- Assouline Unveils “Vintage Objects” – A Love Letter to the Art of Collecting
©Laziz Hamani This October, Assouline – the Paris-born, globally adored luxury publishing house – introduces Vintage Objects , an evocative new chapter in its story of cultural curation. Conceived by co-founder Prosper Assouline, the collection invites collectors, aesthetes, and design lovers to discover a trove of rare treasures sourced from antique markets, prestigious auction houses, and discerning dealers around the world. ©Pedro Jaen, ©Oliver Pilcher, ©Oliver Pilcher (L to R) Presented as a modern cabinet de curiosités , the assortment includes sculpted busts, globes, trinket boxes, ashtrays, bookstands, and a handful of vintage furnishings. Each piece carries the patina of discovery, transforming Assouline’s boutiques into living salons for inspiration and dialogue. “I’ve always believed that objects tell stories,” Prosper Assouline shared in an interview. “Every item we select has a soul, a history, and a sense of mystery. These are not decorations – they are companions to thought, imagination, and conversation.” Echoing the maison’s philosophy that a library is more than a room but a sanctuary for ideas, Vintage Objects extends Assouline’s universe beyond the printed page. The collection celebrates the tactile beauty of the physical world – the same spirit that animates Assouline’s now-iconic Travel , Design , and Classics book series, beloved by bibliophiles from Miami to Marrakech. ©Harrods In South Florida, where design and lifestyle intersect effortlessly – from the sunlit modernism of Coral Gables to the storied Art Deco facades of South Beach – the launch resonates deeply. Assouline’s boutiques at Bal Harbour Shops and the Miami Design District have long served as destinations for collectors and creators alike. With Vintage Objects , these spaces evolve into immersive galleries where literature, art, and history converge. “Miami has an energy that celebrates beauty and individuality,” says Assouline. “It’s a city that appreciates craftsmanship and global perspective, which makes it a natural home for this collection.” ©Laziz Haman, ©Simon Detraz, ©Laziz Hamani (L to R) Ranging from $500 to $3,000 , each piece in the Vintage Objects series is personally selected by Prosper Assouline and his in-house team. “We wanted to create something that feels intimate,” he explains. “It’s about the pleasure of finding the extraordinary in the everyday – and about living surrounded by things that inspire.” ©Laziz Hamani Assouline, founded in Paris in 1994 by Prosper and Martine Assouline, remains the first luxury brand on culture, with more than 2,000 titles and collaborations spanning the worlds of art, design, travel, and fashion. Today, its boutiques are destinations in their own right – part salon, part library, part time capsule. As the Vintage Objects collection debuts, it reminds us that collecting is more than acquisition – it’s an act of curiosity, connection, and preservation. And in Miami, where the past and the avant-garde meet beneath a constant sun, Assouline’s newest venture feels perfectly at home. The Vintage Objects collection is available beginning October 2025 at select Assouline boutiques worldwide, including Miami Design District and Bal Harbour Shops. - A Gulf Escape from Miami: Luxurious Horizons at The St. Regis Doha & The St. Regis Marsa Arabia Island, The Pearl Qatar
As South Florida’s luxury-travel aficionados scan the globe for their next elevated escape, a new corridor is emerging between Miami’s seaside glamour and the Gulf’s elegant sophistication: namely, the capital of Qatar, Doha. With seamless connectivity and two flagship properties by St. Regis Hotels & Resorts that merge resort-scale opulence with design-forward hospitality, this journey is worth writing about. For the well-traveled Miami resident or visitor, the notion of a Middle East escape might sound distant. But thanks to a direct route operated by Qatar Airways between Miami International Airport (MIA) and Hamad International Airport (DOH), a 13–14-hour nonstop flight opens Doha. The St. Regis Doha (West Bay, Doha) Positioned on the West Bay waterfront, The St. Regis Doha anchors a glamorous beach-resort identity alongside the city’s skyline. With 335 guest rooms and suites designed to make Gulf-view living feel effortless, the property blends contemporary amenity with regional nuance. Rooms and suites feature a contemporary aesthetic enriched by “local accents” and floor-to-ceiling glazing toward sea or island views. The luxury service offering – the famous St. Regis Butler Service – is authentic here: from tailored turn-down service to curated guest experiences. The St. Regis Marsa Arabia Island, The Pearl Qatar (The Pearl-Qatar) On its own island within The Pearl-Qatar, the St. Regis Marsa Arabia Island emerges as more than just a hotel – it’s a full-scale resort-residence paradigm, conceived for the guest who expects space, privacy, craftsmanship and lifestyle sophistication. With 193 exquisitely furnished suites all boasting large balconies overlooking the Arabian Gulf, the property reads as “luxury living by design”. Here, the suites range from one-bedroom dwellings to expansive townhouse-poolside duplexes, citing generous square meterage and residential finishes. What particularly resonates for a design-literate Miami audience is the integration of wellness as core architecture: the “Longevity Hub by Clinique La Prairie” anchors the resort’s wellness sociology. In Miami we’ve seen wellness-first developments, but this Gulf example makes it central. Practical Notes for the South Florida Audience: Flight time : Non-stop Miami ↔ Doha flights average about 13–14 hours, making this a one-nap-away journey rather than requiring multiple lay-overs. Flight frequency & airline : Qatar Airways offers up to 12 weekly flights to/from Miami. When to go : Doha’s “winter” tends to be October–April for comfortable temperatures; South Floridians may find the escape from humidity and heat a welcome contrast. Why stay at either property : St. Regis Doha : urban-resort hybrid, excellent for business-leisure travelers who want city + sea. St. Regis Marsa Arabia Island : a full-scale resort, privacy, suites, wellness-forward—ideal for families, longer stays, or those seeking an elevated sanctuary. From your Coral Gables penthouse or Miami Beach art-lovers retreat, projecting your wanderlust eastwards to Doha doesn’t feel like stepping into the unknown – it feels like trading one premium waterfront playground for another, with distinct cultural inflection. The St. Regis properties do more than serve as overnight stays – they deliver design narratives, hospitality craftsmanship, and lifestyle worlds. For Miami Living readers – architects, designers, travelers, tastemakers – this makes them more than hotels: they’re case-studies in luxury living by design. Next time you’re scanning for where to escape, consider that one long flight from MIA might land you not just on a beach, but in a bespoke world of horizon, architecture, and service that echoes – but doesn’t duplicate – your South Florida home. - How to Mix and Match Concrete Pavers for a Custom Look
Creating an outdoor space that feels truly your own begins long before the first stone is laid. It starts with an eye for balance between function and form. Among the many materials available for shaping landscapes, concrete pavers stand out for their ability to merge practicality with design freedom. By blending different textures, tones, and shapes, you can transform driveways, pathways, courtyards, and pool surrounds into spaces that feel intentionally designed rather than merely constructed. Exploring the Full Design Range of Concrete Pavers Modern concrete paver manufacturing techniques have opened up endless variations, sleek urban looks that echo cut stone, rustic textures that mimic natural elements , and even soft matte finishes for a minimalist touch. This makes it easy to mix and match pieces across the same space while maintaining visual cohesion. Contrast is the designer’s best friend here. Pairing large, clean-edged pavers with smaller rustic ones can define zones beautifully, while mixing finishes can add personality to an otherwise simple layout. The trick lies in restraint, so always let one element lead and the others complement it. Layout patterns also make a remarkable difference. A herringbone pattern can bring movement to narrow paths, while stacked or running bonds suit open courtyards. Changing the pattern between sections, or alternating orientation, can help guide the eye naturally through the space without feeling forced. Choosing Colour Combinations That Work in Harmony Colour sets the tone. Soft neutrals can create a tranquil, understated feel that works beautifully in garden settings. On the other hand, stronger contrasts like light and dark, warm and cool, can lend structure and rhythm to larger areas. For example, alternating charcoal and sandstone tones can break up wide expanses, while using slightly varied greys introduces dimension without overwhelming the design. The best results often come from taking cues from surrounding brickwork, cladding, or even the garden palette. When the colours echo their environment, the space feels connected rather than pieced together. Playing with Finishes and Formats to Add Depth Beyond colour, texture can change the entire experience of a space. A smooth, honed paver gives a sense of refinement, while a rougher, shot-blasted surface adds tactile interest and grip, particularly around pools or high-traffic areas. Mixing these finishes thoughtfully brings dimension to large, open zones that might otherwise feel flat. Format is another tool worth exploring. Combining broad rectangular slabs with smaller square pavers can visually separate areas without physical barriers. It is an approach that keeps things fluid while maintaining cohesion. The format change becomes its own visual cue, guiding movement naturally through the landscape. Keeping Practicality and Performance in Mind While the visual side is important, performance should never take a back seat. Each paver chosen needs to suit its purpose, be it supporting a car, creating a safe non-slip surface, or forming an easy-to-maintain path. Mixing styles only works if all selected products share consistent quality and thickness, ensuring a smooth installation and long-term durability. Working with a single supplier or brand range can simplify the process. It helps maintain consistency in tone, texture, and size, so the result feels unified rather than patchworked. Takeaways Ultimately, the magic of design lies in the details. By thoughtfully combining colours, finishes, and layouts, you can shape an outdoor area that feels authentic to the way you live and the atmosphere you want to create. Every paved surface tells a story, some are quiet and restrained, others bold and expressive. The beauty of this approach is that there is no single right answer. With planning, patience, and a willingness to experiment, even the most ordinary backyard can become a standout feature that feels considered, cohesive, and timeless. With all that being said, mixing and matching pavers should never be about following trends. Instead, focus on creating spaces that invite people in and hold their attention. By ML Staff. - Miami Fashion Week Gala Shines with Naeem Khan’s “Jardin de Nuit” Collection at Queen Miami Beach
Miami Fashion Week’s Gala dazzled guests with an unforgettable evening of fashion, music, and philanthropy, headlined by an extraordinary runway presentation from internationally acclaimed designer Naeem Khan . The event took place at the glamorous Queen Miami Beach , drawing a packed house in support of Miami Dade College’s Miami Fashion Institute . Known for his intricate beading, embroidery, and luxurious fabrics, Khan unveiled his latest collection, “Jardin de Nuit,” a breathtaking ode to the power of craftsmanship and timeless elegance. “In a world oversaturated with noise, Naeem Khan reminds us that true glamour needs no amplification,” the designer shared. Jardin de Nuit speaks through light, texture, and touch — a poetic celebration of eveningwear that redefines modern glamour. The collection unfolded in a palette of ruby reds, sapphires, pastels, and jet black , with blooming florals that felt both fresh and eternal. Flowing silhouettes moved with cinematic grace, their embellishments glimmering as if caught between dusk and starlight. Each piece reflected the artistry of hand embroidery inspired by India’s rich traditions, refined through Khan’s distinctive lens of high sophistication. Designed for women who embrace both confidence and opulence, the gowns were made to shine across candlelit tables and glamorous soirées. The show reached its crescendo with a showstopping finale — a bold, red, tiered ballgown crafted in Khan’s signature raffia, embodying a fearless embrace of grandeur. The evening also featured an exclusive live performance by Eva Ruiz , the singer, actress, and model from the hit TV show Culpa Mía . Her soulful set elevated the night’s energy, blending effortlessly with the atmosphere of artistry and celebration. By ML Staff. Photos/MFW
- A Sojourn in Style: The Bal Harbour Residence by Hino Studio × Navicon Construction
Perched on the shimmering Atlantic coast – where the breeze tangles with city sophistication and resort-style ease – this residence in the heart of Bal Harbour stands as a nuanced synthesis of luxury, light, and Latin-inflected mid-century design. In conjuring an environment that feels both elevated and intimately relaxed, Hino Studio (led by principal designer Sabrina MacLean) teamed with Navicon Construction to deliver a home that resonates with the South Florida lifestyle while rooted in timeless materiality and sculptural elegance. The clients, seasoned art collectors based in New York, brought to the project a clear and bold request: a mid-century modern aesthetic with Latin flair , set within the context of a high-rise ocean-facing residence. With full creative freedom (“carte blanche,” as MacLean recalls), the design team had the opportunity to craft an experience rather than simply fill space. From the outset, the pre-existing floor plan dictated both challenge and opportunity: generous living spaces with sweeping views, yet the ambition was to introduce intimacy, texture and moments of surprise – something bespoke rather than “typical showroom”. Upon entry, one is greeted by a custom-designed walnut slatted screen: an elegant harp-like structure that both defines and liberates the foyer, providing visual interest, movement and a transitional moment between arrival and living space. “Millwork was a big component of how to subdivide the space while keeping an open layout,” MacLean reflects. Flooring transitions are deliberate: honed Greek marble in the main living areas creates a cool, refined backdrop, while bedrooms and more intimate zones employ bleached walnut herringbone to introduce warmth and tactile contrast. Arches recur as architectural motifs – from the dining area to the powder room, where a barrel-vaulted ceiling and textured stone and wallpaper treatments create a “chapel-like” ambiance. “It almost feels like a chapel,” MacLean notes of the powder room’s design. Rather than simply fill the rooms with white-glove luxury, Hino Studio layered the home with curated art, bold furnishings and handcrafted details. Mid-century icons (both European and Latin American) intermingle: Vladimir Kagan seating, Brazilian Jorge Zalszupin armchairs, and Brazilian modernist pioneer Sergio Rodrigues—all chosen to dialogue with the clients’ vibrant art collection. The living area is organized into dual conversation zones—an intentional pivot to entertain larger groups while retaining comfortable intimacy. Textures of leather, velvet, boucle, and silk threads weave together, bringing depth and richness to a palette anchored in earthy tones, terracotta accents and hints of blue that echo the Atlantic beyond the windows. Turning sophisticated design into built reality, Navicon Construction delivered the meticulous execution required for this scale of luxury. Known throughout Miami for high-end construction, Navicon’s role here was to honor the architectural precision (perfectly square, plumb lines; flawless surfaces) while accommodating the bold material palette and unique elements of the brief. From custom millwork to carved arches, from curated lighting to hidden storage walls, the craftsmanship on display supports the aesthetic rather than overshadowing it. The result is a residence that reveals its depth over time rather than shouting its luxury from every surface. Bal Harbour – synonymous with beachside elegance and luxurious seaside lifestyle – provides not only sun and sand but proximity to the city, design-savvy retail (hello, Bal Harbour Shops), and an international clientele. The interplay of natural light, ocean reflections and high-end finishes suits the region’s climate and lifestyle. Cool marble, warm walnut, and curated textures create a home that is both serene and sun-lit. For the South Florida audience, this project stands out by resisting the expected tropes of “beach condo chic.” Instead, it offers substance, story and sculptural design elements – qualities that resonate with the savvy buyer who values quality, longevity and personality. The residence is built for more than show – it supports entertaining large groups and everyday comfort with equal measure. For those living in Miami and balancing work, leisure and hospitality, this dual capability is key. Hino Studio : A Miami-based interior design firm led by Sabrina MacLean, Hino Studio is recognized for its thoughtful approach to spatial intimacy, wellness-focused design and material refinement. Navicon Construction : An established general contractor specializing in luxury residential projects in the Miami region, Navicon brings the sort of build expertise required to deliver high-complexity interiors. In this Bal Harbour residence, the fusion of Latin warmth, mid-century modern rigor and high-luxury residential living creates a home that feels entirely Miami – and yet utterly unique. It’s a space that understands the geography of luxury, the importance of craftsmanship, and the subtleties of pacing a living environment from arrival to evening repose. By Veronica Speck. - Modern Design Across Borders
Modern Design Across Borders examines the cross-cultural web of connections among people, ideas, and movements that made modern design's remarkable reach and lasting impact possible. Focusing on five spotlight subjects within the global story of interwar design—transportation, the 1925 Paris Expo, tea and coffee, plywood, and cocktail culture—the exhibition homes in on the innovation and trends that spread from country to country, expressing progress and new ideals. Featuring products by designers such as Norman Bel Geddes, Josef Hoffmann, Alvar Aalto, and Charles and Ray Eames, Modern Design Across Borders draws mainly from the Wolfsonian collection and teases out the trademark design choices (geometry, clean lines, functionality) that defined novel visual languages of modern life and continue to shape design today. - Inside Miami’s Most Personal School Experience
Image by Jaco Blund In a city defined by ambition and individuality, Score Academy Miami redefines what it means to know your child, making education not just personalized, but personal. Image by SDI Productions Miami embraces individuality, from its art to its entrepreneurial drive. Yet, families often find it difficult to locate a school that shares this philosophy. Education often feels standardized and detached. Students progress through a system built for averages, leaving parents unsure if their child is truly seen. Score Academy Miami answers that concern differently. Every student is seen as a person, never just a number, grade, or data point. Education That Sees the Whole Student Step into a Score Academy Miami classroom, and you’ll notice a sense of focused calm. Teachers know each student by name, learning style, and story. Lessons match each student’s pace and potential. Here, education fits the student. Whether a learner thrives on one-on-one attention, needs more time, or seeks more challenge, the environment adapts. Our role is to meet students where they are,” says Michael Rombola, Head of School at Score Academy Miami. “Once you know how a student learns best, you can help them reach levels they didn’t think were possible. This model is rare in education today, but for families seeking meaningful engagement, it’s exactly what they want. Image by Jaco Blund The Personal Connection at the Core Connection drives Score Academy’s approach. Teachers and students build relationships that extend beyond the classroom. When a student athlete needs a schedule that accommodates training, the school adapts. When a creative learner struggles in traditional settings, teachers craft pathways that spark curiosity rather than conformity. This care extends to parents. They are active partners in each student’s journey, receiving regular updates and open communication. The result is genuine collaboration centered on each student’s growth and happiness. “Families come to us because they want their children to be seen, heard, and supported,” Rombola explains. “It’s that simple. They want education to feel human again.” Image by SDI Productions Built for What Matters Score Academy Miami is intentional, from curriculum to environment. Academic excellence balances life skills, emotional intelligence, and real-world readiness. Students learn to think critically, manage time, and handle challenges with resilience. This approach is relevant for today’s Miami families. Many balance busy careers and community life, while wanting structure and personal care for their children. Score Academy bridges that gap with warmth and flexibility, offering the consistency of a private school and the adaptability of a custom program. The philosophy, “Built for What Matters,” captures this balance. It’s about creating a foundation for success that fits a student’s life and prepares them for what’s next. A Glimpse Inside the Day-to-Day Life at Score Academy Miami is different. Small classes and individualized pacing let every student progress at their own rhythm. A morning may start with a one-on-one literature discussion, shift to project-based math, then an afternoon mentorship on goals and well-being. Technology supports progress tracking and collaboration, but focus remains on the teacher-student connection. Located in Coconut Grove, the campus feels like a community. It’s calm, inviting, and designed to help students thrive. Image by SDI Productions More Than a School, a Partner in Your Child’s Journey In Miami, where families want every opportunity for their children, Score Academy Miami offers something simple and impactful: an education that’s truly personal. It’s not about rigid systems or standard benchmarks. It’s about helping each student find their pace, passion, and confidence.
