Fresh off its acclaimed David LaChapelle exhibition, VISU Contemporary continues to assert itself as one of Miami’s most dynamic and ambitious contemporary art galleries. With its newest exhibition, Roots to Fly by visual poet and conceptual aartist Rubem Robierb, VISU once again demonstrates its commitment to emotionally resonant, conceptually rich work that speaks both personally and globally.
On view February 5 through March 15, 2026, Roots to Fly is an immersive journey through memory, identity and imagination. The exhibition arrives at a significant moment for Robierb, whose design was recently selected as Miami’s Official Host City Poster for the FIFA World Cup 2026, further cementing his influence within the city’s cultural landscape.
Brazilian-born and Miami-based, Robierb draws deeply from his childhood in Maranhão, Brazil, transforming autobiography into a universal meditation on origin and possibility. The exhibition’s title encapsulates its central metaphor: roots—the histories and experiences that ground us—and wings—the inner force that allows reinvention, resilience and flight. Together, they form a poetic reflection on how understanding where we come from can empower where we are going.
The exhibition features nearly 30 works spanning sculpture, painting and mixed media. Among its most striking pieces is a smaller-scale version of The Winged Canoe, a sculptural work depicting a young boy—modeled after the artist himself at five years old—traveling through a dreamlike landscape. The child holds a lamp, symbolizing the inner light we must protect and never allow to dim. The original monumental version of the canoe, measuring five meters long, was first presented in Robierb’s debut exhibition in Brazil in 2025, making its presence at VISU both intimate and significant.
With Roots to Fly, VISU Contemporary continues to solidify its position as a leading platform for artists whose work bridges personal narrative with universal themes. The gallery’s programming consistently favors depth, ambition and emotional clarity—qualities that resonate strongly within Miami’s evolving art scene.
As VISU Contemporary builds on a growing roster of impactful exhibitions, Roots to Fly stands as both a defining moment for the gallery and a powerful reflection on the human capacity to honor the past while imagining new futures.
