  • Olympic & Paralympic Games Paris 2024: LVMH Salutes the Performance of Its Athletes, Artisans of All Victories!

As part of the premium partnership between LVMH and Paris 2024, LVMH has been providing direct support ahead of the Games to athletes whose exemplary achievements make them Artisans of All Victories . Together with several of its Maisons, the Group is supporting seven exceptional Olympic and Paralympic athletes: Antoine Dupont (rugby sevens) Léon Marchand (swimming) Mélanie de Jesus dos Santos (artistic gymnastics)  Enzo Lefort (fencing)   Pauline Déroulède (wheelchair tennis)  Marie Patouillet (para-cycling)  Timothée Adolphe (para-athletics)   Antoine Dupont  Capped over 50 times for France’s 15-a-side team, Antoine Dupont is an exceptionally talented rugby player. At 27, the French half-scrum has already earned an impressive array of titles in 15-a-side rugby. He was voted World Rugby Men’s Player of the Year in 2021, won the Six Nations title in 2022, and has earned three Top 14 titles and the European Cup in club competition. At the Olympic and Paralympic Games Paris 2024, the LVMH and Louis Vuitton Ambassador is trying a different rugby format – rugby sevens – in an attempt to win his first Olympic medal.  Antoine’s journey at the Olympic Games Paris 2024 July 27: Olympic champion! France has come first in the rugby sevens final against Fidji, giving Antoine Dupont his first Olympic medal! Finale score: 26-7  Léon Marchand  Five-time swimming world champion and Ambassador for LVMH and Louis Vuitton, Toulouse-born Léon Marchand is among France’s leading Olympic medal hopes. The son of former swimmers, he became France’s 200-meter butterfly champion in 2019, making him the first French swimmer to obtain such a title at the tender age of 17. Now 23, Léon has qualified for the Olympic and Paralympic Games Paris 2024 in four individual events: 200-meter medley, 400-meter medley, 200-meter butterfly and 200-meter breaststroke.  Léon’s journey at the Olympic Games Paris 2024   July 28: Today, Léon Marchand competed in his first event at the Olympic and Paralympic Games Paris 2024: the 400-meter individual medley. This was also his most highly anticipated event, because the young Frenchman currently holds the world record.   Leon Marchand took Olympic gold with a record time of 4.2min in the 400m 4-swim, winning his first Olympic title. Mélanie de Jesus dos Santos  Eight-time French champion and four-time European champion, Mélanie de Jesus dos Santos is one of France’s most promising gymnasts. The young LVMH and Dior Ambassador has won international admiration for her talent, determination and resilience in a career marked by injuries. After a disappointing result at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, Mélanie put her sporting career on hold – but not for long! She relocated to the United States, where she regained her enthusiasm and desire to win by training alongside superstar gymnast Simone Biles. Today, the young Frenchwoman is competing at the Olympic and Paralympic Games Paris 2024, both individually and as part of the national team.  July 28: Mélanie de Jesus Dos Santos and the French artistic gymnastics team lost out in the qualifying round of the all-round competition. That's the end of the competition for our athlete. Enzo Lefort  LVMH and Louis Vuitton Ambassador Enzo Lefort has one of the most impressive records in French fencing. At 32, he’s won numerous titles in French, European and world championships, including world individual foil fencing champion in 2019 and 2022. He was also a team Olympic gold medalist in Tokyo in 2021 and a team Olympic silver medalist in Rio in 2016. With three Olympic Games already under his belt, Enzo Lefort is poised to leave an even greater mark on the history of fencing, having set his sights on two gold medals in Paris – individual and team.    Enzo’s journey at the Olympic Games Paris 2024 July 29: Despite a very fine performance, French fencer Enzo Lefort lost out in the quarter-finals of the individual foil event. See you in a few days' time for the team event. Pauline Déroulède LVMH and Dior Ambassador is three-time consecutive French champion in wheelchair tennis and currently ranks 13th in the world. The athlete’s life changed radically in October 2018 when she was hit by a car and had her left leg amputated. Almost ironically, she says, this dramatic event spurred her to take up tennis again and set her sights on a new goal – winning gold at the Paralympic Games Paris 2024.  Marie Patouillet  Born with a malformation of the left foot, Marie Patouillet practiced many sports until arthritis limited her options to swimming and cycling. A general practitioner with more than 10 years of military service, she discovered her passion for para-cycling during an amateur “L’Etape by Tour de France” race. Since then, she’s been racking up the victories, including two bronze medals in Tokyo in 2021. The 35-year-old athlete and Ambassador for LVMH and Dior is now on a quest for gold at the Paralympic Games Paris 2024. She’s also a vocal advocate for more inclusion and less discrimination in high-level sports: these commitments, she says, are more important than her medals. Timothée Adolphe  Renowned French para-athlete Timothée Adolphe is the 200-meter European record-holder and has won 20 gold medals at French championships and six at European championships. The visually-impaired 34-year-old began training as a sprinter in the late 2010s and has since logged a host of impressive performances and records. After being disqualified at the Paralympic Games in Rio in 2016 for stepping on the line and then again in Tokyo in 2021 for losing contact with his guide, the French sprinter and Ambassador for LVMH and Louis Vuitton is now single-mindedly focused on his goal of Paralympic gold – the ultimate prize to crown an exceptional career.  ML Staff. • Jaeger-Lecoultre Presents the Duometre Heliotourbillon Perpetual

Over the course of almost two centuries, Jaeger-LeCoultre has distinguished itself through the development of increasingly sophisticated means of achieving the perfect regularity of the ‘heartbeat’ of its calibres – essential for accurate timekeeping. Among the key areas of research in this pursuit of precision, the Manufacture has developed great expertise in tourbillons and also invented the Duometre mechanism, which enables the addition of complications without any compromise to the accuracy of the timekeeping function.  In 2024, Jaeger-LeCoultre unites these two lines of development, to create the Duometre Heliotourbillon Perpetual. Pushing the boundaries of inventiveness further than ever, the new Calibre 388 features an entirely new tourbillon construction: one that spins on three axes to create a ‘spinning top’ effect. Beating at a frequency of 4Hz (28,800 vph) to further enhance chronometry, Calibre 388 also incorporates a perpetual calendar with a grande date indication. The Duometre Concept – a Breakthrough in Precision   Before Jaeger-LeCoultre developed the Duometre concept, adding complications to a watch movement seemed irreconcilable with accurate timekeeping. That is because the fundamental requirement of precise timekeeping is that the power supply from the movement’s barrel to the escapement should be absolutely steady. However, in order to operate, a complication must draw on the power supply, which interrupts that steady flow and thus jeopardises precision.  Introduced in 2007, the patented Duometre mechanism features two barrels and two separate gear trains housed in a single calibre and linked to a single regulating organ. One gear train powers the time indications and the other drives all additional functions. By separating the power supply in this way, the Duometre mechanism guarantees an exceptionally high degree of operating accuracy.  Thanks to this ingenious concept, the Manufacture Jaeger-LeCoultre added a new chapter to watchmaking history, opening the door to horological complexity and laying the foundation of an entire Duometre collection. The Heliotourbillon – a New Spin on Multiple Axes  Incorporating almost eight decades of accumulated expertise in the tourbillon regulating mechanism, the Duometre Heliotourbillon Perpetual, features a newly developed tourbillon configuration that rotates on three axes. In doing so, it creates a completely new kinematic effect for Jaeger-LeCoultre resembling a spinning top.  Initially devised for pocket-watches, the traditional tourbillon, which spins on a single axis, does not compensate for the effects of gravity in all positions. Having understood that an additional axis of rotation must be added in order to be more effective in all positions that a wrist-worn watch may adopt, Jaeger-LeCoultre’s engineers developed the dual-axis Gyrotourbillon, and various other tourbillon configurations, each fitted with differently shaped hairsprings.  Fitted with a cylindrical hairspring, the Heliotourbillon takes this thinking further, with a newly developed construction comprising three titanium cages rotating on three axes. The first cage is set at a 90-degree angle to the balance wheel and rotates perpendicular to it. The second cage is set at 90 degrees to the first (thus, on the same plane as the balance wheel). Together, these two cages are constrained by an axis tilted at 40 degrees and make a full rotation in 30 seconds. The third cage is perpendicular to the second and makes a full rotation in 60 seconds. Supported on ceramic ball bearings to minimise friction, the tourbillon consists of 163 components and weighs less than 0.7 grams. A Perpetual Calendar with a grande date Display  As a noble complement to the highly sophisticated tourbillon and Duometre mechanisms, Jaeger-LeCoultre’s watchmakers integrated a perpetual calendar into Calibre 388. Among the most challenging complications to master, a perpetual calendar is a miniature mechanical computer that must automatically adjust for months of different lengths and for leap years; it needs manual correction of the day and date indications only in 2100 and in subsequent centenary years that are not also leap years.  A feature of Calibre 388 is that the hours and minutes can be set either backwards or forwards without compromising the perpetual calendar. Because normally, a perpetual calendar is set through the passing of time (the hour and minute hands), adjusting the time backwards desynchronises and can damage the calendar mechanism. In Calibre 388, the relationship between the winding and calendar assemblies is such that the perpetual calendar mechanism moves forwards only and cannot be dragged backwards when the time is set backwards.  Other notable features of Calibre 388 include a Grande Date display: a classical yet rare complication sought-after by watch connoisseurs, it is set at the 3 o’clock position on the hours-and-minutes sub-dial, ensuring great legibility. The year indication shows the last digit of a leap year in red – a Jaeger-LeCoultre patent – and the moon-phase indication is accurate to 122 years. A Refined Dial Reinterprets the Duometre’s Aesthetic Codes  The Duometre collection has always been distinguished by the powerful symmetry of the dial layout. On the dial of the Duometre Heliotourbillon Perpetual, the triangular arrangement that directly expresses the underlying mechanism with its two barrels and gear trains has been turned 90 degrees, as if the winding crown forms the apex of the triangle, the time display is flanked by the two power reserves, and the ‘base’ of the triangle is formed by the moon-phase indicator and days on one side and the months and years on the other.  On the vertical axis, the two sides of the dial are separated by a gold bridge with contrasting areas of microblasting and bevelling, creating an intriguing play of light – and echoing the finishes on the watch case. The left-hand side of the dial is open-worked to provide a fascinating view of the tourbillon performing its ‘spinning top’ rotation – a kinematic effect created by the combination of the three cages rotating on different axes and at different speeds. A sapphire crystal window in the side of the case offers another way to view this captivating mechanical show.  The tourbillon is set above a background of deep blue lacquer representing a starry sky and, as it spins, red triangles set on the third cage indicate 20-second intervals marked on a sapphire crystal arc that floats above the starry blue background. On the main dial refined finishes abound, with applied hour indexes and frames around the date and year, and a mix of opaline, brushed and azuré surfaces creating subtle contrasts between the different indications.  Epitomising the noble art of watchmaking tradition, this fine decoration is carried over to the movement, even on components that are not visible through the sapphire crystal caseback: brushed surfaces contrast with perlage, edges are hand-bevelled and polished, and sunrayed Geneva stripes (côtes de Genève soleillées) radiate seamlessly across the entire expanse of the bridges. Like all Jaeger-LeCoultre movements, Calibre 388 was conceived, designed, produced, assembled and finished within the Manufacture. A New Duometre Case: Contemporary Elegance Inspired by Tradition  Marking the launch of three new Duometre models in 2024, Jaeger-LeCoultre has designed an entirely new case for the collection. A contemporary interpretation of the savonette pocket watches created by the Maison in the 19th-century, its rounded contours are highly tactile as well as visually appealing. (The French word savonette literally means a small disc of soap with rounded contours that can be cradled in the palm of a hand.) With its convex crystal and gracefully rounded bezel, the new Duometre case expresses this literal definition very well. The crown, too, has been redesigned, with deep and rounded notches that make it a joy to handle. Indeed, the only sharp lines to be found are on the highly polished edges of the lugs.  Measuring 44 mm in diameter, the case is a complex structure of 34 separate parts and the lugs are screwed rather than integrated, to enable multiple finishing techniques. A mixture of polished, brushed and micro-blasted surfaces creates a fascinating play of light with every movement of the wrist. The apparent simplicity of the case belies its complexity of detail, which perfectly complements the complexity of the calibre within.  With its extreme mechanical sophistication, innovative tourbillon and highly refined aesthetics, the Duometre Heliotourbillon Perpetual represents a new adventure in the Maison’s quest for precision, as well as its boundless creativity. • How to Train like a UFC Fighter

Mixed martial arts, or MMA, is one of the fastest-growing sports of recent times. What was once a niche part of the fighting world and sometimes dismissed as inferior is now one of the most popular sports on the planet. The biggest events regularly attract millions of viewers and fans worldwide. Weights are integral to training like a UFC fighter (Image by blackday / Adobestock) Part of that success is down to the marketing talent of the biggest organization in MMA, the Ultimate Fighting Champion (UFC). The sport has evolved as well, with the very best fighters not only incredible athletes but also amazing specimens of fitness and strength. Their physiques are a major reason why many people are looking to train in the same way to achieve their look. You may have no desire to appear on the   best UFC betting sites  or even enter an octagon for a bout, but you can learn how to train like a UFC fighter and be the best you can be. What is MMA? As a sport, mixed martial arts has become popular partly due to the wider range of fighting skills available. Whereas boxing has always prided itself on its discipline and punch-only laws, MMA fighters are able to use a greater variety of attacking moves in order to defeat an opponent. Although there are still outlawed practices, a UFC fighter is able to strike, kick and try to force a submission, giving the fans a more varied spectacle that is sometimes considered more brutal, if still visually exciting. The demands on the fighters’ bodies mean strict training regimes are needed and that appeals to many who are not ever going to fight competitively. Whole Body Routines The good news for those looking to train like UFC fighters but not actually fight is that the regimes, if tough and punishing, do not require you to be an actual professional. There is no need for a complex training routine but you do need to work the whole body and concentrate on injury prevention. Strength and power are two obvious focuses for training like a UFC athlete. Working on that core is important, with little need for exercises that only look cool and impressive. Fighters have no time for aesthetics and the look of an MMA athlete is just a bonus. Weight Training As strength is a major component for any UFC fighter, weight training is essential. This should be a regular part of your daily routine. Professionals would be weight training around four times a week but non-fighters should just ensure that it makes up a majority of your work. You should also make sure that you are not just concentrating on one part of your body when it comes to your weight training. Alternate between chest and triceps, back and biceps, shoulders, and legs. An overall regimen is required for overall body strength and muscle. Strength Conditioning Although you will (probably) not go on to start an MMA or UFC career, you should still think like a fighter and not build that muscle without including stamina and conditioning work. The whole point of this kind of training is to condition you for a theoretical fight, not just to show off in the gym. Much of this can be weight training again, as it builds your stamina and ability to keep going. But you also need to remember to warm up and cool down in the correct manner. Aerobic exercise, either jogging, walking, or fixed bike training, is perfect for this – with some light jogging or walking to round things off. Power and Endurance Actual UFC fighters will obviously include sparring as a major part of their daily and weekly routines, this can probably be a personal choice if you are only looking to train like  a mixed martial artist and not actually be  one professionally. You could still choose to spar with a bag rather than with partners. Otherwise, it is back to the weights to build that power and give yourself the endurance needed for a bout. Dumbbell work here is good but you also need to remember to rest properly. The best UFC fighters know that rest can be a weapon in itself and resting between reps is a real necessity for improvement. Diet and Hydration Sometimes it is the part of training that doesn’t make you look good in a gym that is more important. Making sure you rest properly is one thing but you should also think carefully about your dietary intake and making sure that you are   hydrating properly  during and between routines. Fish and coconut oil are good, alongside staples such as pasta, potatoes, lean meat, and vegetables. Staying hydrated is also crucial. A UFC fighter would look to drink around two liters when just training and upping that to about six liters on the day of a match. Hydration and nutrition are just as important (Image by andyborodaty / Adobestock) Personal Trainers and Assistance Even if you have a lot of experience you should seek assistance if you are considering upping your routines to train like a UFC fighter. Even if you don’t think you would want to take it to the next level, the increased workload is going to be testing and you should look to get all the help you can get. Just like boxing training is popular with just about everyone these days, there are plenty of personal trainers who can offer UFC-style programs. Make sure that you take in all the professional help possible and, with some very hard work, you too could train and look like a UFC champion. By ML Staff. Images courtesy of Adobestock

  • The Process of Harvesting and Using Umbilical Cord and Placenta Cells

Trying a new treatment like stem cell therapy can be a difficult decision, especially without knowing where stem cells come from or how they work.  In this article, we’ll break down the process of harvesting and using umbilical cord and placenta stem cells, touching on issues like post treatment care . After reading this, you’ll feel much more comfortable trying this innovative new therapy.  Collection Process Stem cell treatment begins with harvesting umbilical cord or placenta cells. This is done by removing blood from the umbilical cord  after it has been cut or extracting cells from placental tissue through various techniques. The placenta and umbilical cord are typically discarded after birth, which makes the collection process non-invasive and ethical. At clinics like Swiss Medica, placenta and umbilical cord cells are extracted in a sterile environment to reduce the risk of contamination.  Processing and Testing After stem cells have been collected, they are processed in a lab, where lab technicians separate the desired cells from other cells. During the initial processing, cells are checked for viability and infections. Cells derived from the placenta or umbilical cord are then transferred to clean bottles that contain a patented culture medium that is changed every 3-4 days.  During this stage, which is known as cultivation, stem cells divide and increase in mass. It can take 3-4 weeks of cultivation until there is an effective stem cell treatment dose. Before administering stem cells to patients, clinics like Swiss Medica put stem cell cultures through rigorous testing to ensure sterility, purity and viability. The lab will test stem cells for viruses or bacteria and analyze stem cell characteristics and genetics.  Photo by   Lucas Vasques  on   Unsplash Storage and Preservation If necessary, placental and umbilical cord stem cells can be stored using cryopreservation . Stem cell cultures are mixed with a cryoprotectant and slowly cooled using specialized equipment until they are frozen. The frozen vials are then placed in liquid nitrogen and stored for as long as necessary. Cryopreservation allows patients to receive stem cell treatment exactly when they need it and MSCs don’t lose any of their therapeutic properties through this storage method.  Applications in Treatment Placenta cells and umbilical cord cells are the preferred cell sources for many patients because they are young and healthy and are typically stronger than the cells of patients with chronic illness.  Clinics administer stem cells to patients through a simple injection or IV drip. The most common side effect is a slight fever, but this usually passes on its own. Patients can typically continue with their day as normal following treatment. Photo by   insung yoon  on   Unsplash Once in the body, stem cells travel to the site of damaged tissue and influence other cells in the area, stimulating the growth of new, healthy cells and regulating the immune system. Placental and umbilical cord stem cells have a wide range of applications and can be used to treat diseases such as: Multiple Sclerosis Stroke Autism COPD Benefits and Safety The benefits of this treatment are well worth the stem cell therapy cost . Stem cell therapy can restore cognitive and muscle function and can greatly improve overall quality of life. It’s also not uncommon for disease progression to slow or even stop.  Patients can see improvements in their condition in as little as a week, but it may take months to see the full benefits of the therapy. The benefits of this therapy depend on the age of the patient, the severity and stage of their disease and other lifestyle factors.  Placental and umbilical cord stem cells are safe, but patients should undergo post-treatment care to monitor for any side effects or unexpected treatment outcomes. Ethical and Regulatory Considerations Stem cell therapy using cells from an umbilical cord and placenta is an ethical treatment , since the placenta and umbilical cord are typically discarded after birth.  While umbilical cord and placental stem cells are safe and effective, the treatment is not approved in all countries. For example, the FDA has not approved any stem cell therapies for general use in the US.  Patients who want access to this effective treatment can travel to countries such as Serbia, where they can find high-quality treatment at a more affordable price.  In conclusion Stem cells are extracted either from the blood of the umbilical cord or placental tissues and then taken to a lab where they are tested for safety, viability and purity. They are then cultured and stored, ready to be administered to the patient when necessary. Placenta cells and umbilical cord stem cells are an effective treatment for many diseases. They are ethically sourced and treatment is quick and safe. In the weeks and months following treatment, patients can see a reduction of symptoms and improved quality of life. By ML staff. • Uncharted Paths to Calm: Fresh Strategies for Managing Stress

Stress has become an unwelcome companion for many people nowadays. While we're often told to "just relax" or "take a deep breath," these well-worn pieces of advice can feel frustratingly inadequate when we're in the throes of anxiety or overwhelm. This article aims to provide fresh, practical strategies for managing stress that go beyond the usual platitudes. Stress Inoculation Just as vaccines work by exposing our bodies to small amounts of a pathogen, we can build stress resilience by deliberately exposing ourselves to small, manageable stressors. For instance, the nervousness casino players get when making their bets, which you can read more  about, can help them be better prepared for other stressful situations in their lives.  Do things that are a little out of your comfort zone regularly. This could be taking a cold shower, engaging in public speaking, or trying a new, challenging hobby. Start small and gradually increase the intensity. Over time, this can expand your capacity to handle stress in various areas of life. Embracing the Stress Paradox Counter-intuitive as it may seem, some research suggests that perceiving stress as helpful rather than harmful can change its impact on your body and mind. This doesn't mean ignoring the negative aspects of stress, but rather reframing your relationship with it. The next time you feel your heart racing before a big presentation or important meeting, instead of thinking, "I'm so stressed," tell yourself, "My body is energized and ready for this challenge." Changing your outlook in this way can make you feel more energized and capable, even when the stakes are high. The Power of Temp Temperature can be a powerful tool for regulating your nervous system. While a warm bath is a common relaxation technique, strategic use of cold can be equally effective. Keep a small ice pack in your freezer. When stress hits, hold it against the back of your neck or your chest for 15-30 seconds. This can trigger the mammalian diving reflex, slowing your heart rate and inducing a sense of calm. Alternatively, splash cold water on your face or take a brief cold shower. The shock of cold can help reset your stress response and increase alertness. Contrast Therapy Our brains are wired to notice contrasts. By deliberately creating stark contrasts in your environment or routine, you can interrupt stress patterns and create moments of relief. If your work involves a lot of mental effort, engage in a brief burst of intense physical activity, like sprinting up a flight of stairs or doing a set of push-ups to your limit. The contrast between mental and physical effort can be refreshing. Micro-Transitions In our hyper-connected world, we often jump from one task to another without pause, which can lead to accumulated stress. Creating intentional micro-transitions between activities can help reset your mental state. Between tasks or meetings, take 30 seconds to a minute to perform a simple, mindful action. This could be methodically arranging items on your desk, doing a brief stretching sequence, or even just walking to get a glass of water with full attention on each step and movement. These small breaks can prevent stress from snowballing throughout the day. Olfactory Anchoring Memory and emotion are closely associated with our sense of smell. You can quickly trigger calmness in stressful situations by creating deliberate associations between certain scents and relaxed states. Choose a pleasant, distinctive scent (e.g., a specific essential oil or herb). Expose yourself to this scent only when you're in a relaxed state, such as during meditation or just before sleep. Over time, your brain will associate this scent with relaxation. Then, keep a small vial of the scent with you and use it as a quick stress relief tool when needed. Productive Procrastination While procrastination is often seen as negative, strategic procrastination can sometimes be beneficial for stress management. The key is to procrastinate on one task by doing something else productive. When you're feeling overwhelmed by a particular task, instead of forcing yourself to push through or succumbing to unproductive avoidance, choose a different, easier task from your to-do list. This allows you to maintain productivity while giving your mind a break from the stressor. Often, you'll return to the original task with renewed energy and perspective. Flexible Thinking Through Improvisation Stress frequently arises from rigid thinking patterns and an inability to adapt to changing circumstances. Improvisation exercises can help cultivate mental flexibility and reduce stress. Engage in short improvisation games, either alone or with others. For example, come up with multiple uses for a common object, or create a story where each sentence must start with the next letter of the alphabet. These exercises can help break habitual thought patterns and foster adaptability. In conclusion, managing stress effectively requires going beyond conventional wisdom. To effectively cope with stress, you need to practice this skill. Be patient with yourself, and don't hesitate to seek professional help if stress becomes overwhelming. With time and effort, you can learn to not just cope with stress but to use it as a catalyst for growth and resilience. By ML staff. Images courtesy of Pexels.
