- The Doral Contemporary Art Museum (DORCAM) to Host Pop-Up Exhibition“Botero at Full Volume”
The Doral Contemporary Art Museum (DORCAM), in coordination with Adriana Meneses Art and David Restrepo Art, is pleased to host the pop-up exhibition, “Botero at Full Volume,” at CityPlace Doral. The exhibition, which showcases the graphic art of the celebrated Colombian artist Fernando Botero, opens to the public on Jan. 26 and will remain on view until June 30, 2022. Botero is known for paintings and sculptures that, with their gargantuan dimensions, appear to overflow galleries and cities around the world. However, the thick figuration of the Colombian has also flooded a field of plastic for a long time that is sometimes considered, unfairly, a minor art. “Botero at Full Volume” introduces 45 posters from collector Enrique Michelsen’s poster collection, “Fernando Botero, The Evolution of a Master,” which chronicles Botero's career since the beginning. In 1977, Michelsen acquired his first Botero poster dedicated to the World Theater Festival held that year in Nancy, France. Michelsen’s collection, which began as a hobby, became a document of the artist's life, because his posters reveal the magnitude of Botero's career. “Only by visually going through his posters is it possible to measure his extraordinary presence in the art world,” said Michelsen. The main themes of Botero’s thick and colorful graphics – either in small, medium or large format – depict bullfighting, religion, the nude or nature. Like artists Toulouse-Lautrec, Daumier and Manet, Botero showcased his art to the general public, many who did not visit galleries and museums. Born in Medellin, Columbia in 1932, Botero was struck by the creative impetus during his adolescence. He abandoned the apprenticeship of bullfighting to devote himself fully to painting, although bullfighting remained a theme in his artwork. He once confessed that he has done it all not by academy, but by intuition and work: “for pure passion.” Although the influence of Diego Rivera, Rousseau, Velázquez or Goya can be appreciated in his work, Botero’s histrionic passion for painting volume suddenly appeared while he was painting the mandolin in a still life in 1956. His goal is not to paint fatness and gigantism, he believed the feast of volume was its own visual rite to celebrate sensuality and beauty and described it as "an exaltation of life." “Through our partnership with Doral Contemporary Art Museum, we are excited to offer CityPlace Doral guests and the local community art and cultural initiatives for the whole family to enjoy,” said Mauro Olivieri, General Manager at CityPlace Doral. “‘Botero at Full Volume’ highlights the importance for the viewer in observing the master’s work in parallel to the evolution of the art of communication and graphic design in the last five decades,” said Marcelo Llobell, director of the Doral Contemporary Art Museum and co-curator of the exhibition. “Botero at Full Volume” is produced by DORCAM in collaboration with Enrique Michelsen Collection, Adriana Meneses Art Consultant and David Restrepo(Dr. Art). - Cymbal Development and DLT Global Launch Artists-In-Residence Program in Dania Beach
Cymbal DLT Arts Foundation, a foundation established by Cymbal Development and DLT Global, have launched an Artists-in-Residence Program at Oasis Pointe Residences, Cymbal Development and DLT Global’s newest design-driven, multi-unit waterfront apartment complex opening in Dania Beach this spring. The program aims to highlight the diversity, creativity, and soul of the arts community and advocate for artists across a spectrum of media and artistic approaches. The foundation is currently calling for submissions to the 2022 Artists-in-Residence Program from artists nationwide. As part of the Artists-in-Residence Program, Oasis Pointe is inviting up-and-coming creatives from all professional backgrounds, demographics, career stages, and artistic styles to live and work for free in its state-of-the-art residential building for up to six months. Artists’ partners, children, and pets will also be welcomed for the entire stay of the program. To be eligible, artists are required to either hold a bachelor’s, master’s, or Ph.D., be starting on a professional path in the arts, or be seeking to utilize the residency to cultivate a project. “South Florida is known for its vibrant art communities, including museums, colorful street murals, art walks, exhibitions, studios, and Art Basel, the leading global platform connecting collectors, galleries, and artists,” said Asi Cymbal, president of Cymbal Development. “In an ideal world, art would be free and accessible for everyone, and that is why we felt it was imperative to launch an Artists-in-Residence Program where we can provide a unique opportunity for creatives to advance their careers through access to our space, community connections, and financial support.” Artists will receive up to a six-month rent-free, fully-furnished residency at Oasis Pointe. At the completion of their residency, successful applicants and their families may be invited to extend their residency at Oasis Pointe or in any other Cymbal DLT community in South Florida. In exchange, the Artists-in-Residence Program requests that up to two original works be gifted to Oasis Pointe’s permanent collection to be displayed in the building’s common areas. The scope of work will be determined on an individual basis in conjunction with the artist. In an effort to create a meaningful dialogue between the artists and the residential community, artists will also be requested to share their practice via an open studio or lecture/slideshow on the property at least once during their stay. Artists interested in applying to the program need to submit images of up to five works and an artist statement to Residency@CymbalDevelopment.com. The winners will be chosen by a carefully selected panel of art professionals from the local community and announced by March 1, 2022. Artists can move in around May 1, 2022 or later. By ML Staff. An evening at The Collins Room rekindles the spirit of the jet set era in Miami Beach’s 1950’s and 60’s, when a night out embraced a proper cocktail, elevated cuisine, and a glamorous convivial setting. Signature elements of the dining room’s historic mystique - like art deco crown-molded ceilings and terrazzo floors - have been preserved by designers Antrobus & Ramirez, who have reimagined the space (once the original club’s 1920s cafeteria) with luxe, modern, interior finishes. The intimate supper club will enchant all who wish to experience a swanky, seductive, sophisticated evening out. Depending on your pleasure, the evening starts with a perfectly crafted classic cocktail at the bar, a tableside shaken Martini, or a glass of chilled champagne from the Club’s extensive collection, all served in 1920’s vintage stemware. Once cocktails are in hand, leisurely sample from a Chilled Seafood Tower, share a serving of Kaluga Caviar, or enjoy a Pineapple Jalapeno Snapper Ceviche. For your entrée you may select dishes such as a Grilled Whole Branzino, Lobster Fra Diavolo, Peking-style Chicken, or a Pepper Crusted Prime Rib. Before retreating to the Governor’s Loggia for live music and a nightcap, The Collins Room offers guests a menu of decadent desserts from a Bananas Foster Sundae to a Dark Chocolate Fondue. APICII the operator of The Bath Club - who are renowned for their expertise in concepting and operating a diverse collection of high-end bars, restaurants, and private event spaces across North America - have envisioned every moment at The Collins Room to treat guests to an opulent, one-of-a-kind evening, complete with the impeccable service and attention to detail for which The Bath Club is known for. After his first jump at the age of 20, he was hooked and knew he wanted to jump again and again. As an engineering student at the University of California San Diego, Kurtz returned to Michigan every summer to jump out of airplanes. He connected with a skydiving company in Southwestern Michigan and drove down every weekend, spending all his money to skydive. He launched his first business, Skydive Harbor Springs, in 2002, booking 160 tandem jumps that first summer. As word spread about this unique opportunity in the picturesque Northern Michigan community, the number of adrenaline rush seekers grew. In 2012, Kurtz and his staff booked over 20,000 tandem jumps at what is now a collection of coast-to-coast businesses with 9 skydiving centers in 6 states, including Virginia, Florida, Georgia, Arizona, California, and, of course, Michigan. Kurtz and his sister, Angela, are the Guinness World Record holders for most number of tandem jumps in 24 hours , breaking the previous record with their 105 consecutive tandem jumps in June 2010. Kurtz has made over 8500 skydive jumps , and says there is nothing quite like the thrill of the jump from an airplane and then traveling at 120 MPH! The freefall is followed by a peaceful float down from about 5,000 feet lasting about 7 minutes with a panoramic and breathtakingly beautiful view! Skydive South Beach highly recommends tandem for your first skydive . Tandem skydives require minimal training and maintain the highest degree of safety . Your instructor will be with you through the entire skydive and parachute ride. Just relax and enjoy the great views on your first jump!
