- Dior Presents 2025 Cruise Collection in Pertshire, Scotland
In 1955, Christian Dior traveled to Scotland to present his fashion creations in the ballroom of the Gleneagles Hotel. For the 2025 Cruise Collection, Maria Grazia Chiuri chose the spectacular terrace gardens of Drummond Castle as the narrative setting. Against a gray stone backdrop, the Creative Director of Dior women’s lines bridged eras and cultures with this latest outdoor runway show. Photos from the 1955 Spring-Summer show have been transformed into prints or transformed into appliqués on pleated skirts. The iconic Scottish kilt and tartan fabrics are celebrated in fresh expressions with myriad color iterations. As Christian Dior wrote in The Little Dictionary of Fashion: “Tartan is probably the only fancy fabric that resists changing fashions.” Fabric favorites in the collection include velvet set off by lace to dress contemporary equestrians. Lengths alternate between short and long, coats and capes protecting and enveloping women’s bodies, some adoorned with a majestic map of Scotland. Cuts create exaggeratedly wide sleeves, while gathered skirts and bustiers resplendent with embroidery. Inspired by the tragic destiny of Mary, Queen of Scots, who was an accomplished embroiderer, Maria Grazia Chiuri revisits the Millefleurs motif, transposing it into heraldic embroidery featuring the unicorn and thistle, both symbols of Scotland. Wearing rain boots or high wader boots, Dior women channeled punk or romanticism. Their faces unadorned or brightened with pearls, they had a conquering allure, even wearing fishnet so feathery it appeared woven from light. ML Staff. Content/image(s) courtesy of LVMH
- Rotem Bensaadom Crowned The 2024 Swim Upcycle Challenge Winner At Paraiso Miami Swim Week
On May 31 during Paraiso Miami Swim Week, five finalists had the special opportunity to debut their designs on the runway, vying for coveted mentorships, a generous cash prize, and a treasure trove of Sharpie Creative Markers, all decided by a judging panel of luminaries including Gina Lazaro, Vice President of Brand Management for Sharpie’s parent company, Newell Brands; Ivy Heilman, Senior Buyer for Intimates, Swim and Active at Anthropologie; Keili Leahy, Senior Buyer at URBAN OUTFITTERS; and Madison Rexroat, ELLE Magazine. After careful deliberation, the judging panel crowned ROTEM BENSAADON the 2024 Swim Upcycle Challenge Winner at Paraiso Miami Swim Week May 31, 2024. ROTEM is a graduating student at Istituto Marangoni at the Miami School of Fashion and Design and showcased two custom designed bikini looks all from recycled materials. To accent the swimwear runway styles, ROTEM created two clutch purses from recycled cans, spray painted in silver metallic then hand drew prints using the new Sharpie Creative Markers’ paint-like, no-bleed ink in colors that pop on light and dark surfaces. Each contestant showcased custom looks on the runway to a sold-out audience, from which the judges decided live at the event where they announced ROTEM BENSAADON as the winner. All the contestants custom designed accessories made with the Sharpie Creative Markers remain on display at the Paraiso Swim Week main tent through June 2nd. The event’s purpose is to "create opportunity for young creator talent, support sustainability for the future of fashion, and encourage creativity and self-expression through our ‘World is Your Canvas’ campaign in celebration of the launch of Sharpie® Creative Markers,” said Gina Lazaro, Vice President of Brand Management for Sharpie’s parent company, Newell Brands. Sharpie will also support all the designers of Paraiso Miami Swim Week through their sponsorship partnerships including another on runway collaboration with ACACIA. - Schiaparelli's Extraterrestrial Elegance
In the ethereal realm of haute couture, where fashion transcends mere garments to become art, Schiapareli unveils its mesmerizing vision for Spring-Summer 2024, aptly named “Schiaparelien.” Drawing inspiration from a celestial connection rooted in history, this collection pays homage to Elsa Schiaparelli’s uncle, Giovanni Schiaparelli. In 1877, Giovanni, serving as the director of the Brera Observatory in Milan, made a groundbreaking discovery that transcended the boundaries of Earth. He identified a series of channels on Mars, an expansive area akin to the Grand Canyon. This pivotal moment not only added to our cosmic knowledge but also birthed the term “martian,” sparking the inception of our modern fascination with extraterrestrial life—a fascination that still captivates us today. “Schiaparelien” weaves a narrative that marries the elegance of haute couture with the cosmic curiosity ignited by Giovanni’s celestial revelation. The collection serves as a sartorial ode to the intersection of science, history, and imagination. Elsa Schiaparelli’s legacy is ever-evolving, and “Schiaparelien” embodies the avant-garde spirit that defines the house. Expect celestial motifs, otherworldly silhouettes, and a color palette that mirrors the vastness of the cosmos. Each piece is a celestial dance, an exploration of the unknown, and a testament to the enduring allure of the mysterious and the extraordinary. As we delve into the Haute Couture Spring-Summer 2024 collection, Schiaparelli invites us to contemplate the cosmos through the lens of fashion. “Schiaparelien” not only dresses the body but also adorns it in a celestial language that speaks to our timeless fascination with the enigmatic wonders of the universe. In this cosmic ballet, Schiaparelli continues to push the boundaries of fashion, inviting us to embrace the extraordinary in every stitch and silhouette. To learn more, visit: www.schiaparelli.com. - Celebrity Stylist Turned Fashion School Owner and Director Celebrates South Florida Fashion Academy’s Six Year Anniversary With End-of-Year Student Fashion Show
Taj McGill started out as a celebrity stylist in South Florida nearly 15 years ago and since then, she has founded and scaled an innovative fashion and beauty school for middle and high school students in Fort Lauderdale. South Florida Fashion Academy (SF/FA) of Fort Lauderdale is now celebrating its sixth year of educating more than 1,000 Black and Brown talented and passionate south Florida students in Broward County. As the school year comes to an end this June, SF/FA is celebrating its leadership team and SF/FA’s milestones in fulfilling its educational mission. Fast forward to 2024, the South Florida Fashion Academy has become South Florida's leading fashion and beauty academy for middle and high school students and is gearing up to host its Second Annual Student Fashion Show and Portfolio Review in Fort Lauderdale’s new Arts Village District at the new YMCA in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. located at 1409 NW 6th Street from 6.pm. to 9 p.m. Seven SFFA middle and high school students will each present their own unique fashion collections in front of 200 guests at this year’s fashion show, with everyone from parents to media and local fashion influencers in attendance. “If ticket sales are any indication, this will be one of Fort Lauderdale’s most anticipated fashion events of the year, with nearly 70 percent of tickets already sold. We’re proud to support and embolden these young, creative fashion students as they lead the way as the next generation of talented fashion designers,” said Taj McGill, founder and creative director of the South Florida Fashion Academy. This year’s student fashion designers will include Blake Sabrin, Evrose Myrtil, Gabby Isom, Khyla Beaujin, Khyla Purchas, Rosetta Smith, Selicia Robinson and Terreek Guillaume. “These emerging fashion designers have worked diligently over the last year to handcraft their own unique fashion collections and they are excited to present them to the world. Each student will present six to 8 creative fashion looks that range from sustainable upcycled fashion capsules to urban streetwear and glamorous red carpet ensembles,” McGill continued. During this year’s event, SFFA will spotlight and celebrate one talented fashion design student with the Designer of The Year Award. The award will be presented with a scholarship by the academy’s Fashion Director, Mr. Vice. “It’s inspiring to work with these young and passionate students every day. This is why I founded the academy– to help them develop their craft and provide them with the resources and tools necessary to bring their fashion design and beauty concepts to fruition. This year’s recipient for the DOTY won’t be revealed until the night of the event, but I can say the student is quite the innovative fashion creative,” said McGill. With live beats provided by DJ Sam Goodman and light refreshments available to attendees, Broward County’s favorite fashionistas will come together to mingle and celebrate innovative fashion and beauty as understood by the academy’s brightest students. “We’re extremely excited and proud of this year’s graduating SFFA students and what they have created– as our fourth year operating the South Florida Fashion Academy, this is a special moment for our entire team and students alike. We have now graduated 1,000 students, many of which are bright Black and Latino students. As a Black woman myself, it brings me so much joy to pour into other young Black and Brown students and help them fulfill their destiny,” McGilll continued. McGill is a true creative who is proud to have founded and develped SF/FA into an established institute of learning and creativity. "Do it scared is a motto I've always lived by," McGill says. SF/FA offers programs in fashion design and merchandising, barbering, cosmetology, makeup artistry, skin care, nail technology, as well as business development and entrepreneurship. “Our unique programs were developed by me and my team for middle and high school students with the ultimate mission in mind: to educate, inspire, and foster a creative environment that provides advanced knowledge and useful entrepreneurial skills.
