Longtime USTA Florida volunteer Jim Tierney was recently honored with the prestigious Brad Parks Award at the 2026 USTA Annual Meeting & Conference in Orlando. The accolade recognizes his outstanding and sustained contributions to the growth and development of wheelchair tennis across South Florida.
The Brad Parks Award, established in 2002, is named after the pioneer of wheelchair tennis and the sport's first tournament champion. It is presented annually to an individual or group that has been instrumental in providing opportunities to wheelchair players and promoting the sport's growth at the sectional or national level.
A Legacy of Dedication in South Florida
Tierney's involvement with wheelchair tennis began when he stepped up to coach a clinic at the Patch Reef Tennis Center in Boca Raton after the previous coach departed. That pivotal moment sparked a deep commitment to the sport, leading him to volunteer extensively across Broward, Palm Beach, and Miami-Dade Counties.
Over the years, Tierney has played a crucial role in bringing greater visibility to wheelchair tennis. He has successfully organized high-profile exhibitions at prestigious regional events, including the Delray Beach Open and the Miami Open.
