The 2024 MLB World Series is set to be an exciting showdown between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the New York Yankees, two powerhouse teams with rich histories in baseball. Though they fell short of a playoff spot, the Marlins showed significant growth and resilience, laying a strong foundation for future seasons.  Below, we'll focus on the highlights of the World Series, showcasing key moments and unforgettable plays of the Miami Marlins. Marlins Vs. Braves (August 3) Even though the Marlins don’t have championship odds like the Astros Championship Odds  and other teams, they still showed the world they have what it takes to get an exciting win. For instance on the August 3 match against the Braves, the Marlins didn’t back down and finished the game victorious.  The Miami Marlins halted the Atlanta Braves' four-game winning streak with a 4-3 victory, highlighted by Jesús Sánchez's tiebreaking double in the seventh inning. Sánchez stood out, going 3 for 5 with two doubles, two RBIs, and a steal.  Jake Burger contributed a home run and two RBIs, while Nick Fortes scored two runs. The Marlins' bullpen was exceptional, with Declan Cronin winning with two scoreless innings and Calvin Faucher securing his first save of the season after a rough outing the previous night. The Braves, who had been dominant against the Marlins at Truist Park, were led by Matt Olson’s RBI and Marcell Ozuna’s 32nd home run. Braves starter Grant Holmes lasted 4 2/3 innings, allowing three runs, while the Marlins’ relievers kept Atlanta scoreless over the final 6 1/3 innings. Sánchez’s decisive double in the seventh scored Fortes, who had singled earlier, giving the Marlins the lead. Despite Jake Burger hitting into a double play earlier in the inning, Sánchez’s timely hit ensured the Marlins took the lead. The Marlins’ bullpen, which had a tough outing in the previous game, bounced back with a dominant performance to close the win. Manager Skip Schumaker praised the bullpen's resilience and ability to bounce back after a tough loss the night before. Marlins Vs. Dodgers (September 17) The Miami Marlins secured an 11-9 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers, led by Jesús Sánchez’s stellar performance with two doubles and three RBIs. Despite Shohei Ohtani hitting his 48th home run, he struck out three times and remains two homers short of making MLB history with 50 home runs and 50 steals.  Jake Burger contributed with a two-run homer in the eighth, providing a crucial cushion for the Marlins. Max Muncy’s two-run double in the ninth brought the Dodgers within two, but Miami held on for the win.  Connor Norby also made a significant impact, becoming the first Marlin to score four runs in a single game this season. Kyle Stowers added an RBI triple and a run-scoring double, contributing to the Marlins’ 15-hit effort. Bobby Miller, the Dodgers' starter, struggled early, allowing four runs in the first two innings, while Marlins' starter Darren McCaughan surrendered five runs in 3 2/3 innings. Sánchez's go-ahead RBI double in the fourth, followed by Stowers' triple, gave Miami a lead they never relinquished. Despite Ohtani’s home run and the Dodgers’ resilience, Marlins manager Skip Schumaker praised his team's execution and Sánchez’s ability to handle pressure. Michael Grove took the loss for the Dodgers, allowing the decisive run in the fourth inning.  The Dodgers remain the NL’s No. 2 seed, while Ohtani’s potential pitching role for the postseason is still under consideration. Marlins Vs. Blue Jays (September 28,29,30) The Marlins dominated the Blue Jays in a three-game series at the end of September 2024, securing their first series win against Toronto since 2009. In the second game, Dane Myers delivered a standout performance with a three-run homer and five RBIs, contributing to an 8-1 victory.  Jesús Sánchez also impressed, scoring three runs for the second consecutive game. Meanwhile, the Blue Jays’ struggles continued as Vladimir Guerrero Jr. remained one hit shy of 200 for the season, and rookie pitcher Yariel Rodríguez lost his fifth straight decision. In the series finale, Miami completed the sweep with a 3-1 victory, led by Jonah Bride’s two RBIs and Ryan Weathers’ strong pitching performance. The Blue Jays ended the season with a disappointing 74-88 record, while the Marlins finished with a less-than-stellar 62-100.  Despite these results, both teams showed promise, with young players like Myers and Bride making an impact. As both franchises look toward 2025, fans can expect continued development and hope for future success. After a challenging September stretch, this series highlighted the Marlins’ resilience and the Blue Jays’ need for improvement. College is so full of lectures, homework, and parties that there’s barely any time to take care of yourself. But even making simple lifestyle adjustments can make you feel great. Whether it’s for less stress, increased energy, or simply feeling a bit better, here are eight habits that students can implement to help them be healthier physically and mentally. Image by Valerii Apetroaiei / Adobestock 1. Sleep Well Let’s be honest: staying up all night cramming for tests or finishing papers is pretty much mandatory in college. However, sleep deprivation will cause you to become fatigued, irritable, and unable to concentrate. If you have so much homework that good sleep isn’t an option, you can hire the best essay authors  from TopEssayWriting (which are top-notch, according to Reddit users) to write some of your papers. This may help you get 7-10 hours of good sleep every night. To sleep better, turn down the lights an hour before bed, don’t drink caffeine late in the day, and avoid screens right before bed. 2. Drink Water It’s easy enough, but many students don’t drink enough water. Hydration causes headaches, exhaustion, and loss of focus, all not great conditions when you are attempting to make it to the top of your class. Don’t forget to always have a reusable water bottle and drink from it throughout the day. If you don’t like plain water, mix in lemon slices, mint, or berries for a fresh flavor. 3. Eat Well-Balanced Meals With the morning rush and a hectic schedule, students are prone to snacking on the go or not eating at all. But a proper diet can give you a lot of energy and motivation. Try to eat more whole foods such as fruits, vegetables, lean protein, and whole grains. Find quick meals that you can cook in a hurry. Avoid sugary beverages and snacks that can lead to crashes in your energy. Don’t skip meals even when you are busy. Drink water in between meals to control portion sizes. 4. Get Moving You don’t have to be a gym rat to benefit from exercise. Just a little more movement per day will make you less stressed, moody, and sleepy. You could take a stroll around campus, go for a run, or do yoga; pick whatever you love and make it a part of your schedule. Try to get at least 30 minutes of moderate activity most days of the week. 5. Practice Mindfulness and Meditation Life is tough, particularly when college pressures come. Having a mindfulness practice or meditation can help keep stress at bay. 5 to 10 minutes daily will go a long way. Take a moment in silence, sit comfortably, and focus on your breathing. If you are new to meditation, apps such as Calm or Headspace can guide you. 6. Get Off Your Phone Let’s face it: from studying, social media, and streaming TV, we’re constantly gazing at screens. There’s no avoiding screen time, but overuse causes eyestrain, disrupts sleep, and leads to procrastination. Limit unnecessary screen time, and try taking short breaks every 20 minutes to glance away from your screen to rest your eyes. 7. Build a Strong Support Network College life can be lonely sometimes, especially if you’re away from home. A supportive network of friends or family members can help keep you going through the ups and downs of college. Always try to reach out to your loved ones, whether it’s on regular calls, through study sessions, or over coffee. Don’t think you can’t get help when you need it. Set Reasonable Goals Achievable goals can help you stay focused. Academic, personal, or any other goals will seem more doable when they’re broken down into smaller steps. For instance, if you want to boost your grades, first work towards an extra 30 minutes of studying every day. Celebrate small successes in between to keep yourself on track. Make Small Changes for Big Results! Your health does not need to be something you change overnight. And when you walk through, be great. Don’t question why it opened.”  Kerry Washington , Entrepreneur in Entertainment Award honoree, on her advice to women in the industry shared, “Find your crew. As a producer, it gives me so much joy that so often our actors or other crew members will come to me and say ‘I’ve never been on a set like this before, it’s so inclusive, I feel seen, I feel represented, I don’t feel alone. 1. The preseason is officially over, Miami finishing the preliminary slate 4-1 after tonight’s 114-109 win in Memphis. Only Nikola Jovic played among what has so far been the established starters as most of the veterans stayed back in Miami while Jaime Jaquez Jr. also got the night off. Memphis wasn’t resting their guys in this one as Ja Morant and Desmond Bane playing both halves while rookie center Zach Edey – Thomas Bryant gave him quite a bit of trouble in the post despite giving up some size and weight – stepped in for Jaren Jackson Jr. It should be of no surprise to a single soul who has watched a HEAT game that Miami’s bench and developmental players gave Memphis’ regular a real game as they took an early lead behind threes and steals and only gave it up in the second quarter when Bane took control for a scoring sprint. And yet there they were in the third quarter, down only five even with Jovic and Haywood Highsmith on the bench while Morant and Bane continued to play. By the end of the third, when Memphis’ starters exited the game for good, Miami remained down just six. Then, when it was bench against bench, Memphis temporarily up double digits, it was time for another run this time with Pelle Larsson – not his best shooting night at 5-of-17 but doing all the same glue guy work he did during his starting stint – stirring the proverbial drink. As the Grizzlies’ young group struggled to put together coherent offense, Miami again ran up the steals total (16) on their way to victory. That’s at least 15 steals in all five preseason games for the HEAT as they led the league in opponent turnover rate. Just another example of how the HEAT play to their identity and within their system no matter who is on the floor. When they do that, good shooting and active defense will carry them for long stretches even without elite offensive creators available. A hammer screen setting up a corner three looks the same whether it’s Jovic and Herro or if it’s Warren Washington setting up Larsson. 2. Every time you watch Isaiah Stevens he’s making someone else look good, and there might not be anyone who has benefitted from his passing more than Kal’el Ware – such is relationship between center and point guard, one needing the other to get them the ball in their best spots. Within the first few minutes of Stevens’ first shift – off the bench in the first half, starting the second half – he had already fed Ware for two dunks, one a lob from a tough angle and another off an acrobatic up and under airborne dump off, with another lob to Keshad Johnson thrown on top. For as much as Spoelstra’s system gives the younger players a framework to work inside of, Stevens is the stabilizing force who does the creation required in that system. The other side of things is that Stevens hasn’t spent much time looking for his own offense throughout preseason, taking just four shots tonight in his 18 minutes that otherwise produced five assists. That can all come with time. It’s no easy thing learning where you can get your offense standing at six feet tall. The good news is that Stevens has a long history of good shooting, both off the catch and the dribble, so there’s more offense than we’ve seen. What’s important for today is that Stevens has given himself a shot in this league by being a guy who produces for those around him and that surely has not gone unnoticed by those playing with him. 3. A few notes on others who played in a game without many regular season storylines to track. Jovic only played 14 minutes but had a couple strong drives to the rim which showed better comfort and composure going downhill than earlier in his career. He’s been a good fit so far as a connector with the starters but there was a brief two-minute stretch tonight where he was Miami’s entire offense. Jovic appears to be in a nice spot this season, playing a crucial role when it comes to impacting wins which should also keep him on the floor enough to explore the upside of his offensive skills when the opportunities are there. Highsmith had nine of Miami’s first 17 points with three threes. Very little he does is going to jump off the box score – he has shown a bit more downhill verve as he continues to work on his push shots – but he’s done nothing this preseason but remind of his capabilities as a steady two-way guy. Good shooting night for Nassir Little (4-of-5 from three). We haven’t seen a ton of Little in preseason but the shot is the thing that lets his defense play. Josh Christopher scored like it was Summer League, putting up 17 on 11 shots. And rookie center Ware needed 17 shots to get to 16 points (seven rebounds, two blocks, two steals), struggling a bit with his jumper, but he again showed all the flashes you want to see from a center in his first couple weeks of professional action – a lot of easy athleticism shown on clean up duty in the paint but also glimpses of shot creation, turnaround jumpers in the post, that we’ll be keeping in mind for later. Inter Miami CF II's historic season came to an end at home, as the team fell to Columbus Crew 2 in the quarterfinals of the MLS NEXT Pro Playoffs. Despite the setback, the match featured goals from Cohen Yuval and substitute Zeltzer-Zubida, marking a memorable moment in the Club’s first-ever playoff appearance. Inter Miami CF II took to the field in a 4-4-2 formation with Owen Finnerty in goal; Tyler Hall, Ryan Sailor, Giovanni Ferraina, and captain Nykolas Sessock in defense; Alejandro Flores, Ricardo Montenegro, Jose Casas, and Cesar Abadia-Reda formed the midfield; while Ryan Carmichael and Cohen Yuval led the team’s offense. The first half of the game saw Inter Miami II battling through the rain against a Columbus Crew side that played a solid half to score two times in 30 minutes. Forward Cohen Yuval found the back of the net, for the seventh time this season, near the break to cut the Crew’s advantage in half. During added time of the first half, Columbus scored a header from an inswinging corner to give the visitors the 1-3 lead into the halftime. The second half started with the visitors further extending the advantage with their fourth of the night. In response, Higuaín moved the pieces by bringing in Zeltzer-Zubida, Saja, Ristano, Martinez, and Morales. These substitutions would bring freshness into the game and it reflected when Zeltzer-Zubida scored the second goal for the Herons. Columbus Crew ended the night on a strong note scoring two more goals throughout the final minutes of the half to seal the 2-6 result. Despite the loss, this result caps off a remarkable season for Inter Miami II, who qualified for the playoffs for the first time in their history.
