- How Dating Apps Alter The Way People Interact With Others in Real Life
Dating apps have entirely altered how we flirt, date, and have relationships in this modern world. These apps have been a great benefit to people as they make it easy to meet mates. What’s more, it is possible to find a soulmate, even if he or she is hundreds of miles away. What a journey for those striving for love! Image by pathdoc / Adobestock Such applications also enable scenarios where it is easy for people to interact. This article describes how they have altered how people mingle, including how they break the ice and communicate their emotions, and social expectations. Understanding the Transition From Organic to Digital Interactions Before these creations were widely used, meeting a potential partner was often a casual event that happened through friends, parties, or public places. Such natural interactions included direct, face-to-face interaction between the participants and had an element of spontaneity. However, switching to on-screen contacts could mean less in-person socializing and the loss of traditional social skills. Individuals might depend on screen-based communication, reducing their ability to engage bravely in person. People might feel able to do things or express thoughts that they wouldn’t otherwise have done in real life because there is an element of feeling protected when they use these applications, and they feel anonymous. This can lead to a breakdown in symmetry: the two worlds might feel quite separate, and switching from on to offline might be challenging. General Impact on Forms of Communication These innovations have altered how individuals interact with each other and with potential mates compared with regular, face-to-face conversations. Text-based communication on these sites tends to be frequent, informal, short, and emoji-intensive. We see this phenomenon even more when people on these sites opt for text communication rather than speaking to someone in person. In fact, this is also true in the real world, as there are times when a text option is more than adequate, yet people revert to texting when a phone call or an in-person chat would be better. The rapid-fire nature of back-and-forth messaging using apps like Tinder means that interpersonal discussions will likely be less complex and superficial. As a result, people may be less able to engage in probing and nuanced real-life talks. Image by Prostock-studio / Adobestock What Are the Emotional Bonds and Anticipations Brewed? Nowadays, it is not that hard to find like-minded people. Even live casino games offered by platforms like Verde Casino can help you get in touch with complete strangers who like gambling and playing online casino games ju st the way you do! The users of such applications face more potential matches than they can screen and select for, leading to shifting relationship expectations and emotional commitments. Here are some of the major aspects affected: Superficial Judgments: Since many of these sites are swipe-based, the decision may be made based on a picture or a short bio rather than more fully fleshed-out information. As a result, individuals may land into superficial relationships where looks may be valued over underlying compatibility. Such thinking may lead to more emphasis on outward presentation and a first impression in any given social situation, potentially masking overlapping and subtler elements. Emotional Separation: The ease of moving on to the next game can cultivate emotional disengagement. Moving on to the next game is always possible, and this could lead users to become less engaged with each one — which could make building enduring emotional relationships even harder, where persistence and commitment are critical. Increased Pressure for Instant Chemistry: Due to the fact that users are making gut-reaction choices about whether to pursue a relationship, there can be an expectation of ‘ chemistry at first sight .’ In the real world, an absence of instant chemistry could leave you dissatisfied or impatient or even lead you to abandon a relationship before it has had a chance to develop. What Are the Benefits of Using Dating Apps? But even if these applications do introduce new predicaments into otherwise in-person relationships, they also come with reassuring advantages : Greater Possibilities for Interaction: They will make it easier for individuals to meet people they might reject based on initial impressions, yielding a far greater dating pool and, consequently, far more diverse relationships. The romantic world might become more nuanced, and hence, the world, in general, could be better understood through many other cultures, ways of life, and visions. Possession and Authority: The daters using the apps have more control over their dating lives, filtering matches, building preferences, and choosing when and how to make contact. People who feel more in control of their love decisions can speak more confidently in real life, without playing around. Shattering Obstacles: They effortlessly connect people with different backgrounds, orientations, and interests. Therefore, social barriers have become more accessible to tear down, and more acceptance and unrestricted relationships might lead to improved interpersonal relationships. Image by ChayTee / Adobestock Beyond the Screen: The Future of Human Connection in a Digital Age These applications have fundamentally changed how people interact, providing opportunities and creating obstacles. They offer more opportunities for connection, empowerment, and reshaping society's conventions. Still, they can also lead to dependence on digital interaction, snap judgments, and emotional detachment. Users of dating apps should be mindful of what they do in real life and balance their interactions with people on or off dating sites! By ML Staff. Images courtesy of Adobestock
- A Collector’s Guide to Tiffany Windows
What inspired Louis Comfort Tiffany’s glasswork? ‘Beauty is what nature has lavished upon us as a supreme gift,’ according to Louis Comfort Tiffany (1848-1933). The American artist and designer drew from the sinuous forms of flowers and vines to create resplendent stained-glass works, including his renowned windows. The son of the jeweller Charles Lewis Tiffany (founder of Tiffany & Company), Louis Comfort Tiffany initially trained as a painter. In addition to images from nature, both painting and jewellery design were deeply inspirational to the artist’s work in glass. Tiffany Studios, Landscape Window with Lotus, c. 1917. Leaded and plated glass, 52⅞ in x 28¾ in (134.5 x 73 cm). Estimate: $600,000-800,000. Offered in Tiffany on 11 December 2024 at Christie’s in New York Tiffany was inspired by the precious and semi-precious stones used in his father’s jewellery works, from diamonds to agate. Tiffany Studios artisans chose from glass spanning thousands of colours and textures to create windows that reflected the beauty of the natural world, in all its jewel-like complexity. In this, Tiffany aimed to replicate the technique of painting in the medium of glass, combining daubs of colour to form glittering scenes. What are the main types of Tiffany glass? One of the defining qualities of Tiffany glass is the incredible variety of colours and patterns of glass that the studio experimented with. Inspired by medieval stained glass works as well as contemporary glassmaking he observed in Europe, Tiffany sought to expand on these techniques at his studio in the United States, which became renowned not only for its designs but for the unique and innovative glass they produced — Tiffany’s patented Favrile glass. Detail of ripple glass in Tiffany Studios, Landscape Window with Lotus, c. 1917. Leaded and plated glass, 52⅞ in x 28¾ in (134.5 x 73 cm). Estimate: $600,000-800,000. Offered in Tiffany on 11 December 2024 at Christie’s in New York Detail of confetti glass in Tiffany Studios, Landscape Window with Lotus, c. 1917. Leaded and plated glass, 52⅞ in x 28¾ in (134.5 x 73 cm). Estimate: $600,000-800,000. Offered in Tiffany on 11 December 2024 at Christie’s in New York ‘Favrile glass is distinguished by brilliant or deeply toned colours, usually iridescent like the wings of certain American butterflies, the necks of pigeons and peacocks, the wing covers of various beetles,’ said Louis Comfort Tiffany of the glass he developed with his studio. The main types of Favrile glass include drapery glass, confetti glass, striated glass and mottled glass. Drapery glass, folded with deep grooves, was often used in large-scale windows for its robust visual and textural impact. This high-relief type gives bold dimensionality to a work. Tiffany Studios, Landscape Window with Magnolias, Hydrangeas and Azaleas, c. 1915 . Leaded and plated Favrile glass, 27 x 48 in (68.5 x 121.9 cm). Sold for $1,470,000 on 26 May 2021 at Christie’s in New York Confetti glass contains shards that are pressed in between layers of molten glass, resulting in a cacophony of colour reminiscent of pointillism. This type was often used to capture the play of light and motion in a scene, such as the fluttering of leaves. Artisans created striated glass by mixing two or more colours of molten glass together, creating long, thin strands of contrasting hues. In mottled glass, makers added fluorine to the glass, causing the material to crystallise, achieving the perfect dimpled texture for sun-dappled flowers. Left: Tiffany Studios, ‘Peacock’ Window, 1910-1915. Leaded and plated glass, 31 x 22⅞ in (78.7 x 58.1 cm). Sold for $352,000 on 10 June 2022 at Christie’s in New York. Right: Tiffany Studios, A ‘Snowball and Wisteria’ Window, 1902. Leaded and plated glass with painted wood frame, 50¼ x 34⅝ in (127.7 x 88 cm). Sold for $499,500 on 12 December 2016 at Christie’s in New York Where were Tiffany windows originally installed? While best known for his leaded-glass windows, chandeliers and lamps, Tiffany also produced furniture, mosaics, ceramics, enamels and bronze and brass works. Tiffany Studios, active from 1902 to 1932, focussed on the production of glass and bronze work. The work of Tiffany Studios was highly sought after by major institutions and members of the America’s most prominent families, and custom Tiffany windows can be found in many of the most important churches and private residences of the Gilded Age. For example, the ‘Cypress and Azalea’ Landscape Window , sold at Christie’s in 2023 as part of The Ann and Gordon Getty Collection: Temple of Wings , was originally commissioned for ‘Carmore’, the Residence of Charles E. Rushmore in Woodbury Falls, New York, circa 1908. Tiffany’s personal estate, the famed Laurelton Hall in Oyster Bay, New York, included the four panels of his impressive ‘Four Seasons’ window, which debuted at the 1900 Exposition Universelle in Paris. Tiffany Studios, ‘Landscape with Magnolias and Irises’ Window, c. 1910 . Leaded and plated glass, 49¾ x 27 in (126.4 cm x 68.6 cm). Sold for $705,600 on 8 December 2023 at Christie’s in New York Today collectors and enthusiasts pay close attention to a window’s provenance, and works commanding the highest prices often come from the lavishly designed homes of influential captains of industry from the turn of the century. The market also appreciates works that have not been seen on the market for a long time. What are the most popular subjects of Tiffany windows? The subjects depicted in Tiffany windows were largely determined by their setting. Tiffany Studios artists were well versed in religious iconography and biblical scenes created for church commissions, while for domestic clients they frequently designed alluring landscapes and florals. Tiffany Studios, A ‘Peony’ Leaded Glass Window from the Darius Goff House, Pawtucket, RI, 1893 . Leaded glass in painted wood frame, 31 x 48½ in (78.7 x 123.2 cm). Sold for $962,500 on 15 December 2010 at Christie’s in New York Tiffany himself was a talented amateur horticulturist and landscape architect. His Oyster Bay estate was largely covered in flower varietals from all over the world, including native clematis and black-eyed Susans and his favourite wisteria, originally brought over from Asia. In addition to flora like lilies, azaleas and magnolias, Tiffany counted fauna like peacocks and dragonflies amongst his favoured motifs. Sadly Laurelton Hall fell into disrepair following Tiffany's death in 1933, and its contents were sold by the Foundation in 1949. A devastating fire later destroyed the house in 1957. Most of the house’s windows and other surviving architectural elements are now part of the Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art in Winter Park, Florida, while the estate’s glass, limestone and ceramic columnar screen is now housed in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. What kinds of interiors do Tiffany windows complement? A Tiffany window can enhance nearly any style of interior, meshing well with antique, modern and contemporary works, much in the way that a painting would. Contemporary collectors have incorporated Tiffany windows into their spaces in a variety of creative ways. Tiffany Studios, ‘Cypress and Azalea’ Landscape Window for Carmore, the Residence of Charles E. Rushmore, Woodbury Falls, New York, 1908. Leaded and plated glass, 77½ x 77 in (196.8 x 195.6 cm). Sold for $907,000 on 14 June 2023 at Christie’s in New York For example, Ann Getty employed a custom light box to display the arched cypress and azalea landscape window originally created in 1908 for the residence of Charles E. Rushmore. Tiffany windows and lamps were a touchstone of Mrs. Getty’s richly layered interiors, in which Art Nouveau and Arts and Crafts works featured prominently and blended seamlessly with art and objects from throughout history. At once architectural elements, works of art and brilliant apertures for natural light, Tiffany windows are highly versatile, offering collectors myriad ways to bring the maker’s trademark iridescence into their spaces. - Keiichi Tanaami: Memory Collage
The Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami, presents “Keiichi Tanaami: Memory Collage,” the artist’s first US solo museum exhibition. Keiichi Tanaami (1936-2024, Tokyo) has been a pioneering figure in Japanese and global Pop art for seven decades, creating magnificently immersive works across media in order to consider American and Japanese culture in the post-war period. Tanaami anticipated the crossover of popular culture and fine art, and through his connections to design has taken a radical and critical approach to how images of desire and violence transform society. Works included in this exhibition, produced between 1965 and 2024, track the artist’s use of collage to express the complex media landscape of our time. Tanaami’s life and work are deeply informed by his upbringing in Japan, the trauma of the Second World War, and the country’s postwar reconstitution. Although the war had forced Tanaami and his mother to flee to the countryside in 1943, the massive United States air raids on Tokyo at the end of the conflict, as well as his experience in air raid shelters, had immense impact on the then-nine-year-old boy and continue to haunt his imagination. Tanaami’s hallucinatory works brim with American airplanes, search lights, monsters real and imagined, and fleeing masses. Sexual images permeate his works across decades, as do synthetic colors; Tanaami records popular culture commercializing desire in order to suppress the devastation of war. Tanaami graduated from the Musashino Art University, Kodaira, Japan, with a degree in graphic design in 1960. He forged a successful career in design and advertising, working as the first art director of Japanese Playboy and creating record covers for Jefferson Airplane and the Monkees, which contributed to the introduction of psychedelic culture in Japan. During the 1960s, Taanami’s artistic practice frequently took the form of exuberant collages overflowing with clippings from international magazines. These dense collages are fascinating indexes of postwar visual culture, drawing from Western and Japanese news sources, commercial forms, and chapbooks. Tanaami would also elaborate on these fantastic sets of images through engagingly musical, surreal, and psychedelic animations that today are classics of avant-garde film. Combining disparate media, Tanaami creates worlds that explore how war distorts perception through fragmentation, nightmares, and hallucinatory visions. During the 1970s, Tanaami’s iconic paintings combine idyllic landscapes with advertising, erotic imagery and anti-war slogans. Over subsequent decades, Tanaami would continually expand these worlds, quoting manga, theater and increasingly art history, from sources as varied as the sixteenth-century French School of Fontainebleau and Japanese woodblock (ukiyo-e). In recent years the artist has explored the role of the artist in visual culture through his Pleasure of Picasso (2020–) series, which make playful and technical use of appropriation and repetition while considering the flattening of social and commercial art and history today. Additionally, the exhibition concisely surveys Tanaami’s recent work, a period of great productivity and experimentation for the artist. In epically large-scale painting and complex moving image, the artist has deployed technology to scale his kaleidoscopic visions. Through these radically produced, digitally printed and visually saturated paintings, Tanaami reflects on a contemporary regime of pervasive images, and the ever-present specter of history. - Wedding Transportation in Miami: Planning Tips, Costs, and Ideas
Miami is a city of glamour and excitement, making it a stunning backdrop for weddings. But with its vibrant streets and bustling traffic, figuring out wedding transportation can be a bit tricky. Choosing the right transportation not only elevates the style of your big day but also ensures smooth logistics, keeping stress at bay. In this guide, we dive into essential tips and ideas for organizing your wedding rides, helping you make informed decisions without the hassle. Image by inspiring team / Adobestock From sleek limousines to charming vintage cars, there's a ride for every couple's taste and budget in Miami. We all want the best for our wedding without going overboard, right? Knowing the costs involved from the start can prevent unwelcome surprises later. This knowledge arms you with the power to negotiate smartly with vendors and stay within your budget. Today, wedding planning is all about the details, and transportation is a big piece of that puzzle. Whether you're transporting the bridal party or shuttling guests between venues, ensuring everyone arrives on time is crucial. We've gathered all the practical tips to help you navigate this part of your wedding effortlessly. So let's gear up and make your Miami wedding unforgettable! Understanding Wedding Transportation Options When planning wedding transportation in Miami, it’s essential to consider the needs of the couple and guests, the types of vehicles available, and options for guest transportation. This ensures everyone is accommodated and the day goes smoothly. Assessing Transportation Needs First, we need to look at what’s required for the big day. Assessing transportation needs involves understanding who needs a ride and when. Some weddings might only require a limousine for the couple, while others might need a full fleet, including shuttles and party buses, to ferry guests between multiple locations. For example, if the ceremony and reception are at different places, arranging transportation for guests is vital. It helps reduce parking headaches and keeps timelines on track. Transportation also depends on timing. Think about the schedule and locations where vehicles are needed. It can be helpful to consult with a transportation company that offers comprehensive wedding transportation services to plan efficiently. Image by Nataliya Schmidt / Adobestock Types of Vehicles Choosing the right vehicles can set the tone for your wedding. Classic cars add a touch of elegance, perfect for vintage-themed weddings. Limousines offer luxury and comfort, ideal for making a grand entrance or getaway. For larger groups, party buses or SUVs provide space and fun features. Shuttle services are practical for guest transportation, ensuring everyone arrives on time. Trolleys give a unique, charming option for transporting guests with character. Discuss with the transportation company about what they offer and what suits your wedding style. You'll want a balance between aesthetics, size, and budget to make your event as seamless as possible. Guest Transportation Considerations Wedding guest transportation is a crucial part of the planning. It shows care for guests’ comfort and convenience. Arranging shuttles from hotels to the venue avoids parking hassles and ensures everyone arrives together. We should also consider transportation etiquette . Provide guests with clear information regarding pickup times and locations. They should feel well-informed and stress-free about the day’s logistics. Think about the diverse needs of guests, such as older adults or children, who might require specific accommodations. Keep all these factors in mind to ensure smooth transitions throughout the day while keeping the celebration enjoyable for everyone involved. Budgeting for Wedding Transportation When we talk about wedding transportation, it’s crucial to know how much it can cost and where to allocate funds. Miami offers various choices like limos and party buses, each with different price tags. Understanding these costs helps us allocate our budget smartly. Average Cost Analysis Let's dive into the average costs of wedding transportation in Miami. Limousine rentals can range from $75 to $200 per hour, depending on the vehicle type and rental company. If you choose party buses , expect to pay between $100 and $300 per hour. Meanwhile, sedans or smaller vehicles might cost less but may require more trips if you have a large group. It’s important to research these prices well in advance. Prices can change based on the season or demand, so booking early is a smart move. Contact several rental companies to compare prices and see what fits our needs best. Creating a spreadsheet with these estimates can help us visualize and manage our budget effectively. Allocating Funds Within Your Wedding Budget Allocating funds for transportation within our wedding budget takes careful planning. Start by determining what percentage of the total budget we're willing to dedicate to transportation costs. Typically, wedding transportation cost might take up around 2-5% of the overall wedding budget. Let’s prioritize our transportation needs: Do we need several cars or just one limo for the bridal party? Consider a list of essentials versus niceties. Reducing multiple trips if possible can also cut costs. Negotiating with rental companies for package deals or bulk discounts might also leave us some room in the budget for other wedding expenses. By being strategic with our planning, we ensure everyone arrives on time and in style without overspending. Image by Inga / Adobestock Booking and Coordinating Transportation Planning transportation for a wedding in Miami requires careful consideration. Selecting the right company, coordinating schedules, and maintaining proper etiquette ensure everything runs smoothly on the big day. Selecting a Reliable Transportation Company When choosing a transportation company for a wedding, it's crucial to find one that's reliable and professional. Start by checking reviews and asking for recommendations. This helps ensure we select a company with a strong reputation. For instance, you can look for services like Busrental.net , known for offering well-maintained Charter Buses and experienced drivers. Their wedding-specific services ensure a stress-free experience, with vehicles suited for both small and large groups. Make sure the rental company provides well-maintained vehicles. The last thing we want is a breakdown on the wedding day. Always confirm that the company is licensed and insured to avoid any issues later on. Scheduling and Timing Timing is everything when it comes to wedding transportation. We should start by establishing a detailed schedule that outlines when and where transportation is needed. This includes pickups and drop-offs for the wedding party, guests, and family members. Book transportation well in advance to secure the desired vehicles. Many recommend booking at least three to six months before the wedding. This helps avoid last-minute stress. We should also consider Miami’s traffic patterns when creating the schedule. Build in extra time to account for potential delays, especially if traveling during rush hours. Communicate the schedule to everyone involved to ensure smooth execution. Image by OceanProd / Adobestock Etiquette and Logistics Understanding transportation etiquette is key to maintaining a smooth flow on the wedding day. We should be clear with our rental company about our expectations and confirm all details in writing. Arrange for transportation services that match the style and theme of our wedding. For example, a sleek limo service adds elegance, while a wedding shuttle can be convenient for large parties. It's always important to have a backup plan. Unforeseen circumstances can arise, so having an alternative option ensures guests aren’t left stranded. We recommend sharing logistics information with all guests, like pickup spots and times. This can be easily done via a wedding website or invitation insert. Conclusion Wedding transportation in Miami is a key detail that can ensure your big day goes off without a hitch. By planning thoughtfully and considering the needs of both you and your guests, you can create a seamless experience that keeps the focus on the celebration. From elegant limos to practical shuttles, the right choice of vehicles adds style and convenience to your unforgettable day. By ML Staff. Images courtesy of Adobestock

- Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami Unveils New Exhibitions During Miami Art Week 2024
Mark your calendar for ICA Miami’s Opening Night presented by W Magazine during Miami Art Week 2024! Celebrating five special exhibitions: Lucy Bull, “The Garden of Forking Paths” and Marguerite Humeau “ \*sk\*/ey-” on our third floor; Keiichi Tanaami, “Memory Collage ” on our second; “Ding Shilun: Janus” and “ Crossroads: Rubem Valentim’s 1960s ” on the Ground Floor. Lucy Bull, Most Attractive, 2019. Oil on linen, 50 x 60 ⅛ x 1 ½ inches (127 x 152.7 x 3.8 cm) Photo: Copyright The Artist. Courtesy of the Artist. Lucy Bull ’s first U.S. museum exhibition, “The Garden of Forking Paths” uses a dynamic application of paint to choreograph energetic gestures into eruptive fields of pictorial activity. Bull’s dynamic practice explores the formal and experiential concerns of the medium with exuberant colors and elusive forms, reference to atmosphere, density and transparency. In parallel to the exhibition, Bull created the next stairwell commission at ICA Miami, which will be on view through September 2025. Preparatory sketch for \*sk\*/ey-, © Marguerite Humeau ICA Miami presents “\*sk\*/ey-,” a major solo exhibition for artist Marguerite Humeau comprising newly commissioned sculptures and video. The immersive installation marks Humeau’s first large-scale institutional presentation in the U.S. and sees the artist experiment with form through the abstract narratives of alternative worlds. Informed by the menace of climate change, these new sculptures pollinate, blossom, and armor, proposing a potentially inevitable mode of living, a post-human existence in which nomadic beings live in the air and are in perpetual motion. Ding Shilun, “Smile Reveal,” 2024. Oil on linen. 190 x 180 cm. 74 ¾ x 70 ⅞ in. Courtesy of the artist and Bernheim Gallery. Photo credit: Eva Herzog. “ Ding Shilun : Janus” debuts a group of newly commissioned paintings and a site-specific installation in the artist’s first solo US museum exhibition. Shilun’s ethereal and at times ominous works feature idiosyncratic mythologies inspired by his everyday life. Each painting acts as an individual vignette, depicting self-contained and often ambiguous scenes that utilize figuration to convey rousing emotion and simple anecdotes rather than elaborate narratives. Shilun’s paintings draw from a wide range of reference images, traditions, and techniques. Rubem Valentim, Pintura 2, 1964. Tempera on canvas, 70 x 50 cm. ICA Miami presents the first US museum exhibition of the late Afro-Brazilian painter Rubem Valentim . A singular voice in modernist painting and geometric abstraction, Valentim explored the medium’s formal concerns and social resonances across cultures and spiritual practices. This exhibition focuses on works Valentim produced in the 1960s and the transformation of his work and thinking during this time. Keiichi Tanaami, Untitled (Collagebook 7_60), circa 1971. Marker pen, ink, magazine, scrap collagen on drawing paper, 39 x 45 cm. Private Collection, UK. Courtesy of Karma International. ICA Miami, presents “ Keiichi Tanaami: Memory Collage ,” the artist’s first U.S. solo museum exhibition. The works included in “Keiichi Tanaami: Memory Collage,” from 1965 to the present, track the artist’s use of collage to express the complex media landscape of our time.
