Stanek Gallery Miami presents Visual Poetry, a two-person exhibition pushing beyond the representation of naturalistic human likeness to achieve deeper imaginative conversations between the artist and the viewer. Join us for the opening night on March 29th from 6–9 PM, as we welcome two master artists never before seen together to Miami: Master bronze sculptor Gary Weisman, whose work is held in public and private collections worldwide, including at the Whitney Museum of American Art, and legacy artist Danny McCaw, who brings new visions and voice to contemporary painting. Weisman, an expert in every step of the casting process himself, from modeling to pouring bronze at his foundry, compliments McCaw, who will be showing his working paintings on paper for the first time as influences and references to his larger paintings on canvas.
The night begins with a guided tour of the work by gallery owner Katherine Stanek as she takes viewers through the stories behind the artists, never before displayed work, and the details behind how these two contemporary expressionist artists from opposite sides of the country were brought together for the first time in Miami.

The evening continues with a screening of IAFOR award-winning film, "Changing Place of Making" directed by Jack Weisman, son of Gary Weisman. The film follows deeply personal conversations between father and son, exploring the master artist process in Weisman’s rare home foundry, and provoking ideas of purpose and meaning both in life and art.
Gary Weisman is highly acclaimed for his astute attention to negative space; crafting sculptures whose presences extend beyond their immediate forms, lending kinetic energy and cast-shadow projections to their surrounding environments as completing components of the works themselves. His figures ask the viewer to abandon preconceptions of space and gravity and to just exist in silent acknowledgement and appreciation of one another.
Danny McCaw’s oil paintings often favor a thick impasto and moody palate engaging in gesturally decisive imagery blurring the visual vocabularies of representation and abstraction. He uses seemingly simple geometric perspectives to masterfully create minimalist humanistic forms that are left to be completed in detail by the viewer’s gaze, while the compositions convey a sense of uncertainty, leaving generous space for ambiguity, encouraging contemplation, imagination, and personal interpretation.
Our exhibition program extends into May with a special highlight—Danny McCaw will journey from his California studio to present an exclusive artist talk on April 26th from 4 - 6pm! Don’t miss this rare opportunity to witness, for the first time, the revealing of intricate sketches that inspired his final painting.
“The artwork I have in my personal collection by Weisman and McCaw inspired the pairing for Visual Poetry. I am in awe every day as the changing light of the Miami sunrise passes over the surface of the Weisman bronze forms and McCaw oil painting, illuminating yet another breathtaking detail. This exhibition is my way of sharing these moments of pure poetry with our visitors.”
