- Kirwin and Latreille Shine in South Florida
It was a windy south Florida weekend that included scattered rain storms throughout the final round at Redland Golf and Country Club. At the end of the weekend, Reilly Kirwin and Kaden Latreille would prove victorious. Boys (13-15) As the sun rose over round one at Redland Golf and Country, the strong winds of south Florida soon followed. Pair that with small greens and our players quickly learned what a test this golf course would be. Looking to get off to a hot start, Luke MacDonald birdied his opening hole, the par-5 10th. He would falter on the difficult par-3 16th with a double bogey. However, the Canada native would bounce back immediately with a birdie on 17 and make the turn at even par. MacDonald would card two more birdies and two bogeys on his closing nine to post an even par 72 and hold the clubhouse lead. Looking to put some pressure on MacDonald were two previous FJT Champions. Kaden Latreille and Ignacio Hurtado. Both players would roll the ball great on the greens to keep them in contention. With two birdies and only a few small hiccups, Latreille would post an opening round 73, 1-over par. Hurtado would roll in five birdies during his round, but would post a 1-over 73 to sit in a tie for second with Latreille. The final round would be full of birdies, lead changes, and even more great golf. MacDonald, Hurtado, and Latreille all started off their final rounds steady. However, Kaden Latreille would get the birdies rolling early and kept his foot on the gas. He would fire off four birdies on his opening nine to take the solo lead into the back nine. But Hurtado would counter with three birdies on holes on the back nine, adding pressure to Latreille. In the end Latreille would have a stellar back nine which consisted of three birdies of his own to post a 3-under 69 and claim a three shot victory over Hurtado. HIs 69 was the low round of the tournament. Girls (13-15) Merian (Darby) Yang was another player looking to get off to a hot start, which she did with a birdie on the first hole. Despite a double bogey on two, the 2027 grad remained cool on her opening nine, going out with a 2-over par 38. Yang would keep up her strong play on the back nine to fire an opening round 3-over 75. Not far behind were Qiaoyi Lyu and Xiyao Zhang. While the south Florida winds really started to pick up later in the round, it caused little stress to both these FJT veterans. Both girls were able to limit their mistakes and take advantage when they had the chance. They would each post a 6-over 78 to sit three off the lead. With rain forecasted for Sunday, it was still anybody's race. While the final group continued their consistent play on Sunday, Reilly Kirwin, who sat four off the lead after round one, began to make a charge. The 2028 graduate from Naples birdied two of her first five holes, putting her in a great spot to catch Yang on the back nine. And she did just that. She fired a stellar round of 1-over 73 to take the clubhouse lead and force Yang to birdie the 36th hole for a playoff at 8-over par. Yang would cash in that birdie. The sudden death playoff took them back to the par-5 ninth hole. Ultimately, after sticking a 120 yard wedge shot to 8 feet, Kirwin needed just two putts to claim her first ever FJT victory. - Miami's Gaming Culture: From South Beach to Online Slots
Miami. The name conjures images of sun-kissed skin, electric nightlife, and, of course, the lure of gaming. But the Miami gaming scene you see today isn’t some overnight sensation. It’s the product of decades of transformation — a fascinating evolution from old-school casino glamour to the digital buzz of online slots and esports. As digital entertainment continues to evolve, the lines between gaming, tech, and social experiences get blurrier by the day. For more info on how online platforms are reshaping interaction and pushing the boundaries of what gaming can be, check out this deeper dive into future-forward innovations. In Miami, these changes are especially visible, where a unique mix of culture, nightlife, and technology collide. The Golden Age of Gaming: Casinos, Clubs, and a Cuban Beat Picture Miami in the mid-20th century. Hialeah Park Casino wasn’t just a place to place a bet; it was a social epicenter. Think sharp suits, clinking cocktail glasses, and the undercurrent of excitement that only high-stakes gambling can bring. The vibrant Cuban and Caribbean communities infused Miami's gambling culture with their own energy. The rhythm of the rumba mingled with the shuffle of cards - a unique and unforgettable atmosphere. Of course, the legal side of things wasn't always so smooth. There were regulatory hurdles, shifting laws, and the constant threat of crackdowns. But the thrill of the game, the promise of fortune, kept the scene alive. The Seminole Surge: A New Era of Casino Gambling Then came the Seminole Tribe, arguably the pioneers of modern casino gambling in Florida. The Indian Gaming Regulatory Act of 1988 opened up new avenues, and suddenly, the landscape changed. The Seminole Hard Rock Casino emerged, its guitar-shaped hotel a beacon of a new era. It wasn't just about gambling anymore; it was about entertainment, tourism, and a serious economic boost for the region. Remember when that first Hard Rock opened? It was a huge deal. Everyone wanted to go. But this expansion wasn't without its critics. State authorities weren't always keen on the growth of tribal casinos, leading to ongoing debates and negotiations. Finding the right balance has always been a challenge. The Digital Revolution: When Online Gaming Hit Miami And then… the internet. Everything changed. Suddenly, online slots, digital poker rooms, and mobile gaming apps exploded in popularity. Who wouldn’t want the convenience of playing from their couch, in their pajamas? Online gaming offered a variety that traditional casinos simply couldn't match. But let's be real, there's a trade-off. While digital gaming offers unmatched convenience, it can’t replicate the social buzz and tangible excitement of a physical casino. You miss that feeling of holding the chips, the shared tension around the craps table. It's a different kind of experience. What's really interesting is how Miami is starting to embrace esports and competitive online gaming. The Miami Dolphins even have their own esports team! It’s a brave new world, indeed. Miami's Unique Blend: Where Entertainment Meets Online Gaming This is where things get really interesting. Miami's nightlife and luxury industries are starting to merge with the digital gaming world. Think VIP gaming lounges in upscale clubs, creating hybrid experiences that blend the physical and digital. I’m talking bottle service next to a bank of gaming PCs. You're seeing more and more partnerships between gaming platforms and Miami-based influencers, clubs, and brands. Plus, there are local gaming events, casino nights, and digital gaming conferences popping up all the time. The lines between Miami's established entertainment scene and the evolving world of online gaming are blurring. The Future is Now: What's Next for Miami Gaming? So, where is all of this heading? The future of gaming in Miami is looking bright, if not a little virtual. Think VR casinos, the rise of cryptocurrency gambling, and the potential of Web3. It's a whole new level of immersion. Of course, regulatory changes in Florida could throw a curveball, but Miami has always had a knack for reinvention. It's a city that thrives on pushing boundaries. Looking ahead, you can expect to see even more gaming interwoven with Miami’s tourism and nightlife. Imagine themed experiences, interactive events, and partnerships that make gaming a seamless part of the Miami experience. Think "Game of Thrones" themed slot tournaments at South Beach hotels. It’s inevitable. From Tourist Hotspot to Gaming Hub: How Miami Evolved Miami’s journey from a tourist hotspot to a global urban center is directly linked to the evolution of its gaming industry. Miami started as a leisure destination, offering resorts and recreational activities as a key part of its culture. If you look at old postcards from the 1950s, you’ll see what I mean. The city's architecture and planning reflect a shift from a tourism-based economy to a more diverse one. Miami’s gaming industry mirrors broader national trends. The 2015 Florida gambling impact study, for example, highlights the economic effects and the evolution of the gaming sector across Florida, including Miami. Gaming contributes significantly to job creation and revenue generation, supporting the local culture and infrastructure. According to the study, gaming accounts for billions in revenue for the state and tens of thousands of jobs. Technological advancements have transformed Miami’s gaming culture. The rise of esports, with teams like the Miami Dolphins venturing into competitive gaming, bridges traditional sports with digital entertainment. This allows them to engage both sports and gaming fans. Think of it as a 21st-century version of celebrity endorsements. The transition from physical casinos to online platforms has been transformative. Online slots and other digital games have become increasingly popular, offering global connectivity and diverse gaming experiences. People can now engage with gaming as a community-driven experience, instead of just a solitary one. Recent developments, such as the introduction of GAMERGY to Miami, highlight the city’s growing importance in the global gaming culture. GAMERGY, a major esports and gaming platform, emphasizes inclusivity and multiculturalism, aligning with Miami’s diverse cultural landscape. The broader gaming industry, including online slots and other digital games, has evolved significantly, driven by global trends and technological innovations. From arcades to online gaming, it has become a major form of entertainment and social interaction. The economic impact of the gaming industry on Miami is substantial. It contributes to job creation, revenue generation, and supports the local culture. Consider the amount of tax revenue generated by the Seminole Hard Rock alone. Events like GAMERGY and the Miami Dolphins’ esports initiatives blend traditional sports with modern digital entertainment, reflecting a dynamic cultural landscape. Advances in gaming hardware, platforms, and internet connectivity have expanded digital gaming and made it more accessible. This has enabled improvements in online gaming and esports. A City That Plays to Win From the glamorous casinos of the mid-20th century to the digital poker rooms of today, Miami’s gaming journey demonstrates the city’s ability to embrace change and innovation. Gaming continues to intertwine with Miami’s identity as a global entertainment hub, adding another layer to its vibrant culture. From South Beach to online slots, the evolution of gaming in Miami is a story of adaptation, innovation, and the enduring allure of chance. Miami's gaming scene is here to stay, and it's only going to get wilder from here on out. By ML Staff

Bar-Spur's Stephanie Colburn drives the ball towards the goal. “My horses felt great in the final. Steph and Mark worked on making key plays to get the ball away from our goal and down offensively. It was a great team victory.” – Bar-Spur’s Chad Bowman In the first chukker both teams were locked in a fierce battle, finishing in a 3-all stalemate. The tension carried into the second period, where Bar Spur held a slim 7-6 edge. Bar-Spur’s Bowman came out strong to open the second half, scoring back-to-back goals, followed by a booming two-pointer in the final moments of the chukker to extend the lead, 11-8. In the final minutes of the match, Bowman added three more goals, bringing his total to 14 on the day, securing Bar-Spur’s victory, 14-9. “It was great to win the [National Arena] Delegates Cup, said Osburn. “After being second three years in a row- winning sure feels good. I actually didn’t feel like I had a great game and never even scored a goal, but knowing my mallet was a little off, I buckled down and went to work clearing ground for Chad [Bowman] and Stephanie [Colburn].” Reflecting on the match, Bowman added, “Going into the final it was a rematch from our last game, which we lost by a goal and as a team didn’t play well. So, we were looking forward to a rematch. In the final we knew they had subs coming in- it was going to be a feeling out process. But we knew if we played our game we could dictate the play.” Bar-Spur's Chad Bowman. Playing a pivotal role for TAMU Men, Mark Coventry was named the Galvin Agency Most Valuable Player. Relecting on the experience, Coventry shared, “Being awarded MVP is a compliment and honor. I'm relieved to have helped contribute to the match and cannot thank Victor Aguilar and Zak Coleman enough for their generosity providing the pony power. The icing on the cake was playing alongside [TAMU Men’s] captain, Zak Coleman and my son, Mitch. I was a little skeptical to come back and play after a 25-year break from indoor, after all, nobody likes to be schooled by their children and the younger generation of polo, not to mention my complete lack of "indoor fitness.” Coventry continuted, “We hope to see more of Texas Arena [League] in the future, with more Coventry’s looking to cross over to the [United] States for their university education. Thank you for your warm and welcoming Texas hospitality. Everything IS bigger and better in Texas!” Galvin Agency Most Valuable Player Mark Coventry. “Being awarded MVP is a compliment and honor. Cavalor/Catena Sportsmanship Award recipient Stephanie Colburn. The Nutrena Best Playing Pony was awarded to Simba, played and owned by Chad Bowman. Sharing insights on the stallion, Bowman said, “Simba is going to be 10-years-old in June. He has a couple babies on the ground, the oldest of which is getting started now as an almost 3 year old. He is out of a mare of mine I bought when I turned pro out of college in 2010 from Crab Orchards’ farrier in Kentucky. His dad is an ex-race horse that Billy Mudra owns named Sculpted.” Bowman continued, “Simba has been a joy to have as my first homebred horse. My wife and I broke him together and he has been a saint since getting a saddle on his back. Everyone that rides him enjoys him. When I play him I have such confidence in him. We have a bond that I enjoy and he keeps surprising me with how he is still getting stronger and better everyday.” Nutrena Best Playing Pony Simba, played and owned by Chad Bowman. Showcasing the incredible talent and versatility of thoroughbreds in arena polo, Awesome Sauce, played by Shane Rice and owned by Hidden View Farm was named The Jockey Club Thoroughbred Incentive Program (TJCTIP) Best Playing Thoroughbred. The conclusion of the weekend’s competition marked the end of the 2025 Texas Arena League Classic Division. *Stephanie Colburn is Team USPA alumna. - How to Choose the Right Rehab Facility for Your Needs
The road to addiction recovery is winding and peppered with obstacles, which is why rehab can feel like a breath of fresh air. Rehab offers you a structured and supportive environment where the focus is on healing, developing coping strategies, and preparing for long-term recovery. However, you must find a facility that fits your needs and expectations. You need a safe, judgment-free space where you can address both the physical and emotional aspects of addiction. In this guide, we’ll discuss the factors to consider when selecting a rehab facility and help you narrow down your options. This will make it easier to decide, and you won’t have to invest too much time and energy in research. Determine Your Needs and Goals Everyone is different, and so is every addiction recovery journey. First, it’s important to identify the substance or behavior you need help with. Some people have an alcohol addiction, others have fallen down the rabbit hole of prescription drugs, while others try to overcome a nicotine addiction . Of course, the spectrum of addiction types and needs is larger than this, but the idea stands. You first need to identify the problem before you start searching for the right solution. Keep in mind that you don’t need a doctor’s or psychologist’s recommendation to go to rehab. However, it’s best that you see a doctor or addiction specialist. They can help assess your condition and recommend the most suitable treatment options (which may include rehab). Understand the Different Types of Rehab Programs Rehab programs come in various formats, each designed to meet different recovery needs. The two main categories are inpatient and outpatient programs. Inpatient programs provide 24/7 care in a structured, highly controlled environment. They cater to patients in need of intensive support or detoxification and block any outside triggers (you stay at the facility for the duration of the treatment). The focus is set entirely on recovery. Outpatient programs are more flexible and don’t require patients to stay overnight. You have access to various sessions during the day, such as therapy, counseling, or medical check-ins. Due to this flexibility, you can continue your daily routines and responsibilities. Many facilities also offer specialized services such as dual diagnosis treatment for co-occurring mental health issues, gender-specific programs, or holistic therapies that incorporate yoga and mindfulness. These programs tailor treatment to individual lifestyles and unique challenges. The severity of your addiction, your personal circumstances, and the support you can get at home vs at the facility are all factors to consider. Facility Amenities and Environment Rehab facilities pay close attention to the environment they create. Comfortable accommodations, nutritious dining options, dedicated therapy spaces, and beautiful landscapes have a significant impact on one’s well-being. Amenities like on-site gyms, outdoor gardens, and relaxation spaces foster a sense of calm and boost motivation. So, it makes more sense to choose an addiction treatment center in Bali than one in the middle of a busy city. If Bali is out of your reach, look for facilities that offer clean, well-maintained rooms (preferably private) and communal areas that encourage socialization and peer support. You want a place where the environment is nurturing and engaging. Cost and Insurance Coverage The cost of rehab also plays a huge role in the facility you choose. More luxurious establishments with high-end care and quality amenities are usually quite pricey. The duration of the treatment is also a factor, with inpatient programs being more expensive than outpatient ones. Most health insurance plans cover substance abuse treatment, but not all of them provide the same coverage. Also, check the terms and conditions of your provider. Some policies require a referral, formal diagnosis, or proof of medical necessity to cover rehab costs. Additionally, ask about the included services (such as detox, inpatient care, therapy sessions, and aftercare) and any potential out-of-pocket expenses, such as deductibles or copays. If your insurance doesn’t cover the rehab facility you want or the out-of-pocket pay is too much, check with the facility. Many offer sliding scale fees or payment plans to help manage costs. In Summary The amenities, environment, type of treatment, and costs are some of the most important factors when selecting your facility. The good news is that the offer is varied, and you still have the possibility to choose a facility you like, regardless of your budget and treatment needs. By ML staff. Image courtesy of Pixabay.

- Understanding The Difference Between No-fault and At-Fault Insurance
Hopefully, you are never in a car accident. Unfortunately, statistics are not in your favor. Your chances of being involved in a vehicle collision are greater than winning the lottery. If you find yourself in an auto wreck, whether it is your fault or the other driver’s, figuring out who’s insurance pays for what can be complicated. The confusion is often the result of state laws. Some states have no-fault laws while others place the blame on a particular driver. Understanding the differences between no-fault vs at-fault insurance is key to recovering compensation. At-Fault vs. No-Fault States A common misconception regarding vehicle accidents is drivers contact their respective insurance companies and file a claim. While this is the standard way to handle a car wreck, state laws also come into play. Currently, there are 28 states with no-fault insurance laws on the books. The remaining 22 states, plus the District of Columbia follow at-fault laws. So, what does this mean for drivers? If the vehicle collision occurs in a no-fault state, everyone involved contacts their insurance agent. When the wreck happens in an at-fault state, the driver deemed responsible for the accident pays for everything. This includes both property damages and injuries that occur or are exacerbated by the accident. A Closer Look at Car Accidents in No-Fault States Getting into an accident in a no-fault state does not mean both drivers get off scot free. Traffic tickets will still be issued. The at-fault driver is also responsible for covering any property damages. This means paying to repair the other driver’s vehicle through insurance or out-of-pocket. The only thing the at-fault driver is not responsible for covering is any injuries sustained in the accident. Both drivers will use their insurance’s medical or PIP (personal injury protection) to cover any medical care. If the non-fault driver uses their insurance to pay for vehicle repairs, the at-fault driver is responsible for reimbursement. The at-fault driver can use their liability coverage or pay for the repairs out-of-pocket. A Closer Look at Car Accidents in At-Fault States At-fault or tort state accident laws are often a little easier to understand. Basically, the at-fault driver is responsible for covering property damages and medical care. The at-fault driver can cover the expenses using insurance or by paying the non-fault driver cash. A quick tip, do not try to give the non-fault driver a personal check. Stick with either insurance, cash, or a cashier’s check. Your driver’s insurance policy has two parts, property damage and injury coverage. Your insurance will only pay up to your coverage amount. You are responsible for any remaining balances. For example, your property damage coverage goes up to $12,000 but repair costs are $13,000. You are responsible for paying the additional $1,000 out of your pocket. If you, as the at-fault driver, also carry PIP insurance. This type of insurance will cover your medical expenses up to the preset amount. PIP insurance may also cover any injuries your passengers sustained as a result of the car wreck. What Happens When You Are the Non-Fault Driver? State laws determine what happens when you are the non-fault driver in a car accident. This is when it can get a little confusing. As the not-at-fault driver, in a no-fault state, your PIP insurance is responsible for covering your injuries and those of your passengers. Remember, PIP insurance only covers up to the preset amount, so you may still be paying for medical care. Occasionally, PIP insurance will also cover any lost wages due to injury recovery times. When it comes to repairing your damaged vehicle, the other driver’s insurance is responsible for covering these costs. So, what happens if you are the no-fault driver in an at-fault state? In most cases, the at-fault driver’s insurance is responsible for your medical costs and covers all vehicle repair costs. You can still carry PIP insurance in at-fault states. Often, the PIP insurance kicks in to cover medical expenses and recoups the costs from the other driver’s insurance carrier. Sometimes, your PIP insurance will settle your medical bills faster than the at-fault driver’s insurance. How Do States Determine Which Driver is At Fault? While all accidents are unique, the process used to determine which driver caused the accident is basically the same. Law enforcement personnel will take statements from both drivers, along with any witnesses. Insurance adjusters are also responsible for determining accident fault . Witnesses can be passing motorists or passengers in one or both involved vehicles. Some vehicles have dash cams and police will want to review the footage. The accident may also occur in view of a traffic camera. This can also provide additional information about the accident’s cause. The police will analyze the scene and record their findings in their accident report. Both drivers will receive a copy of the report from their respective insurance companies. Your insurer will want to review the accident report before approving any payouts. Don’t be surprised if you are contacted by an insurance adjuster. This is common practice after a vehicle accident. Chances are, you will answer questions from your insurance provider and that of the at-fault driver. After reviewing all of the information, the insurance companies will begin settling claims. What If Both Drivers are Found Negligent? Sometimes, both drivers are found to be negligent. When this happens, everyone’s insurance is involved. To determine the amounts paid out, insurance companies typically look to see which driver can be considered the most at fault. State laws will also determine the type of negligence. This can fall into one of three categories, contributory, comparative, or modified comparative. The category your accident falls into will determine the amount you owe in damages or receive. Talk To an Attorney About No-Fault and At-Fault Car Accident Claims Trying to navigate the confusing laws and regulations surrounding no-fault and at-fault car accidents can leave you feeling confused and frustrated. To ensure you are fairly compensated or do not pay more than you should, it is also best to talk to an accident attorney. This can mean the difference between paying out-of-pocket or receiving a check. By ML staff. Image courtesy of Deposit photos.
- Five Top Tips For Avoiding A Hangover
How to avoid a hangover is a mystical thing that we’d all like to know. But there is science behind it too, and while it’s not an exact science, there are tips out there that can make a difference. Of course, if you’re even looking for the answer to the question “how to avoid a hangover”, then it’s probably important to say, without being judgemental, you should maybe explore your relationship with alcohol first and foremost. Ultimately, there’s only one real way to avoid a hangover, drink in moderation or not drink at all, and that’ll be the message that every professional from rehab centres in Dundee to an Alcohol Rehab in Surrey will tell you. And it’s one that should be listened to given the rising rates of addiction across the country. But, if you are looking to find strategies that can reduce the severity of a hangover after a night out drinking, here are some options… Stay Hydrated Firstly, you need to stay hydrated. Alcohol itself is a diuretic so while you may think you’re taking on lots of fluid, alcohol will increase urine production and lead to more fluid loss. This can result in headaches, dizziness and dry mouth - sound familiar? Drinking plenty of water before and during a night out can aid with this, while you may also want to alternate alcoholic drinks with water to slow down your intake. Finally, have a large glass of water before you go to bed to replenish the fluids you’ve lost over the course of an evening. Eat Before and During Drinking Drinking on an empty stomach will lead to the body absorbing alcohol much faster, so by eating a balanced meal before drinking you can minimise the impact it has on the body. What’s more, snacks throughout the evening can also keep energy levels up and reduce the impact of alcohol. The best foods to eat prior to drinking alcohol can include: Healthy fats like avocado, nuts, and olive oil can help slow alcohol absorption. Protein-rich foods like eggs, chicken, and fish can help stabilise blood sugar levels. Complex carbohydrates like whole grains and vegetables provide steady energy and help prevent blood sugar crashes. Choose Your Drinks Wisely Different alcoholic drinks can affect the body in different ways. Some include higher levels of congeners, which can contribute to more severe hangovers, while carbonated drinks, like champagne for example, can speed up alcohol absorption. While the best way to stay hangover free is alcohol free drinking, clear spirits like vodka and gin have fewer congeners, while darker drinks like whisky, red wine and brandy have more within them. While drinking clear spirits won’t eradicate the risk of a hangover, it may make them less severe. Depending on how much you drink, of course. Pace Yourself and Drink Responsibly Drinking too quickly or consuming excessive amounts of alcohol increases the likelihood of a hangover. Spacing out your drinks and knowing your limits can help prevent overconsumption. Listening to your body and knowing when to stop is crucial for preventing the worst effects of alcohol the next day. Get Plenty of Rest Alcohol disrupts sleep quality, making hangover symptoms worse. Even if you sleep for a long time after drinking, the quality of rest is often poor due to alcohol's impact on REM sleep. Consider stopping drinking at least an hour before you go to bed to allow the body to start processing the alcohol, while you should avoid any caffeine or heavy meals before bed as this can also add to the disruption. Finally, create a calm sleeping environment, with minimal noise or light exposure to give your body the best chance of a restful night’s sleep. The better the rest, the less intense the hangover symptoms will be when you wake up. By ML staff. Image courtesy of Pixabay.
