Sailrock Resort: Turks & Caicos Luxury Stay Guide
Updated: Dec 21, 2024
South Caicos, the smallest island in the Caicos archipelago, offers an off-the-beaten-path escape for adventurous travelers. Untouched by mass tourism, it features small-scale fishing and boutique tourism, with no crowded beaches or luxury shopping. It is an authentic Caribbean getaway.

One of the few untouched tropical destinations is a small island, just eight square miles in size, named South Caicos. It is home to the luxurious Sail Rock, a charming resort seamlessly integrated into its natural surroundings, offering privacy, luxury accommodations, and pristine natural treasures unlike anything I have seen.
ACCESS
Getting to South Caicos from Providenciales Airport (PLS), the main gateway to Turks and Caicos, is an adventure in itself. Just a 25-minute plane ride away, the journey offers anything but dull moments. Flying in a small propeller plane, you’ll be treated to breathtaking views of turquoise waters, secluded cays, and vibrant ecosystems, making the experience a memorable part of your trip.
At South Caicos Airport (XSC), a white Jeep was waiting to take me on my journey to Sail Rock—a clear sign that a safari-like adventure was about to unfold. And unfold it did! The bumpy ride along an unpaved road was as exhilarating as the plane journey itself. Wild donkeys, vibrant flamingos in shades of pink and red, and historic salt ponds dotted the landscape, making the ride to Sailrock an unforgettable experience.
Upon arrival, I was warmly greeted by the friendly staff and welcomed into the open-air lobby with its Caribbean architecture. Thoughtful touches, such as a refreshing towel and welcome drinks, were offered. Situated on a unique ridge about sixty feet above sea level, Sailrock offers spectacular views of two stunning bodies of water—the Caicos Bank to the west and the Atlantic Ocean to the east.
A few important details about accessing South Caicos: Sailrock’s reservations team typically arranges flight transfers, which are included in most stays. For a more exclusive journey, private air and boat charters can be arranged upon request. Excitingly, starting in February 2025, American Airlines will offer the first-ever direct flight from the U.S. to South Caicos, with twice-weekly service from Miami!
ACCOMMODATIONS
During my stay at Sailrock Resort, I had the delight to stay in one of the Beachfront Villas, located just above the pristine blue turquoise waters. The villa perfectly blended indoor comfort with lush outdoor gardens, terrace and quite large pool overlooking the Atlantic ocean . The vaulted ceilings and open-plan layout created an airy, relaxed atmosphere, while the private outdoor shower garden and direct beach access added a touch of indulgent luxury.
While exploring the resort, I admired the Ridgetop Suites, situated on an elevated ridge with sweeping views of the Caicos Bank and Atlantic Ocean. Their open-air design, large windows, and wrap-around terraces seemed ideal for catching both sunrises and sunsets. For those seeking even more privacy, I recommend staying at one of the Peninsula Villas which offers an exclusive retreat, complete with ocean-view bedrooms, outdoor pools, and bespoke services like private chefs and butlers.
DINNING
Sailrock Resort features two distinct dining venues: The Cove and The Great House. The Cove offers a relaxed, casual ambiance with stunning views and a dynamic menu that includes small bites, sandwiches, salads, and island-inspired dishes like the daily catch, local conch, and ceviche. The Great House serves as the main venue for breakfast and dinner, featuring a wrap-around terrace with breathtaking views of both the Atlantic Ocean and Caicos Bank. The menu combines Caribbean classics with modern twists, offering standout appetizers like snapper crudo and shrimp chowder, as well as entrées such as grilled lobster (in season) and stuffed beef tenderloin for meat lovers.
AMENITIES
Sailrock Resort offers a perfect balance of tranquility and outdoor adventure, providing plenty of ways to explore and enjoy the natural beauty of the property. During my stay, I kayaked around the property, taking in the stunning views, and spent an afternoon strolling along a secluded white sand beach. For those who love the water, complimentary non-motorized activities like snorkeling, paddleboarding, Hobie Cat sailing, and bicycling are available. The surrounding barrier reef is a must-see for snorkeling enthusiasts!
Beyond water activities, the resort features an infinity-edge pool and sun deck, spa cabanas for select treatments, and a fitness center for wellness seekers. Sports enthusiasts can enjoy tennis, pickleball, basketball, and even a soccer pitch. For a more curated experience, Sailrock offers excursions such as guided kayak tours, bonefishing lessons, private boat charters, and rugged ATV adventures. Whether it’s a private beach bonfire, a secluded beach picnic, or an indigenous seafaring experience.
