- American Heritage Schools Celebrates Seniors’ Early College Acceptances to Elite Universities
American Heritage Schools, a leading college preparatory school with the highest number of National Merit Scholars and highest U.S. Presidential Scholars of all high schools in Florida, is proud to announce that many of its 2022 graduating class have received early acceptances to the nation’s finest colleges and universities throughout the U.S. At American Heritage Schools, preparing for college begins as early as elementary school, and often by the time a student is a senior, he or she has selected a dream school. Many students choose to apply to their first-choice college through the early decision process and, again this year, many of these students received early acceptances to their first-choice schools. The American Heritage Schools Pre-Professional Programs, Science Research Institute, and 75 offerings in the arts, inspire students to choose their college majors and career aspirations. The rigorous curriculum and access to high-level resources at American Heritage Schools continue to prove successful year after year. Many of this year’s graduating class chose to apply to elite colleges and universities, including Harvard University, Stanford University, Columbia University, Cornell University, Princeton University, University of Pennsylvania, and Georgetown University, to name a few. American Heritage students enjoyed some of the highest acceptance rates to elite universities in the entire nation. Alexis Nguyen, an American Heritage Schools senior who will be attending Georgetown in fall, said, “I plan to double major in political economy and finance at Georgetown University, and the pre-law program at American Heritage Schools motivated me to participate in mock trial and moot court competitions and serve as the President of the Heritage Chapter of the Florida Law Honor Society. Those experiences helped with both my social capacity and academic ability to work hard and succeed. To have had instructors in high school that were attorneys and judges, gave me the extra edge.” American Heritage Schools’ students are dedicated, high achieving, and passionate about creating a better world and putting their academic, artistic, and altruistic endeavors to good use. Nigel Alexis, a senior at American Heritage Schools, will be attending Columbia University with plans to major in computer and electrical engineering. He said, “My future plan is for a career in the tech industry. The Pre-Engineering program at American Heritage Schools allowed me to explore my interest and passion for engineering and design to a higher level. It was a one-of-a-kind opportunity that led me to choose the major which I intend to pursue at Columbia University. To be taught only by expert engineers in high school, was an amazing experience” American Heritage Schools is the No. 1 private school in Florida for nationally recognized scholars, in math competition, science fair, mock trial, moot court, and speech and debate. Alumni are notable leaders in their chosen fields who are generating positive differences in the world. American Heritage Schools is an independent, non-sectarian, co-educational, college preparatory school in South Florida serving grades Pre-K3 to 12. “We are proud to have our students gain early acceptances to their dream schools,” said Dr. Doug Laurie, president of American Heritage Schools. “Each student demonstrates strength of character and the motivation to excel, and their futures are as equally bright as they are.” For more information, please visit: https://www.ahschool.com/early-college-acceptances-2022 By ML Staff. KAORI has named Miami-based chef Raymond Li as its new executive chef. The popular Mediterranean-Asian-inspired restaurant in Brickell is taking an entirely new, fresh approach to modern Asian cuisine with the reinvention of KAORI's signature menu, which debuted in January of this year. "We are beyond excited to finally be able to share this truly exceptional experience we’ve created at KAORI Miami, with all our guests,” says Diego Pagola, Creative Director of Umai Group & KAORI Miami. “Intention has been a very important factor in our conception of the brand, in creating an environment where our guests can feel welcome and at home. Every pillar put into this project lends to KAORI’s harmonic journey through the senses, led through gastronomy, music, and design.” Upon arrival, guests will find the entrance to the 4,500 sq. ft. restaurant at the ground level of SLS LUX Brickell, where they will be greeted by KAORI’s signature bar and lounge area. Appealing to those looking for an inviting neighborhood spot with an authentic evening-time vibe, the bar and lounge area also brings an inspired mixture of entertainment, live music, and exotic instrumentals from a wide range of cultures. The music component of the space plays a fundamental role in establishing the identity of KAORI as a whole, lending to the curation of the venue’s full-sensory guest experience. A signature KAORI playlist is also available for anyone to follow, offering guests a unique KAORI takeaway experience that alternates bi-weekly. Gastronomy Beyond the bar and lounge space, guests will come across a dimly lit staircase, which elegantly links to KAORI’s spacious upstairs dining area. Here, Chef Raymond Li serves as the heartbeat of the restaurant, creating a beautiful balance between modern and time-honored techniques while combining the two worlds of Mediterranean and Asian cuisine. - Feeding South Florida® Announces its Third Annual “Feed Your Creativity” Art Competition
Feeding South Florida, the leading domestic hunger-relief organization in South Florida, is excited to announce its Third Annual “Feed Your Creativity” Art Competition. Elementary, middle, and high school students throughout Palm Beach, Broward, Miami-Dade, and Monroe counties are invited to participate for the opportunity to have their artwork converted to one of Feeding South Florida's truck wraps – a 36-foot moving billboard that travels throughout South Florida. The art competition is the first of Feeding South Florida’s several “Summer Hunger Ends Here” initiatives, a campaign designed to raise the awareness and funds necessary to end summer hunger in South Florida. It’s aimed to engage students, their parents, teachers, and schools in a critical issue, while also recognizing and highlighting the talent in our community. Summer months are some of the most difficult times for South Florida families because when school is not in session, some kids don’t have access to free or reduced-price school meals. In South Florida alone, there are nearly 200,000 children who don’t know from where they will get their next meal, and over 500,000 who rely on free or reduced meals during the school year. Seeking to fill the void of school meals, Feeding South Florida is a proud sponsor of the USDA Summer Food Service Program, providing meals to kids at Summer BreakSpots, pop-up mobile pantries in low-income communities. Feeding South Florida also assists families in its Community Caring Centers at both warehouse locations. “We are excited to announce our third annual ‘Feed Your Creativity’ Art Competition that kicks-off our ‘Summer Hunger Ends Here’ campaign,” said Sari Vatske, executive president of Feeding South Florida. “Participating in the art competition allows students to give a voice to nearly 200,000 children who go to bed hungry in South Florida.” The first-place winner will be awarded: Artwork is displayed as a truck wrap on a 36-foot tractor/trailer that travels throughout Palm Beach, Broward, Miami-Dade, and Monroe Counties. Artwork prominently displayed at Feeding South Florida’s Pembroke Park warehouse until Aug. 31, 2022. Artwork inclusion in Feeding South Florida's “Million Meal Summer” Food Frenzy promotion, including digital toolkit and/or social media assets. Announcement on social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Other accolades include: Youth People’s Choice Award: the piece with the most “likes” on Facebook and Instagram wins. Youth Ambassador Award: Feeding South Florida’s kids council chooses this award. Orange Ribbon Award: The judges choose the piece that speaks most to the mission of ending hunger. School Spirit Award: Given to the school that has the highest number of pieces submitted. In keeping with Feeding South Florida’s belief that food is a bridge to understanding others, the 2022 theme is “Food is Community.” The deadline to submit artwork is Feb. 28. All artwork will be displayed during a Gallery Night in May, where winners will also be announced. The winning truck will be revealed in Summer 2022. Additional instructions regarding preferred colors, size, and accepted mediums are available at www.tinyurl.com/ARTtoFSF. Students may also register to learn more. Sponsorships and in-kind donations are available. For more information, contact Michele Fernandez at 954.518.1818 x1863 or mfernandez@feedingsouthflorida.org.
