Taller to learn the craft. The painters in turn applied new techniques and methodologies to their two-dimensional production, now regarded as synonymous with the Cuban avant-garde ( vanguardia ). At the helm of the Taller was a physician, Juan Miguel Rodríguez de la Cruz, who formed and fired the ceramics and hired mainly women, many of whom were trained at the prestigious Academia San Alejandro and other fine arts schools, to decorate the wares. These ceramicists created their own styles, establishing an artistic movement that garnered national and international recognition. Rebeca Robés Massés, Marta Arjona, María Elena Jubrías, Mirta García Buch, Amelia Peláez, and numerous others were key ceramicists at the Taller. They and Rodríguez de la Cruz welcomed the participation of renowned modernist painters, including René Portocarrero, Wifredo Lam, Raúl Milián, Luis Martínez Pedro, and Mariano Rodríguez. The trajectory of ceramics following the Cuban Revolution of 1959 is also explored in the exhibition; many of those who worked at the Taller went on to found their own independent workshops, furthering the commercialization, and acceptance, of fine art modernist ceramics on the island. Featuring vases, mugs, water jugs, murals, and plates drawn from premier private and gallery collections, The Lost Generation displays for the first time many of the Taller’s finest ceramics in conversation with dozens of paintings by Peláez, Portocarrero, Lam, Martínez Pedro, Mariano, and others. Organized by the McMullen Museum of Art, Boston College, The Lost Generation has been curated by Elizabeth Thompson Goizueta and underwritten by Boston College with major support from the Patrons and the Hispanic Art Initiative of the McMullen Museum. At the Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum, The Lost Generation is funded by FIU CasaCuba and generously sponsored by Cernuda Arte. - The 2024 ESPYS Celebrated Prince Harry, Dawn Staley, Caitlin Clark, Patrick Mahomes & More
Hosted by Serena Williams, the Awards Show Featured Appearances from Ciara, Draymond Green, Drew Brees, Jennifer Garner, Lil Wayne, Nikki Glaser, Quinta Brunson, Rob Lowe & more, On Thursday evening, some of the biggest stars in sports and entertainment gathered at The Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles to celebrate the year’s best moments in sports at The 2024 ESPYS presented by Capital One . The show, which aired live on ABC, was hosted by tennis legend and cultural icon Serena Williams and featured appearances by Andy Reid, Candace Parker, Colman Domingo, Draymond Green, Drew Brees, Jennifer Garner, Lil Wayne, Nikki Glaser, Paige Bueckers, Quinta Brunson, Rob Lowe, Venus Williams , and more. The show opened with an electric performance by Ciara who sang a medley of her well-known hits “Goodies,” “1, 2, Step” and “Level Up.” Williams took the stage next for her opening monologue - she kept the audience laughing with clever quips about Kendrick Lamar and Drake, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce, and Will Smith. She also joked that she didn’t want Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who were in the audience, to take attention away from her on her big night. Later in the show, Williams surprised the audience with two musical performances. The first a response to Jamie Foxx's 2003 ESPYS “ode” to Serena ("Tennis Ball"), and the second about her relationship with Maria Sharapova. Each year, The ESPYS recognizes individuals in the sports world who have demonstrated admirable strength and bravery in the face of adversity with three marquee awards: the Arthur Ashe Award for Courage, the Jimmy V Award for Perseverance, and the Pat Tillman Award for Service. Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex was honored with the Pat Tillman Award for Service in recognition of his tireless work making a positive impact for the veteran community through the power of sport. After serving for 10 years in the British Armed Forces, Prince Harry founded The Invictus Games Foundation, continuing his service by creating an international platform to support wounded, injured, and sick servicemen and women who are navigating both physical and invisible injuries. Veterans and former Pat Tillman Award recipients Kirstie Ennis, Israel Del Toro , and Elizabeth Marks presented the award to him while his wife Meghan Markle and members of the Pat Tillman Foundation showed their support from the audience. In his acceptance speech, he talked about polarization, division, and conflicts around the globe fueled by a lack of understanding for people who are different. - Vacheron Constantin's 'The Pleats of Time' – A Concept Watch & Égérie Moon Phase
This is a singular creation, as much for its looks as for the creative process leading to its birth. The Égérie concept watch stems from an artistic collaboration between Vacheron Constantin and Yiqing Yin, a "One of Not Many" talent. A “One of Not Many” creation United in their quest for refinement and a shared vision of excellence, the Manufacture and the Haute Couture designer have come up with the Égérie The Pleats of time, a concept watch. This creation orchestrates a dialogue between three worlds: Haute Horlogerie, Haute Couture and Haute Parfumerie. The roundness of the 37 mm pink gold case embellished with diamonds, the ‘pleats’ pattern adorning the powdered lilac dial, as well as the asymmetrical geometry so cherished by the Maison whose name appears at 8 o'clock in a diagonal with the moon phase and crown at 2 o'clock… All combine to create a refined and original feminine silhouette into which Yiqing Yin has instilled an aesthetic appeal that awakens the senses. The Maison and the Haute Couture designer also called on French master perfumer Dominique Ropion to craft an original fragrance that is encapsulated in the watch strap. Above and beyond the object, a sensory experience Under Yiqing Yin’s impetus, the Égérie collection reveals a new facet of its personality through a markedly different aesthetic, infused with the designer’s inimitably ethereal universe. The dial is freed from hour-markers, extending an invitation to experience time in an intuitive and emotional way. Crafted in mother-of-pearl, it is draped in a ‘pleats’ pattern that unfolds in two stages across its entire surface: in the centre, encircled by fine gold ‘pearls’, as well as around the edge, extending the folds and hollows. Yiqing Yin chose a soft lilac colour, "a feminine, evanescent shade like a delicate embodiment of a daydream". This hue also adorns the moon phase sculpted in mother-of-pearl. A row of diamonds enhances the complication, swept over by extremely slender hours, minutes and seconds hands. Yiqing Yin has designed an exclusive strap adorned with exquisite artistic embroidery, in which mother-of-pearl shards are inlaid between silk threads. According to the designer, "this work recounts the sinuous course of water in a natural landscape, unfurling its scalloped volutes, somewhere between the fragility of shed snakeskin and the elegance of abstract lace. The irregularities adorning the strap bear the imprint of the human hand, creating a visual dialogue with the pure geometry of the dial.” Invisible yet essential to the personality of this timepiece, a fragrance imagined by master perfumer Dominique Ropion is encapsulated in the strap. A scent of innovation The dedicated fragrance specially created for this concept watch stems from numerous exchanges between the master perfumer and the Haute Couture designer. "Dominique is an alchemist of emotions. Our initial idea was to create a watch offering a singular and sensorial perception of time”, says Yiqing Yin. Then came a wealth of creative and brainstorming sessions to combine emotions and formulas until the scent that would embody the Égérie - The Pleats of Time watch came to life. As Dominique Ropion explains when evoking the core aims of the process, it was about "creating a fragrance that would be universal, like time itself. A mineral scent with pastel, wintry, powdery and iridescent notes, playing with the sun and wisps of smoke. ”To ensure this fragrance would echo Yiqing Yin's approach, a meticulous combination of ingredients was created: a mineral and marine accord of ozonic notes and galbanum; notes of lavender and orange blossom; winter freshness based on a honeysuckle and immortelle accord; iridescent highlights with tuberose and ylang-ylang; sunshine in a bottle conveyed by orange and lemon; wisps of time passing through incense (olibanum, myrrh, opoponax) and oud. Once the fragrance had been defined, the idea was to encapsulate it in the heart of the strap and "accept the passage of time in order to breathe and be receptive to wonder", as Yiqing Yin points out. This led to a comprehensive innovative process in which the droplets of fragrance concentrate were encapsulated. Each component of the strap (lining, loop, embroidery, etc.) was then steeped in these encapsulations. The perfume contained in the nanocapsules is released randomly, as the strap rubs against the skin and in step with wrist movements. A dress to prolong the experience To accompany the Égérie concept watch, Yiqing Yin created a Haute Couture dress epitomising its spirit and which she describes in these terms: “The light fabrics swirl around the body, creating a pleated, swirling showcase of supernatural hues, evoking the moiré dial diffractions. This undulating silhouette, in harmony with the body, offers a suppleness suspended in time, culminating in the wearer’s movement and the caress of the elements. The evolving volume of the skirt unfolds in sunburst pleats, composed of cascades of iridescent satin that continue their journey in silk chiffon, creating superimposed transparency effects and ever-changing silky reflections that capture the splendour of each given moment. Inspired by the vitality of the elements, this creation celebrates movement’s inherent beauty, where infinity is gracefully reflected in fluidity.” Exploring the latest fabric technologies, the designer combines manual bath-dyeing with eco-sensitive nanodyeing, steeping fibres and fabrics in mineral powders to create gradient-type haloes. This bespoke gown with its singular allure thus weaves symbolic and visual ties between Haute Couture, Haute Parfumerie and Haute Horlogerie. Égérie moon phase A creative collaboration with Yiqing Yin Inspired by the refinement of Haute Couture and Vacheron Constantin's aesthetic heritage, the Égérie collection welcomes a moon phase watch issued in a 100-piece limited series developed with designer Yiqing Yin. Paired with a choice of three interchangeable straps, this edition with its 37 mm pink gold case and gemset bezel adopts subtle lilac hues while retaining the collection’s aesthetic codes: the mother-of-pearl dial is alternately smooth or decorated with a “pleats” motif, while the moon phase appears as part of a subtle diagonal line formed by the Vacheron Constantin logo and the crown. An original creative collaboration Since its 2020 debut, the Égérie collection has established its style credentials in the world of Haute Horlogerie dedicated to women. Picking up its aesthetic codes and instilling a new creative dimension were at the heart of the project developed with Yiqing Yin in giving life to the new Égérie moon phase that reflects her creative universe. Recognisable by the ethereal allure of her creations and the blurred lines of her silhouettes structured by dainty pleated and draped effects, the designer's signature is reflected in the work on the dial whose centre is adorned with a pleated mother-of-pearl motif. Yiqing Yin's stylistic territory is also echoed by the choice of mother-of-pearl colour, which recalls her creation’s silvery mauve fabrics, overlaid with soft lilac or moiré Parma violet colours. According to Yiqing Yin, who has also chosen pastel shades for the three interchangeable straps, "these feminine, evanescent shades are the delicate embodiment of daydreams.” An exclusive 100-piece limited edition Softness, daydreams, elegance: these words apply equally well to Yiqing Yin's creations as to the new Égérie moon phase watch. Softness is reflected in the lilac-coloured mother-of-pearl dial, which is either smooth or decorated with a pleated motif, echoing the first Égérie models. Mother-of-pearl, a particularly fragile material, has been meticulously crafted to create the pleated pattern surrounded by individually hand-applied fine gold ‘pearls’. The interpretation of the moon phase, also adorned with lilac mother-of-pearl and festooned with diamonds, is undeniably dreamlike. Elegance pervades the entire timepiece, expressed in the contours of the 37 mm diamond-set pink gold case, in the slender hands reminiscent of dressmakers’ nimble fingers, as well as in the Égérie collection’s characteristic asymmetry: a crown set at 2 o'clock aligned with the moon phase and the Vacheron Constantin inscription at 8 o'clock. Clearly visible through the transparent caseback, in-house Calibre 1088 L ensures accurate timekeeping, while its hand-crafted Côtes de Genève motif is swept over by the delicately openworked 22-carat gold oscillating weight inspired by the shape of the Maltese cross. This Haute Horlogerie signature is echoed by that of Yiqing Yin, whose name is engraved in full on the back, along with the number of this highly exclusive 100-piece limited edition. A watch offering pleasurable variety The Égérie moon phase watch owes its versatility to an ingenious system of interchangeable straps, present since the launch of the collection. In the blink of an eye, these enable the wearer to play on textures or create contrasts: lilac alligator leather for an elegant tone-on-tone effect, night blue satin-effect calfskin or powder pink grained calfskin leather. From Geometry to Artistry, the Maison’s annual theme A Vacheron Constantin watch is far more than merely the sum of its parts. Starting from a sketch, a geometrical drawing and its technical extensions, a whole world of shapes, colours and textures is born. The complex structures of mechanical engineering combine with design; meticulous detail gives life to grace; artisanal intelligence sparks emotions. Based on formal, mathematical study, Vacheron Constantin timepieces are thus endowed with a touch of soulfulness and elegance representing the ultimate expression of artistic talent. The classicism of the Traditionnelle collection; the minimalism of the Patrimony watches; the allure of Égérie; and the sporty-chic spirit of Overseas: all vividly illustrate this alchemy within which art is inspired by geometric shapes, expressed through Vacheron Constantin’s 2024 theme. About Yiqing Yin A graduate of ENSAD (École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs de Paris), Yiqing Yin was awarded the Grand Prix de la Création de la Ville de Paris in 2009. In 2011, she won the ANDAM Prize for First Collections at the ANDAM Fashion Award Paris and held her first catwalk show during the Paris Fashion Week. She worked in the world of dance, designing the stage outfits of étoile ballet dancers Dorothée Gilbert and Mathieu Ganio for their performance in Tristan and Isolde directed by Giorgio Mancini.Yiqing Yin has been a regular guest at art exhibitions around the world, including A World of Feathers at the Museum of Ethnography in Stockholm, or the Animalia Fashion exhibition in Florence, among others. She has also contributed to the creation of costumes for a number of films, including Leos Carax's Annette in 2020, for which she designed the dress worn by Marion Cotillard.Since 2023, Yiqing Yin has been involved in the creation of a futuristic work, exploring the anthropology and archaeology of the future, part of the French Ministry of Culture's Mondes Nouveaux programme, due to open at the end of 2024. About Dominique Ropion His fellow perfumers consider Dominique to be an immense talent, indeed the greatest master perfumer currently exercising this art. The word ‘smell’ lies at the heart of Dominique's inner ‘reactor’, his passion, his very essence. Dominique's ambition is to rival animals’ sense of smell while bringing an artistic vision to bear. This is Dominique's first invitation to a taste of freedom, an invitation to unite mind and body, another of Dominique's great and generous gifts. Dominique sees the composition of perfumes as a mystical and mathematical act, expressing the creative power of a number and its combinations: “You take two raw materials and put them together, discover how they interact, memorise them, before picking three, then four, like Johann Sebastian Bach's cello suites. Perfumers keep count when they work: they count evaporation in minutes and hours, observe how a fragrance behaves and track its imprint over time.” Dominique Ropion has created some of the world’s most successful fragrances. He is a master perfumer at IFF, the New York-based global leader in the fragrance, bioscience, health, food and beverage industries. IFF's perfume artists have been practising for six decades and form a creative team that is as visionary as it is eclectic. In IFF's NYC headquarters, as well as in Paris, Grasse, Sao Paulo, Shanghai and elsewhere, its perfume artists create olfactory works ranging from international successes to more exclusively distributed products.
