We Chose to Go to the Moon WALLCAST Concert Set for April 25 in Miami Beach
A free public screening of the multimedia concert We Chose to Go to the Moon will take place at SoundScape Park in Miami Beach on Saturday, April 25 at 8:00 p.m., with projections on the New World Center’s 7,000-square-foot exterior wall.
The event explores the euphoria and heartbreak of the United States space race through an immersive performance written and narrated by historian John Monsky and directed by Tony Award winner Michael Mayer. The production combines live performance with rare archival footage, historic flags, and personal accounts from astronauts and their families, including Neil and Janet Armstrong, as well as stories of Mission Control personnel.
Imagery from NASA, the National Archives, and other sources is featured, along with a special appearance by Mark Armstrong, son of Neil and Janet Armstrong. Conductor Ian Weinberger leads Broadway vocalists in music from the era, including selections such as “Fly Me to the Moon,” “Rocket Man,” “Space Oddity,” and “My Generation.”
Organizers note that restrooms will be available in the southeast corner of SoundScape Park and there will be no access to restrooms inside the New World Center.
The presentation is not a New World Symphony performance.
