- Authenticity: A Solo Exhibition of New Paintings by Brandon Clarke at Visu Contemporary
Visu Contemporary is pleased to announce Authenticity a solo exhibition of new paintings by artist Brandon Clarke. The exhibit will be on display at the gallery from April 20th to May 11th, 2023—with an opening reception on April 20th from 6 pm to 8 pm. Brandon Clarke is an emerging abstract expressionist who has won numerous awards recently. Authenticity will feature Clarke’s latest creations which continue to explore the theme of self-discovery. Clarke uses a unique combination of words, color, and composition to create tension while Jux posts various techniques, often within the backside of the canvas, to expose hidden messages. Clarke’s technique and material choices express literal and metaphorical characteristics on the canvas to imply the question, “Who are we really within the framework of our lives and society?” As an African-American, the murder of Gorge Floyd sparked raw emotions intensifying Clarke’s pursuit to take his art to a higher level. “It made me realize that through the years I’ve found clever ways to conceal the most wounded parts of my being. While painting, the canvas exposes those wounds, and it has the ability to speak to me as I search for what is real and authentic,” said Clarke. Clarke is a second-generation artist. He was first introduced to art in the back of his grandmother’s house where he used to paint with her as a child—and her teachings are still ever present in his work. Trained as an Architectural Designer, with two master’s degrees from Hampton and Au-burn Universities, Clarke has worked with one of Miami’s most reputable architecture firms for nearly a decade. I’ve found the more vulnerable I am, the more real I am able to become. Thus, the more truth-telling I do about my actions, the more authentic I become. Through painting, I am the most authentic version of myself. I know there are people who haven’t had the right tools to unlock who they really are. My art provides a lens to look into the lost parts of our souls and to call out authenticity. This exhibit is a reflection of my journey towards self-awareness, and I hope it will inspire others to embark on a similar journey,” said Clarke. “Brandon Clarke’s work is a testament to the power of art to spark awareness and encourage self-reflection. We are honored to host this exhibit and share his talent with the community,” said the gallery’s owner, Blake Pearson. Don’t miss this opportunity to experience the power of contemporary abstract expressionism and explore self-awareness and authenticity through Brandon Clarke’s captivating paintings. Visu Contemporary is an artist's first gallery where the emphasis is placed on quality and presentation. VISU Contemporary’s mission is to contribute to the art history canon by presenting provocative and inclusive exhibitions, projects, installations, collaborations, and performances with the goal of making each exhibition a must-see while inspiring curiosity and intrigue from every visitor. - The Jills Zeder Group Lists Luxury Waterfront Compound in Boca Raton’s Royal Palm for $52 Million
The Jills Zeder Group has listed the Parker Estate, a one-of-a-kind custom property owned by the family of Constant Contact Founder and Tech Entrepreneur Randy Parker, for $52 million. The triple-lot compound in Boca Raton’s prestigious Royal Palm Yacht & Country Club neighborhood is located at 2499 E Maya Palm Drive, Boca Raton, FL 33432. The property is listed by Jill Hertzberg and Jon Mann of The Jills Zeder Group. The stunning 1.7-acre waterfront estate includes a prized southeast-facing corner lot (originally the most expensive lot in Royal Palm), 437 feet of water frontage overlooking both the Intracoastal Waterway and a side canal, and an arboretum-like vacant 0.4-acre lot across the street. Since its founding, Royal Palm has been a gathering ground and desired address for South Florida’s high society and community, business, philanthropic and social leaders. Parker’s late father, pioneering financial publisher Glen K. Parker purchased the properties with his wife Sandy, a well-known Boca Raton CPA and business leader, in the mid-1990s to be their primary residence and a resort-like venue for entertaining family and friends. Glen K. Parker is best known for his company The Institute for Econometric Research, which revolutionized the financial publishing industry and helped fuel the massive growth of mutual funds, beginning with the popular investor newsletter Market Logic in 1975 and culminating in the acquisition of the business by Time, Inc. in 1998. The Parker Estate, which was featured in the 59th edition of Florida Architecture magazine in 1998, was designed by celebrated architect Mitch Kunik to pay homage to some of the owners’ favorite vacation spots. The estate draws inspiration from the tropical resort lifestyle, deftly balancing nature, luxury and privacy. Key features include: A 10,000-square-foot curvilinear main house with custom ceilings, windows and innovative architectural elements, and interior design by award-winning designer Arlene Workman. The principal suite on the top level of the home with expansive views, blackout shutters, his-and-hers bath suites, massive closets, workout and sitting areas, and private access to a rooftop sun patio. A separate guest house reminiscent of the bungalows at the Little Palm Island resort in the Florida Keys, including a unique palm frond ceiling, soaking tub for two and private outdoor shower. Two swimming pools, including an infinity-edge pool that wraps around the main house and overlooks the Intracoastal Waterway, and a more traditional pool between the main house and guest house. A covered patio for entertaining and outdoor living inspired by the grand outdoor dining pavilion at Little Dix Bay Resort in the British Virgin Islands, with a pyramidal roof supported by three columns of different heights. A large, open kitchen with a 15-foot-long island and double stoves, ovens, sinks and dishwashers, where many cooking classes and tasting demonstrations by local chefs have been hosted. The beautifully landscaped, retreat-like grounds are ideal for relaxing in nature as well as entertaining ― weddings, boat parade watching parties, wine tastings and more have been hosted there. The grounds were expertly designed and maintained by Craig Morell, one of the top horticulturists in Florida, the former horticulturist of what is now The Boca Raton resort and the Pinecrest Gardens in Miami, and a retired director of Coconut Grove’s The Kampong, one the gardens of the National Tropical Botanical Garden. He helped bring the owners’ vision of a tropical jungle paradise to life, importing unique trees and plants from around the world. The Parker Estate is a magnificent fusion of waterfront luxury, architectural brilliance and natural splendor. With a rich history and an unparalleled location, this property remains one of South Florida’s most remarkable homes. Quotes: “From the time this property was first listed for sale by Arvida in 1959 as the most expensive in Royal Palm Yacht & Country Club, it has been unparalleled,” said Jill Hertzberg of The Jills Zeder Group. “The storied history behind the property, merged with the distinguished modern-day appeal of the Royal Palm neighborhood, makes 2499 E Maya Palm Dr. an exquisite opportunity for the right luxury buyer.” “The ‘Parker Estate’ boasts the epitome of Boca prestige, a luxurious setting on the huge waterfront lot, and ample space to build on the currently vacant lot,” said Jon Mann of The Jills Zeder Group. “Additionally, the estate’s Royal Palm location is enviable, set in close proximity to the recently renovated hotel The Boca Raton, a premier and iconic destination in the city.” By ML Staff. - South Florida Nonprofits Thrive Thanks to Quest Cares Program
Shared office space company Quest Workspaces provides free office space to more than 50 nonprofit organizations. What do Style Saves, Miami Allstars, Unity Coalition, Re-Entry One and National Voices for Equality, Education and Enlightenment (NVEEE) have in common? Yes, they are all Florida-based nonprofits. But, more importantly, they all benefit from a program called Quest Cares, an initiative that provides free and discounted workspaces, meeting rooms and business services to qualified organizations. Quest Cares is the philanthropic arm of Quest Workspaces, the largest female-owned shared workspace company in the country, operating 11 high-quality co-working office locations in Florida, one in Manhattan, and two more on the way in 2023. The company was founded in 2010 by Laura Kozelouzek, an industry veteran with over 30 years of experience in the hospitality and flexible workspace industries. Quest’s mission is not just to provide office space to its clients (affectionately called “Questers”); it seeks to enable them to thrive in their businesses – and their well-being. Quest boasts commercial office space in some of South Florida’s most coveted business locales, including Brickell (Miami’s “Wall Street South”), Downtown Miami, Coral Gables, Doral, Fort Lauderdale, Palm Beach and beyond. As the company extends its footprint (in 2022, Quest added more than 106,000 square feet of office space to its existing locations, expanding its total portfolio to more than 310,000 square feet), it seeks to help even more organizations through Quest Cares. Since the program was established in 2014, Quest has donated more than $411,000 of private and virtual office spaces and meeting rooms to 52 nonprofit organizations. “Giving back and serving are core Quest values,” says Kozelouzek, a visionary business builder who was recently recognized with the South Florida Business Journal’s 2022 Influential Business Woman Award. “By sharing the same resources as Fortune 500 companies, the nonprofit organizations in the Quest Cares program can better leverage our community and infrastructure to help as many people as possible.” Rent is one of the biggest expenses for nonprofits, and many organizations cannot afford to have a physical address, leaving them to operate out of living rooms or nearby coffee shops. Thanks to Quest Cares, these organizations are able to set down permanent roots, enjoy professional space to do business, meet with potential donors and partners, and access essential business services that many take for granted, like Wi-Fi, printers, office supplies, virtual meeting technology and more. “Without a Miami home base and a meeting location, we would not have been able to apply for our original grant of $15,000 from The Miami Foundation,” says Jowharah Sanders, founder and executive director of NVEEE, which provides bullying, violence, and suicide prevention education and mentoring to K-12 school communities, including students, parents, teachers and administrators. For almost 10 years, the organization has had an office at Quest, where it holds fundraisers, including one that raised funds to send 30 students to the White House during Anti-Bullying Month. “In 2020, we moved offices from Quest’s Biscayne location to its Plantation location to accommodate more students in Broward, Palm Beach and Miami-Dade counties,” Sanders adds. “Thanks to a bigger office space and virtual meeting technology, we grew our ambassador program from 30-40 students to 85 students.” Re-Entry One is another local organization benefiting from Quest Cares. Founded in 2021 by South American-born, Miami-raised Giovanni Sairras, the South Florida nonprofit provides citizens released from jail or prison with transitional services such as food, clothing, makeup for women, housing referrals, assistance with healthcare enrollment, substance abuse counseling and management, job skills and more. Sairras now has office space at Quest’s newest workspace location in Downtown Miami, where he can meet with, and be close to, the hundreds of participants he serves in the community. With its mission, “Freedom to work the way you want,” Quest Workspaces has established a recognizable brand that attracts clients from fast-growing startups to multinational corporations. The company hosts at least two community events per month at each location and facilitates networking and cross-industry collaboration among tenants. Customer service is also a top priority, as each location staffs full-time team members dedicated to serving individual tenants. “Helping nonprofits is just another way that Quest is dedicated to giving back to those around us,” Kozelouzek says. “Through the program, we hope to continue to enrich the lives of those we serve in our workspaces and our greater community.” By ML Staff. Constellation Culinary Group (CCG) announced the appointment of Loris Navone to executive chef at Verde restaurant located inside the Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) in Downtown Miami. The chef, who brings global experience to the waterfront restaurant, has launched a new locally-sourced and seasonal menu that is inspired by PAMM’s rotating art exhibitions that are showcased throughout the season. In his new role, Navone will direct and oversee all food service operations throughout the expansive museum restaurant, known for its sprawling views of Biscayne Bay and an artistic approach to casual dining. The eatery collaborates with Pérez Art Museum Miami to host an ongoing series of events, including the launch of its latest exhibition, “Love is Calling,” by globally-celebrated artist Yayoi Kusama. Navone launched his formidable hospitality career studying at the Culinary Institute IRFoP in Trieste, Italy, before taking on a wide variety of high-profile positions spanning Italy to Singapore, and Washington, DC, to South Florida. One of many career high points is his contribution to winning BRAVO TV’s Best New Restaurant competition for Dolce Italian at Miami Beach’s Gale Hotel during his tenure as Chef de Cuisine in 2015. “Loris’ dedication to sustainable food and his global experience bring a new and unique perspective to Verde’s spring menu,” explained Adelee Cabrera, VP of operations for Constellation Culinary Group. “You can truly see his culinary passion shine when choosing from the menu's offerings, including a selection of dishes that were inspired by Yayoi Kusama’s latest exhibit at PAMM.” The menu launches at Verde today, offering a collection of new dishes, including the Miso-Roasted Salmon ($32), which is served with a corn puree, soy reduction, baby bok choy, tsuyu broth and rice pearls and the Verde Risotto ($20), a new signature dish, which includes a creamy spinach puree, gorgonzola cream and topped with pine nuts. - The Multifaceted World of Dr. Jeff Epstein, MD–From Hair Restoration to Giving Back
Dr. Jeff Epstein MD is so world renowned for his groundbreaking work in hair restoration and cosmetic procedures, that he’s been dubbed the “doctor’s doctor.” He embodies unwavering surgical technique and an unparalleled creative eye in every method of his profession. Since the establishment of his private practice in 1994, Dr. Jeff has “performed over 20,000 surgical procedures - all above the shoulders.” Praised as the “doctor’s doctor”, many of his patients are actually experts in healthcare - a testament to the respect he maintains in his field. They travel from all over the world to receive his delicate operations, from hairline lowering to eyebrow regrowth to scalp micropigmentation. But, it’s not only doctors traveling to receive his care. ‘Medical Tourism’ is an especially prevalent term in the 2020 era - hundreds of thousands of Americans travel the world each year to have medical or dental procedures performed. As reported by Healthcare Insider, even with travel restrictions caused by the pandemic, in 2020 nearly 290,000 Americans traveled abroad for healthcare. In the pre-pandemic year of 2019, it was reported that 780,000 Americans traveled abroad for healthcare. And yet, 75% of Dr. Jeff’s patient base is comprised of wealthy international travelers that fly to Miami specifically for his practice. So, why does Dr. Jeff subvert these stereotypes? Because foreign nationals know that they will get their money's worth, alongside truly natural-looking results. Not only do Dr. Jeff’s operations require no shaving, but his practice as a whole prioritizes research-backed techniques, technical knowhow with artistic strategy, and quality above all else. Aside from his critical expertise, Dr. Jeff is beloved by his clients for his ability to connect with them on a personal level. At the core of his treatment, he ensures that he personally sees each and every patient throughout every step of the process, “from the initial consultation, to the actual procedure(s)” to the follow-up care. Patient, kind, and extremely knowledgeable, he maintains a “team of 15 highly experienced assistants”, including “two Nurse Practitioners to ensure the highest and most professional level of care.” Dr. Jeff has been consistently featured in the media for his profound expertise, even giving his two cents on whether or not Elon Musk had a hair transplant for Best Life magazine. Backed by his own numerous scientific articles and chapters in surgical textbooks, he also serves as Editor for the official publication for the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery. Outside of the operating room, Dr. Jeff is a devoted member of his community. A pioneer of his field, he serves as a Volunteer Assistant Professor for two aesthetic surgery fellowship programs at the University of Miami, “publishes and lectures on his topics of expertise” and instructs doctors around the world in his field. Dedicated to giving back, he provides “pro-bono reconstructive surgery to children and patients in need” through The Gorana and Jeffrey Epstein Foundation and Operation Restore. - Dillard Center for the Arts Hosts Annual Christopher Dorsey Jazz Scholarship Fundraising Event
As the official advocacy organization for Broward County’s esteemed magnet program Dillard Center for the Arts (DCA), the Dillard Center for the Arts Foundation (DART) is hosting their 2nd annual Christopher Dorsey Jazz Scholarship Fundraising event at ArtServe in Fort Lauderdale on Friday, April 14th from 7:00pm – 10:00pm. The fundraiser is one of the key initiatives sponsored by DART in their role, providing a voice and vision for the Dillard Center for the Arts and its students. Through this annual event, DART raises crucial funds for scholarships to benefit jazz students in their post-secondary pursuits. This evening will feature live music, libations, food, and a silent auction, and is focused on the continued support of DCA graduates who in many circumstances need financial assistance in their efforts to attend colleges and postsecondary programs to pursue both their artistic talents and academic goals. The fundraiser and scholarship pay homage to the legendary Director of Jazz and Contemporary Music Studies, Christopher Dorsey who retired in 2022, but who’s legacy continues to inspire the direction and high expectations of the nationally recognized program. Dorsey assumed leadership of the program in 2004, and developed the jazz program into one of the premier high school jazz programs in the country. Under his guidance, the initial jazz band evolved into 3 critically acclaimed bands with many of his students accepted to the most prestigious colleges, universities, and conservatories in the country. With the high quality of talent being incubated at DCA, this fundraiser and the generosity of attending donors and sponsors affords graduates the opportunity to receive assistance through the funds raised during this evening of great music and a student-focused mission. In preparing for his year’s event, Kyle Harris, President of DART noted, “We continue to be excited about our work on behalf of the many talented young people at the Dillard Center for the Arts in the areas of dance, music, theater, and the visual arts. We are grateful to the sponsors and patrons who support DART and DCA, not only at this annual fundraiser, but throughout the year.” Tickets for this event are $75.00 and can be purchased online at dca.ludus.com or by calling the DCA office at 754-322-0838. To support DART and their continued advocacy for the students and programs of DCA, please visit the DART website at www.supportdart.org By ML Staff. Image courtesy of DART
- Best Places to Adopt A Pet In Miami
Owning a pet not only saves a life, gives it a shelter, a home and a family where it can grow old in a safe environment but it directly helps one to alleviate loneliness, anxiety, sadness and work stress. Pets pick up nuanced human gestures and advance themselves for affection and core love. They are often kinder to you than you are to yourself. The four paws can be your best friend, a walking therapy, a companion and a go-to creature when you are down. So let’s find out the pet adoption places in Miami to get ourselves an adorable pet. 1 - Humane Society of Greater Miami The Humane Society is renowned for a reason. You can adopt a puppy or kitten for a nominal fee that includes vaccinations, spay or neuter, a microchip and a bag of dog food. Puppies also get a dog tag included in the price which is cute in itself. The only requirement to adopt these cuddly creatures is a valid I.D. and a copy of your rental lease, if you are a renter. Certainly a reliable place to go for a pet adoption. Address: 16101 W. Dixie Highway North Miami Beach, FL 33160 Telephone: (305) 696-0800 Website: Humane Society of Greater Miami, Soffer and Fine Adoption Center 2 - Miami-Dade County Animal Services This is a home to myriad abandoned and homeless animals. Unlike the Humane Society, these lovable creatures face the possibility of euthanasia. That’s why this is the perfect place to adopt a puppy or a kitten. Your adoption fee includes vaccinations, a microchip, a tag for puppies and that warm fuzzy feeling that comes with saving a life. You just have to bring a valid I.D. and a proof of residence. Address: 7401 N.W. 74th St. Miami, FL 33166 Telephone: (305) 884-1101 Website: Miami-Dade County Animal Services 3 - Friends Forever Rescue This place specializes in adopting dogs. All of its dogs are rescues, and it hosts a virtual shelter that allows you to find the perfect pet online, or go to PetSmart on Saturday and Petco on Sunday to see the puppies in person. If you’re looking up for kittens, it also has a limited selection of felines. Adoption requirements include mailing or faxing an application from its website, and paying an adoption fee in cash or check only. Address: P.O. Box 163455 Miami, FL 33116 Telephone: (786) 229-9002 Website: Friends Forever Rescue 4: The Cat Network It is an ASPCA-affiliated company that also utilizes a network of volunteers and foster homes instead of housing cats in a shelter. You can choose from an abundance of cats and kittens online knowing this organization works hard to save cats through non-lethal population control, such as sterilization, instead of euthanasia. Your adoption fee includes deworming, vaccinations and spay/neuter. Find the adoption application on its website and rescue one of more than 7,000 cats adopted through the group since 1995. Address: P.O. Box 347228 Miami, FL 33234 Telephone: (305) 255-3482 Website: The Cat Network 5 - Dalmatian Rescue, Inc. and Pets at Risk Rescue Pets at Risk Rescue, like many pet adoption agencies, do not have a physical address. Its adopters are taken care of through a network of foster care volunteers. Potential owners need only go to its website to view the dogs up for adoption. Complete an application on its website, fax vaccination records of your current pets, submit to a home visit, pay a fee, and sign the adoption agreement. The fee includes vaccinations, spay or neuter, and your pet will already be house trained. Cat and dog breeds in addition to dalmatians are available through the Pets at Risk Rescue program under Dalmatian Rescue Inc. Address: P.O.
