Foreigner will step into one of the country’s most-watched holiday traditions this year, performing atop the new Stranger Things float during the 99th Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. The rock band, known for more than a dozen multi-platinum albums and global sales topping 80 million, will bring “Cold As Ice” to the streets of Manhattan on November 27. Photo by Krishta Abruzzini The partnership arrives as Stranger Things approaches its conclusion. The Netflix series will roll out its fifth and final season in three parts: four episodes on November 26, three on Christmas Day, and the finale on New Year’s Eve. The parade appearance marks the debut of the “Upside Down Invasion: Stranger Things” float, which transforms the Parade route with imagery from the show, including an on-route Demogorgon. The annual event draws millions of spectators and features its signature mix of character balloons, floats, live performances, and the arrival of Santa Claus. For Foreigner, it adds another milestone to a catalog that includes enduring hits such as “Juke Box Hero,” “Hot Blooded,” “Urgent,” and “I Want To Know What Love Is.” The band’s music has seen renewed visibility through extensive placements across film, television, advertising, and digital media. Stranger Things has previously featured several Foreigner tracks, while titles such as Happy Gilmore 2 , Rock of Ages , Bad Moms , Magic Mike , The Eternals , and series like Orange Is the New Black , Wednesday , and Euphoria have also showcased the group’s songs. The 99th Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade will air live on NBC and Peacock beginning at 8:30 a.m. ET/CT. Additional updates are available on Macy’s official website and on its social channels, including Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube. - ALPI and Stephen Burks Man Made Debut “The Lost Cloth Object” at Design Miami 2025
For the 20th anniversary edition of Design Miami, ALPI presents The Lost Cloth Object, a Kuba-inspired capsule collection created in collaboration with Stephen Burks Man Made. Unveiled as part of Design Miami 2.0, held December 2–7, 2025, the installation transforms centuries-old textile traditions from the ancient Kuba Kingdom into contemporary wood design through ALPI’s pioneering reconstituted wood techniques. Courtesy of ALPI Under the fair’s curatorial theme Make. Believe., led by Curatorial Director Glenn Adamson, the project joins eight international studios to celebrate global craft legacies and material innovation. The installation highlights the synergy between ALPI’s precision in recomposed wood technology and Burks’s long-standing commitment to cultural research and handcraft. The collection reimagines the geometric richness of Kuba raffia textiles—historically woven from raffia palm fibers—through ALPI’s Legacy collection, which revives the grain and tonal qualities of “lost” or endangered wood species such as wenge, teak, rosewood, zebrawood, and ebony. Developed through extensive research, the project culminated in an immersive workshop in Kinshasa, where the design team collaborated with contemporary Kuba artisans. Their experience appears in the short film In Search of Kuba , underscoring the cultural exchange that grounds the collection. The resulting installation features a sculptural platform with patterned furnishings—including a rocking stool, rocking ottoman, and curved partition—that merge Kuba’s symbolic abstraction with the imaginative lineage of Italian design. Each object embodies a cross-cultural dialogue and a renewed interpretation of heritage expressed through contemporary craft. Courtesy of ALPI Glenn Adamson notes that “the infusion of pattern and the masterful handling of timber will be a powerful note in our installation,” capturing the essence of the collaboration. The project reflects ALPI’s philosophy of inviting designers to explore wood beyond industrial boundaries, transforming material into narrative and form. It also expresses Burks’s guiding principle of expanding global craft traditions through partnerships that unite community, industry, and artistry. By ML Staff. Photos: Courtesy of ALPI.
- How To Accessorise Bold Halloween Costumes for a Polished Finish
Halloween provides an opportunity to express creativity through bold and imaginative costumes. While selecting a standout outfit is essential, accessories play a crucial role in completing the look. Thoughtfully chosen additions can transform a costume from ordinary to extraordinary. This guide explores ways to enhance Halloween attire with the right accessories, ensuring a polished appearance. Image by Gustavo Fring / Pexels Choosing the Right Accessories Selecting suitable accessories begins with understanding the costume's theme. Every added detail needs to blend seamlessly with the main aesthetic. Consider the color palette, texture, and mood. Accessories should enhance sexy Halloween costumes , not overshadow the primary costume, creating a cohesive and striking ensemble. Adding Statement Jewelry Jewelry can significantly impact a costume. Bold jewelry really makes things sparkle and pop. Grab items that truly fit the main vibe of your clothes. For instance, a gothic costume might benefit from chunky silver pieces, while a royal character could shine with faux gemstones. You'll see these details really make the whole thing pop and grab attention. Incorporating Headpieces Headpieces draw attention and add flair. Crowns, hats, and headbands can instantly elevate a costume. Select items that resonate with the character being portrayed. A witch’s hat or a floral crown can transform a simple look into something memorable. Ensure the headpiece fits comfortably, allowing for effortless wear throughout the night. Experimenting With Makeup Great makeup really brings a costume's look together. Bold colors and creative designs can emphasize features and complete the character. Makeup helps your eyes pop, shapes your lips, or lets you draw fun designs. Ensure the makeup complements other accessories, maintaining harmony within the ensemble. Image by Mark RZ / Pexels Selecting the Perfect Footwear Footwear should not be overlooked when accessorizing a costume. Pairing the right shoes with your clothes makes the whole look feel truly genuine. Consider both comfort and appearance. For example, boots may suit a pirate costume, while elegant heels could enhance a glamorous look. Utilizing Props Effectively Props can add fun and authenticity to a costume. Consider what items the character might carry. A wand for a wizard, a sword for a knight, or a fan for a dancer can all add to the visual story. Select props that are manageable and appropriate for the event, ensuring they enhance rather than hinder. Enhancing With Scarves and Capes Scarves and capes add drama and elegance. These accessories can either contrast or blend with the costume. A flowing cape may bring a superhero outfit to life, while a scarf might add sophistication to a vintage look. Choose materials that drape well and complement the costume's texture and color. Incorporating Belts and Sashes Belts and sashes can define a costume’s silhouette. These elements bring a nice shape and visual pop, pulling the eye right to your midsection. Select styles and colors that complement the costume’s theme. A wide belt might enhance a warrior look, while a delicate sash could add grace to a fairy costume. Layering With Gloves Gloves can add a touch of elegance or mystery. Long, satin gloves may suit a glamorous outfit, while fingerless styles can add edge to a punk costume. Feel the fabric and check the fit. You'll want to be comfy and move freely. A great pair of gloves can instantly elevate a costume's look, making it appear fancy or giving it a cool vibe. They simply make the whole outfit better without taking over the show. Choosing Eye-Catching Masks Masks provide intrigue and anonymity. Select patterns and styles that accurately reflect the main idea of your costume, and ensure they convey a mysterious vibe. A well-chosen mask can make a statement, drawing attention to the eyes. Ensure the mask is comfortable and allows for clear vision and breathing. It instantly upgrades your outfit. The piece adds a captivating richness. Image by Vanessa Pozos / Pexels Conclusion Accessorizing bold Halloween costumes requires creativity and thoughtfulness. Any new piece you bring in should align with the main idea and enhance the overall look. When you choose your earrings, headpiece, or even your lipstick with care, you create a look that people won't soon forget. Transforming a basic costume into something truly spectacular often hinges on the subtle yet impactful selections of accessories, allowing your distinct character and artistic vision to fully emerge. Continuum, South Florida’s premier resort-style oceanfront condominium residences in Miami Beach, has joined with one of today’s leading nonprofit organizations for families that have children with cancer, to award a theme park wish grant to a local boy who is battling Leukemia. The surprise presentation came with the help of the Miami Beach Mayor and some special celebrity friends, and the initiative forms part of the “Continuum Cares” program, created to support neighbors and those in need throughout the region. The iconic residential property and Miami Beach Mayor Meiner joins the non-profit organization to present a surprise theme park wish grant to a beloved 8 year-old boy. For a second year, Continuum has partnered with Childhood Cancer Society , a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, to fulfill Theme Park Wish Grants for as many children as possible who are battling childhood cancer. Eight year-old Harold Gimenez and his family from Miami was invited to The Patio restaurant at Continuum on November 13 for a surprise presentation and Wish Grant Reveal of an all-expenses-paid 6-night stay at Disney’s Give Kids The World Resort in Orlando, together with passes to Universal Orlando Resort, SeaWorld and Legoland. Harold’s favorite singer-songwriter, Camilo , addressed the celebration with a surprise video message, along with his favorite Miami HEAT players Tyler Herro and Bam Adebayo , who also surprised Harold with a recorded video message. Danielle Phillips, the mother of her late daughter Angelina, and first recipient of a Childhood Cancer Society Theme Park Wish Grant in 2019, took attendees on a heartfelt journey of resilience and strength as she told a passionate story about her daughter and family’s battle against childhood cancer. Residents and guests were then invited to take part in a fund-raising silent auction for excursion packages provided courtesy of Dormie Network, Residence Yacht Club and Atlantis. “We’re delighted to partner once again with Childhood Cancer Society for a truly worthy cause, as part of our ongoing Continuum Cares program,” said Rishi Idnani, Managing Director at Continuum. “This surprise celebrity presentation and Wish Grant Reveal for Harold and his family was made possible through our residents’ continued engagement and generosity. We were thrilled to welcome Mayor Meiner to the property to help celebrate the reveal and we are proud that our residential community, Master Association Board of Directors and Management team are active with raising additional funds to help more children and their families.” Funds raised from the Continuum events since 2022 have topped $100,000, with donations continuing to pour-in, enabling over 15 families from Miami to fulfill their children’s lifelong dream. Every $10,000 raised fully funds a family with childhood cancer for a Theme Park Vacation experience in support of the Adventure Ted Challenge, CCS's national campaign to raise money and awareness for families struggling with pediatric cancer. - How to Prevent Food Poisoning From Ruining Your Thanksgiving Dinner
Thanksgiving is a time for family, friends, and feasting. However, amid the joy of gathering and indulging in delicious food, it’s essential to keep food safety top of mind. Foodborne illnesses can quickly put a damper on the holiday. AlexRaths/iStock via Getty Images Plus Foodborne illnesses sicken 48 million Americans each year — about 1 in 6. Large Thanksgiving meals pose special risks because they often involve massive amounts of food, long preparation times, buffet-style serving, and mingling guests — all conditions that give bacteria more chances to spread. kajakiki/E+ via Getty Images Microbes such as Salmonella and Clostridium perfringens are common culprits during holiday feasts. While many recover, each year around 3,000 Americans die from infections caused by foodborne bacteria. High-Risk Foods and Practices Turkey can harbor multiple pathogens: Salmonella, Campylobacter, and C. perfringens . Stuffing cooked inside the bird is especially risky. Even if the turkey reaches a safe internal temperature, the stuffing may not. Leftovers stored improperly — cooled slowly or left too long — provide prime conditions for C. perfringens to grow and produce toxins. Drazen Zigic/iStock via Getty Images Plus Critical Safety Tips Don't wash the turkey. While it may feel natural, rinsing poultry can actually worsen contamination by splashing bacteria around the kitchen. When you do handle raw meat: Wash your hands thoroughly (at least 20 seconds) before and after touching raw poultry, meat, or eggs. Thaw the turkey safely: ideally in the refrigerator (about 24 hours per 4–5 lb). If you use the cold-water method, change the water every 30 minutes and be vigilant about keeping it below 40°F. Stuff right before cooking: avoid pre-stuffing the bird the night before. Use a food thermometer to ensure both turkey and stuffing reach 165°F (74°C). Prevent cross-contamination: use separate cutting boards and utensils for raw meats and other foods. Keep food out of the “danger zone” (40-140°F): serve hot dishes above 140°F and cool leftovers quickly. Limit how long food sits out: don’t let buffet-style food stay out more than two hours. Store leftovers properly: divide into shallow containers for fast cooling and refrigerate quickly. Remind guests to wash their hands and avoid behaviors like double-dipping. With these precautions, you can help make Thanksgiving a celebration of gratitude — not a memorable bout of food poisoning. Words by Lisa Cuchara. Special thanks for The Conversation . - How the Plymouth Pilgrims Took Over Thanksgiving — and Who History Left Behind
Nine in 10 Americans gather around a table to share food on Thanksgiving. At this polarizing moment, anything that promises to bring Americans together warrants our attention. ‘The First Thanksgiving, 1621,’ by Jean L. G. Ferris. Library of Congress But as a historian of religion, the author argues, popular interpretations of Thanksgiving also have pulled us apart. Communal rituals of giving thanks have a longer history in North America, and it was only around the turn of the 20th century that most people in the U.S. came to associate Thanksgiving with Plymouth “Pilgrims” and generic “Indians” sharing a historic meal. ‘The First Thanksgiving at Plymouth’ by Jennie A. Brownscombe. Stedelijk Museum De Lakenhal/Wikimedia Commons The emphasis on the Pilgrims’ 1620 landing and 1621 feast erased a great deal of religious history and narrowed conceptions of who belongs in America — at times excluding groups such as Native Americans, Catholics, and Jews. The usual Thanksgiving depiction overlooks Indigenous rituals that give thanks, including harvest festivals. The Wampanoag, who shared food with the Pilgrims in 1621, continue to celebrate the cranberry harvest, and similar feasts were held long before Columbus sailed and the Pilgrims landed. Only one eyewitness account of the 1621 feast survives: a letter from the Pilgrim Edward Winslow. He reported that Wampanoag leader Massasoit brought 90 men. Some historians suggest that the gathering was as much a diplomatic event marking an alliance as a harvest celebration. This ‘Thanksgiving Day’ illustration, made by cartoonist Thomas Nast, commemorated its first celebration as a U.S. holiday. Syracuse University Art Museum In that meal, Plymouth residents brought “fowl” (probably wild turkey), but the Wampanoag contributed five deer. Even the harvest of “Indian corn” depended on Native aid. Tisquantum (Squanto), the survivor of the village the Pilgrims named Plymouth, offered crucial advice on planting and diplomacy. Death and hardship framed this encounter. The Pilgrims lost nearly half their group during their first winter. The Wampanoag, meanwhile, had suffered a regional epidemic between 1616 and 1619, leaving villages deserted and driving both communities toward alliance. Over time, the Pilgrims came to dominate the national Thanksgiving narrative. Through commemorations, sermons, and publications, their role was elevated — reshaping the holiday into a symbol of American origins as much as a day of gratitude. - The Quiet Power of Homeownership in America’s Coastal Cities
Imagine the possibilities of owning valuable, oceanfront real estate in Florida? Now let’s get down to brass tacks. The average rental price in Miami, according to Zillow Rentals, is $3,100. While the rental price tapered slightly in 2025, it remains high compared to the national average. Rentals in this part of Florida are about 55% higher than the national average of $2,000. That’s why a greater focus is being placed on homeownership in America’s coastal cities, especially in SoFlo. Rent trends across South Florida reveal a sizzling-hot market with significant upside potential. Even with thousands of rental properties still available, it remains a landlord’s market. Image by DepositPhotos This is true for owners with investment properties, whether short- or long-term tenants. Property market experts estimate that the average rent for a studio apartment is $2,000 p/m. One-bedroom apartments go for $2,499 p/m. The average price for a two-bedroom apartment rises to $3,200 p/m. But if you need extra space, it’s possible to upgrade to a three-bedroom for $3,750 per month. Bigger yet, luxury four-bedroom homes can be rented for $10,000, or more, a month. The prices just keep rising from there. A standard house rents for around $3,100 per month*. As a homeowner, you’re probably licking your lips looking at these figures. Renting out your oceanfront or bayfront property in South Florida is lucrative. The same goes for desirable real estate across many of America’s coastal cities. Granted, homeownership is not without its bugbears, especially as a rental. Some of the challenges that homeowners regularly face in Florida include the following: Insurance premiums One-time assessments Maintenance, repairs, and upkeep Homeowners Association fees (HOA) Vacancy periods in market downturns Management fees on rental properties Natural disasters (storms, flooding, etc.) The condition of oceanfront real estate is another consideration. Recent scares in Miami have exacerbated concerns about the structural integrity of coastal real estate. Fortunately, stricter building-safety laws now mandate greater compliance with structural integrity standards. This is a win-win for landlords and tenants as it renews faith in America’s coastal cities. Now let’s turn our attention to the folks holding the title deeds. Who Can Own a Home in America’s Coastal Cities? That’s the $10 million question, given the outrageously expensive cost of lucrative real estate along the coast. Fortunately, there are many good deals to be had for anyone willing to roll up their sleeves and do a little work. Low-, middle-income, and high-net-worth individuals find homeownership to be the most effective way to build lasting wealth. It’s generational wealth that homeownership confers, particularly as it pertains to a portfolio of investments. Standard mortgage approvals require mounds of paperwork. This process typically begins with a detailed look at the applicant’s credit score, earnings history, tax returns, debt/income ratio, and several other factors. With the median home price now over $400,000 nationwide, and more at the coast, it’s easy to see how homeownership is out of reach for many people. However, anyone can work towards owning their own home or renting it out for a passive income stream. Mortgage providers tailor their offerings to their clientele. For example, a mortgage broker who works with veterans (service members who have honorably served their country) and eligible family members can facilitate a VA home purchase . That’s because veterans are part of an exclusive group that enjoys special mortgage benefits. VA loans are partially backed by the government, require no down payment, and may have qualification criteria that are a little easier for veterans. That’s not to say credit reports and earnings are irrelevant; they certainly are, but a Certificate of Eligibility (COE) confirming veteran status greases the wheels to get the process moving. Often, the interest rates on a VA loan are comparable to or lower than the prevailing interest rate on traditional mortgage loans. With no down payment or PMI, it’s a little easier for veterans to own their own home. Bear in mind, there are origination fees and commissions associated with VA home loans. Image by DepositPhotos Why Own an Oceanfront Home in a Hurricane State? Florida, the Sunshine State, is home to exquisite, ocean-facing properties. It just so happens to be a state with sunny skies pretty much year-round. It’s highly desirable with warm temperatures, palm trees, and a coastline as far as the eye can see. It’s also home to America’s entertainment playground with Universal Studios, Disney World, NASA, SeaWorld, the Everglades, Miami’s bustling nightlife , and of course, the Florida Keys and the Margaritaville vibe. In fact, Florida is different in so many ways from the rest of the United States – it’s a melting pot of cultures, personalities, and entertainment attractions. For all of these reasons, millions of people want to own property in Florida. Sure, there are downsides, monster storms, and inclement weather, but Floridians deal with them because the benefits of Florida living far outweigh the pitfalls. The risks and the rewards go hand-in-hand, and with excellent disaster relief preparedness in place, Florida remains a top-tier destination for investors. * Source By ML Staff.
