Vienna Marks 200 Years of Johann Strauss with Luxe New Hotel Experience

Updated: Jun 1

Miami may be known for its vibrant rhythms and cultural flair, but this year, the beat carries across the Atlantic to Vienna, where the city is celebrating the 200th anniversary of Johann Strauss’s birth. Often called the “Waltz King,” Strauss is the composer behind some of the most iconic classical works in history, including The Blue Danube. In honor of the milestone, Vienna is hosting concerts across the city — from prestigious venues like the Musikverein and Konzerthaus to offbeat locations such as the Central Cemetery and the Danube Island Festival.

At the heart of the celebration is Almanac Palais Vienna, a luxury boutique hotel that pays homage to Strauss with its exclusive anniversary package, Strauss at 200: A Romantic Tribute. Housed in two 19th-century palais along the city’s famous Ringstrasse and overlooking the serene Stadtpark, the hotel offers guests an immersive cultural experience that goes far beyond the concert hall.

The package includes two nights in a suite with views of the Stadtpark — home to the gilded Strauss Monument — along with private access to the newly opened Johann Strauss Museum – New Dimensions, a high-tech, interactive tribute to the composer’s life and music. Guests are also treated to a guided “Strauss Walk” past Vienna’s historic landmarks and concert halls, exclusive access to Strauss’s former residence, and a gourmet, plant-forward picnic in the park by the hotel’s Donnersmarkt restaurant. A vintage Strauss vinyl and a Vienna City Card round out the experience.

Rates start at €1200 EUR, with custom options available depending on the experience.

Almanac Palais Vienna is a destination in itself. Opened in spring 2023 and restored by acclaimed designer Jaime Beriestain, the hotel features 80 suites and 31 guestrooms, a two-floor marble wellness spa with a 14-meter thermal pool, and a curated collection of Austrian art — including a rare piece by Gustav Klimt, marking the first time his work has ever been displayed in a hotel. Dining is equally thoughtful, with locally sourced, Alpine-inspired cuisine at Donnersmarkt and a dedicated coffee shop that nods to Vienna’s historic café culture.

For lovers of music, history, and refined travel, Almanac Palais Vienna offers a singular way to celebrate Strauss’s enduring legacy in the heart of Europe.
