  • Pan American Art Projects presents "The Anatomy Lesson" by Pavel Acosta

Pan American Art Projects is pleased to announce The Anatomy Lesson , a solo exhibition by Miami-based artist Pavel Acosta. This show features a new body of work in dialogue with Acosta’s signature technique of "stolen paintings,” while still exploring appropriation, materiality, and cultural commentary. Acosta, known for his innovative approach to reinterpreting masterpieces, deepens into the aesthetic, symbolic, and historical significance of institutional walls, transforming them into artistic subjects. The title of the show is inspired by Rembrandt's famous painting, “The Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Nicolaes Tulp.” Acosta’s “stolen” piece, “The Anatomy Lesson,” is a focal point around which other ideas revolve. Rembrandt's work depicts the autopsy of the criminal Aris Kindt, also known as Adriaan Adriaanszoon, who was sentenced to death for armed robbery. Acosta brings to us a metaphorical autopsy—a kind of artistic medical examination—where he critically reflects on his own process as an artist, and the exhibition functions as a self-portrait. He challenges viewers to dissect the anatomy of art itself—its creation, value, and the structures that sustain it. The piece “The Anatomy Lesson,” contrasts the gestural energy and the raw materials that Acosta introduces in a totally new body of work. The artist goes beyond the surface, exposing the inner components of the gallery walls—wooden beams and plaster—which he reorganizes into new artistic compositions with the aid of large layers of wall paint. These elements take on new meanings as he deconstructs and reconstructs them, raising important questions about the relationship between creation and destruction, original and reinterpretation, and past and present. From the meticulous and detailed method to the rough decomposition of the gallery elements, he highlights the fragility and resilience of art and identity, inviting viewers to reconsider how we interact with the spaces and materials that shape our history. The Anatomy Lesson  will be open until December 14, at our Miami Design District space located at 21 NE 39th St. We encourage all visitors to engage with the rich conceptual and material dialogues presented in the show. About the Artist Pavel Acosta Proenza, born in Camagüey, Cuba, 1975, is a distinguished visual artist based in Miami, Florida. • From Medieval Manuscripts to Moonlit Vines: Greg Brewer’s Winemaking Odyssey

Greg Brewer was working on his master’s degree in medieval French literature at UC Santa Barbara when the wine bug bit him. What started out as a side job as an estate host at Santa Barbara Winery would catapult a more than 30-year winemaking career. Photo by Jeremy Ball In 1996, while working as the winemaker at Melville Winery, Greg created his eponymous label, Brewer-Clifton, with original partner Steve Clifton. Instead of translating medieval French texts, Greg found himself interpreting the dialects of different vineyards in the Sta. Rita Hills—an appellation he helped to map, define, and establish in 2001. Greg has since created the label, Diatom, a starkly raised Chardonnay; Ex Post Facto, a cool-climate Syrah; and, most recently, PERILUNE, an artistic collaboration involving a Pinot Noir and Chardonnay that represent a dialectical shift from Brewer-Clifton. Among the countless high scores awarded to his wines, Greg was named Winemaker of the Year in 2020 by Wine Enthusiast Magazine. He is also one of a select few winemakers worldwide chosen to speak this October as a “Wine Star” at Wine Spectator’s New York Wine Experience—the most prestigious consumer wine tasting event in the United States. For Greg and his small team, when it comes to winemaking, place is paramount. “We don’t see ourselves as making anything,” he explains. “We’re deliberate in the location of our vineyards…but at the winery it’s about removal of self, maintaining a quiet voice. Everything is raised in neutrality. Our barrels are 15-20 years old. Everything is raised the same each year, so there is no prejudice from vineyard to vineyard, or block to block.” A corollary to this extremely disciplined winemaking approach is an utmost respect for nature. This means surrendering to the beauty of nature’s imperfections—an ethos grounded in the Japanese concept of wabi sabi. “That is ultimately the intrigue in wines,” Greg explains, “The intrigue in nature is that level of something which is a little askew, a little off kilter, a little out of tune, deliberately so. And that’s actually the perfection. That’s the beauty.” Although Brewer-Clifton is his life’s work, Greg is quick to clarify that it never has been, nor will it ever be, about him. Rather, it is about illuminating the irreplicable geographic, geologic and climatic uniqueness of the Sta. Rita Hills through its wines. Situated a mere 18 miles from the Pacific Ocean, the vineyards benefit from a unique transversal mountain range that runs east to west, allowing cold ocean air to funnel into the vineyards. The marine layer cools the vines, extending the growing season and promoting maximum flavor development. The ocean’s influence extends to the soils, seen in one of the rare deposits of diatomaceous earth, or fossilized plankton, in the United States. The resulting Pinot Noir and Chardonnay embrace the power, pedigree, and richness of the Sta. Rita Hills that have become the trademark style of Brewer–Clifton. PERILUNE This year, Greg released his newest label PERILUNE. The brand and the vineyard share the name, which means a spot in orbit closest to the moon. Greg chose the name because the stark, empty, and contemplative landscape of the Sta. Rita Hills reminds him of the moon. Working closely with Greg, Senior Designer Tami Lovett-Brumfield explored concepts that would convey PERILUNE’s lunar-like topography and space-like feel of the concrete eggs used to make the wine. A designer and illustrator by trade, Tami handcrafted textures with sumi and Indian inks, black gouache, and acrylic paints, applying the media with traditional sumi brushes, sticks, natural sponges, and handmade circular stamps. The final art is a digitized version of the tactile media, exploring the interplay of dark and light or yin and yang. It conveys stillness and calm with smooth black areas balancing warm gold textural spheres meant to evoke the sun and the moon. In bringing PERILUNE to life, Greg and his team deliberately chose a singular concrete egg because it is a neutral vessel that offers a different, yet clean expression of the grape and its terroir. The egg’s symbolic representation of birth was also important. PERILUNE Chardonnay is harvested early and malolactic fermentation is inhibited to capture a higher octave and less fruit-forward voice of place. The wine has a subtle quietness about itself and a feeling of serenity. PERILUNE Pinot Noir is fully destemmed prior to fermentation, after which the wine is pressed into the egg for it to evolve within, yielding an expression that is a bit racier with a bigger personality. Only 75 cases each of PERILUNE Pinot Noir and Chardonnay were produced for the inaugural 2022 vintage. • Italian Yacht Icon Baglietto Sets Up Exclusive Lounge for FLIBS Attendees

Baglietto , a longstanding name in luxury yacht building, is bringing a fresh approach to the 2024 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (FLIBS), opting for a unique venue that promises a quieter, more exclusive experience for guests. Rather than taking the usual exhibition route, the Italian shipbuilder will host clients and partners at the High Tides Lounge located at the Bahia Mar Hotel pool. The location offers a relaxed, private setting, allowing Baglietto representatives to connect with attendees outside the intense atmosphere of the show floor. Baglietto T52 Akula ©StudioILLUME This shift in approach follows the recent appointment of Tommaso Bilotta, who joined the Baglietto team in June to oversee U.S. operations, reinforcing the company’s interest in growing its American presence. Running from October 31 to November 2, the lounge setup aims to provide an alternative space for brokers, clients, and industry friends to engage with Baglietto’s team and offerings without the distractions of the larger event. Fabio Ermetto, Baglietto’s Sales Director, explained that the choice reflects a desire to create “a pleasant atmosphere” where visitors can escape from the show’s intensity while staying close to the action. Baglietto Celebrates 170 Years of Italian Yachting Excellence Italian superyacht builder Baglietto marked its 170th anniversary with a two-day celebration a few weeks ago, attended by approximately 250 guests, including esteemed clients, press, and national and local authorities. Hosted by the Gavio Group and Baglietto's management, the event highlighted the shipyard's rich history and future vision. Baglietto's 170th anniversary event Italian actor Lorena Bianchetti emceed the event, paying tribute to Baglietto’s long standing influence in the yachting world. A special highlight was the presentation of Baglietto: The Art of Yachting Since 1854 , a book by Antonio Macaluso, set for release on October 29, 2024. The celebration also introduced a new design concept, a continuation of Baglietto's over 30-year collaboration with designer Francesco Paszkowski. Vittorio Emanuele III, Courtesy Archivio Baglietto Baglietto’s Yacht Building Facilities and Expansion Based in La Spezia, Italy, Baglietto specializes in building high-speed gliding yachts in aluminum, spanning from 38 to 50 meters, as well as larger displacement yachts up to 70 meters in steel and aluminum. The shipyard has expanded substantially in recent years, with facilities that include two main sites in La Spezia and Carrara. The La Spezia headquarters covers 35,000 square meters, housing three newly built warehouses for vessels up to 65 meters and docks for yachts up to 70 meters. Meanwhile, the Carrara site supports both civilian and military projects, with one 5,000-square-meter area dedicated to building military vessels under the Baglietto Navy brand and another with four production halls designated for yachts up to 50 meters. Alongside its yacht portfolio, Baglietto has also launched Bertram’s Italian line, which includes models between 35 and 39 feet, further diversifying its offerings. This presence at FLIBS, through an exclusive lounge setup, aligns with Baglietto’s ambitions to solidify its brand presence in the U.S. market and foster closer connections with potential clients in a more personalized setting. With this choice of a secluded lounge away from the main exhibition floor, Baglietto is hoping to leave a memorable mark at FLIBS while carving out a distinctive niche for personal interaction at the event.
