Valdo: The Gold Standard in Prosecco & Cultural Innovation

Established as the first sparkling house of Valdobbiadene in 1926, Valdo has become known for its role in developing Prosecco culture. Entirely owned by the Bolla family, Valdo has not only become the Prosecco of choice for Italians, but has established its reputation for high-quality offerings of Prosecco D.O.C. and Prosecco D.O.C.G. thanks to its continuous focus on innovation, a versatile range of offerings, and provenance paired with multi-generational family ownership in Valdobbiadene. Now approaching the significant milestone of its 100th anniversary, Valdo remains a leader in shaping Prosecco culture through its enduring legacy.

One of Valdo’s offerings that has garnered renewed attention in the US is their Marca Oro Prosecco D.O.C. Brut, also known as the “gold standard”. Featuring its iconic gold label that reflects its name, quality and versatility, this wine has become a symbol of high quality Prosecco around the world. Available also in a convenient 187ml size, it has gained recognition as the perfect offering at events and celebrations.

In addition, Valdo has made headlines and received important awards for the brand’s innovative traditional-method label, Valdo Numero 10 Metodo Classico Valdobbiadene D.O.C.G. Released in 2005, Valdo broke new ground by employing the same method as renowned Champagne houses, having the wine undergo secondary fermentation in the bottle rather than tanks as is typically done with Prosecco. Following a minimum 10 months of secondary fermentation in bottle, Numero 10 matures in Valdo’s cellars for at least six months after disgorgement. With this approach Valdo was able to develop a wine that masterfully combines the typical fruity and delicate characteristics of the Glera grape with the structure and body recognized by Champagne enthusiasts.

Valdo’s impact goes beyond its wines, seamlessly blending Prosecco culture with hospitality and lifestyle on a global scale.

As a way to honor its sense of place in the beautiful vineyard-lined hills of Valdobbiadene, in the Veneto region of northeast Italy, the Bolla family now welcomes visitors to their modern yet welcoming country house Casa Valdo. Pierluigi Bolla, Valdo’s chairman and CEO, explains, “When visiting Casa Valdo you get a sense of the culture, the way of life among our vineyards, and feel the historical significance here. Casa Valdo is our way of welcoming you into our home.” Casa Valdo has 6 exquisite rooms, a quiet escape yet not too far for a day trip to Verona or Venice.

Across the Atlantic, in Miami, Valdo finds other ways to share its story and sparkling expertise through the intersection of wine and art. Starting from mid-November, Valdo is the official wine sponsor of the Florida Grand Opera, with Prosecco Superiore D.O.C.G. served in all the VIP areas and private boxes at the Adrienne Arsht Center, and soon multiple labels will be offered at a branded Prosecco Bar at Julia and Henry’s, the vibrant culinary destination in downtown Miami, home of the brand new Massimo Bottura restaurant Torno Subito.

Matteo Bolla, third generation family member from Valdo, and based in the U.S. adds, “We are excited to bring Valdo’s spirit and culture to so many new initiatives that extend beyond the wine. Personally, I am proud to represent top quality Prosecco and find new innovative ways to continue Valdo’s role in elevating Prosecco here in the US”.
