Barter Is Back: Zèya Surpasses 100,000 Downloads as Swap Culture Gains Momentum

Miami-based peer-to-peer marketplace Zèya has surpassed 100,000 downloads across iOS and Android, marking a new growth milestone for the app as it works to make direct item swapping an alternative to traditional resale. Zèya allows users to trade items ranging from fashion and electronics to books, baby products and sports equipment, with an optional cash top-up when a straight exchange does not balance.

“One hundred thousand downloads is exciting because it shows that swapping can become a real habit, not a last resort,” said Mehdi Taifi, founder and CEO of Zèya. “Zèya started with a simple question: why should getting something new to you always mean buying something new?”

The milestone follows a $2.45 million strategic growth round led by Storage Innovations LLC earlier this year. The funding was announced to support product development, artificial intelligence capabilities, logistics and storage integrations, and expansion into additional markets.

Rather than requiring users to sell an item and then use the proceeds to make another purchase, Zèya connects people who want to trade directly. Users can browse nearby listings, swipe through available items, connect with other users and discuss potential exchanges through the app. Private groups and group chat also allow users to connect around shared interests and communities.

Zèya 4.0, rolled out earlier this summer, builds on that social marketplace model with a simplified user experience. The update simplified the app’s navigation and onboarding while also streamlining the offer process after users reported that completing a swap involved too many steps.

One of the main additions is an AI Listing Assistant that can generate an item’s name, description and category from an uploaded photo. Zèya 4.0 also allows users to chat before making an offer and introduces a visual balance meter designed to make the relative value of a proposed trade easier to understand. Group chat has also been added, along with expanded categories including Baby & Toddler and Sports & Outdoors.

“Barter is simple in theory: I have something you want, you have something I want, and we trade,” Taifi said. “The technology should make that easier, not add friction.”

With 100,000 downloads now reached, Zèya is focused on increasing the number of users and available items within local markets, creating more opportunities for nearby exchanges. The company is continuing to develop its categories and community features as it works toward its next target of one million downloads.
