- Tiffany & Co. Introduces the “About Love” Campaign Starring Beyoncé and Jay-Z
Tiffany & Co. announced today that powerhouse couple Beyoncé and JAY-Z will star in its latest campaign celebrating modern love. Synonymous with the world’s greatest love stories since 1837, Tiffany’s debut of “ABOUT LOVE” marks the latest evolution of the luxury jeweler’s new creative direction. The campaign is the result of close collaboration and a shared vision between both the Carters and Tiffany & Co. “Beyoncé and JAY-Z are the epitome of the modern love story. As a brand that has always stood for love, strength, and self-expression, we could not think of a more iconic couple that better represents Tiffany’s values. We are honored to have the Carters as a part of the Tiffany family.” —Alexandre Arnault, Executive Vice President of Product & Communications As the first time the couple has appeared in a campaign together, “ABOUT LOVE” is an exploration of connection and vulnerability. The Carters’ love story is illuminated by the iconic Tiffany Diamond and set against the backdrop of Jean-Michel Basquiat’s Equals Pi (1982).* As part of a private collection from its creation until now, this campaign marks the work of art’s first public appearance, propelling Tiffany’s long-standing tradition of working with New York creatives forward. Ushering in a new brand identity, this campaign embodies the beauty of love through time and all its diverse facets, forging a new vision of love today. Worn in a campaign for the first time in history, the Tiffany Diamond weighs 128.54 carats and boasts an unprecedented 82 facets. Seen on Beyoncé throughout “ABOUT LOVE,” it is considered among the most important gemstone discoveries of the 19th century. Unearthed in 1877 in the Kimberley Mines of South Africa, founder Charles Lewis Tiffany purchased the rough diamond in 1878, solidifying the brand’s reputation as a diamond authority. House icons including designs from Jean Schlumberger and the Tiffany T collection are also featured throughout. Most notably, JAY-Z wears Jean Schlumberger’s legendary Bird on a Rock brooch, reconstructed as a pair of one-of-a-kind cuff links. Jean Schlumberger was best known for dressing high society’s elite in the 1960s and ’70s, so it is appropriate that his unmistakable designs live out his legacy on one of today’s greatest creative forces. A film by acclaimed director Emmanuel Adjei has also been created and features a musical performance of the classic song “Moon River.” Made famous in the 1961 film Breakfast at Tiffany’s, the iconic tune is reimagined with vocals by Beyoncé, captured by JAY-Z on a Super 8 camera. The couple selected the Orum House in Los Angeles to serve as the setting for the film, in which nostalgic flashbacks are interwoven with cinematic, dreamlike visuals. Basquiat’s Equals Pi appears once again as a common Tiffany Blue® thread throughout the narrative. The accompanying “ABOUT LOVE” print campaign was shot by Mason Poole and styled by June Ambrose and Marni Senofonte. “ABOUT LOVE” reflects Tiffany’s continued support of underrepresented communities. As a part of the house’s partnership with the Carters, Tiffany & Co. is proud to pledge a USD $2 million commitment towards scholarship and internship programs for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Additional details on this initiative are forthcoming. “ABOUT LOVE” launches globally in print on September 2. The accompanying film will launch on Tiffany.com September 15 and will be amplified through global media activations. The campaign will further unfold later this year with additional films created by acclaimed director Dikayl Rimmasch and second unit director, Derek Milton. By ML Staff. - Explainer: What are Middle Ear Infections & How are They Treated?
Middle ear infections (otitis media) are a common and often painful condition that most children will experience at least once in their first year. The infection takes hold when a bacteria or virus invades the middle ear. Babies aged six to 12 months are particularly susceptible because their immune systems have yet to develop the ability to mount a defence against the offending bugs. Babies’ Eustachian tubes – which drain fluid from the middle ear and the throat – are also not fully developed. This allows bacteria to build up rather than be removed from the ear. Babies’ Eustachian tubes aren’t fully developed.Shutterstock/Alila Medical Media With treatment and monitoring, most children will recover quickly. But for some, ear infections will become a persistent problem. Symptoms and treatment It can be difficult to know if your child is suffering an ear infection. Common signs are pulling at their ears, irritability, fever and lack of appetite. Older children may complain that their ears are sore but it can be difficult to detect in younger children. Ear infections often occur along with a cold, so children may also have a cough, runny nose or sore throat. If your child is in a significant amount of pain, get their ears checked by your GP. The doctor will recommend some pain relief and ask you to monitor the condition at home for around 48 hours, by which time most acute ear infections have subsided. If your child suffers repeated ear infections (more than three within six months, or more than four in a year) the doctor is likely to refer you to an ear, nose and throat (ENT) specialist. If there is runny fluid or pus coming from their ear, it’s important to seek treatment as soon as possible, even if that means going to the emergency department. Usually the pus will be removed, the ear cleaned out, and antibiotic drops prescribed. Follow-up assessments with audiologists (allied health hearing specialists) and ENT doctors will be arranged to check their hearing and if the ear drum has healed. Some types of ear infections are asymptomatic, meaning there is no pain or discomfort, but the child may have problems hearing. If left untreated, ear infections can cause developmental delays. So, if you are concerned about your child’s ears or hearing, even if there is no obvious sign of infection, it is important to get their ears checked. The problem with recurring infections Our study found that more than one quarter of children have had recurring middle ear infections by the time they are three years of age. Having recurring ear infections in infancy dramatically increases the risk of having ongoing problems with ear infections throughout childhood. This can cause hearing loss and impact on school readiness, performance in class, mental health and overall quality of life. Hearing loss as a result of ear infections can also persist into adulthood. The effects get worse with age and hearing declines at a faster rate than those without recurrent ear infections. How to reduce the risk Keeping children’s vaccinations up-to-date is important for reducing the risk of ear infections and many other diseases. The introduction of the PCV-13 pneumococcal vaccine for all children at two, four and six months of age has resulted in a dramatic reduction in middle ear infections. For those who are able to, breastfeeding is another way. Breast milk contains antibodies to some of the bacteria that cause ear infections. Exclusive breastfeeding for more than four months has been found to decrease the risk of ear infections. Focusing on wiping runny noses and washing hands (after going to the toilet, before eating, after changing nappies, and after wiping noses) can reduce the spread of infections. Parents and carers can also teach these good hygiene practices to children. Good infection control practices are especially important for young children with older siblings, those who live in overcrowded living conditions, and for those who attend childcare centres, where the risk of ear infections is higher. Parents should keep children with active ear infections away from other children, including from school and childcare centres, as much as possible until they are well. If you’re unsure whether your child has an ear infection, or if it has returned, talk to your GP so it can be identified and treated early. - Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami Acquires CryptoPunks NFT Through Eduardo Burillo
The Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami (ICA Miami) announced the acquisition of the non-fungible token (NFT) CryptoPunk 5293, marking the first NFT to enter a major art museum collection. Gifted by ICA Miami Trustee Eduardo Burillo, CryptoPunk 5293 will be on view at ICA Miami this summer, reflecting the museum’s commitment to advancing a wide understanding of contemporary art and fostering experimentation. CryptoPunk 5293 is one of 10,000 unique 24-by-24-pixel icons, created in 2017 by the collective Larva Labs, as one of the earliest series of NFTs ever offered for exchange on the Ethereum blockchain. Inspired by British punk rock culture, CryptoPunks are designed to appear as “misfits and non-conformists,” according to their creators. Each has its own unique combination of features that are randomly generated by a software algorithm. CryptoPunk 5293 is one of 3,840 female punks, and has the attributes of “purple lipstick,” a “mole,” and “frumpy hair.” “Larva Labs challenged and revolutionized our understanding of the meaning of art objects and ownership when they pioneered the creation of some of the first-ever NFTs in 2017. In doing so, they helped to launch a ‘cryptoart’ movement that is emblematic of the ways that our digital and physical worlds are merging and becoming inextricably intertwined—influencing contemporary art and culture in a myriad of ways. ICA Miami’s collection represents the most pressing and pioneering art and ideas of the present moment, across cultures and mediums, as well as historic work that influences artistic production today. CryptoPunk 5293 joins the ICA Miami collection as a work that is truly representative of the cultural zeitgeist and will have historic significance for generations to come, reflecting ICA Miami’s commitment to fostering an expansive understanding of contemporary art and cultural production in the 21st century. We are enormously grateful for the extraordinary vision and generosity of Eduardo Burillo with this landmark gift to the museum,” said ICA Miami Artistic Director Alex Gartenfeld. “The CryptoPunks represent innovation in art, identity, and cultural archive. I am so pleased to support experimentation in ICA Miami's collection by contributing an important work that captures contemporary discourse and the evolution of artistic practice," said Eduardo Burillo, ICA Miami Trustee. More the Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami The Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami (ICA Miami) is dedicated to promoting continuous experimentation in contemporary art, advancing new scholarship, and fostering the exchange of art and ideas throughout the Miami region and internationally. - Patek Philippe Introduces Grande Sonnerie Ref. 6301P
A MASTERPIECE OF MINIATURIZATION AND ACOUSTIC PERFECTION. This grand complication, exceptionally rare in a wristwatch, is complemented with a petite sonnerie (that does not strike the quarter hours), a minute repeater (that strikes on demand), and with a patented jumping subsidiary seconds. The Ref. 6301P Grande Sonnerie has a new 703-part movement, cased in platinum as well as a black dial in grand feu enamel; it will round out and recrown the unique collection of Patek Philippe repeater timepieces. PATEK PHILIPPE, THE GRAND MASTER OF CHIMES To implement the grande sonnerie as envisioned, Patek Philippe developed a new movement as a spin-off of the caliber 300 of the Grandmaster Chime. Given its 703 parts, the caliber GS 36-750 PS IRM is remarkably compact for such a complex mechanism (diameter: 37 mm; height: 7.5 mm). One of the traditionally greatest difficulties for the engineers of grande sonneries is mastering energy flows and power reserves. Unlike in minute repeaters which must be triggered on demand by actuating a slide or a pusher, the grande sonnerie needs to have sufficient reserve power to automatically sound the required number of time strikes with uniform acoustic quality. A three-day power reserve for the movement is what can be expected of a modern watch that is worn daily, in keeping with the customer-centric creation philosophy of Patek Philippe. The 24-hour power reserve for the strikework allows the watch to strike the full hours and the quarter hours during an entire day and thanks to a uniform torque characteristic to assure optimized sound intensity. MODERN & ELEGANT The platinum case expresses subtlety and balance in its curves and rounded contours, with the concave bezel for a perfect transition from the slightly cambered sapphire-crystal glass and the countersunk satin- finished case flanks. Like all Patek Philippe platinum cases, it sports a small diamond set in this instance at 12 o’clock because the usual 6 o’clock position is occupied by the slide switch for selecting the strikework mode. The restaurant boasts a French-inspired menu with dishes like Escargot, Short Rib Beef Bourguignon, and Chocolate Pots de Crème. As you would expect, there is a list of fine wines offered from their winery. I highly recommend the Red Wine-braised beef short ribs with whipped potatoes and broccolini; the Creamy Parmesan Gruyere Lobster Mac & Cheese; and a bottle of Château Élan Velvet, a blend of Zinfandel and Petit Sirah with fruity and flowery notes. This was the perfect meal --every bite was full of flavor and prepared masterfully. My compliments to the chef. Afternoon Tea is served at Versailles Wednesday through Sunday from 2 pm to 4 pm, by reservation only. The traditional Afternoon Tea impresses with its variety of delicious teas and nice selection of tea sandwiches, scones, pastries and sweets. Afternoon Tea is $55, Royal Afternoon Tea is $75, and children 12 and under are $30. Chateau Élan Winery is arguably the most appealing feature of the property. Revered as one of the largest and most awarded wineries on the East Coast, the winery (open daily) offers more than 30 wines produced with grapes grown in Braselton and south of Georgia vineyards, as well as whole cluster grapes hand-picked and transported from California’s Lake County and Clarksburg regions. Here is a little history pulled from their website: “It all started with a sip of muscadine wine, a sweet Southern staple made with Georgia-grown muscadine grapes. Intrigued by the native American grape’s abundance, Chateau Élan founders Don and Nancy Panoz set out to grow classic vinifera grapes. Though Georgia’s Piedmont region climate and region plant diseases proved incompatible with the classic grapes such as merlot and chardonnay, the arrival of winemaker Simone Bergese set the stage for success. By embracing the native muscadine grape and expanding the wine program, Bergese elevated the winery to its current status as the largest wine producer in Georgia.” Sign up for a guided tour and tasting during your stay. We had a lovely time on our private tour and wine tasting with Tasting Room supervisor/sommelier, Matias. The wine was delicious and we learned so much about their wines and the property. The winery also offers private one-of-a-kind events. You will never be bored during your stay here as there are a number of experiences you can participate in, from cooking classes at the winery and design classes (including hand-printing textiles and pouring custom candles) led by a team of artisan craftspeople, to guided wine and paint classes with local artists. If you’re looking for a romantic experience, call room service and order Picnic d’Chateau, a pre-packed picnic with wine. The winery has so many picturesque spots perfect for a picnic. Hop on a bicycle and explore the vast property. There is so much beauty to take in. When you’re done exploring, stop by The Spa at Chateau Élan for first-class pampering. This rejuvenating sanctuary offers a menu of services (massages, facials, skin care enhancements, body treatments, nail care) and spa packages. Spa guests can enjoy the indoor saltwater pool, spa whirlpool, and men’s and women’s locker rooms, each with a wet eucalyptus steam room and dry sauna. Additionally, there is a fitness center that offers classes, including low-impact aerobics, strength training, body sculpting, Yoga, Pilates, and Aqua aerobics in the spa’s heated pool. Go outside to walk their tranquil nature paths (seasonal guided hikes are offered) or lounge on the sun deck. Every square foot of this gorgeous property was thoughtfully designed to ensure guests have the best and most fulfilling time here. The French allure, fine wines, notable fare, and list of things to do at Chateau Élan make this property a must-visit. - The Lincoln Eatery Offers the Ultimate Modern Asian Street Food Experience with the New Ai Tallarin
The Lincoln Eatery, Miami’s #1 Food Hall, as recently listed by the Miami New Times, announces the grand opening of Ai Tallarin on Oct. 22. Ai Tallarin specializes in Asian street food with a Peruvian twist, serving a flavorful menu of tapas, hibachi, saké and freshly-made noodles. The concept was inspired by chef Carlos Zheng’s love for Chinese tradition, experience with Peruvian cuisine and passion for Miami culture. Known for its trademark pasta machine, which creates a bowl of noodles in seconds, the street food experience will combine flavorful ingredients with picture-perfect meal presentation, ideal for Instagram and Tik-Tok enthusiasts. Chef Zheng’s menu was inspired by his modern Asian culinary background as he grew up cooking countless regional dishes from all around Asia. As an adult he traveled to Peru where he mastered traditional Peruvian techniques. During his time there he fell in love with the flavors of Peruvian cuisine and began to fuse those ingredients into his cherished Asian recipes. Later he studied under the great master sushi chef Noboru Sanada before moving to Miami where he joined the team at Sushi Samba in Coral Gables, among other popular eateries in South Florida. Ai Tallarin is his latest passion project. “Ai means love in Chinese and Tallarin is the word for pasta in Spanish,” explained Zheng. “By combining the simple and delicious flavors from both Peru and Asia, we’re able to offer The Lincoln Eatery guests a new and exciting street food experience in Miami Beach, serving a menu of delicious dumplings, gyozas and freshly-made noodles daily.” The culinary outpost will operate daily at the Lincoln Eatery, serving lunch and dinner within the decorated stall within the food hall, which houses over 14 global food concepts. Menu highlights include Noodle Bowls (SS), which are made with a futuristic pasta-making machine, which creates a fresh portion of flavorful strands in 18-20 seconds. The noodles are pan fried and served with a variety of toppings, including stir-fried beef short ribs and baby bok choy. Other noodle varieties include the Pork Belly Noodle Soup ($19), Creamy Chicken Noodle Soup ($16), rib Eye Steak Stir-Fry Noodles ($19) and a selection of fried rice with additional toppings and proteins ($14-19). Dim Sum is a menu highlight and Ai Tallain’s dumplings do not disappoint. The menu provides a selection of Crispy Chicken Dumplings ($8), which are fried golden and served with sweet chili, Thai basil and Cilantro. Other notable Dim Sum offerings include the Pan Fried Korean BBQ Pork Dumplings ($9), which includes Gochujang aioli and Oshinko. Other notables include Steamed Shrimp, mushroom and crispy fried Shumai ($9). For dessert, guests can satisfy their sweet tooth with a sampling Mochi Ice Cream ($6) Ai Tallarin will be open Sunday to Thursday 12pm-8pm, Friday-Saturday 12 pm-10 pm and located within the Lincoln Eatery Food Hall.
